Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has died, royal officials have announced, weeks after he was admitted to hospital. Abdullah, who had ruled since 2005 and was said to be aged about 90, had been suffering from a lung infection. His 79-year-old half-brother, Salman, has been confirmed as the new king. Within hours of his accession to the throne of the oil-rich kingdom, King Salman vowed to maintain the same policies as his predecessors. "We will continue adhering to the correct policies which Saudi Arabia has followed since its establishment," he said in a speech broadcast on state television. Abdullah had suffered frequent bouts of ill health in recent years, and King Salman had recently taken on the ailing monarch's responsibilities. Prior to announcing Abdullah's death, Saudi television cut to Koranic verses, which often signifies the passing of a senior royal. A statement said Abdullah had died at 01:00 (22:00 GMT Thursday). http://m.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-30945324 |

This wonderful article clears the The unending monologue over whether General Muhammadu Buhari has School Certificate raises a question that is rather tendentious and faulty. The idly-conceived narrative, now spreading like wildfire, is to suggest erroneously that the Nigerian Constitution actually requires a candidate to hold or produce West African School Certificate as minimum educational qualification to contest as President. There is humour in political propaganda, including the present one, to suggest that even if Buhari has a galaxy of stars to his Khaki as a General, it only goes to show that he was a brave General and not necessarily that he is educated. Those who came up with the Buhari-is-illiterate hoax would also want us to believe that the US Army War College was probably referring to a different Muhammadu Buhari who graduated in the Class of 1980 on 9th June of that year as the most distinguished international student. The rumour should be enjoyed for its humour, but do we have to go as far as misrepresenting the law? What if all Buhari has to show are the stars he got as a General, does that mean he is not eligible to contest? That Buhari has not dignified the political mischief with a response probably suggests that he takes this for what it truly is. Nothing short of him pasting his credentials on his forehead as he goes for campaign would douse the rumour. I don’t hold Buhari’s brief. I am not even interested in whether he has the papers or not. My motivation for writing this piece is the aversion for how this tribe of politicians deliberately distorts facts, propagates ignorance and peddles invectives rather than focusing on real issues about how they would rescue a nation in the cesspit of misery. I wonder how this is a political trump card for the same President who had advocated for an issue-based campaign. The most cursory look at the Constitution would reveal to anyone that Buhari is as educationally qualified as President Jonathan with his equally oft-disputed Ph.D. Section 131 (d) of the Constitution provides that a person shall be qualified for election to the office of the President if he has been educated up to at least School Certificate level or its equivalent. Section 318 goes further to say that a “School Certificate or its equivalent means: 1.a Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent, or Grade II Teacher’s Certificate, the City and Guilds Certificate; or 2 .education up to Secondary School Certificate level; or 3.Primary Six School Leaving Certificate or its equivalent and- 4.Service in the public or private sector in the Federation in any capacity acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission for a minimum of ten years, and 5. attendance at courses and training in such institutions as may be acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission for periods totaling up to a minimum of one year, and *.the ability to read, write, understand and communicate in the English language to the satisfaction of the Independent National Electoral Commission, and 6.any other qualification acceptable by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The language of the Constitution is plain and unless Buhari’s scoffers are themselves deficient of the ability to read, write and understand in English Language as provided above, there is no conceivable way anyone can say Buhari is not qualified. Indeed, if Buhari is illiterate and he was, as Head of State, able to reduce the inflation rate from 23% to 5%, keep Naira at N1 to $1.4, unemployment at 6.1%, pay all debts, withstand IMF’s pressure to borrow and devalue Naira and quell Maitatsine (Boko Haram’s predecessor-in-terror), he deserves to be celebrated in the rank of geniuses like Einstein. In contrast, President Jonathan, with his oft-disputed Ph.D, has an uninspiring scorecard of devaluing the Naira, keeping inflation at 8%, Naira-Dollar exchange rate at $1 to N184.50 (as at today), youth unemployment at 80% capped with a grisly record of running a terror-ravaged country and condoning corruption. With knowledge and competence in mind, you would begin to wonder if Nigeria is not better run by a President that has never seen the inside wall of the classroom. From a broad view, this controversy renews interest in the undeserved recognition given to educational papers rather