It’s your charging style. Plug your phone at 20% and unplug it at 80%. Basically, don’t let it die before you charge and dont charge all the way to 100%.
Here’s mine, I’ve been able to maintain this number for a long time.
Flytime: first thing first even the redmi heats up, it may not just be as much It could play heavy games comfortably on medium graphics with minimal heat although it depends on how heavy the game his but games like real racing, pubg pes and the likes would play well with minimal heat He should get a nice case that'll take some of the heat off the device
About the iOS 14 part, what's up with that?
Older iOS devices on iOS 14(6s, 6s+, 7, 7+, 8 ) are known to drain high amounts of battery/ have poor battery life so it would be better to leave it at iOS 13. Only 8+, X, XR, Xs, Xs max to 12 pro max wont drain battery on iOs 14.

As a former user of both phones, iPhone 6s plus 64gb and Redmi Note 9 Pro 6/128gb( I know this is not Redmi Note 9)
My advice is
If you are a gamer and you want a little more freedom, like downloading hacked apps, games n stuffs, go for the Redmi Note 9
If you are a casual user that spend time on social media and light games only like temple run etc, then go for the 6splus cos the phone will heat up whenever you throw heavy games at it and you don’t use a cooling fan with it.
If you want to enjoy your 6splus, make sure it’s on ios 13 and not on ios 14 and make sure the phone is 64gb and above.
Both phones camera are good but Redmi Note 9 has some extra features and also charges fast so the choice is yours.

Xiaomi phones are very good and known for their high performance, RAM, Internal Storage and batteries. Being one of the most popular phone brands in the world, There are various software engineers on xda and so on so if you want to tweak your phones or having some software issues which I doubt you’ll be having then its very easy to fix. The phones are also very durable, the Redmi note 8 and 9 series’s and most others uses gorilla glass 5 on the front and back which is very durable. Also I like to buy a case and screen protector with my phones whether the its very durable or not and I suggest you do the same.
