go to www.codeacademy.com nd practice their html nd css, u will be given a task as u learn then finally a project in d last part. am sure u will b beta wen u finish it. They also av tutorials on JavaScript, php, python etc. for any1 dat wants 2 learn programming.

cbrass: I don't think I will agree woth you on this..Do you know how long it takes to code a whole theme?? So I feel customizing an existing one is fast

sure nd most themes comes with a documentation. every style u ever need 2 change can be done in d theme option from wp-admin (d site back end). u shuld b able 2 change anytin without touching d codes, dats wat a cms is all about. if u still nid 2 do heavy customization eg. add nd remove functions, dats wen u create a child theme (so dat ur next upgrade won't affect ur changes).

olupentane: I didn't set any password during installation.

try "root" as d password

search 4 mysql notifier on system, click on it. it won't bring out anything, go 2 ur toolbar (on d screen whr ur ba3, network, speaker etc is), find my sql notifier, right click nd start it (jst mk sure its running).
now open my sql command line client (run as administrator) nd type d password u set during d installation.

Dont 4get javascript. It is used: 2 mk pages dynamic, clients-side validation 4 forms so ur users wont nid 2 open a new page 2 c errors they made during d form, 4 pictures gallery also etc.
I doubt u can finish learning javascript, so jst skip 2 learning javascript libraries eg. Jquery wen u noe enough javascript. Javascript and jquery The missing manual is a gud book, u can search nd download it.

The bolded above....is that what you are trying to achieve?

Does the theme you are using support custom menu?

GO TO
Admin > Appearance > Menus

See if you have a message like:

Your theme supports custom menus.

If it does then you need to create a menu and assign this to to a location.

1. New Menu, give it a simple name
2. Add a menu item type custom url, call this Home and add your websites URL
3. You can add categories, posts or pages to the menu, drag them to the right to indent (dropdown levels) them.
4. Save the menu

Now, your categories on your sidebar will be a reflection of your posts. I hope i didnt miss the actual question.

am on a web project(using wordpress). i dont want some posts to show meta info eg.date, author info etc. Normally pages should do it, but due to d way i want d permarlink to b structured (example.com/%category%/%postname%) nd i also want each posts to show all items in the same category by the side bar. pages cant accomplish this because it cant be categorised. i was able to remove meta info frm d posts by setting it as sticky then i added
