spyder880: It is called "partition" not dimension. A partition is usually 12ft of wall space. I pay N1500 per partition and pay N2000 for each partition if he will pay his server after the day. I have a plastering budget of N450,000 for this duplex on this thread, (all materials and labour, up and down plus pararet plastering.)I am still asking my Oga to upgrade the amount for us.any pictures for us?@ Oga Spyder thanks a lot, atleast, today i have learnt that its called partition not dimension; not bad for someone who knew absolutely NOTHING about building before i met Oga spyder, so once again thanks. I think i have to try and bargain the price of per partition with him to see if he can bring it down a little bit because if Spyder is paying 1500, the 2000 i am being quoted is a bit on the high side, i will definately try and bring it down a little bit. As for the server which is 2000 daily its kind of ok if he actually completes 7 partition per day which means the server effectively gets 2000/7 = 285.71 per partition... seems okay to me. I am a bit busy this weekend but i will try and upload some pictures next week. Have a gra8 weekend everyone! |
mufutau55: Forgot to tell you that the "Carpenter's Labor Pay of 90,000 Naira" is for both Wood (Nogging) and the Aluminum work.@ Mufutau55, just concluding the roofing of my MQ, hopefully today latest early next week, a little rain delayed us but need to cover the wood ASAP to avoid rain damaging the wood. I needed to ask you a question regarding plastering as thats my next stage, i know there are different ways of costing it and i think spyder outlined something about this on some thread. i wanted to know how you costed yours and what the cost was of plastering both inside and outside. i have been given the following quote and i need the house to advice accordingly if its relatively okay. We are going with costing by dimension so they guy counted and said the MQ has 33 dimension both inside and outside and cost per dimension is 2,000 33 dimension- 2000x 33 =66,000 helper 2,000 daily X 5 days= 10,000- the workman estimate that he can do 7 dimensions per day so finishing the entire work in 4.71 days so approximately 5 days really- bringing the helper cost to 2,000 x 5 days = 10,000 20 bags of cements at 1750 each = 35000 1 mud sand at 13000 sharp sand dont know the cost well my credit finished as i was talking to my manager lol but these are the main cost roughly. So what do you think, Spyder also cast your sharp eye on these estimate too please. Thanks |
How's going chief Spyder and the entire NL folks especially those inventing and sharing great ideas to move like minds forward. The above quote was kind of your exact word when we spoke two days ago. Sorry I called almost at the end of my visit! Was in naija for 5 whole weeks but didn't even accomplish half of what I planned to take care of. All the same, God is good and glad to be back. I will touch base with you sometime next week when am fully situated. Oga femmmmmy, I saw a mail or iv to some site or so from you but was unable to open it in naija and I have no idea what happen to the mail cux I don't recall deleting it! Any way, am at your service if need be! Hope the family are doing good? @jites and co, hope your projects are coming up good!
@ Prince_onx, its nice to have you back, how was naija na? hope things are looking up. By the grace of GOD sha. My project is comming along fine, thanks. slowly but surely. we hope to roof it this week by the grace of God. Once again welcome back x |
mufutau55: Yeah! I like the term Spyder880 used for the Quarters (MENS QUARTER). My MQ may be bigger than yours, not sure.@ Hajji, Yeah it helped and yes i think your MQ is way bigger than mine. Thanks for sharing it will serve as a guide line. |
Hi Hajji, Wow, i am very impressed with your MQ, the roof is very beautiful and well done. What was the cost of the alluminim and workmanship? i am being quoted between 230k -260k including workmanship. the MQ contain Living room, bedroom seperate room/storeroom varander, kitchen seperate toilet seperate bathroom. Yes those are slab for the sockaway and the consultant advised that we raised the sockaway a little bit. The sockaway will be just for the MQ- Spyder you have to patent this "MQ" TERM O cos na you be the first to use it. |
Finally, wood work completed and bythe grace of God we should complete the roofing next week with 0.45 long span aluminium.

mufutau55: @Spyder880 and JitesHi Hajji A little pictorial update of my "Mens Quarter" the builders had some cement and gravel left over so they decided to add some little piller design at the entrance.. Mens quarter for you lol.

