9jaBloke:
I think this issue is being overflogged.
Let's analyse the players:

Prof. W.S;
He is over 80 years, so it is very possible that he took that seat by mistake
If it was deliberate and he prefered window seats for obvious reasons, he should have planned it better-Ask for the seat during booking, most airlines would be happy to indulge him.
He didn't see it as a big deal so he got up. There's absolutely nothing petty about WS.

Bobo Fine;
He is young and probably exuberant and may not have recognised or even known WS
He may have gone the extra mile to get a window seat
He is opinionated and non-conventional
We don't know his story (no one actually knows this guy's story so we can't keep judging him). He might have a condition, he might have been unstable, goodness knows!
He was operating within his rights so he actually commited no crime.

Tonye Cole:
Was okay to have tried to reason with Bobo Fine but should have stayed out of it after the incident.
Had no business uploading that picture.
Probably did it to trend and gain national popularity for his Guber ambition.

Nigeria:
There's already the underlying issue of lawlessness and lack of regard for orderliness.
There's also the issue of the elders' demand for respect and their sense of entitlement.
Also, many Nigerians will rather go sentimental and more often than not, the real issues are left unaddressed.

Me:
I totally totally adore Prof. Wole Soyinka, I've read almost everything he has published and his views and policies resonate with me. I will consider it a privilege for him to have my seat on a plane (deliberately or mistakenly).

That said, If i catch any unidentified elder on my seat, you will surely have to 'gbe bodi' but i will definitely demand it very politely.

It's not really about respect. I have maximum respect for senior citizens. I defer to ladies, children and the elderly.

I just think we have to restore order and enforce some basic social principles so that this country can have a good shot at working.
BEST COMMENT SO FAR.

You said it all

You can't get the ebook full version free of charge, you can only get the demo pdf free by searching it in google, i saw it on google books then and another website like that. You can get the hardcopy in Nigerian book stores.

I've gotten some scare book online in the past like "there was a country, achebe" it all depends on how you know how to search online. If i want something i will get it as long as it's online. Although not 100% of time but i get whatever i want online 80% of the time.

[size=18pt]Well, first thing first

Your moniker: Lilmaydee, shows you've made yourself Lil'

I mean you wanna be big and you're already calling yourself little Maydee...

To me, this really shows your mindset already, and it will be obvious in so many things you do, and people will see the cummulative of it all and therefore treat you like a small person.

When you talk to people ... Look into their eye

When you dress, drees smart and neat always... spend money in yourself to look good, even if you don't have the money. The person asking what do you wanna use moeny to do... S/he made comment obviously because you were oozing low self-esteem. Guy, if you want money, you have to look like money, no matter how short you are or how cretin you are, you are want you think yourself to be.

Peace!

And what do you know about structural stabilities?

With these pictures, how does it justify that the structure was healthy or failing ?
Jibsonified:
aftermath.

So as we can evidently see, a building of such number of floors is not just stable by mere sight.

Just as a person may be suffering from a disease that doesn't show any sign. Suddenly he collapsed and upon getting to the hospital the doctor said he had been suffering from high blood pressure.

A person suffering from high BP can never know unless he does a BP test.

So in the case of this building, it had been suffering from Structural Failure which may not be readily visible to people.

Unless you are registered and experienced Civil Engineer, you most likely will not know.

From my findings, It was said that the building have no approval and have been marked for demolition, so how come people were still allowed to inhabit, talk less of schooling children there.

This show a total disregard that most of us in Nigeria love to do, some of them may have just felt that the building looks good and whoever is saying otherwise is just after something else. Or, they may be saying "God Forbid".

Prevention is always better than cure

This is a great lesson for house owners and inhabitants of any building especially storey buildings.

Always confirm the building you are posseses the state approval.

If you are a house owner, employ the services of a COREN registered Engineer that can carry our Structural Stability Test.

A very detailed audit of a building should be carried out regularly.

Another finding showed that the building was originally designed to carry a storey building. Developers added 3 more floors and Kaboom... destined it for destruction!!

So many house owners desperate to have their house rise up high like others are being duped by developers. These quack developers use substandard materials to maximise their profit, hence, minimising the value of life as we have seen today.

This is one trap every residents should look out for when renting apartment. Do not rent converted apartments, especially storey buildings that get to have additional floors. Proper investigation should be made before renting such apartments.

There are so many lessons to be learnt.

You'all can add more to enlighten the public of the menace of lives and property..

You're very correct! It's foolhardy to speculate much less pontificate on the structural integrity of any building by mere photographic impressions.

Any comment based on aesthetic indices of a structure that seeks to justify the stability or otherwise of the composite structural elements can best be described as delusional.

Any structural engineer can easily relate. huh

From the picture you can all see that there are no striking evicence that there is anything wrong with the building.

In fact the building looked stronger than the building on its right hand side

PropertiesBefore & After Pictures Of Collapsed Building At Ita Faji: Lessons To Be Learnt by Jibsonified(op):
The heartbreaking news of collapse of a 5-floor building at Massey Street, Ita Faji, Lagos Island is still rippling its chills accross the world.

The eyes of the world are on Nigeria on the current rescue operations ongoing. With the magnitude of collapse many of the children in the Primary School which was said to be on the fourth are feared to be severely injured or dead.

We all hope and pray that rescue operations by the Lagos State Government and other well meaning Nigerians results to bringing out as many persons as possible alive.

This sad incidence is not first time it's happening and it therefore begs a lot of questions

What was the building condition before the incident?, How did it look like? Was there any approval for this 5-floor building?.... So many questions we can ask.

I dug out November 2017 pictures of the building before it collapsed.

Check out the pictures and you will see that there are a lot of lesson we can learn as regards the structural stability of a building
