You lied in your first sentence. Nigeria will NEVER be good let alone better.

Any body washing toilet abroad as you stated in your last sentence lives a better than the regional manager of Zenith bank. I lie not.
If you find yourself in Australia and you're not lazy, you will be fine. The problem is to come in.

I came into Australia last December (2 months ago) at the age of 48. Many discouraged me from moving. By the way, I was a fellow of the institute of chartered accountants of Nigeria earning N1.05M net salary a month.

Leaving Nigeria was one of the best decisions I ever made in my entire life. When I got here, I started with warehouse job packing items in cartons.

In January 2024, I obtained a forklift driving license (counterbalance forklift) in New South Wales. This authorizes me to work anywhere in Australia as a forklift driver.

In the same January (last month), I took some courses and obtained First aid certificate + CPR, Diploma in mental health(online); working with the aged and disability support, all four NDIS certifications, etc. I want to break into support worker role.

I am also applying for accounting work.

To enjoy abroad as a man over 40, make sure you come with your wife.

I will make a post of my experience so far in Australia, why you should or shouldn't come to Australia after 48, and many other issues you might consider.

It is not going to be an eye witness account, it is not going to be a hear say, it is my experience.

Hi usefulsense, please can I send a DM? I would like to ask some questions regarding your travel process
Business / Re: Gtbank Vs Innoson: Kill The Tribal Sentiment!!! by Jk210(f): 12:31pm On Dec 21, 2017
themomentng:
By Emeka Nwachukwu
This morning, I feel the need to let out my voice and speak on this raging issue; I apoligize in advance to those who might feel offended but I sincerely feel a need to speak on this and educate people.
It’s on this issue of GTBank and Innosson.
Suddenly the matter has taken a curve and suddenly its being cited as another “attack” against the Igbos. Suddenly there is a war cry: All Igbos must close their GTB accounts and move them to Igbo banks.
Suddenly, with the lapse of the last “Biafra” episode, another opportunity has been presented for another macabre dance.
I don’t know Innosson. Neither do I have any relationship with GTBank. I read through what reportedly transpired and without prejudice, GTBank might have appeared to have acted inappropriately like ALL our banks do.
On the other hand, GTBank has alleged that Innosson presented false import papers etc. I can see a transaction that went awry, but no tribal targeting; it was basically business.
And at any rate, to those chanting the tribal song, even if we were to agree with you for an insane moment, where were you when GTBank, a “Yoruba” bank loaned that large amount to Innosson? Why didn’t he get the money from supposedly “Igbo” banks?
How come our Igbo brothers who are bank CEO’s didn’t grant him the same loan or more to support a brother, an Ndigbo?
When the relationship was good, no one sang any tribal song!
I recall the noisy case of GTBank and the late Arisekola. Given Arisekola’s prominence, shouldn’t we have said it was an attack against the Yorubas by the same GTBank? By now it must be clear that the owners of GTBank are natives of Mars and not Nigeria, they’re a financial institution and not king makers !!!
Truth is there is nothing tribalistic about this matter. I see a bank that wants its money back at all cost especially at a time that the economy is poor.
I see a bank that’s supportive to any and every entrepreneur but also wants to make money and grow its brand.
These things did not happen because the owner of Innosson is Igbo. People forget that GTBank has many major Igbo shareholders.
I call on men and women of goodwill. Nigerians from the East, West, North and South. Let’s join forces and rally against this nonsense which sadly is being sponsored by supposedly educated people. Let’s blame GTBank if they have behaved inappropriately. Let Innosson continue to approach the Law for relief.
If you quit GTBank today and migrate to another bank, how sure are you those banks won’t mess you up tomorrow?
Stop The Ethnic Crusade, Kill Sentiments!!!

I think this is the gist that people are not getting and is the biggest drawback to us as a nation.

This should never be about Hausa vs Igbo or Igbo vs Yoruba. It should strictly be about a business deal gone wrong and the culprit brought to book whether GTBank or Innoson himself.

