Politics › Re: Hiring Tompolo, others To Secure Oil Facilities Is An Insult To Nigerians -Dakolo by Jetro033: 12:34pm On Jul 12, 2023 |
hisexcellency34: The Chairman, Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, and Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom, King Bubaraye Dakolo, Agada IV, on Tuesday said it is an insult for the Federal Government to neglect the official security agencies and hire private security outfits to secure oil installations and apprehend oil thieves.
The monarch who authored a book ‘The Riddle of the Oil Thief’ was reacting to the contract awarded by the Federal Government to Tantita Security Services Limited, the pipeline surveillance security outfit owned by the former militant leader, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo a.k.a. Tompolo.
Speaking on Arise TV, he said hiring the likes of Tompolo to secure oil installations while the Navy and other security agencies are neglected is an aberration which shows how low Nigeria has become.
Dakolo who said oil thieves can end in two weeks if the President is serious about it also said Nigerian security agencies can end oil theft and secure our installations if the president gives them the marching order to do so.
To do this, the security agencies should be trained and well funded and equipped to carry out their task.
He said "For me, it underscores how low the Nigerian state has descended where it seems to have lost faith in our law enforcements to the level where you want private, perhaps not so well trained hands to help to do the job. It is so because our economy is in tatters. There is no job for people so everyone wants to look at how to make a living out of everything and you want to engage them in that manner".
"First and foremost, if the government of Nigeria were able to get the economy of Nigeria working to the point where it was a dollar to a naira, I can tell you that people will not want to go and vandalise oil installations. If the Nigerian economy becomes robust, I can tell you that most people will not want to get interested in what they are being contracted to do today".
"What the Nigerian state ought to do is to equip the Navy, give them more funds, equip law enforcements and give them more trainings to be professional. Bringing in hands that are not trained to come and do a job meant for the Navy is an insult to the Nigerian state and insult to the Navy. I think Nigerian state will benefit more if they pump in more resources to the Navy and give them the marching order to deal with the oil thieves". "Right now, what we are seeing is an aberration that shouldn’t be seen or told. The private contractors should have been faceless. The best they could have done is to give intelligence to the official law enforcements like the Navy or JTF".
https://worldviewafrica.com/fg-contracting-tompolo-others-to-secure-oil-facilities-shows-how-low-nigeria-has-gone-dakolo/ Whose Navy? Nigeria naval personal that can't even walk in stream. Nigeria Navy is full of personal that can't even swim for five good consecutive munite not to talk of attack in the sea and large water body. Ibime: Ijaw has different dialects. Okrika is different from Kalabari which is different from Ibani. Western Ijaw is also different from Eastern Ijaw. It is just like Portuguese and Spanish. They understand each other but they cannot speak in the other tongue.
For example, for 'How are you', a Kalabari man would ask 'Tobra?' and you would answer 'Ibim' or 'Ibiwirere' (I am good)
An Okrika man would ask 'Idanloku?' and you would answer 'Ibime' I'm from Arogbo in Ondo state, we say Tebra and answers iyofa. |

Any Police officer tracking phones have to pay the ICT personnel that will provide information on the location of the criminals and you don't expect the police officer to fund the tracking with his small salary. Their only work is to use the information given to them about the location, movement, the phone number of both the criminal and phone numbers of the people that usually interact with him on phone and heat map of their target to locate the person. They once helped in tracking my friends lost phone and were impressed by their performance. It is the government that has failed to equip the Nigerian Police properly. So community instead of providing the N60, 000 will prefer to pay N30, 000,000.00 to the bandits? |

ChinenyeN: Yes, definitely. I know a few people from various places throughout the Lower Niger who can confirm that at least one of their grandparents were Saro. I also wouldn’t be surprised if there were a bit of higher concentration of Saro in the riverine parts of the Lower Niger. Compared to most other communities in Southern Nigeria (aside from Lagos), the Ijaw had well-known controversial relationship with the Saro as far as politics and governance.
We don’t hear anything about it now perhaps because the Saro in the area have been effectively absorbed into the local communities that they resettled in. if I may ask, who are the Saro' |
Culture › Re: Ijaw Originating As European Ship Servants From Ghana, India , Indonesia Etc. by Jetro033: 2:27pm On Nov 06, 2021 |
ChinenyeN: There are black Africans who did arrive with Europeans in the 19th century, but they were not Ijaw. As in, “Ijaw”, as an ethnic community, did not come to Nigeria as European indentured servants. Ijaw oral traditions suggest that they were just as established in Nigeria as other groups by the time Europeans arrived, and this can be corroborated with the oral traditions of other groups.
If I had to hazard a guess, it is most likely the case that this story of “arriving with Europeans” refers to the “Saro” people (Sierra Leoneans). They were actually returnees (formerly enslaved), and they came from different ethnic communities in Nigeria.
Many southern Nigeria communities have one story or another that refers to this returnee migration. I don’t know how it came to be associated with Ijaw, especially since there was known tension between Ijaw and some Saro returnees.
Long story short, it seems that people now use returnee migration to spite Ijaw people for whatever reason. At least, this is my interpretation. Perhaps someone who knows better might be able to clarify things or correct me where I may be mistaken. when the colonial white men came into Nigeria, the first people they meet with are the Ijaws in present day Facrados, in Delta State, show how come? |
