Even celebrities fall victim to phishing attacks. A complaint filed in New York earlier this week claims that a man from the Bahamas allegedly tricked hundreds of stars into telling him their email account passwords. With that information, he reportedly stole their personal data, including at least one victim's sexually explicit material, as well as their professional work, like unreleased movie scripts and music. According to the complaint, 23-year-old Alonzo Knowles reached out to a popular radio show host earlier this month with screenshots of upcoming TV episode scripts and an offer to sell them (the host and TV shows in question are not identified in the complaint). He claimed to already possess the first six episodes of an upcoming season and promised to get the rest once filming wrapped. The radio host immediately went to law enforcement, and a day later, Knowles messaged the host’s phone number, which he allegedly obtained through his hacking endeavors. The radio host then replied, with law enforcement's nod of approval, and connected Knowles with an undercover agent. Ultimately, the agent flew Knowles to the US around two weeks later under the false pretense of wanting to purchase movie scripts and celebrity information. Knowles was arrested upon his arrival and after accepting the agent’s $80,000 during the devised transaction. IF PHISHING DIDN’T WORK, HE TURNED TO MALWARE Throughout their discussions, Knowles claimed to have access to sex tapes, scripts, and the personal information of at least 130 celebrities. For stars who kept their social security numbers in their emails, he could obtain those, too, along with driver’s license and passport details. His sex tape claim wasn't verified in the complaint beyond one victim. However, he said he could find tapes in compromised accounts. Knowles researched celebrities, likely to figure out how to answer their security questions on their accounts, before going after them. Higher-profile celebrities were apparently more difficult to trick, however, so he often compromised their friends’ accounts first, which he found through pictures of the stars. Once inside their friends' accounts, Knowles could search for victims' phone numbers and "hack" them, the complaint states. HIGHER-PROFILE CELEBRITIES WERE APPARENTLY MORE DIFFICULT TO TRICK Armed with their phone number and email, Knowles sent the targets a phony text message saying their account was compromised and they should text back their password to fix it. Apparently people fell for it. Once in the account, he allegedly changed the answers to their security questions and turned off notifications about those changes, so no one would know anything was amiss. If all that failed, however, Knowles turned to malware designed for Windows devices to gain computer access. Many of the victims had no idea their accounts had been compromised and were only identified because their names were watermarked on their scripts. Knowles appeared in court on Tuesday and was ordered to be detained. He faces charges of criminal copyright infringement and identity theft. http://snet.io/t98 |

New York, Dec 12: After Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has come out in support of Muslims, saying that we must support Muslim and other minority communities in the US and around the world. Responding to a recent wave of prejudice against Muslims - especially in the wake of US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump asking for a ban on Muslims entering the US -- the Indian-born top Google executive reiterated his own experience and said let us not let fear defeat our values. "I came to the US from India 22 years ago. I was fortunate enough to gain entry to a university here, and time after time, I saw that hard work opened other doors. I have built a career and a family and a life here. And I've felt as much a part of this country, as I felt growing up in India," he posted on the social message platform Medium on Saturday. "My experience is obviously not unique. It's been said a million times that America is the "land of opportunity" - for millions of immigrants, it's not an abstract notion, but a concrete description of what we find here. America provided access to opportunities that simply didn't exist for many of us before we arrived," he added. "That is why it's so disheartening to see the intolerant discourse playing out in the news these days", he further said, adding that "statements that our country would be a better place without the voices, ideas and the contributions of certain groups of people, based solely on where they come from, or their religion". According to Pichai, open-mindedness, tolerance and acceptance of new Americans is one of the country's greatest strengths and most defining characteristics. Read More: Muslims always welcome on Facebook: Mark Zuckerberg "And that is no coincidence - America, after all, was and is a country of immigrants," he posted. Earlier this week, Facebook CEO Zuckerberg said that his company would "fight to protect" the rights of Muslims, and work to "create a peaceful and safe environment". In a post, the Facebook