EUROBOMBER: That is not the point, why are we not shouting into the faces of the northerners that Kano is a no-man's-land since we control the markets there and developing the place? Your guess is as good as mine. The truth will set you free brother. Hatred and bitterness will lead us nowhere. What wrong have the Yoruba done to us to deserve such hatred for Christs sakes?
In their desperate ambition to take over Lagos, the trio of Bode George, Ogunlewe and Jimi Agbaje have almost started a tribal war. I really wish them well
Seun, a call was made very early yesterday for this thread to be moved to front page but was ignored and I wonder why. Do you not think it makes sense to have balanced reporting and does Nairaland not stand for fairness again?
The Oba has done a condemnable thing giving a hate speech but is it right to keep quiet when the very basis of PDP's campaign was wiping up ethnic sentiments in the first place?
Oba Akiolu goofed and has been called out. Can we give it a rest already before the whole thing takes a dimension of Igbo vs Yoruba?
It's expected that PDP would milk this for all it's worth but we must not all get carried away. Other politicians and even our First Lady have made similar calls in the past. It only goes to show how uncouth with speech our leaders are.
It also points to the need for us to respect our host communities and not make them feel threathened. We all know that the leverage Igbo's enjoy in Lagos is not up to what other ethnic groups enjoy in the south east. JK started the ethnic politicking by courting the Igbos which was wrong. Igbo's should go out on Saturday and vote whoever they want.
tollu: That is how JK the NOT OK man has been running his campaign. You can see the divide and rule tactics from inception. I strongly doubt that th Oba said all those thing the media claim. Going by PDP's campaign in Lagos, it is easy to see that the speech released is just a consolidation of the propaganda they initiated It is so sad to see that many smart people are falling for this.
I also doubt those where the Oba's exact words. Those who play the politics of hatred shall definitely not succeed
tollu: As in! This is a flyer that was handed out to Igbos. If that is not meant to cause division, then I don't know what is. Frustrated politicians that cannot realise their personal ambitions with their brains.
This is the divisiveness I was against. Why the politics of hatred? This must be what the Oba reacted to
Lalasticlala, Seun can we have this on front page in the spirit of fairness.
SirShymexx: Well, in Yoruba culture - Kings are immortal. They represent the gods. Anyway, was the psychotic Igbo leader who had a lot of unpleasant things to say about Yorubas and Awolowo, during the last Anambra election, with GEJ sitting there, arrested for what he said? Since he wasn't arrested - leave the King alone. He's just returning the favour, and anything goes in the animal kingdom. You lot need to thread with caution. You're not the only other Nigerian ethnic group represented in the Lagos, but your innate greed and covetousness will end up as your Achilles heel. No matter how crude/uncivilised the message/messenger might sound, it tells a lot beyond the surface. This shows Yorubas are actually watching the Igbos carefully, and a lot of them have had enough - and one madness might trigger something that will consume everyone. Say NO to violence and learn how to co-exist peacefully with your hosts. Moreover, how come Igbos are always liberal whenever they're outside their enclaves. However, in ya region - it's all about all kinds of clannishness? An Ebonyi person can't work in Imo's civil service. Abia not comfortable with other Igbos in its civil service. Anambra feeling superior to other Igbos. Ngwas not selling lands to other Igbos etc.,? I think charity must begin at home, don't you think?
Well said. Besides why was the title of this topic changed to "you'll die in seven days etc on the front page? A particular mod trying to stoke ethnic Hatred? Seun you need to tutor your mods on not using your forum to stoke ethnic division
babyosisi: What an utter fool you are Someone intelligent enough to type letters on his cell phone to make a word doesn't have enough common sense to know that people are free in a democracy to vote however they wish. In Osun state that is nearly 100% Yoruba the votes were almost an even split between Buhari and Jonathan You want to live in a democracy but insist on your asinine cave mentality FYI Igbos in Lagos are there to stay There is not a thing you can do about it,that is an assurance I make you,any day you wake up and God had spared your miserable life, you will walk out your door and see tons of Igbos and others and so shall it be till the day you end up six feet under I guarantee you that The most you can do is enter your pit latrine or find a gutter and do a poo poo You can go ahead and use a heated knife and draw tribal marks on your face in anguish Ewu As a matter of fact ,while I type about 40 luxurious buses are heading to Lagos, many from Igboland Easter vacationers returning home to Lagos after a much needed holiday Even if you formed an armed robbery gang to stop them, you can't stop them all Infact you may be the one to catch a bullet in the groin
You're right. He can't stop them. But that's because of the current laws guiding Nigeria which ensures all Nigerians can freely move about across all states.
