akpomeme: Have any of these allegations proven? Isn't it why we have such body as ICPC or EFCC, let people fucntion and be judged over time by their actions. You can't be thrwoing allegations without prove. All we keep doing is pedal speculations until they become our new reality. Perception is everthing. This country has been under siege since and before 196. What makes you think that htose you advocate for will change anything? Look at Lagos today, people are being forced out of their lands and property to satisfy Tinubu and his cohorts!!! Isn't that corruption in itself?

ddippset: so you want to use uruguay versus spain to judge nigeria versus uruguay? i bet uruguay would be 5-0 up against tahiti by now! if we play against spain we will not see 30% of the ball, then other people will tell you that'judging by what we saw in the game nigeria against spain, nigeria is ........bla bla bla'
Goin into dz second match, who holds advantage? NgA, why? We hv 3points +5 goals difference, Uru 0point, -1 goal diff...u tell me who will com out more? Who will be more cautious? Who will try harder! URU will wanna com out and win, dey will do errfin dey can...ma bliv is nga will be calm in their build up, play frm d flanks, Hold ball in middile thru deep playin playmarker of mikel approach! Dat guy has a way of imposing himself on games @ bigger stage...nga will b more discipline in their markings and will use all available tactics to frustrate Uru...I sincerely trust ma gut dat URu in not in our class, I saw d match against spain again and I hv to say dey only depend on heavily on their attackin prowess (if suarez fails to connect dey long 4 ball) I hav to also say cavani is good, buh I am yet to see him super fly b4 evn in napoli shirt, buh I kno he can score well...3points awaits nigeria against uru don't care how or when/// ma believe*

SportsEagles Bonus Row: NFF Was Not Fair To The Players, Says Godfrey Gaiya by jibsai(op): 11:51am On Jun 17, 2013
I must say I find this story interesting:
Chairman House of Representatives Committee Chairman, Honourable Godfrey Gaiya has absolved the Super Eagles of any blame in the show of shame that Nigeria was subjected to in Windhoek, Namibia when the players refused to board the arranged flight to Rio de Janeiro via South Africa.

The legislator who has been a passionate football lover was very blunt when he told Goal that the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation did not put the players and their interests in the true picture of the financial issues relating to the two World Cup qualifying matches played against Kenya and Namibia last week. He then narrated in full what went wrong and how Senate President David Mark rescued the situation.

"Let me say it the way it happened. Good enough I was in Kenya, I actually paid my way into Kenya and later to Namibia for the two important 2014 World Cup qualifiers. I was there in Namibia when the issue of players’ revolt against non-payment of their bonuses came up but none of us were put in the picture. I was in Namibia with the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports (Senator Adamu Gumba) with the two other members of the House Committee on Sports,” said Gaiya.

“Up till the time we got to the airport neither me nor the Senate Committee Chairman on Sports knew there was an impending issue on payment of players' bonuses. Yes let us agree that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has the powers to determine the bonuses of the players. Let us also accept that it is within the powers of the NFF to streamline and downsize where there is a need to do so.

"The issue here is that if there was the need for the NFF to either downsize their staff or to reduce the bonuses of players.

"Two things should have been done which are - consulting those of us who are from the other side, we have the powers to make appropriation. Whatever kobo the NFF is spending has to come through the National Assembly.  At no time were we told that they had issues to do with finance.

"There is no paper as I am talking to you now that has come to the House (of Representatives) to even tell us that they have downsized or that they have reduced the bonuses of the players. We never knew about it and we have never been consulted.

"You see it takes two to tango. It is the right of the players to be carried along when issues to do with their welfare is to be considered. I want to say here that the NFF should have taken the players into confidence and some form of negotiations as regards the major reasons for slashing the $10,000 winning bonus to $5,000. None of us were told formally that the allowances or bonuses of the players were slashed.