founder wrote: "I want to add my voice in support of Muslims in our community and around the world". "After the Paris attacks and hate this week, I can only imagine the fear Muslims feel that they will be persecuted for the actions of others," he added. Zuckerberg, who was blessed with a girl recently, urged the world not to "succumb to cynicism". Pichai supported his views: "I firmly believe that whether you're building a company or leading a country, a diverse mix of voices and backgrounds and experiences leads to better discussions, better decisions, and better outcomes for everyone". "I debated whether to post this, because lately it seems that criticism of intolerance just gives more oxygen to this debate. But I feel we must speak out - particularly those of us who are not under attack. Everyone has the right to their views, but it's also important that those who are less represented know that those are not the views of all," Pichai explained. Trump, the Republican front-runner for the November 2016 presidential election, has proposed banning Muslims from entering the US. Game of Thrones' sixth season is premiering next April. (Spoilers ahead, if that's a concern for you.) HBO shared the new season's first promotional image on Twitter this morning, and it features the bloody visage of a character that currently seems to be hovering somewhere between alive and dead: Jon Snow, former Stark bastard and Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. When we last saw Snow, he was being lured into a trap by disillusioned members of his brigade and stabbed to death in a display of brutal mutiny. Of course, there's been a ton of speculation about his true status since season five's finale aired last June; death doesn't have to mean much within a series that's featured several resurrections. Even though it's entering advanced age by TV drama standards, Game of Thrones just keeps getting more and more popular. Last season's finale drew the show's largest audience ever despite airing against the NBA Finals, and the density of George R.R. Martin's epic fantasy doesn't seem to be scaring off new viewers. If you've somehow managed to escape the series' pull until now, HBO's putting you on notice: you have about five months to catch up. There's still plenty of Game of Thrones to come, too: no less an authority than HBO's head of programming has promised there'll be at least eight seasons spent with Westeros' rich and famous. https://schoolnetwork.io/66/game-of-thrones-announces-season-six-premiere-with-a-bloody-jon-snow

French football icon Just Fontaine has said France should not host the European Championships next year after the Paris terrorist attacks. The 82-year-old, who scored a record 13 goals in six games at the 1958 World Cup, was at the Stade de France on Friday and witnessed the panic after three suicide bombers staged an attack. “It breaks my heart to say this, because I have been looking forward to the European Championships, but I think France should give up the idea of hosting it,” Fontaine told German daily Die Welt. “Every other country could host the championships, just not us. “I greatly fear that there will be a repeat of black Friday.” Three explosions were heard outside the Stade de Francenational stadium during the first half of the friendly between France and Germany. Three suicide bombers killed themselves along with one bystander. The attacks across Paris claimed 129 lives in all. France is due to host the European championships at 10 stadiums across the country between June 10 and July 10, with the final at the Stade de France. French organisers insist the event should go ahead and that extra safety measures will be taken. But Fontaine said: “I think we can’t guarantee the security needed for such a big event, it is simply too dangerous. “Do you think that people will ever be able to go to the Stade de France again?” Fontaine said he was pleased that France will go ahead with a friendly against England at London‘s Wembley on Tuesday. “I can only support the game in England,” said Fontaine. “The murderers must not be allowed to believe that they could win this war against us.” Fontaine, who lives in Toulouse, said he had to wait for four hours before police said it was safe to leave the Stade de France and admitted he had “never known such terror”. “Fear was written on many faces, many people were screaming and crying, it was an absolute nightmare scenario,” he said. “I was held in an outbuilding of the stadium where all the international guests had been taken before the game. “There was a large television, so I could keep a track of the terrible things which were happening. “From minute to minute, more deaths were being reported and before long I could no longer bare to look at the screen.” https://schoolnetwork.io/54/france-should-not-host-euro-2016-fontaine |