But no, ethnic warlords latch on and turn it into a tribal issue. Just shows we have a long way to go as a nation
Business / Innoson EFCC Arrest & The GTB Loan: "Innoson Stop Playing The Igbo Tribe Card" by Jk210(f): 4:52pm On Dec 20, 2017
Since the Innoson and Gtbank brouhaha broke out, I've been curious about the Bank's position especially as they have been silent.

Could this be because they were truly guilty of wrong doing or, is the Bank being blackmailed by Innoson- you know guerilla tactics? I mean why the whole social media campaign on a matter that is strictly a legal issue? Is there something more than meets the eye? Anyway, read the premium times article below and share your thoughts

Innoson, Efcc and the Gtb Loan; Facts behind the saga

Recently, the Innoson/GTBank story has gained so much media prominence, especially following the arrest of the Innonson chairman a few days ago by EFCC. Though the case is pending in court, Innoson has taken the battle to social media. There have been numerous sponsored social media campaigns against the Bank such as #BewareOfGTBank and #WhatIsWrongWithGTBank. The company has also gone Television, with its owner, Dr Innocent Chukwuma granting an interview to TVC, where he claimed he had obtained a judgement of N8bn against the bank. He added that the bank pleaded with him over their inability to pay, and that he graciously offered to accept shares of the bank as payment.

GTBank on their part has chosen to remain silent on the matter, perhaps trusting in the integrity of the legal system as against playing to the gallery. Many attempts by us to get the bank’s representatives to comment on the story has proven abortive. A staff of the bank who spoke under anonymity, stated “Irrespective of the issues we are facing with the company, Innoson remains a customer of the bank and we owe him a duty of confidentiality and to conduct ourselves in a responsible manner towards him”. This statement didn’t stop us from conducting our own investigations on the matter, and below are our findings, put in bullet points for your optimum understanding.

The obvious:

Innoson is, and still remains, a customer of GTBank.

What we discovered:
1. GTBank (in 2009) granted Innoson several credit facilities (i.e loans) totalling N2,400,000,000,00 (two billion, four hundred million Naira only), to part finance working capital requirements, import new motorcycles and motorcycle spare parts, agricultural spare parts and plastic manufacturing equipment (“Imported Goods”).

2. Under the loan terms agreed by Dr. Innocent Chukwuma on behalf of Innoson, proprietary interest in the Imported Goods was consigned exclusively in favour of the Bank. This means that the Bank was the exclusive owner of the Imported Goods. Accordingly, the original shipping documents (i.e. the Bills of Lading) were in the custody of the Bank, and have remained in the custody of the Bank at all times.

3. Because GTBank was the exclusive owner of the imported goods, ownership of the goods could only be transferred to Innoson (or any other third party) by the Bank. The condition in the agreement between the Bank and Innoson, for the release of the Imported Goods by the Bank to Innoson, was the payment of 25% of the value of each Letter of Credit transaction by Innoson.

What we learnt:
1. Innocent Chukwuma approached the Bank, on behalf of Innoson, requesting the release of the shipping documents without payment of the agreed+ 25% equity. The Bank declined his request as a result of Innoson’s failure to meet the agreed conditions.

2. It came to the Bank’s knowledge sometime in June, 2011 that the Imported Goods for which the Bank declined to release shipping documents to Innoson in view of its failure to meet the agreed conditions, had been fraudulently procured by Innoson.

3. The Bank discovered that Innoson, under the control of Dr. Innocent Chukwuma had forged the Bank’s endorsement on the bills of lading to the Shipping Line and fraudulently cleared the Imported Goods which were in the name of the Bank. The Imported Goods, being property of the Bank should not have been cleared from the Port without the original shipping documents being endorsed by the Bank in favour of Innoson, or any third party.

4. The signatures of 4 (four) staff of the Bank, to wit, Taofeek Olalere, Dan Attah, Bunmi Adeyemi and Amazu Amalachukwu, as well as the Bank’s stamp were forged on all the shipping documents used by Innoson to fraudulently clear goods at the port. The Bank did not at any time endorse or transfer the shipping documents to Innoson, as the originals of each of the relevant Bill of Lading remain in the Bank’s custody to this very day.

