PoliticsJonathan Not Interested In Stopping Boko Haram:sani by jimmayoy(op): 5:45am On Mar 25, 2015
Civil rights activist and a senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, Mallam Shehu Sani, has said the President Goodluck Jonathan administration has never been interested in ending the Boko Haram insurgency.
He said the President frustrated efforts to end the insurgency.
Sani, who spoke at a sensitisation workshop organised by the Buhari/Osinbajo Youths Support Groups and the Proud Talakawa Movement (PTM), said when effort was being made to end the insurgency, it became clear that the Jonathan administration was an obstacle to it.
He alleged that the country had witnessed looting of public treasury and killings of innocent citizens since the Jonathan administration came into office.
Sani said: “For the last 16 years, it has been a case of waste, of corruption, of mass murder of innocent citizens by the ineptitude and incompetence of the ruling party.
“From the sidelines, as a citizen, I did my best to see how we could bring an end to the Boko Haram insurgency. That informed my decision, in September 2011, to go to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to join in the struggle to end Boko Haram insurgency.
“We have all done our best. But it is very clear that the obstacle to end this insurgency is Jonathan’s government. It had reached a point where I told the Boko Haram people to stop calling my phone because we were completely frustrated. There was no interest on the side of the government to end the insurgency.
“We all have a stake in democratic government. We have done all these because we believe that Nigeria can be great again. I don’t have to stand here and sing the praises of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari because he lives in Kaduna like me. So we leave those praises.
“But we know his potentialities and what he is capable of doing for Nigeria. But we should also know that he is not an Abraham Lincoln who will be contesting election every day. We have to do all we can on March 28. We have made that very clear in Kaduna, to the sitting Vice-President that the 3.1million registered voters in Kaduna are prepared to be killed.
“The Jonathan administration is an affliction. It is a curse on Nigeria. They have looted over $45billion in the last six years he served as a President. Over 65,000 Nigerians have been killed. We have seen how a government openly supported terrorism. They keep giving oil pipeline contracts to the Tompolos, the Asari Dokubos, the Gani Adams and so on”.
He asked the electorate to be vigilant and ensure that their votes count.
Prof. Babalola Borisade, who represented former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, asked the participants to do all they can to protect the change that is coming, adding that the fact that the ruling party has been doing everything possible to prevent the election from holding is an admittance of failure.

Hmm! So this ab.oki want to cancel Onitsha second Niger bridge the same way he canceled Lagos metro train? You want to build toll-free bridge for us..why didn't you build it in 1985? Forget that side because GEJ is already building it for us and we are very confident in him delivering the project toll free or not.

You want to make Onitsha Port to work..why didn't you do that in 1985? Forget that side too because GEJ is equally doing it already, he has completed a world class port in Onitsha and it is undergoing concession as we speak..

GEJ till 2019
What is the guarantee that Jonathan will complete that project, less than ten percent of the total fund for that project is what's available as we speak,i believe that project is an election propaganda project that will be abandoned after election.
PoliticsRe: I’ll Make Naira Equal In Value To Dollar, Says Buhari by jimmayoy: 11:47pm On Mar 23, 2015
lastpage:
I would have loved to do a detailed analysis of your post but its late in the night for me, but l will summarize.

Dont know how old you are but l can tell you that l was old enough to handle a Dollar, when the Naira was EQUAL to the Dollar..... and our reserve was not anywhere a TRILLION, not even a Billion Dollars, back then.
Check the exchange rate in the early 70's and confirm my point.
Back then, Nigeria was exporting a lot of Cocoa, ground nut, Palm Oil, Rubber, e.t.c

It was done then, it can be done now... Period!

2.) To say a very strong naira is not good for Nigeria, to justify the worse-than-Zimbabwean "Naira' we are spending today, is not doing "full justice" to economics!
I wont go on a long analysis of Dangote or Ibekwe but let us just "invert" your statement and see how it pans out.

Can we say "A very strong Dollar is NOT GOOD for America"?.....
.....and despite at almost #240 => Dollar, has it stopped Nigerians from importing from America (most of our imported cars are from there, just to mention one item) or scrambling to buy the Dollar?
More importantly, has it STOPPED America from exporting its products all over the world, especially to Nigeria?
Answer is obviously NO!

Finally, as educated people, we must refrain from espousing what l will call "half knowledge", deliberately or otherwise, especially when doling out "economic precepts". Our analysis has to be "balanced" and reflected on all possibilities.

