Me: Yes Toefl. I had 72 ( it was actually waived but I didn't mention it) VO: I can see you're going for a communication programme Me: Yes ( he looks at the I-20) VO: Did u apply to other schools Me: Fort Hays State University and East Tennessee State University. Got offer from FHSU while ETSU still pending VO: Who's sponsoring you Me: My dad VO:What does he do Me:He's into import and export of goods as well as haulage of goods VO: Does he import cars from the US Me: Yes sometimes VO: Can I see a statement Me: Handed him a copy of his company's bank statement VO: Typing.... VO: I can see you've been to the US on a family vacation Me: Yes VO: Where did you go Me:Houston and Atlanta He typed for some mins and handed over the blue paper.
My family members have actually renewed their visas but withdrew mine cos I wanted to apply for student visa. Now I'm feeling I should have just renewed with them. So also, before my interview I sent a mail to the school as regards my late visa appointment stating that the earliest date I got for my interview was 29th of December. I got a response from them saying "Please move forward with the visa process and keep in touch with our office with an estimated date of arrival. We are able to provide you with an orientation to make you cover what you miss. I hope the interview goes well" Mind you the statement I presented dats from May to October 2017 cos dat was what I sent to the school. Can I still use it to reapply in January? (Just wanna know if the statement could still be useful for a January application)
Please I would like to know where I got it all wrong. Thank you. So sorry about your denial bro/ sis. Your interview to me was good but the statement of account you presented was wrong. VO's from my observation prefer Personal Bank statements of sponsors and not Company bank statement of sponsors. If you can address this, kindly refire. |

temitope2598: I share the same opinion. There was a transcript here some weeks back of a lady who had her first degree(Bachelor of Arts) in English and literary studies I think. She's was switching careers to Computer Science and going for another Bachelors and she gave her reasons to the Interviewing officer. Ofcourse, she got her visa approved.
This doesn't mean it's impossible to get your visa approved if it's still in the same career path, but like imperioux (one of the few people I regard so well on this forum said). You've got to have strong persuasion skills. That lady is @Messibliss207. You can search her to see how she navigated her way to convince the VO. She studied English at first degree (B. A) and started working in the IT department thereby developing a passion for IT related courses that forced her to delve into pursuing a fresh B. Sc in IT so as to get an in depth knowledge of her new found love (IT). It's a clear and convincing scenario than one going to rigmarole in same field of study. |

[q TWoods: You shot yourself in the foot. You claimed you were on study leave. But it wasn’t obvious that this was the case. Did you provide a genuine letter attesting to that? A letter that expressly states what you are going for, how long you’re expected to be away and a clear indication that your job will be available when you return. It should also state if you are going to be paid or not during your absence. This letter should be on your company letterhead and signed by a management official.
Also, if truly this is to enable you move up in your company, why are they not paying for it? It’s strange.
The problem is that when you reapply, you can’t deviate from this again. See the question in bold that the VO asked, you didn’t answer it at all or probably did not understand it. I sometime wanted to ask this question too. Similarly, I had a study leave and a letter attesting to that from my bank. It was a leave without pay any way and they were not sponsoring me at all. My data rather was. (Though the VO didn't ask me this question). My question now is, I was denied an F1 visa twice already (November and December) and I am not sure if my bank will issue me a study leave any longer. Please how best can I come out of this as I really wish to bag an MSc which would equip me with the skills to become a data analyst (especially in the area of Big Data) as I believe this would profit me much better in the long run here in Nigeria (whether my bank takes me back or not) as there is a lack of experts/ professionals in the field here and my bank and a host of other firms could end up being my clients in the future. I intend deferring and reapplying for FALL 2018 |

temitope2598: Thanks Twoods! As much as you can be a little "too" blunt sometimes, I find myself screengrabbing a lot of your posts here when you give invaluable advice. If only... Just if only you could strike a balance...... (Think about it) Nevertheless, I still believe you're one of the best things(animate) that ever happened to this thread.
Happy Holidays Sir!. I sincerely agree with you. Twoods is one of the best things that has happened to us on this thread. More like a CUSTOMER CARE REPRESENTATIVE... LOL. Though he could be a core critic o and most times misunderstood as being harsh in response, but when you read between the lines, then you will appreciate him more. |

