oyaskii: Not a DC fan, how are you people not getting this...The entire Black panther is a plot hole Black panther can't lace the boot any of the Dark knight trilogy maybe the first one if the argument comes up. I never said that you were a DC fan. In fact the last two films in the dark knight trilogy are my favourite comic book movies. Black panther is a great movie. I agree that it is not the best plot we have seen but it is a good plot. Just because the plot is simple, it doesnt mean that one should say that it is not great |

oyaskii: You should have just calmed down and see my comment isn't even DC related, since you want to drag irrelevant oscars...Superman won oscars for Best original score, film editing and sound mixing, Batman won for best art direction, Batman the dark knight won for Best supporting actor and best sound editing, as trashy as suicide squad was, also won an oscar But continue to be myopic.
Black panther wasn't a great film story line or plot wise and that's fact...cultural importance then i can start listening to you. Feel free to point out plot holes in black panther. O will point out many in the dark Knight trilogy or any superman movie. Having a simple and straightforward plot is not always a bad thing. Also note that the villain in black panther is one of the few realistic villains in comic book movies. All these black panther haters. |

hulk616: bric Larson has an Oscar DC fans are just jealous and pained.
They always say DC animation are the best and marvel are doing nonsense with their animation, but last year marvel released one animated movie and it won an Oscar compared to DC collection of trash. Halle berry had an Oscar before she flopped with Catwoman. |

blingxx: Can someome tell me why captain marvel is getting so much negative reviews before it release... Mjbolt, hulk616 come and explain Because of fake feminism. Captain marvel is not a major superhero even with the fans. Most people would have preferred a black widow movie first. Even the Captain marvel comics don't sell as well as other marvel comics. Some people feel that it is forced diversity and feminist politics to have Captain Marvel instead of other more deserving heroes. There is also the issue of Brie Larson not being a recognizable and experienced actress.....so there is some doubt on her ability.....but we will have to wait and see what happens. Compare this to Wonderwoman in which the comic book character is widely recognised. Although people questioned if Gal Gadot could act the role well and she did.... The trailer of captain marvel did not look as fun as the other marvel ones. That too was a fctor. Also note that the customers are always right. You cannot ignore what your fans are asking for and force your politics on them instead. This same thing happened to 2016 Ghostbusters, in which the fans asked for a sequel and they got an all-woman remake....the film got a lot of hate and flopped. Mind you, I am a feminist but one must be careful how they mix politics and business. Also , diversity should not be forced. I hope that Captain marvel comes out as a good movie...... |

Just finished watching Trance. I swear, I should bring cane and start flogging people here for overhyped reviews. How is this film like inception? The only similarity is that they are both psychological thrillers. Of which Inception delves into science fiction. Don't get me wrong; Trance is a good movie but it is no where near the intellectual challenge that is inception. Trance - 7/10 |

Christianity Etc › Re: Is A Creator A Logical Conclusion? by JeromeBlack: 4:22pm On Feb 24, 2019 |
Ihedinobi3: That was not a flaw at all because a final uncaused cause is a logical necessity for existence to make sense. Infinite regress is an impossibility.
That impossibility is another flaw in your cyclic model. Your model has universes in generations stretching into the infinite past with the question "how did it all start?" unanswered.
Further, your model assumes the possibility of change in a closed system. That is false. If the universe is all there is, it won't change at all, much less produce a new Universe and go out of existence. Nope. The answer lies in the details. The universe is not an uncaused cause if you recognize that the preceding causal universe is actually a different universe. Remember the chicken and the egg? Think of the preceding universe as the chicken and the new universe as the egg. What make you think that a universe is a closed system? I hope you know that classifying the universe as a closed system is meaningless as it is based only in theory. In reality, the observable universe is an open system. Alas, we come to the very problem we have at the beginning- How did it all start? Because something else can still be responsible for the cyclic universes. It is at this point that I am going to take a break. The philosophy is giving me headache *runs away from thread* |
Christianity Etc › Re: Is A Creator A Logical Conclusion? by JeromeBlack: 3:43pm On Feb 24, 2019 |
Ihedinobi3: Didn't have a previous life. And I'm not dodging.
You did claim that the Universe has always existed. How is that different from a causeless cause? Good question. In fact, I must commend you for asking the right question for once. You have hit the nail on the flaw of the "cyclic universe theory" If you accept the cyclic universe theory, then you must also accept that paradox that the universe created itself. While it is a paradox, it is far more explainable than an uncaused God. The reasoning is that in the cyclic universe, the preceding universe is different from the new universe it creates. In short, our universe is caused by another universe. Think of it like the chicken and the egg problem. This is another unsolvable paradox. A chicken gives birth to an egg but the chicken must come from an egg. What came first? It is an eternal cycle of universes coming in and out of existence. The other difference between an eternal universe and an uncaused God is that we have evidence for a universe. Concrete and undeniable evidence for a universe. But we do not have a single shred of physical evidence for a God. |

I can't even imagine myself watching dubbed naruto mehn it would be so freaking weird, kage bushin no jutsu going to shadow clone jutsu like it might even spoil the entire day for me. That's how bad it is. A lot of my oyibo friends prefer dubbed version. Remember that many of them grew up watching dubbed anime on cartoon network and other channels in America. It is only the real otakus that go hardcore and watch subbed anime. |