Let me make bold to say that what YOU THINK may be LOST from a "strong local currency" can be, .....and IS actually NEGATED by the following:

a.) Superior Products (which are always in demand, irrespective of higher prices)

b) Reputation (E.g, America has a "reputation" for "full options" vehicles thus, despite the additional cost, people will rather inport an "American Spec", than one from japan or Europe.

c.) Strong Local Market (Countries with Big population which has "HIGH PURCHASING POWER" can still take advantage of their strong currencies without much negative effect as MOST products from their Factories get consumed locally)

4.) Selective Production (This is similar to (a) above but here, emphasis is on producing goods that are either termed "luxury" or very 'high-tech" and or "uncommon" e.h high class armaments, expensive cars that gets Russians buying , e.t.c.

Bottom line: A Strong currency is NOT a disadvantage to a nation or its export (as you asserted) ...... if you have the right people managing the "MIX" of Economic policies!

I understand that such economic "management" is beyond a "I know Nothing" President or his thieving cohorts, more so in a Nigeria where the leaders stiLl dont recognize the fact that calling you "economic giant of Africa or ranking you #1 on some utopian index" MEANS NADDA, IF YOU CANT EVEN POWER YOUR HOMES OR FACTORIES FOR AT LEAST 12HRS IN A DAY! undecided undecided

We have been trying to do two things since the days of Shagari, without success!

1) Convince foreign INVESTORS that Nigeria is 'the country' to invest. Except for a few "crooked" investors who themselves are only here to scam our system, with the collusion of their local crooks, l have not seen any serious investors in Nigeria, for decades! Some are doing what is called "window-dressing", being around "on paper" .... just in-case something crops up undecided undecided

2.) Export Promotion by keeping a weak currency: This one is a no-brainer! What do we really produce in this country, that is "competitively" worth exporting, ..............using Generator and Diesel as the source of industrial power?

Please, our leaders should stop scamming the populace!
It will not happen, not with Buhari, certainly never with GEJ......unless power becomes at least 80% stable.

Lastpage!
Why are you contradicting urself?BUHARI is on point, take it to anywhere i ll meet you there, telling us that a country like ours that imports virtually everything still needs a weak currency, guy try harder, japan can afford that, china can afford that,a weaker currency is to their advantage,Nigeria of today needs a very strong currency.our leaders devalue our currency cuz imf gives them this condition whenever they run to borrow, not because of any economic plan or advantage.our present Government is a sell out, they don't care about us.

Baba is on point.

Omooba77:
Even Japan,China can not achieve this
Mr know it all,Japan and China cannot do this cuz it favors their economy,as a country that exports a lot,the weaker their currency the richer their citizens but in Nigeria's case that imports virtually everything, the weaker our currency the poorer the citizens.
BUHARI is on point, tackle corruption, money laundering and stop importation of petroleum products by building more refineries, then peg our Naira at one naira to a dollar and watch it remain there for life.why do you think libya's currency remained steady at 1 LYD to 1 USD under Gadaffi, even today the 23rd of march 2015 its 1 USD to 1.3 LYD in Libya.
Even here in Nigeria,Prof soludo during his time stabilized our Naira against the Dollar for good three months, then corruption, money laundering and petroleum importation that weakens our currency was still going on under president Obasanjo, and he(soludo) told us then that he can revert the dollar to equivalent one naira and that he will sustain it.the national assembly then kicked against it.
once again,Alobam GMB is on point.

Change is here.BUHARI is the change.

PoliticsJonathan Deserves Praise For Giving OPC Contract –gani Adams by jimmayoy(op): 8:23pm On Mar 23, 2015
The National Coordinator of a Yoruba group, Odua Peoples Congress, Gani Adams, says President Goodluck Jonathan deserves praise from members of the All Progressives Congress for approving a contract for the OPC to protect pipelines across the South-West.
Adams said the contract would provide at least 5,000 jobs for his boys and 10,000 jobs for other youths in the South-West.
He said this while reacting to the allegation by the APC that Jonathan bribed ethnic militias with N9bn to scuttle the elections.
Adams, who came under fire for leading thousands of youths to protest against the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, in Lagos last Monday, said supporting Jonathan was in the interest of the Yoruba nation.
He said the APC should be commending Jonathan for approving contracts for the OPC because only the Niger-Delta militants were benefitting from the oil money before now.
He said, “The allegation is that the Federal Government gave us a contract: Pipeline security. What is the security of pipeline to the OPC? We have been running this organisation without getting a dime from any government but most of the security agencies saddled with the responsibility of protecting the pipelines have failed; people were dying every day.
“Nigeria was losing more than N3bn everyday to the activities of the vandals and the agitation of that contract started from Dr. Fredrick Fasehun one and a half years ago and you know the bureaucracy of Nigerian ministries. It was a long process and it was just granted and it will empower nothing less than 5,000 youths from my side.
“Altogether, that is about 15,000 jobs for Yoruba land. Will you deny Yoruba youths the opportunity of getting 15,000 jobs because of politics?”
Adams said the APC was only being hypocritical because most of its leaders had oil licences. He said the major reason they were against Jonathan was because their licences were due to expire in September and they feared he would not renew the contracts.