imperiouxx: You have the potential but you came off as an ingenuine applicant because you started stuttering at the crucial time.
Work on your composure. I think I told you something like this after the first interview. Compliments of the season bro. Been a while. To be Frank with you, I do not know what happened to me on that day. I really felt I had a great chance as I flowed well with the VO before I suddenly went blank from no where. I went home that day and cried myself sour as I relayed my experience to my brother and friend @Mayorboi. I am yet to defer till FALL 2018 as I do not know how best to put my words together to notify the school I was denied a visa. This is because I don't know how to ask them if the tuition waiver and free campus housing they offered me can still be available by the Fall semester. In addition to this, does being denied an F1 visa twice (November and December) in any way have a dent on my next chance of reapplying? Cos I intend reapplying for another interview by FALL? I will appreciate responses from you baba, from @Twoods, @Lagosismyhome and any other person who has answers to my question. Compliments of the season handsome and beautiful people... |

AfonjaBoston: . . . Coming from an unfortunate, rejected and frustrated perennial US visa applicant.
I totally understand what you must be going through Not fair bro. You choice of words are hurting. Yes we were denied visas while you got approved isn't enough reason to laugh and make mockery of anyone. He stated he was married and had a family with kids. I expected you should at least respect that fact and ignore completely. You've got your mouth though bro, but put yourself in his shoes since you claim to understand how he feels exactly. Best is to even ignore completely and not opening up fresh wounds over and over again with your harsh words. I have been denied even after the gurus here didn't see any issues with my transcript. I felt bad as I had a scholarship too I wished to grab. But it's not the end of the world most certainly. Your choice of words hurt so so bad. Not fair at all in my own opinion. I meant no harm or attack on you. But it won't cost you much to be encouraging either... Cheers bro and compliments of the season. |

Dollarh: Hello everybody I've been a silent follower of this thread . I wish I consulted someone here before having my interview on dec6 it went as thus: Vo: where are you going Me: v.i.u for my masters degree programme in computer science. Vo: why do u want to have your masters Me: to be more more competitive as adviced by the organisation I worked with Vo cuts in: why did u choose this school Me: I exchanged email with some lecturers in the institution and I noticed the curriculum fits perfectly with my career goals Vo: how are you planning on achieving that ? Me: *stammers* i would work hard *stammers* with my studies *vo drinks water* *stammer* Vo: it seems you don't know what you want Me: *angry* i intend on being a professional it specialist Vo: name some courses you'll be taking Me: mentions few courses Vo: who is your sponsor? Me: my mother Vo: what does she do Me: she is a tier 1 distributor with bat Vo: what does that mean? Me: try explaining Vo: hands blue paper Then I stormed out really sad, I'm not taking no for an answer I am planning on having another interview by March I would need the help of everyone here please point out my mistakes and the way I can get back there and come out smiling. Merry Christmas in advance Sorry for the delay bro/ sis, but you need to readdress the words in BOLD. First, VIU has been identified by gurus here as a ONE BUILDING school. So why not apply to other top proper schools that offer Computer Science? Secondly, your answers or responses get as e be. Does it mean that if your office doesn't suggest you pursue masters, u wont have done so? Thirdly, your responses made the VO conclude you do not know what you want. Therefore, address these, ensure you take the standardized tests and try again (with a good school o). cheers baba. I wish you the best. |

Ayat1209: I perfectly understand you. But how do you think it's easy to prepare for gre when I work 7.30 to 4.30 Mondays to Friday and 9.00 to 3pm on Saturday, among other commitments. My question is should I reapply and what do I need to adjust here.? Mama ejima (mom of twins), please you need a GRE to cover for applying to "one safe school". I understand you have a tight work schedule, but the VO won't understand that. They are sacrifices we make if we are serious on pursuing studies abroad. The VOs are doing their work. I will advice, never refire now. Defer till fall and prepare and sit for GRE. God bless you Ma and my regards to your twins and baby boy. |