"I paid my way to Namibia like I did to Kenya to also be with the team. Part of my reasons for being there is also to ensure all is well with the team but surprisingly I wasn't informed that the players rejected the bonuses.

We were with the Nigerian Ambassador to Namibia at Windhoek nobody disclosed this bonus issue where we could have thrashed the matter and resolved it amicably there not until we got to the (Namibian) airport when the players refused to connect their flight to Rio de Janeiro until their full and correct bonuses were paid. I had already connected to Nairobi but thank God the Chairman Senate Committee on Sports immediately became the middle man.

"Senator Gumba had to call the Senate President to inform him of the bonus row. The Senate President immediately got in touch with President Goodluck Jonathan who agreed that he was going to make up (for the remaining balance of the bonuses).

"It was from there the Senate President arranged for the Sports Minister to see Mr President who ordered that the Minister should go back and work out the shortcoming (the remaining balance). The money was eventually wired to the team from the Presidency.

Goal also gathered that the Eagles were later paid the sum of $10,000 each for beating Kenya 1-0 in Nairobi and $5,000 each for the 1-1 draw they got against Namibia in Windhoek.

Gaiya also revealed to Goal that the players acted the way they did to prevent the NFF from paying them same reduced bonus for the Confederations Cup since they are aware that Globacom is sponsoring Nigeria to the competition and each player knows that they are entitled to nothing less than $10,000 each for matches that would be played at the Confederations Cup that commenced in Brazil on Saturday.

"Two issues are very apparent here, the players know that the Confederations Cup in Brazil is being sponsored and the sponsor has already agreed to pay them per win. Even if the NFF has done whatever within their capacity they ought to have assured and re-assured the players that whatever they are doing has nothing to do with what they stand to receive as allowances and bonuses for the Confederations Cup. So the players were scared stiff of being short changed.

"This action shows that there was no transparency, no openness in communication and thirdly nobody was carried along in what the NFF was doing.

"So for the Confederations Cup, Globacom is catering for the entire needs of the Super Eagles including ticketing for travelling to and fro venue of the competition, bonuses and allowances. The reason being that the competition although is being rated by FIFA but not in the normal calendar of FIFA. All nations participating are expected to have a sponsor. So in Nigeria's case Globacom is catering for everything and the Federal Government through the National Sports Commission is not expected to spend a kobo," Gaiya opened up.
Jarus: I have never heard Ivroian super stars make news over bonus. Yet, they die on the pitch for their war-torn country.

Drogba plyas even the most meaningless of friendlies. Ditoo for Yaya Toure and co. Despite being bigger stars than our own plyaers they are more committed to their national team.

We celebrate Yekini as our all-time highest goal scorer with 37 goals. Drogba has close to 60 national team goals already.
What is your point? They don't collect bonuses? Meaningless friendlies like ?? This above is B.S

Keshi gambled at AFCON and was lucky. 11 outfield players without a bench. he got lucky but for how long. We filled our bench with local league players that will not add value to d team. Keshi had local league defenders on d bench at AFCON but still played onazi RB against Zambia. Why? huh? Onazi got injured and we re panicking. what if mikel follows suit. We re supposed to have depth both in field and bench. not passengers. We had 8 local based players at AFCON how many kicked the ball? 2 same thing will happen in brazil. Onazi is down one of them should take his position as simple as that. But I know. Oguh will be deployed to that unfamiliar territory. I dey watch and pray.
Um! Boss dat not true u know? Why would a national team go to a tournament to gamble? SportsNigeria Will Be In Brazil By Saturday... by jibsai(op): 3:01pm On Jun 14, 2013
Nigeria will play in the Confederations Cup after resolving the bonus row that ensured that the team missed a flight from Windhoek, Namibia on Thursday.

The team is now expected to arrive in Brazil on Saturday before playing its first game against Tahiti on Monday.

Fifa general secretary Jerome Valke told Reuters that the dispute has now been resolved. “I spoke with the team manager and they will be in a plane on Saturday and will be at the Confederations Cup, so the issue is solved,” he said.