5. When the Bank reported the matter to the Nigeria Police, Dr. Innocent Chukwuma claimed the Bank released the shipping documents to him. Consequently, the Police commenced investigation into the Bank’s complaint, including a forensic examination of the disputed signatures, and established that the signatures of the Bank’s staff were forged, and the Imported Goods were fraudulently cleared from the Nigerian Ports Authority by Dr. Innocent Chukwuma and his accomplices.

What we heard from the Police:

1. Police investigations confirmed that Innoson and Dr. Innocent Chukwuma deliberately set out to defraud, steal from the Bank and convert the Imported Goods belonging to the Bank by deceptive means and through forgery and misrepresentation. The unlawful takeover of the Imported Goods, which served as the Bank’s collateral, left an indebtedness in excess of the sum of N1,654,481,895.04 (one billion, six hundred and fifty four million, four hundred and eighty one thousand, eight hundred and ninety five Naira, four Kobo) as at September 26, 2012.

2. Chief Innocent Chukwuma was arrested and interrogated by operatives of the EFCC, following which he agreed to make monthly payments into Innoson’s account until the full liquidation of Innoson’s indebtedness to the Bank. However, Innoson defaulted in making the agreed payments. Investigations by the Nigeria Police following a petition by the Bank in September 2013 also found Innoson and Chief Innocent Chukwuma culpable of the criminal allegations levied against them by the Bank, and Chief Innocent Chukwuma was accordingly charged to court by the Police.

3. The Police filed Charge No. FHC/L/565C/2015-Inspector General Of Police And Innoson Nigeria Limited; Innocent Chukwuma;Charles Chukwuma;Maximian Chukwura; Mitsui Osk Lines; Annajekwu Sunny for fraudulent clearance of goods, forgery, conversion, stealing and conspiracy presently pending before Faji J, at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi and adjourned to November 21, 2017 for arraignment/or hearing of motion for issuance of Bench Warrant.

What Innoson did:

1. Innoson approached the Bank for a reconciliation of his account and pleaded for a debt forgiveness. A reconciliation was carried out on the account – which had a debit balance of N1,654,481,895.04 as at December 31, 2011. In the spirit of amicable resolution and EFCC intervention, the Bank said it agreed to forego the sum of N559,374,072.09 which represented default charges that has accrued on the account and debited in line with the loan agreement between the customer and the Bank.

2. Based on this, the Bank decided to accept from the customer, the sum of N1,095,107,822.95 as full and final payment of the customer’s indebtedness to the Bank, provided that same shall be fully paid not later than (30) days from the date of the letter written to him

3. Surprisingly, Innoson commenced suit no:FHC/AWK/CS/2012 against the Bank at the Federal High Court, Awka stating the bank had debited its account with excess charges totalling N559,374,072.09 and obtained judgement in excess of N4.7Billion against the Bank. Again choosing to dishonour an agreement that was amicable reached between him and the Bank for a full and final settlement of N1,095,107,822.95 wherein the Bank graciously forgave him the sum of N559,374,072.09 which accrued on his account during the period which he abandoned his account.

4. To further stall the criminal proceedings against him, Chief Innocent Chukwuma and his company instituted suits at the Federal High Court, Abuja, as well as the Federal High Court, Awka in January 2014 against The Inspector General of Police, The Nigeria Police Force and Investigating Officer(s), seeking declaratory and injunctive reliefs, including orders restraining the Police from commencing criminal proceedings against Innoson and Chief Innocent Chukwuma. Furthermore, in a bid to stall the Bank’s recovery steps, and distract the Bank from focusing on the criminal action, as well as civil actions filed for recovery of the debt, Chief Innocent Chukwuma and his company Innoson, have continued to institute various spurious suits before various courts, claiming frivolous and outrageous sums against the Bank.

What GTBank is not saying:
1. In responding to Innoson’s motion for a stay of criminal proceedings at the Court of Appeal, the Honourable Justice J.S Ikyegh on September 17,2017 dismissed the motion for being unmeritorious and ordered that proceeding in the criminal case against Innson should proceed.