Ado-Ekiti- The 156 years old Riemann Hypothesis, the most important problem in Mathematics has been successfully solved by Nigeria Scholar, Dr Opeyemi Enoch. With this breakthrough, Dr Enoch, who teaches at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), has become the fourth egghead to resolve one of the seven Millennium Problems in Mathematics. The Kogi State-born mathematician had, before now, worked on mathematical models and structures for generating electricity from sound, thunder and Oceanic bodies. A statement in Ado Ekiti yesterday said Dr Enoch presentation of the Proof on November 11, 2015 during the International Conference on Mathematics and Computer Science in Vienna, Austria becomes more symbolic coming on the exact day and month 156 years after the problem was delivered by a German Mathematician in 1859. The Riemann Zeta Hypothesis is one of the seven Millennium problems set forth by the Clay Mathematics Institute with a million Dollar reward for each solved problem for the past 16 years. According to the statement, “Dr Enoch first investigated and then established the claims of Riemann. He went on to Consider and to correct the misconceptions that were communicated by Mathematicians in the past generations, thus paving way for his solutions and proofs to be established. “He also showed how other problems of this kind can be formulated and obtained the matrix that Hilbert and Poly predicted will give these undiscovered solutions. He revealed how these solutions are applicable in cryptography, quantum information science and in quantum computers,” it stated. Three of the problems had been solved and the prizes given to the winners. This makes it the fourth to be solved of all the seven problems. Dr Enoch had previously designed a Prototype of a silo for peasant farmers and also discovered a scientific technique for detecting and tracking someone on an evil mission. Enoch has succeeded in inventing methods by which oil pipelines can be protected from vandalism and he is currently working on Mathematical approaches to Climate Change. https://schoolnetwork.io/51/nigerian-scholar-solves-156-year-old-problem-in-maths |

One of the biggest reasons that I write this blog is to help motivate college students to start their own businesses. When 18 year old kids get to college, oftentimes they really have no idea what they are looking for or what their ultimate goals are – and I can relate. The focus is usually going out and meeting new people, and then all the sudden you wake up and your 6 months from graduation with no real plan or idea what to do next. So, the logical next step, which has been the standard for generations, is to go out and get a job. I’m a strong believer that this shouldn’t be the case. College is a time when kids are around some of the most creative people they will ever be around, willing to take risks. Students need to better understand how much potential and opportunity today’s world has created for us – there are so many tools and resources to help people start their own businesses. Too often, creative minds get sucked into the corporate world, and creativity fades quickly. There NEEDS to be more motivation and education in colleges urging kids to get involved in start-ups and use their creativity to build new businesses. Here is a list of some of the most successful businesses that have spawned from college students, right in the dorm room, and grown into massive successful projects. 1. FedEx While at Yale, Phil Knight put together wrote a paper for an undergraduate course, outlining his idea behind starting a logistics company. His thought process was that as the world changes and became more automated, logistics would have to adapt as well. His teacher gave him a C, and thought the idea was outlandish. FedEx profits nearly two billion dollars annually. 2. Napster Shawn Fanning really made a name for himself when he started the first peer-to-peer media sharing company while he was an undergraduate student at Northeastern in 1999. He transformed the music industry indefinitely, temporarily bringing nearly every record label to their knees. When business was good for Napster, they had over 80 million users. Countless businesses were pioneered on the basis that Napster first displayed. 3. Wordpress Two freshmen students, Mike Little and Matt Mullenweg, decided to build an opensource web interface that would allow people with minimal technical skills to easily build websites. Wordpress was started in a University of Houston dorm room, and now millions and millions and millions of websites are built on this platform (including this one!). 4. College Hunks Hauling Junk The business idea was simple – college kids have tons of junk that they need to get rid of at the end of every semester, so lets get some big trucks and haul it out for them. Omar Soliman submitted the businesses plan into a contest and won $10,000. They have expanded the business and now make the bulk of their cash from franchising nationwide. 5. Insomnia Cookies At University of Pennsylvania, Seth Berkowitz knew people late at night craved cookies. He started baking them and sold them around campus late at night. Perfect idea for students studying after hours and in need of a snack. He opened a retail store in New York in 2004. and now has 40 bakeries nationwide. 