The Super Eagles were fighting over the unilateral slashing of their match bonuses by the Nigeria Football Federation which claimed that it was cutting overhead costs.

Instead of receiving $10,000 for a win, they were offered $5000 for their 1-0 victory over Kenya in Nairobi last week in a 2014 World Cup qualifying match.

Their $5000 draw bonus was also cut to $2500 for their 1-1 draw against Namibia on Wednesday.

The leadership of the three merging political parties on Tuesday announced that they had finally approached the Independent National Electoral Commission to merge into one under the name, All Progressive Congress.

The three merging parties are the Action Congress of Nigeria, All Nigeria Peoples Party and the Congress for Progressive Change.

But the merging parties failed to announce interim officers as speculated.

Spokesperson for the merger committee of the three political parties, Chief Tom Ikimi, told journalists in Abuja that the national chairmen, secretaries and treasurers of the three parties had submitted their letters of intent to merge to INEC on Friday.

Ikimi spoke at the end of the committee's meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

He, however, refused to disclose the names of the interim leaders of the yet-to-be registered APC, saying they would not be stampeded to do so.

Rather, he said they were satisfied with the submission of letters of intent to merge and that the request was already pending before the electoral body.

Ikimi was flanked at the briefing by the both the former Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, who represented the ANPP and a former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Mohammed Gadi, who also stood in for the CPC.

He said, "The final document for registration in accordance with INEC regulations has to be signed by the National Chairman, National Secretary and National Treasurer of each of the merging parties."

Ikimi debunked the insinuations in some quarters that the merging committee was unable to agree on who should lead the APC in the interim.

He said the names of prospective interim leaders were being discussed and that representatives of each merging party and some sections of All Progressive Grand Alliance and the DPP had been mandated to report back to the leaders of their group on the matter.

An APGA faction led by Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha  has been romancing with the merging parties but it could not formally key in to the process because the different faction in the party have not been able to agree to hold their convention.

Ikimi said, "That is being discussed and it is being worked out and we need to consult further with our various parties in order to agree with those names.

"There are no disagreements and we as merging parties are working and we had a fruitful meeting this afternoon and we have made fundamental decisions.

"One of the decisions is that we should now consult further with our various parties (on the names of those to lead the newly formed party)."

He said he was happy that the Merging Committee had been able to conclude work on the choice of name, logo, slogan, symbol, constitution and a manifesto of the new party, saying this had made it possible for the merging parties to hold their conventions.

Ikimi said he was happy that  Nigerians were waiting for the final registration of the party so that they could avail themselves the opportunity of joining the APC.

He assured Nigerians that the new party would be broad-based, open and truly belong to all its members equally.

He said, "To this end, we have all subscribed to our new constitution (in the APC) and it defines, quite clearly, the leadership structure of the party.

"This principle underscored equality and fair play among party members without prejudice.

"We will therefore strive to guarantee transparency and internal party democracy, particularly at this stage of registration.

"We expect all of us involved in the process to also subscribe to and respect the fundamental principles.

"Everyone committed to providing our country this platform of change must be prepared to make the necessary sacrifice."

Spokespersons for the ACN and CPC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Mr. Rotimi Fashakin respectively, assured Nigerians that there was no crisis within the ranks of the members of the merging political parties.

Mohamed said the leaders of the new party were confident that INEC would soon issue them the letters of registration and that the non-submission of the interim leaders of the party to the electoral body would not have any negative effect on its registration.

Asked if the leaders of the merging political parties had agreed on the sharing formula of those that would make the list of the interim committee, Mohammed said, "You will know in due course.

"Let me tell you one thing, nobody would stampede us and no amount of pressure would make us do what we know is not proper."

He said the merger would be the first time such would happen in the country, adding that its promoters would not be distracted with criticisms because "we know we are on the right course."

At the meeting were Okorocha; former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa; and a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Audu Ogbeh.