2. On October 12, 2017, the Police through its Charge No. FHC/L/565C/2015- filed an application for the issuance of bench warrant against Innocent Chukwuma; Charles Chukwuma and Annajekwu Sunny for fraudulent clearance of goods, forgery, conversion, stealing and conspiracy presently pending before Faji J, at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi and adjourned to Decemeber 8, 2017 for arraignment/or hearing of motion.

What we think:
Innoson should stop trying to play the underdog and simply resolve his issues through legal means or arbitration. On Innoson playing the Igbo tribe card, this is not in good taste in this moment in history. We are aware of GTBank’s strong position on unpaid debts. We know GTBank has gone often several debtors of the bank irrespective of who they are or where they come from. So why is Innoson’s matter now tribal? Please, this makes no sense. Innoson and GTBank, resolve your issues privately and let us all hear word.

Merry Christmas my people

Don't know much about the estate but i haven't seen it flood before. The houses are not really close to the canal, it's just by the estate wall. I should imagine that it will affect the houses outside the gate more maybe mosquitoes.
Okay, thank you

I think he means that canal that runs just outside the walls of Lekki County.
Hi, thank you for your input.

So there is a canal by the estate and not a river. Please does it have any untoward effect on the estate& its environs such as flooding and the likes? I apologise for the bother

Lekki county? I'm not sure theres a canal or body of water at Lekki County. Are you sure its not Ikota village/school side?
Lekki county is not flood prone, IMO.
Thank you for your reply. To be honest I really don't know the area.

Perhaps we were given the wrong info but we were told you access the estate through Lekki county homes gate from the lekki-epe expressway. That the canal(river) is behind the estate but perhaps they were wrong.

Thank you once again

OP, I have been searching for u and this thread. I saw it some weeks ago and told my staff who's interested. She called u and went to inspect the place. Granted, you didn't ask her to pay registration or inspection fees but for crying out loud, this house is not at Ikota villa estate, rather it's at " Ikota village right by Ikota bridge". Big difference!!!!
Please be honest and specific.
Hi ifyalways, sorry to bother you but it appears you are quite familiar with Ikota and environs and I hope you wouldn't mind me asking a few questions.

A friend of mine is prospecting a property around the Ikota axis, Lekki county to be precise but what got us worried was being told the property was very close to a large body of water- I'm guessing the Ikota river? Is it a canal? Or part of the Lagos Lagoon?

This is what I'd like to know. Is lekki county& other estates within its vicinity flood prone like friends colony? Are the houses there being built on a flood plain seeing as they're close to a river? Or is the area okay with well planned drainages? Please reply& thanks in anticipation.

And Atiku can also use the senate and HOR to frustrate Buhari like he did during Obj's tenure.

The truth is, I really want Buhari to succeed in turning Nigeria around. But he's just about to be distracted by high-wired politicking. Is he as cunning as Obasanjo? Does he have the stomach for high wired politicking and rofo-rofo fight like Fayose and co?

Is Nigeria about to be caged again by powerful cabals? I wish him all the best

I am surprised that a thread as thought-provoking as this is yet to make front page.

Lalasticlala, Ishilove don't you guys think this is front page worthy? We should all contribute our part towards building a Nigeria of our dreams and a good way to start is the education of our youths by promoting threads that stimulate deep-thinking.

This thread is introspective and serves as a call-back to parents and youths alike. There is a dearth in the intellectual quality of our youths and something has to be urgently done about it. I think our educational system needs to be overhauled and our learning processes improved upon

SAMBARRY:
Greatest nigerian students
articulate nigerian students grin

your hand work

On the contrary I think the student's response even though technically wrong still shows deep thinking. He could process the question and analyse it but just didn't get the correct answer where you get into bacteria and micro-organisms being the causative agents of food poisoning.