6. Reddit The Reddit story is complicated and full of big time acquisitions and mergers. The site, which as of June 2014 has about 113.5 million monthly unique visitors, was first started by two University of Virginia students in 2005 (Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohania). The website has become one the major internet hubs for content sharing and interaction. But the simple of idea of bringing together a Yahoo Discussion board type forum into one site spawned right out of college. 7. Facebook I can’t write a blog post about this topic without including Zuckerberg. The social media giant was born in a Harvard dorm so that Mark Zuckerberg could meet girls, and now worth over 65 billion dollars. 8. Nike All college football fans know that University of Oregon has the coolest uniforms, week after week, because Nike’s Founder Phil Knight is an alumni and massive donor to the football program. While in school, Phil Knight decided there had to be a way to utilize outsourcing to build a shoe company that produced more affordable shoes than what was available at the time. In 1965, he started Blue Ribbon Sports with his track coach, and the company later developed into Nike. 9. Tripod Tripod was started in 1992 by two Williams College students, headed by Bo Peabody. It started as a website providing practical advice to first time college students, and then developed into a site allowing people to easily make websites. In 1998, before the dot com bubble burst, the company sold to Lycos for 58 million in stock, which Peabody cashed out after the company’s value went up tenfold. A year after he cashed out, the bubble burst and many dot com companies lost about 99 percent of their value. My point for writing this post is to point out that college should be a time when kids should take advantage of their creativity and freedom. Once people get into the corporate world and start getting accustomed to their 9-5 schedule, they quickly fall into a routine and lose sight of their potential. And it’s really pathetic. What business schools need to preach to their students is innovation and entrepreneurship. There are so many tools available to get started making money online and it is easier to spend money today than every before – you just need to start building up your idea, and the sooner the better. https://schoolnetwork.io/45/9-great-businesses-started-in-college-dorms |
Abuja – The Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has appealed to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), not to renege on its campaign promise of paying N5,000 to 25 million unemployed Nigerians. This is contained in a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the president’s wife on Media, Mrs Adebisi Ajayi, on Tuesday in Abuja. She also urged the party to fulfill its promise of giving school children one free meal a day. She stated this after the Senate voted against the motion calling on the Presidency to pay the N5,000 allowance. “The APC is a party of integrity and has assured Nigerians during the campaign that it will pay N5,000 each month to 25 million most vulnerable citizens. “Nigerians should be patient with the APC government as the change they had been yearning for has come to stay,’’ she said. https://schoolnetwork.io/41/aisha-buhari-urges-fg-pay-n5000-allowance-unemployed

From soccer pitch to red carpet, FIFA World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo, premiered his personal portrait film “Ronaldo” in London on Monday. Ronaldo reunited with his former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson on the red carpet, which also saw a late arrival from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho. Posing with a line of fans, Ronaldo sought to break a selfie record upon arrival and was also awarded certificates for other Guinness World Records he had, including “most ‘liked’ person on Facebook”. “The people who really know me, they are not going to be surprised about the movie,” Ronaldo told Reuters when asked about the film. Asked if after his soccer playing career he might eye a position as head of FIFA or UEFA, the Real Madrid striker said that he would adjust accordingly to the dictates of his future endeavours. “I’m not that smart to be president. I do not worry about that, about what is going to happen in my future.” “I think I’m still able to play a few more years of football, but in future I have other projects, that will be more interesting than being president,” he added. The film, made by the team behind documentaries on racing driver Ayrton Senna and singer Amy Winehouse, looks at his professional side as well as shows tender moments between Ronaldo and his young son. “You have a chance to see the real Cristiano,” Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes said of the film. Ronaldo is also captain of Portugal’s national team, which last month secured its spot for Euro 2016 in France. Asked if he thought he could bring the side to victory, Ronaldo said: “Well, I will try. “I will help the team and I will give my best like always and let’s see what happens.” “But I am looking forward to that.” https://schoolnetwork.io/42/ronaldo-premieres-his-film-in-london