Please house, my second visa interview was delayed. I really felt bad cos my first visa outing was very okay as even agreed by most members of this forum. But in the second interview, i suddenly went blank trying to explain to the VO why I need a masters (I didn't cram. I just don't know how it happened and afterwards picked up to finish it up after VO encouraged me to calm down and relax. However, he said I couldn't convince him I was a genuine student). Truth be told. I cried when I got home Am a little bit worried. My school resumes 10th January, 2018 and I don't know what exactly to do as I don't know how to respond in the event of being asked SO WHAT HAS CHANGED? Even scared of the unknown; if am to reapply a third time in SPRING (I fear it may send signals am desperate) or chill till FALL? I need advise. Do I defer till Fall and get back to work? I also fear deferring till FALL will see me loose my free campus housing and tuition waiver all the same. I really feel bad getting to miss out this time as I had programmed my studies and hoped it ended 2019 as I was programming to settle down afterwards. |

Visa delayed AGAIN at the Lagos Embassy. It happened like a mirage. Though VO was sharing BLUE PAPER like cabin biscuit to all the guys before me. But truth is, they weren't responding fine and when it got to my turn, I approached him smiling. Though I am yet to explain what happened to me cos I was really balling like it was hot... VO: Hello good morning. Me: Good morning Sir? How was your night. VO: Am fine thank you. Pass me your passport and i-20. Me: Here it is. (Passed it). VO: So where are you going to? Me: I am going to TAMUK, Texas to pursue my masters degree in Mathematics and Statistics with a concentration in Statistical Analytics, Computing and Modelling. VO: okay? How many schools did you apply to? Me: I applied to 3 schools. TAMUK, Indiana University and McNesse State University. VO: so why did you choose TAMUK over Indiana? Me: TAMUK is a research University and has great research facilities which include the Javelina Algebra Lab which is the computer classroom for my department and the James C. Jeernigan Library which is one of the largest libraries in Texas and I believe having access to such research facilities will be a great boost as it will broaden my academic horizons. VO: Nodding his head like agama lizard. Me: (continued) also, in my quest to know more about the school, I downloaded the official school's app which keeps me up to date with happenings in the school. In addition to this, I developed a good relationship with Professor.... (VO cuts in). VO: When did you graduate? Me: November 2011. VO: What is your highest qualification? Me: I hold a bachelor's in Computer Science. VO: So since after school, what have you been doing? Me: After school, I served and then got a job at xyz bank as a Service Executive. I am an ATM custodian and my roles are blablabla... VO: nods his head again and ask So why masters? Me: Sorry? VO: I said, why do you wanna pursue a masters? Me: Well, the prospects and opportunities for this course are extremely high in Nigeria and their is a lack of professionals... VO cuts in: What do you mean by prospects? Me: Job prospects. VO: Oh? Okay? Me (continues): For example, big data and analytics which is one of the courses I will study at TAMUK is relatively new here in Nigeria and experts in the field are hard to source. (VO again nodding continuously like agama) Me (continued). Companies here in Nigeria who need the services of big data analysts have no other choice but to hire expatriate professionals from other technologically advanced countries like the US.... VO now nodding harder and harder.. Me: (now feeling like a don jazzy singing ogbeni feli feli continues)... and there is the need to..... (I went blank. Mind you, i never crammed this o. I was flowing and VO was nodding his head and all of a sudden I forgot what I was saying entirely and where i was drivinf at.) VO was still nodding his head and looking at me ooooo and with the expression in his face, was like, hey? Whatsup nah? Continue, am enjoying the gist... Me: (I opened my mouth to talk, but nothing came out. Hey? I was doomed....) VO: Me: (stammering....) Am sorry sir.... VO: Just calm down. Take your time. Me: (Just like Danfo wey dey push down a hill I pick up).... and studying this course will equip me with the analytical and technical skills needed to flourish as a data analyst and will help me fill the gap for a lack of indigenous big data analysts in my country. VO: (indifferent) Have you travel out of the country before? Me: No. I have not had any need to. VO: Who is your sponsor? Me: My dad. VO: What does he do? Me: he is into haulage, supply and distribution of petroleum products. He also owns petrol stations here in Lagos and Aba VO: Are you married? Me: No, but am engaged. VO: brings out the devilish love letter from the devil's mailbag)... Am sorry you do not qualify.... Me: (goes deaf)... but summoned courage to ask, BUT WHAT WENT WRONG THIS TIME? (I expected him to say that yeye paper will explain but he said something else). VO; Am sorry, you failed to convince me you are a genuine student. Me: thank you. VO: Have a nice day Without being told, I know I screwed up when I off like say them press my remote from village.... All the same, I wish my people well... Mercybliss, I will sincerely miss u from the depth of my heart. @Tosin baba, represent us well. visible006: Actually the sickness never happened to me on day-time, it's always at night when I am asleep even if someone tells you that I have epilepsy you'll likely doubt the person because I don't have injuries or wound, the sickness will just come and go before morning....
I don't want to quit serving my oga because it will be a lost to me and I don't know how life will look for me if I do...... and my oga is even doubting me that I don't such sickness..
So I just want to finish serving him and it remain another three years...
But I just want to find out from nairaland doctors If (maybe when I get the money) I will find any medical solution to this type of sickness..
Please oga seun and lalasticlala help me push this to front page..