The teacher was rather harsh. Rather than insulting the boy she could have set it up as a debate in the next class. You'd be surprised at how many other class mates share the same view with the boy. Putting it up for discussion in class would have been an excellent opportunity to further explain and guide the students understanding through practical excersises like food spoilage etc. Even the juju aspect could have been explained as being concentrated sources of germs or opium from poisonous plants... Something to get the students thinking critically with a problem solving mindset.

Also the use of local parlance juju, babalawo etc by the student validates the need for learning to be done in local Nigerian languages that students can easily identify with like the French, Chinese,Indians etc have in their respective countries

The ECA and crude price deferentials why was there no response on that? The SURE-P funding from extraneous sources? Why is she silent?

The subsidy/ oil marketer issues are already public knowledge so her vituperation on that is unnecessary.

It will not bring inflation if the funds are channeled directly and strictly to manufacturing and infrastructure for a limited period of time.

And how do you ensure that?

With the antecedent of Nigeria and the history of corruption, its a big gamble.

I don't think it would be a good idea. Theoretically it is fantastic but going down to implementation in a complex society like Nigeria, it just might worsen things. Its already been a battle keeping inflation at single digit levels.

Quantitative easing works best in a deflation when you already have industries and want to kickstart consumption or expansion. In our own case the manufacturing industries are almost non existent, same with critical infrastructure.

At some point we might need to import some components of those infrastructures we don't have comparative advantage in producing as well as source expatriate technical know-how. All these will lead to pressure on the naira. There's a reason why countries borrow. If it were so easy, most governments would just print whatever amount of cash they needed to finance their economies

While Tinubu's heart might be in the right place- staving off the pains of austerity, the idea is a terribly bad one.

Hyperinflation calling.

For an import dependent country with zero production value and lacking in critical infrastructure, printing more naira to finance same would just not work but serve to depreciate further the value of the naira.

We certainly don't want our naira to have junk value status do we?

A more realistic approach is to prune down the cost of governance, create an enabling environment for FDI and reduce recurrent expenditure in our budget while creating more for capital expenditure. That's a good way to start

Your analogy is Apples and oranges.

The obvious reason for the protest is to deter any such occurrence in the future.

I am not sure anyone would want such negative publicity so it will discourage anyone from any tribe making hate speeches.

Racist statements are some of the most career damaging anywhere in the developed world.
It is not peculiar to Nigeria.
My point here is, it's always important to have a wholistic view about things especially when dealing with an ethnically charged society like Nigeria. In the attempt to 'deal' with Ariyo let's be careful lest it becomes Igbo versus Yoruba back home in Nigeria.

We all saw how the Akiolu saga cost Agbaje the governorship bid.

It has not yet been proven that Dr Ariyo actually made those hate speeches since he claimed his account was hacked. At least I've seen pornsite videolinks on the timeline of some of my very upright fb friends & when I wondered at it was told they had no idea how it got there, to be able to give the benefit of doubt.

So I'm wondering why not wait till he's been actually found guilty or the TMB given its verdict before all the protests or what not?

A few days back Wole Soyinka was accused of the same thing till the newspaper that published the story retracted & issued an apology. If the paper had tarried we would probably have had the same show of anger& vitroil

This is a very disturbing trend& there's the need to apply caution rather than rushing blindly to settle scores against 'perceived enemies'

That is what keeps normalcy in the world.

If you commit a crime you get punished.

We all are shouting that the SA government did not do enough to curb xenophobia/genocide.

Well this is how it starts, from one verbose Oba to a talkative doctor, before you know it, it becomes norm.

That is why such actions must be vehemently discouraged less it turns into something monstrous.
Okay. Fair enough.

But in my neck of the woods, I know you don't kill an ant with a sledgehammer. Sure the ant will die. But the hammer would cause a crack on the rocky floor, sending you, over the precipice if you were on a mountain.

Did Dr Ariyo make the xenophobic statement in a public fora, like a gathering of Yoruba youths asking them to go up in arms or in a private conversation like a lot of bigots are wont to do? What is his sphere of influence? Is he a Yoruba leader of some sort? How many people even knew about his existence talk more of his statement before someone latched on and blew it up?