I don't think the law condones divisiveness and stoking of hatred though and that's a trait we should all guard against
EggovinMma: Wow!You made a lot of sense. Maybe I was just being sentimental, felt Apc may become too powerful an opposition, especially to smaller parties, because as it stands, the presidency factor will have a huge influence in the governorship elections, especially in opposition states.
I get where you're coming from but the truth is we the masses hold the power.
The minute the Buhari led FG begins to misbehave I can tell you I'd be first to advocate the APC should be voted out come 2019. It's about people power now. PDP has failed and they need to be humbled so they can restrategize and purge out the bad weeds amongst them. Lagos shouldn't be handed to them as a consolation prize.
If APC is stupid enough to take the bad eggs in and move down the path of ignominy, it would be voted out come 2019.
EggovinMma: I know you are a change advocate sometimes in life, we should practice what we preach. Nothing to do,it remains a constant thing in life.
Hi Eggovinmma, Perhaps you didn't understand the change we preached. The PDP failed Nigerians in the way of governance& security wh7ich was why we clamoured for change.
In the case of Lagos, there's no such thing. If you compare the Lagos of the 90s which was chaotic, massive potholes etc with now you'd actually see that Lagos has enjoyed massive development. Look at the prompt response to the Ebola incidence. The only reason why there are a lot of uncompleted projects like the mile2 road expansion, lekki deep seaport etc is because of paucity of funds due to lack of support from the PDP lead FG at the centre. It's also the reason why there was high taxation by the state to increase IGR to fund it's program.
Until the Lagos scenario changes, we shouldn't fix what's not broken
kay29000: Hmm! Igbo people are already regrouping in my area, and saying they will give this Governorship election all they got. Let's not continue to make things an ethnic thing. I know Tinunbu is not clean, but there are too many ongoing projects on ground, and Agbaje wouldn't know how to continue them. I will vote Ambode. But, I feel it will be a very tough elections, as igbos will vote en masse and some Yoruba and Hausa's in Lagos might not make voting a serious matter, since Buhari has already won the presidential elections. Let us wait and see sha
Oh but must everything boil down to ethnicity? In that case Ambode needs to campaign harder to other lagosians.
Revenge voting/sentimental voting is not what Lagos needs now. The benefits of Lagos sticking with APC far outweigh that of pdp
Fashola performed in Lagos hence what Lagos needs is continuity to ensure some yet to be completed projects and reforms are not jettisoned
I quite agree. Lagos stands to benefit a lot from the centre with APC's recent win and it's only logical for lagosians to go with APC during the gubernatorial polls.
But the people's will should prevail if they choose to go PDP. It's all about the people now
Congrats to our amiable General and a bigger congrats to all Nigerians. This is a victory for democracy and proves indeed that power belongs to the people.
Our leaders now know we'd hold them accountable
Congrats GMB/PYO Congrats to all progressives; we fought a good fight and Congrats to all Nigerians!!!
GenBuhari: You have avoided answering the question. My friend you should stop asking people for money if you are unwilling to reveal your political leanings. To me, the fact that you are willing to collect money from people by hiding an aspect of yourself means you are devious disloyal and unprincipled. It is the same character flaw, that landed you in the mess you in are today. Imagine that a person was kind enough to employ in his very (one-man) small business, and you repaid his kindness with betrayal by using his office to run a business that is a direct competitor to your employer. So the fact you got found out and dismissed is your own doing. I hope you learn from this experience and learn to be more honest and loyal, especially with people who are showing you kindness.