than the functional knowledge that education should bring. Certificate has been conventionally misrepresented as evidence of knowledge and competence. A time there was in this country when we thought that low educational qualification was probably a major factor for inept leadership. If this was ever true, President Jonathan, Ph.D has shown us that this might be, at best, a cultural fallacy. Here we are as a nation, with a President who has a Ph.D, the economy is comatose, excess crude account is virtually empty, external reserve is badly depleted, missing funds here and there, we have only a marginal increase in installed power generation and transmission capacity but with no electricity after over N3trillion spending on power under Jonathan’s administration alone. What is more, our lives are even more insecure despite over N3.1trillion defence spending. Realising that we may have modelled our idea of a President on false criteria, many people are disappointed and are beginning to ask the right questions about Mr. President’s Ph.D – what he did he write his thesis on, who supervised him and who (other than Patience Jonathan) was President Jonathan’s former student? Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying we don’t need highly-educated men in power. I am only suggesting that as between Jonathan and Buhari, our choice of a President must be for higher considerations of competence, functional intellectualism and principled leadership. In the final sense, this controversy about whether Buhari is in possession of his West African School Certificate is futile because the Constitution stipulates no such requirement for anyone to stand election. The propriety of this is a matter for another day. Lastly however, as we are asking Buhari to show papers for his knowledge, we should be asking President Jonathan to show knowledge for his papers. |

One of the hardest things for a many men to express is their feeling for a woman, especially a beautiful woman. This is because the average man fears rejection from a woman more than he would fear a suicide bomber — that’s an exaggeration though. So you could be all friendly with this handsome dude and think he’s not in love with you when he actually is, only held back by the fear that you may say no to his love advances. To make matters worse, some ladies make themselves hard to get with comments that scare him even further when what he needs is just an encouraging look, word or gesture and he will spit out the ‘I LOVE YOU’ line faster than flash. So if you have a male friend, here are the signs to look for to know if he’s madly in love with you: 1. He touches you by mistake every time. One touch is a mistake but many touches mean the dude is magnetically connected to you and wants to hold you. Those small touches on your arm, back shoulder… mean a lot. 2. He introduces you to his friends. When man likes a woman, he wants to show her off to his friends. If this is happening, then you should know he’s more than just a friend. 3. He lets you meet his family. Getting to meet his family is definitely a sign of deep commitment. Even the most randy of guys will not show you off to his family for the fun of it. 4. He acts jealous. Why would a guy be jealous when he’s not interested? Trust me, when a guy goes cranky when he sees you with another dude, then he’s felling competitive. 5. He includes you in his plans or hints it. A guy that tells you of his future plans and somehow ropes you inside it. Or asks you about your plans in line with his, then he’s envisaging a future with you both inside. He might make it like a joke, but its love. 6. He likes to just talk with you. When a guy can sit with you for hours just talking with you, then he’s hooked. A guy with passing interest has no time to talk for that long. So if he talks, he rocks too. 7. He wants to be with you always. Truth be told, guys don’t just spend time with every random girl, repeatedly. If a guy makes excuses to be with you, then he wants to be with you. Those casual meetings, when it’s frequent mean something more. 8. He stares at you. If a guy stares at you for too long, whether or not you’ve just met, then he’s interested. If this continues over a long period, then you should know he’s in love with you. Guys don’t stare unless they’re interested. 9. He asks personal questions. A guy who wants just sex from you or just wants to talk for a while will not bother about intimate questions. But if you are in a casual/platonic relationship with a guy who asks very personal questions, then you should know the guy is in love or on the way. When a man desires a woman deeply he wants to know her deepest secrets, her inspirations and aspirations. 10. He is protective and defensive of you. A guy protects what and who he loves. If you find him going out of his way to defend and protect you in different situations, then he sees you as his responsibility. He’s in love. 11. He seeks and respects your opinion. If your opinion counts in his personal affairs then he’s in love. A man that asks what you think about important decisions and takes your advice wants more of you. If he also compromises for you, then he’s roped. Remember, guys find it very difficult expressing their feelings and you might need to give them a nudge to boost that ego. Do it when you see the above signs and you both will be happier for it. |