PoliticsConfab Report: Jonathan Playing With Yoruba's Intelligence - Yerima by jimmayoy(op): 4:56pm On Mar 22, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan is toying with the intelligence of Yoruba people by saying he would implement National Conference report if re-elected, a former of the House of Representatives Dr Haruna Yerima has said.
Yerima, who served on the Devolution of Power committee of the National Conference said even if Jonathan implemented the entire report, it won't stop corruption, address inequality or spurs development.
He said it is insulting to the Yoruba people for Jonathan to say he will implement the conference report, asking "Is Jonathan going to remove immunity clause as recommended by the conference? No. What is there in the report that he is using now to cajole the South west people into voting for him?"
The former lawmaker said ‎the report neither addressed corruption nor inequality in the country, adding that it won't spur the needed development in the country.
He explained that "the report didn't give the South west people their age long desire of 'true federalism.' In fact, nobody talked about it at the conference. It also didn't give them the parliamentary system as well as the regional system of government they requested during the conference. So, what is there for them?"

PoliticsN’assembly Slashes Own Budget By 25% by jimmayoy(op): 5:59am On Mar 06, 2015
The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said on Thursday that the National Assembly has reduced its overhead in the 2015 budget by 25 percent in response to the economic realities in the country.
Ekweremadu said the action would also help to boost the capital expenditure quotient in the 2015 fiscal year.
He said, “This year, because our money is on first line charge and comes as statutory transfer, the executive could not have tampered with it. They brought our overhead the way it should be in the 2015 Appropriation Bill.
“But on our own, we in the National Assembly looked at the state of the economy and decided to cut our overhead cost by 25 percent. We challenged the executive to go back and do the same.
“They accepted the challenge and cut further their overhead budget. So, we are hoping that Nigerians would see a remarkable improvement in the capital-overhead ratio in the 2015 budget.”
The deputy senate president stated this in Abuja at the opening of a two-day workshop organised by the State Accountability and Voice Initiative and the United Kingdom Department for International Development for Speakers and Clerks to the 36 State Assemblies.
The workshop centred on the implications of financial autonomy for state Houses of Assembly and strategies for its effective implementation.
Ekweremadu described the creation of a first line charge for the state Houses of Assembly as “one of the biggest achievements of the current constitutional amendment efforts in the pursuit of good governance, accountability, and fiscal federalism in Nigeria.”
He said, “With a first line charge on the Consolidated Revenue Fund, the state legislatures have become fully self-regulating, self-budgeting, self-reliant and wholly-autonomous from executive control.
“In other words, we have effectively averted a situation where he who pays the piper dictates the tune.
“We have carefully enthroned the equality of all arms of government and done away with a situation where state legislatures go cap in hand to the executive arm.”