EZEIGBO2OFIMO: Yes, some people have gotten their Visas with Lincoln university, but to spend $XX,000 On an MBA from an unranked school (even Lagos Business schools is a better alternative) will not seem like a wise investment to a very strict VO( that interviewed you)
Nothing at all wrong here
Well, the VO simply didn't buy this answer; the average Nigerian graduate doesn't want to end up working in their parents SME, even entrepreneurial grads prefer to stay on their feet. Next time, you can simply say your work at an Agricultural Processing plant. Never volunteer more information than is neccessary
Again, very unconvincing, the bay area is one of the most expensive areas in cali, and considering that you're paying heavily for an unranked MBA in one of the most expensive cities on earth, it further makes little financial sense; No offence there.
Unranked MBA + Expensive City + Weak Employment History = your denial Beautiful breakdown and advise. I like the way you break it down most times for us here. God bless you Mr. Check my Signature Very well said. |

2theoptimist: I was denied yesterday. The stress was just too much. My interview was 7: 15 am, I got there 7 11 am. Then paid 1k to have my phone kept for me. After the whole screening. I was about to get interviewed, i was keeping a smiling face at first then it got to my turn then my heart started beating. I was interviewed in windows 3 by a white man not to old. in his fifty's. VO: Why do you want to study? ME: My company has recently advised me to improve my cv to get promoted. VO: How did you hear about the school? ME: My project supervisor during first degree advised me to further my studies in the school. His brother finished from there. I also did my own research and found out they have a curriculum that fits into my line of interest. (paused a bit and was typing very fast like a machine) VO: Have you traveled before? ME: No, i have had not had any reason to, my education in taking out for the first time. VO: Are you married? ME; No VO; Do you have children? ME : No VO: Who is your sponsor? ME : My dad VO: What does he do? ME: He is a private successful business man and he imports equipment into Nigeria and he is also a private contractor. (typing very fast.) Then the breaking news.Am sorry can not approve your visa now. blue paper. i just left feeling bad. am sure he saw it in my face. Where did I miss it. Please guys advise. Am scared ooooo You don't have to be scared bro. You got it all wrong from the first question but we get to learn everyday. See the bold, readdress it and refire. Bold 1: Does it mean if your company had not advised you to improve your CV, u wud never have thought of it in ur life time? That's the first red flag. Shooting urself in the leg. Bold 2: just like someone rightly pointed out here, go straight to the point when answering questions. My father imports equipment and he is a contractor. Do not beat around the bush. VOs don't have time. Their hands are itching to delay your visa. Don't think they are in a hurry to dish you the white paper o |

iCool: For those coming to the Javelina Nation - Jerrypeacelinks, tosinooo, realdude88, cephas0009 and others i do not know of, you can reach me by quoting this post with your whatsapp number or email or you mail icoolnaija@gmail.com.
For any assistance you need, from the smallest to the biggest, we can find a way to make it work.
Landing at San Antonio airport (2hours 30mins) and Corpus Christi airport (1hour) to school are convenient but more expensive.
George Bush IAH (4hours to kingsville) - the most preferred and cheaper option for those landing here for school - is like 35minutes from Greyhound at 2121 Main street Houston and cost around $40 by Uber. Then about $70 Greyhound Houston to Kingsville. This price fluctuates. Plus an additional $15-$20 to get to 'your apartment' from your last stop at kingsville.
There are cheaper options to do this, one being the group >>TAMUK rides<< on facebook. You can also schedule a pickup organised by the school, IAH to school, but you need to book this. Thanks a bunch bro for this info. We are the JavelinaNation |