When people who are just a little bit rich travel, they fly first class. When you’re really rich, you rent a private jet. When you’re insanely rich, you fly on your very own private jet with your name painted on the wings. When you are a multi-billionaire Saudi Prince, you fly on a mind blowingly lavish $500 million customized Airbus A380. Recently it was revealed that Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, who has a net worth of $18 billion, purchased a $300 million Airbus A380 and is spending an additional $200 million remodeling the plane into a flying palace that makes Airforce One look like a hunk of junk…. Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal is one of the wealthiest people in the Arab world. Thanks to thousands of extremely shrewd investments, the Prince was able to turn a modest fortune into more than $18 billion. Through his investment firm Kingdom Holding, Prince Alwaleed has bought up large stakes in companies like News Corp, Apple, Citigroup, Twitter and more. He owns luxury hotels like The Savoy in London, the Fairmont in San Francisco, the Plaza in New York and the Four Seasons. He owns several yachts, more than 200 cars and three incredible palaces that cover a combined 5 million square feet. When Prince Alwaleed takes delivery of his $500 million Airbus, it will be one of four massive private jets. It will also be the largest and most expensive private plane in the world. The base Airbus A380 costs $300 million and normally fits around 800 passengers. Prince Alwaleed’s Airbus A380 is being completely stripped and remodeled with the following mind blowing luxuries: - One parking space for his Rolls Royce - Concert hall with grand piano, seating for 10 and stage for private entertainment - Marble tiled steam room with spa treatments - A “wellbeing” room complete with flat screen TVs on the walls and floors that shows passengers what they are flying over - Five master bedroom with king sized beds, private bathrooms and showers - 20 smaller private rooms - Private elevator that connects the master bedroom to the tarmac for quick entrances and exits - Boardroom with holographic monitors - A prayer room with computer monitored prayer mats that automatically adjust to face Mecca

Government plans for a private partnership to ensure water supply in the city has many up in arms . Many people in Lagos , Nigeria's largest city, do not have proper access to water. The government says it has a solution in a private sector partnership , but activists are up in arms . They say that this will lead to price hikes and the exclusion of civil society groups. Al Jazeera' s Rawya Rageh reports from Lagos. so disgraceful and embarrassing mega city indeed http://m.aljazeera.com/story/20141229174545323411 |

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari in the meeting he held with passionate volunteers in Lagos on Tuesday, 23 December, spoke with clarity and wit about issues ranking from the economy and stablilising the naira, to politics of issues, to his stewardship at the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF). He also repeated his call for peaceful elections and for citizens to protect their votes. Of particular interest however are his statements on misplaced priorities in the government spending and his government’s success in fighting domestic terrorism, a very important point in history to remember as Nigeria battles the now dreaded Boko Haram sect. As reported by a blogger, Joachim MacEbong, who was at the event: One part of Buhari’s time in the military that has to be spoken about a lot more, is his decisiveness in dealing with enemies of the Nigerian state. He recounted an episode when Chadian troops killed Nigerian soldiers, during the regime of Hissene Habré. This was the despite the fact that Nigeria was giving petroleum products to Chad. “Unfortunately for him, [Habré] those soldiers were under me”, Buhari said, to laughter from the audience. It was one example of his dry humour that would come to the surface a few more times. As for Maitatsine, he describes a problem that kept recurring after the leader of the group was first exiled by the Emir of Kano, then returned and was killed by the police. “I flew into Adamawa as head of state, and that was the last you heard of Maitatsine,” he said. Buhari goes on to explain his role in events like Nigeria’s ‘observer’ status in the OIC, the so-called $2.8 billion ‘missing’ funds during his time at the NNPC, his time at the PTF, the famous 53 suitcases (which was apparently just luggage), and so on. The Petroleum Trust Fund was much like today’s SURE-P. Pump prices were going to be raised, but the Abacha government needed someone the public could trust to manage subsidy savings. Buhari recounted how the first N2 billion of the N53 billion spent by the PTF was in Lagos, on projects like the Iju Waterworks. According to him, 12, 000 kilometres of roads were done by the PTF. As a former military ruler, some are concerned with what Buhari might get up to if he becomes President, and whether his military instincts will take over. He describes his moment of conversion to democracy as when the Soviet Union collapsed without a shot being fired. For someone whose military career went on against the backdrop of 5 coups, one of which he was on the receiving end of, it must have been a Damascene moment for him.