PoliticsSurrender Or Face Death, Chadian President Warns Shekau by jimmayoy(op): 5:46am On Mar 05, 2015
President Idriss Deby of Chad on Wednesday called on Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, to surrender or face death.
Derby told a news conference in N’djamena, that he knows the whereabouts of Shekau, who, according to him, was sighted in Dikwa , a village in Borno State two days ago.
“Abubakar Shekau must surrender. We know where he is. If he doesn’t give himself up he will suffer the same fate as his compatriots,” he said.
“He (Shekau) was in Dikwa two days ago. He managed to get away but we know where he is. It’s in his interests to surrender,” Deby added.
Chadian troops earlier this week liberated the village which is about 85 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital from Boko Haram.
During a battle for the village, the Chadian soldiers killed over 100 Boko Haram insurgents.
The insurgents were said to have fled to a huge building where they were found inside wardrobes by the troops, who fired volleys of bullets at them.
But in an apparent last act of defiance, a suicide bomber among the fighters climbed into a truck carrying gas canisters and blew it up, killing a Chadian soldier and injuring 34.
A Chadian soldier told a Reuters reporter visiting the town after fighting subsided, that the building was Boko Haram’s command centre.
“They came to hide here as we advanced,” the soldier said, pointing to the bodies in the wardrobes.
The Chadian army spokesman, Col. Azem Bermandoa, who confirmed the killings, said his men chased those who escaped about 15 kilometres out of the town, where many walls were sprayed with bullets and most houses lay deserted.
According to the report, the Nigerian military had listed Dikwa as one of the towns it wanted to liberate from the insurgents before the general elections.
Chadian forces had planned to take the town last month, but were ordered back by the Nigeria military , which said it planned to attack it.
But a Chadian soldier in Dikwa claimed that the closest Nigerian soldiers got to the town as of the time of the latest development was 50 kilometres.
Abandoned bombs cause stir in Adamawa town
There is apprehension in Gombi, Adamawa State over 30 bombs said to have been dumped in the area by the men of the Nigerian Air Force.
It was gathered that the bombs were dumped three days ago because they had expired and therefore inactive.
Soldiers deployed in the area and vigilante members were said to have surrounded the area out of fear that the weapons could fall into the hands of insurgents.
One of the soldiers however said that they later pulled out of the area when they were alerted that the bombs were inactive.
But an indigene of the community told one of our correspondents that they were not convinced that the bombs would not go off.
He said, “As we are talking, we are still agitated because we are not convinced by the explanation that the bombs are useless and would not be taken away by the Boko Haram for other missions.
“When the items were discovered, the soldiers and our vigilante members were called in but the soldiers left when the Air Force explained that the bombs were expired and useless.
“But the vigilante members have refused to relax their watch over the area because they feel the Boko Haram people could steal and use them against us. We are also of the opinion that the bombs could go off.”
The Director, Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, could not be reached for comment as calls to his mobile line did not connect.
Meanwhile, only Monguno out of the several communities liberated from Boko Haram over a week remains accessible.
Most of the towns largely remain “a no go area” as the military keep watch over them even as residents that fled in the wake of their capture are still afraid to return.
The Chairman of Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State, Ali Galgal, paid a visit to Monguno on Sunday.
It was gathered that Galgal was in the town to assess the level of destruction that took place during the short reign of the Boko Haram insurgents.
One of those that visited the area with the chairman but who pleaded that his name should not be in print, told one of our correspondents in Maiduguri that “the chairman presented food items to rescued persons.”
He added, “Alhaji Galgal urged them to consider what happened to them as part of destiny. He asked them to pray for a lasting peace in Borno State and the country in general.
“The chairman, who went from street to street in Monguno town, found decomposed bodies scattered everywhere. He also found dead bodies in some houses and government structures.
“It was also discovered that the insurgents successful looted many houses and business centres.

PoliticsNigeria Stalls Onslaught Against B/haram – Chad by jimmayoy(op): 2:02pm On Mar 04, 2015
Nigeria had refused to let Chadian troops continue with their campaign to recapture territories controlled by Boko Haram, Reuters reported yesterday.
In a span of six weeks the Chadian troops had been able to recapture Malam Fatori and Damasak on the border with Niger Republic and Gamboru and Ngala on the Cameroonian border.
They also sacked the insurgents from the ancient town of Dikwa, bringing them within 45 kilometres of Bama, Borno state’s second largest town.
But diplomats told Reuters it would be an embarrassment to President Goodluck Jonathan who is seeking re-election, for a smaller nation to tackle Nigeria’s security problems.
Reuters said in their forward base in the town of Gamboru on the Nigeria-Cameroon border, Chadian soldiers displayed dozens of guns seized from Boko Haram and a burnt-out armoured vehicle painted with black and white Arabic script.
“We turned back because Nigeria did not authorise us to go any further,” army spokesman Colonel Azem Bermandoa said.
However, Defence Spokesman Major General Chris Olukolade did not respond to Daily Trust inquiries on the issue at the time of filing this report.
Nigeria’s spokesman for operations in the northeast, Mike Omeri, said cooperation between Chadian and Nigerian forces had brought some major military adding that successes and any issues would be resolved via existing command structures.
But the Chadians say there have been no joint operations between the two forces. Chad’s offer to join a Nigerian offensive to capture Baga, site of one of Boko Haram’s worst atrocities in January, was rebuffed, Bermandoa said.
Officials from Chad, Niger and Cameroon say lack of cooperation from Nigeria has for months hampered efforts to put together a regional taskforce against Boko Haram.
Chad was compelled to take unilateral action in January, under a deal that allows it to pursue terrorists into Nigeria, after Boko Haram violence started to choke off imports to its economy.
With Niger and Cameroon deploying thousands of troops on their borders, blocking escape routes for Boko Haram, the tide may be turning.
Francois Conradie, analyst with South African-based NKC Research, told Reuters that if the current offensive could be sustained, Boko Haram could quickly be driven out of the remaining towns it holds.
He warned that the sect would, however, remain a deadly rural guerrilla force.