DoctorAlien:
who is this?
That is actually the opinion of many scientists, including Vilenkin and Hawking. Mind you, they're not Christians.
what do you think a state of maximum disorder means? It doesn't mean scatteredness, as in disordeliness. It means a state in which there is no more usable energy. The temperature of everywhere in the universe would be the same. No work can done in such a state because no energy is available for it. That is concrete bullshite. From what evidence/research/logic is that based on? |

UyiIredia: Noted. It's like water cycle so it's reformed not created and destroyed but why do you deny an eternal cause is unchangable.
If something changes eternally something must make it change not so. Change is a natural part of existence. The universe we know is expanding and changing. Energy itself cannot be destroyed, it is only converted. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Is A Creator A Logical Conclusion? by JeromeBlack: 3:38pm On Feb 23, 2019 |
DoctorAlien:
he doesn't know. An author, writing about physicists' opinion on the beginning of the universe, put it this way:
"And Vilenkin said that while cyclic universes have an “irresistible poetic charm and bring to mind the Phoenix” (quoting the late Belgian astronomer and priest Georges Lemaître), the model was hopelessly wrong in its predictions of the universe’s level of order today. If there had indeed already been an infinite number of cycles, the universe today should be in a state of maximum disorder. As the New Scientist article pointed out:
“Such a universe would be uniformly lukewarm and featureless, and definitely lacking such complicated beings as stars, planets and physicists—nothing like the one we see around us.”3 The attempted rescue suggestion, viz. that the universe just gets bigger with every cycle, therefore isn’t yet at maximum disorder, also fails on the same point as the eternal inflation model. I.e., “if your universe keeps getting bigger, it must have started somewhere.” ". https://creation.com/universe-had-a-beginning Scientists can be wrong. And that is the opinion of one scientist. I would like to ask the Scientist what a state of maximum disorder looks like in a universe. By his very own argument, the big bang too should have resulted in a maximum state of disorder. Why would 2 big bangs be more disorderly than one big bang? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Is A Creator A Logical Conclusion? by JeromeBlack: 3:31pm On Feb 23, 2019 |
UyiIredia: I can't repeat this enough: an eternal cause must be unchangable.
Do you know how stupid the cyclic universe sounds: Precisely how does something that is created and destroyed be eternal? FALSE! Anything eternal must undergo changes eternally. Think of it like the water cycle- 1. water in the ocean turns to gas. EVAPORATION 2. the gas turns back to liquid water in the atmosphere. CONDENSATION 3. the water falls back down into the ocean. PRECIPITATION The water is "created" and "destroyed" continuously. Some scientists see the universe like so. |

LordReed: Because he is not following where the evidence leads, he is making a leap. He also fails to take into account all of the facts. Consider that so far life is in a very low minority in this universe and considering that there are probably uncountable planets with the conditions earth finds itself, how does he arrive at design? Unless of course he is willing to concede that the designer is rather wasteful, inefficient and not very good at design.
Another analogy: You have a million naira in cash in your wardrobe. Only you knows the money is in there, only you has access to open the wardrobe. One day you take out the money and count it, you find 1 naira is missing. Do you immediately think "someone has stolen my 1 naira!" or you are more likely to think it either it fell as you took out the money or it is still in the cupboard?
One does not quickly jump to agency when the evidence does not point there or else you seem like a crazy person. GBAM! Simple and short |

One would expect atheists to be logical and what not as we have always posited on this board.
Seems the atheists on this board shy away from discussions that puts them in an uncomfortable position.
Who knows which atheist is which to tag to this thread?
DoctorAlien do you? This is what happens when you associate with funny people. You start to unconsciously copy their behaviour. Your op is quite open to argument from many angles. People have many reasons for not accepting that God is not a reasonable conclusion. The atheists here have given different robust arguments why a creator/god is illogical. You cannot expect people to answer things the way you want |
Christianity Etc › Re: Is A Creator A Logical Conclusion? by JeromeBlack: 1:08pm On Feb 23, 2019 |
Ihedinobi3: You are also assuming that the Universe will exist forever. Your assumption is correct but you clearly believe it for no reason.
As for how the Universe exists, there is no argument that something created and sustains it. That is the only way to explain both its existence and its decay.
As for whether the Creator of the Universe is my God, of course, Jesus Christ is the Creator of the Universe. But you are free to believe whatever you want about that. Just as you are free to believe in any philosophical contortions you please in this matter.
As for what we know, we know both that the Universe exists and that it was created too. It takes incredible faith to believe that it either just happened out of nothing or is self-existing.
As for God, He didn't give us the Universe to understand. He gave us the Universe to live in and make a choice about Him. The Universe is how He teaches us that He exists and will reward every choice we make about Him.
As for what you believe, that is entirely your choice. I can tell you the Truth, but I can't tell you what to believe. That is all on you. @ the bold. The pagans were very creative in creating a god for different things. A god of thunder, a god of the sea etc. Your God should be Yahweh god of ignorance and confusion. From your own statement in bold, God is happy when humans are ignorant. He is okay with us being ignorant about the universe. Just like the story of Adam and Eve where Yahweh didnt want them to notice their unclothedness. Zombie god, zombie follower. |