Some job agencies only cater for blue collar jobs, which is fair enough if thats their niche but i do think we need something like a JOB CENTRE. i dont know what its called in other developed country but in the UK its called JOB CENTRE, you go there ( its in every borough in the country) so there is no stuff like there is one in ikeja or one in lagos kind of talk. You walk in there are PODs like mini touch screen where you are able to see all the vacancies in the country from accountancy to window cleaners, all these organisation upload their vacancies there on a daily basis. But mind you we still have unemployment in the UK but if you know anything about economics you would know that no countrycan can full employment but lets not go there yet. But yes i think it will be a great idea in Nigeria, we have the money to do it, and as for who you know syndrome lets not kid ourselves it does exit but that does not mean you dont get jobs by merit also. I come from Delta state, and when these oil company come to our land to explore for oil and set up the vacancies, some of them are allocated to Chiefs, ovie and elders ie if you are a Chief you are allocated 10 spaces, the ovie perhaps 50 spaces and they give these spaces to friends and families, Now i know this cos my granpa is a chief but saying this these spaces are usually for menial jobs cos you can not employ say a petrol chemical engineer with this sort of allocation of spaces. Anyway i have written too much i dont like reading lenghty post my self. GOD BLESS NIGERIA |
spyder880: Let me not talk too much about the quantities as I did not measure this house to see what the quantities should be like, but the unit prices seems high to me, especially in Delta state where we have more wood than Enugu.Oga Spyder, thanks for your quick response, i have relooked at the figure and the N40,000 for the tie rod was a typo on my part the actual cost is N4,000 I have registered my disapproval about the quantity and the unit price, but my man will go to the saw mill himself and see for himself how much these wood cost from various sawmill so he can compare the prices. The carpenter who measured the building is the one who quoted the quatity but we will monitor it closely because i dont want to over buy. Thanks again Oga spyder, you promised to help me while i am embarking on this project and so far you have kept to your word. May God continue to bless you and you family IJN |
Hi Oga Spyder, hows is the family and business hope all is well. Happy Easter to you. Was womdering if the BQ is roofed yet so i can compare prices. i received this quote for the wood work.. what do you think is it reasonable wall plate 4x5 - 8pcs x N1500 = N12,000 2X4 - 65pcs x N800 = N52000 2x3 - 55pcs x N650 = N35,750 2x2- 85pcs x N300 = N25,500 half bag of 3 inches nails = N2,750 half bag of 4 inches nails = N2,750 20 tigh rod N200 x 20 = N40,000 carpenter workmanship = N50,000 on his own N30,000 but with helpers N50,000 Total cost N184,750 Wood to be used is DANTA |
Fhemmmy: The best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up.Bros Fhemmmy, i am liking all this your quotes oh, hope you dont mind if i repost them on my FB page with a little bit of twiking, cos i think you can put an end to a nightmare by just waking up but it takes more than waking up to make your dreams come true.- You need to work at it, put plans to action like great nairalanders are doing people like Baba Fhemmmy, Prof Spyder, Brabus, Prince_onx etc |
spyder880: Solignum sells for N2500 per tin and 2 tins will be enough to treat the wood for the size of your BQ.@ Spyder Thanks a lot, very helpful as always. |
@ Spyder and others. What is the cost of soligum presently and how many would be needed to treat a 2 bedroom BQ roofing wood. thanks |
mufutau55: Yes. I was refering to the BQ. Do you have the finished photo of this BQ when it was completed and roofed with the poultry?I think you are refering to Spyder's BQ, its not the BQ with a poultry and a bungalow. which is the one posted above up to lintel level |
mufutau55: Yes. The one being discussed above in this thread, that has some empty space on the side..Hi, if its the BQ or MQ above you are refering to, then the empty space is reserved for building a bungalow and a poultry. |

a little pictorial progress report on my men's quarter
|
ussyman: I have followed dis thread with keen interest and I must say I hv gained alot so far! However, i would like to contribute my little experience, which I know might go a long way.Weldone and thanks for making this thread come alive again. It will really be nice to have some pictures uploaded if you can as its been a long while since we saw any pictures. |
Oga spyder if you remember at the begining i started by moulding blocks enough to take the building to roofing level, so now that the german floor is sorted we would concentrate on setting the blocks now to roof level, they just put small one say 4 layers abi na coaches however term the builders use, you know wetin i mean lol, make i go do some overtime for work and get some more fund in and then they will start more layers, when they reach roof level i will update the house again, then i will rest small wait for some fund by the grace of God and then roof.. by his grace
|
starting german floor and also we moulded some block for the sock away so we can lay the sock away block just incase rain falls so the already dug sock away does not cave in.
|
Watering of the filling, this was easy for us, no need to buy water as we dug a bore hole from the onset, so just bought a hose pipe and used water from the borehole to water the whole filling.

Filling with laterite

Oga Spyder, my little BQ project is comming on fine and i shall post some progress pic soon for my teachers to see and comment, i think i probably should stop calling it BQ now sef, it has 3 rooms, which are a step down sitting room, a bedroom and a storeroom a kitchen, a separate toilet and separate bathroom |
Weldone o Oga spyder, small small by small small you don build your own palace o. |
N35 is a bargain per block! And remember even half blocks are counted as one (N35 too). I was quoted N40 per block for mine but who really has time to count full and half blocks? I ended up negotiating the project stage by stage! You might wanna consider doing that. Cheers!
@ Prince, its reassuring to get some kind of comparism. Yeah i was told half block also count as one even a quarter block. When i calculated how much it will take to get the building to roofing level based on the number of block that will b e needed in total it seems quite cheap to me but that not withstanding ii will see if i can still drive a bargain with the builder. Thanks a lot Prince, |
@ spyder888, Oga spyder, i no hear from you with regards to the question i posted above, i know say you head is doing overtime right now with your new idea/ project but no forget us o, i still need your help big time o. I am loyal good evening |