Please could you kindly leave politics out of this? I'm sure he's learnt his lesson and there's no need to rub it in.
Nigerians should get ready for a very bumpy ride ahead. It would have been nice though if our leaders led the way by first slashing their own pay, reducing their very long list of special advisers, political hanger-ons et al, fleets of cars, jets and what have you...
Seun: I have no proof of anything but it would be easy to plant collaborators in the protesting crowd to create a particular impression. I know this is paranoid but: once deceived, twice shy.
Hmmm, that's a thought.
But from what I saw; people scuttling away from the lady, being shy to speak... it didn't look like that's what happened. But then again nobody knows what really went down behind the scenes.
One thing I do know is that it is a big shame what politicking has been reduced to in Nigeria. We have a presidential election and rather than focusing on real issues it's accusations& counter-accusations on frivolous issues... Who died, who's alive, whether there's a lecture at Chatham house or not and all sorts of inane, stupid things.
And the tragedy of it all is the youths who should know better are willing pawns in the divisive and destructive games the political elite are playing against the masses. It should be WE against the ruling class. But instead we are willing pawns in their divide and rule tactics.
Seun: Here is a screenshot from the video as well as the picture from the first post. So are they the same person?
I think so but egift already gave a plausible explanation below. Do you not think that sounds logical and could be what happened?
egift: You still don't get it. 1. PDP paid some students to come and protest against Buhari in London. 2. A Buhari supporter went into the anti-Buhari crowd to ask them why the are protesting and they shamefully could not state any good defense. 3. The second video is the lady that organized the protest for PDP being asked some questions without her know it is being recorded. Try and watch the videos if you have not. PDP will never give her another contract again. Her greed to land another gig exposed her. Shm.
Smh. A lot of them don't even know why or what they are protesting against
Premium times was right after all and it goes to say a lot about this administration doling out money to buy supporters. It's also shameful that the practice of "crowd renting" as we've seen in political rallies over in Nigeria is now being gradually exported outside our shores.
Obinoscopy Lalasticlala can we please have this on front page? People deserve to know what manner of protesters and "protests" went down at the Chatham House today
So freaking funny, it's obvious they were paid. Can u make a separate thread for the video so more nairalanders can see what "manner" of protests went down at the Chatham house?
I must commend you for your great show of love to the general, quite obvious in your write up with a large dose of understanding of human lapses and frailties- very forgiven of you. Need anyone why the opposite for Mr President? Check this reply by berem.
I wish to point out that hate is like a baggage, you carry it around and it weighs you down. Can we for once do away with hate for GEJ or GMB and see them for real for what they are and not hate-filled views that kills the soul. Even if you don't love GEJ can you just see him as human as GMB is seen by the qouted poster.
I quite agree with you. We must learn to put forward our preferences and opinions without name-calling or hate. It's only healthy for a democracy as young as ours.
woodcook: You sound forgiving and humane, I like that, but am sure that was GEJ you sure would have called him clueless and asked for his head to be served on a plate.
No. That's not me. I've never indulged in name calling but instead focused on the issues. I have utmost respect for President Jonathan and his office. I'm nonpartisan and sort of on the fence though I must confess of late I've been leaning more towards the opposition because it does appear the present administration has a soft spot for corruption
I must confess I was impressed by the General's gait and composure plus the way he tackled questions thrown at him without resorting to personal attacks on the incumbent administration.
Sure, there was the occasional slip ups with Inec referred to as Independent Nigeria electoral commision as against Independent National electoral commission, APC as All progressives confidence and 6 weeks as 6 months but it was just that; a slip. Perfectly human and perfectly normal....even the lady asking the questions had a slip at a point though she corrected herself.
Seun, can we have this on front page? Folks who had wanted to see the general in a debate would have the opportunity of hearing him speak via this interview.