Infertility is a widespread problem and for about one in five infertile couples the problem lies solely in the male partner. An emerging body of research suggests that what you eat has a role to play in sperm count whether they are normally shaped (morphology), and how well they move (motility). In fact, research shows that there are specific fertility foods a man can add to his diet to help increase his odds of conceiving a baby and other foods that can actually impair his fertility. Sperm count is very important because if it is not there, you’ll not be able to father a child. Though the research is still new, one thing is clear: The foods that may pose a threat to male fertility are many of the same dietary culprits behind things such as Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease. Below are some of the foods that may hurt male fertility: Processed meats Eating the wrong kind of meat could compromise your sperm. A 2014 Harvard study showed men who consumed the most processed meat like hamburgers, hot dogs, salami, bologna, bacon, had 23 percent fewer normal sperm than guys who ate it sparingly. In another 2014 study, published in the journal Epidemiology, the same researchers found that eating processed meat was associated with lower sperm count. What you should eat instead: The same researchers found that men who eat lots of fish have, on average, a 51 percent higher sperm count than those who barely eat any. Dark meat fish, like salmon or tuna, white meat fish, such as cod and halibut had a positive effect, too. Full-fat dairy A 2013 Human Reproduction study showed that young guys who eat at least two servings of full-fat dairy, especially cheese and whole milk per day tend to have fewer motile sperm. What you should eat instead: Rather than take the full-fat dairy, switch to the low-fat kind. Men who consume a couple servings of low-fat dairy, especially 1% or 2% milk per day have 33 percent higher sperm counts and more motile sperm than those who eat little or no low-fat dairy, a 2014 study in Fertility and Sterility found. Non-organic produce Men who consumed the most pesticide residues through produce had 64 percent fewer normal sperm and 70 percent fewer motile sperm than guys who took in the least, a study presented at the 2014 American Society for Reproductive Medicine Annual Meeting showed. What you should eat instead : Organic fruits and vegetables is advisable. Alcohol According to a 2012 Brazilian study, drinking alcohol may have a negative impact on sperm concentration and motility. Too much alcohol intake may lead to total-body oxidative stress, which is a key cause of male infertility, the researchers say. What you should drink instead: If you want to constantly sip something besides water, make it pomegranate juice. The purple juice is a rich source of antioxidants, like vitamin C and past research has linked a high intake of antioxidants in men to better semen quality. Though an occasional beer probably won’t do your body any harm. Soda Regularly drinking sugar-sweetened drinks, slightly more than serving per day was linked to poorer sperm motility in a new study. Taking sugary beverages like soda, sports drinks, sweet tea boosts your odds of insulin resistance, which in turn leads to oxidative stress than can damage your sperm, the scientists say. What you should take instead: If you need a shot of sugar, make it the kind found in fruit not soda. http://cisselodge.com/2014/12/foods-can- prevent-children.html |