What then is the aim of these protests? To serve as a deterrent for future hate speech offenders or just to destroy him? These are the things I don't understand because if the aim is to serve as a deterrent then I don't see it achieving that.

Rather I'm worried it might achieve the opposite if it stokes ethnic tension.

This is more like it.

Seeking solutions rather than just trying to villify

Opposition is always healthy for any democracy but when it becomes vindictive that's when its something else.

At precarious times like these with the economic realities starring us in the face, all hands must be on deck. If Nigeria works it will be to the benefit of us all regardless of tribal or religious affiliations.

For those wishing to secede there are legal and peaceful means of going about that rather than the tribal and ethnic jingoism going on around here.

A referendum is easy to ask for in any democratic society. We must stop all the tribal supremacy and hate mongering around here.

It is because some Igbos think the Yorubas owe them some blind and automatic loyalty as per "southern solidarity". Yet when the Yorubas play politics of pragmatism, which means we must build bridges and inspect what all sides have to offer, some are terribly upset we have not supported them blindly and myopically as they are always prone to doing for anything/anyone they are connected with.

This is why they can be shouting "betrayal" at the SW over the 2015 election when any reasonable person will agree that they are merely talking out of a sense of prejudice, hate and unreasonable 1diocy. When GEJ was deemed "transformation" in 2011 the Yorubas voted for him and he won five out of the six SW States because the region loves the concept of trying to support those they think will deliver good governance.

Fast forward 4 years in which GEJ has totally destroyed Nigeria and singled out the Yorubas for ridicule and tacitly endorsed their ethnic derision from his SS and SE minions. Is it then not an entirely unreasonable mind that will not understand that the Yorubas are fully justified rejecting Jonathan? They want us to always automatically and myopically join them in fighting the North and denying "born to rule" of power yet they will never understand that the Yorubas have more on their mind than the blind, vengeful and unending hatred of others. We think of the development of Nigeria and our region. We think of the dignity and pride of Nigeria and we think of what is best for the common man. That is what drove the choice we made for the 2015 election even if some will never understand this because they always want to make war and not love/peace.

Today they are the ones mainly to be found wishing failure on APC and GMB never mind that they will be the main victims of misrule as is the case for all of us with PDP 16 years misrule that affected everyone and did not spare those who did not vote PDP. It is a shame Nigeria has so many enemies within as it just means our journey to progress and prosperity will take longer than it needs to. When a people cannot even wait graciously for a leader to be sworn in, to see what said leader can do, and must wish him failure then you know the 'human capital' endowment of Nigeria is regrettably not what it should be.

Okay but I only see them creating more problems for themselves if they keep at this ethnic and hatred politicking.

This would only serve to polarize them from other ethnic groups

It should now be clear to Yorubas how some are obsessed with "payback time" against us even when our region remain the most hospitable, most accomodating and tolerant of all. Na wa sha. You profit the most from a people yet you remain entirely obsess with seeing them "punished" and getting "payback". All because, as Osita Okechuckwu eloquently stated, some remain obsessed with seeing others "chop sad".

Mr.Gokuu, how market today? Where has the politics of hate, vengeance and bitterness got you? What have you gained from supporting GEJ clannishly for 5 years while people like you turned him into an SE/SS President and ensured he perceived Yorubas as his enemy. The sad thing is that you lot have no capacity for learning lessons. The hate that drives you is too strong to allow you to do that. Imagine someone who probably was not alive when Awolowo was politically active still hatefully ranting against the man. "chop sand syndrome" fully on display on this thread.

Seems like paranoia.

Remb crime committed 50yrs ago,can and will be judge today. Hope you av heard of such b4?. The Oba's speech is already documented in the ICC waiting for anytime voilence will erupt as a result of this speech he made

It would have to be proven beyond doubt that indeed the Oba's speech was responsible for a violence that erupted 50 years later.

You'd have to agree with me that is next to impossible. Cases ICC takes seriously are usually war crimes, such as a leader using massive force against his own citizens such as we saw with Saddam Hussein et al.

These petitions and several others I listed earlier are just mere academic exercises which amount to nothing
