Nairaland mods and supermods should live up to their responsibility by censoring this child's photographs. It is part of their gate-keeping function. I know they have in the past placed their stamp on a piece I once wrote because another OP had beaten me to it and posted it earlier. They owe this baby anonymity and identity protection. Minors are protected the world over when they unexpectedly find themselves in the public limelight, especially negative ones. Nairaland and other blogs should do this for children, protect them from exposure to negative publicity. |
THE Senate has begun prove in the Speed Limiting Device initiative being introduced by the Federal Road Safety Corps,FRSC, saying that of implemented, it would further traumatized the suffering Nigerians that were already going through the present economic hardship. The Senate Thursday mandated the Senator Tijani Kaura, All Progressives Congress, APC, Zamfara North led Committee on Federal Character to as a matter of urgency, carry out a holistic investigation of plans by the FRSC to introduce the speed limit policy and sell the same device to road users. The resolution of the Senate was sequel to a point of Order raised by Senator Dino Melaye, APC, Kogi West, just as he asked the Senate to stop the policy which he said was bound to unleash more hardship on the people. Senator Melaye said, “I draw inspiration from order 43, Mr President I bring to the notice of the Nigerian senate, the house of the talakawas that the road safety is proposing and about to implement a policy that will not go down well with the masses of this country. “There is a proposal by the road safety to introduce speed limit device and this device is to be sold to individuals by road safety and if you have two cars, you will buy two devices – a speed limit device. “Mr. President my respected colleagues, this is not the time to bring hardship on the already traumatised people of this country, in every civilised part of the world, it is the responsibility of road safety or agencies like theirs to mount speed limit device on roads that when you beat such device, they either flag you down or go after you. “But not to ask individuals to purchase speed limit device from road safety and this is not a time to do it. So in accordance to the calling to protect the masses of this country, I want to call on Mr. President so that the relevant committee that oversight the road safety to intervene and stop this draconian move.” In his remarks, Senate President Bukola Saraki who referred the matter to its committee on Federal Character for further legislative action, with no date fixed, “The committee will look into this matter and bring a report back to us.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/senate-probe-frsc-planned-speed-limit-policy/ |
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to unfreeze the account of former first lady Patience Goodluck Jonathan. The account contains $5.9 million. Recall that a Federal high court sitting in Lagos had in December last year ordered the freezing of multiple accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, suspected to be owned by Dame Patience Jonathan and also suspected to be proceeds of crime. One of the accounts in the former First Lady’s name contained specifically the sum of $5,316.66. The court while giving reasons as to why it ordered the accounts frozen said it was on the ground that the money is suspected to be proceeds of crime. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/senate-probe-frsc-planned-speed-limit-policy/ |
On Monday, a Press Conference was held by Dr. Frederick Fasehun, Founder and President of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and National Chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), in Lagos. ON OSINBAJO He said: “We must confess that the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has brought a new atmosphere of faith and confidence in the Nigeria project. Unlike a few months back when people like Reverend Matthew Hassan-Kukah expressed palpable fear about the future of Nigeria, Professor Osinbajo, in his short time of being in charge, has rekindled faith in this country. Through his hands-on approach to governance and indiscriminate dialogue with people in their natural environments, Osinbajo has shown that this regime can build a united nation where no man feels oppressed because of ethnic or political differences. ON CUSTOMS VERSUS SENATE Why should the end-user be the one to pay for Customs’ dereliction of duty at the border posts? Are we not in danger of waking up one day to find Customs’ officers invading people’s homes to demand import papers for furniture, electronic appliances and clothing items? We urge The Presidency and the Minister of Internal Affairs to immediately compel the Comptroller-General to obey the Senate’s order. Colonel Hameed Alli must obey the Senate. ON NATIONAL CONFERENCE Adopting the resolutions of that Confab will stop the country’s drift from crisis to crisis and we urge the Federal Government to take urgent steps to facilitate their implementation. Other highlights: 1. Nigerians are still expecting the Buhari-Osinbajo government to deliver on campaign promises, including: 2. Banning government officials from seeking medical attention abroad 3. Improving the value of the naira and making a dollar equal to one naira 4. Rescuing the Chibok girls 5. Ending Boko Haram and curbing insecurity 6. Improving power supply 7. Paying 23 million Nigerians N5,000 monthly 8. Paying post-NYSC youths a stipend 9. Honouring the rule of law 10. Ending corruption 11. Feeding primary school pupils 12. Reducing fuel price to N45 per litre 13. Reviving all the refineries in the first year in office, while building more for domestic consumption.

Sparks look set to fly on Wednesday when Customs Comptroller-General, Colonel Hameed Alli (retired), has an appointment with the Senate that has directed that he appears in uniform. Signals indicate that like on previous occasions, he would refuse to obey the order to wear his uniform. He has also refused to withdraw Customs officers from the highways as the Senate demanded last week. Colonel Hameed Alli was unilaterally appointed by the President to head Customs. His appointment subjugated and compromised the usual career progression, through seniority, that was traditionally employed in picking the head of this major agency. Within and outside Customs, the retired Colonel is seen as one of the “tactless errors” committed by PMB. The Customs’ boss has not helped matters by his stubborn refusal to wear the uniform of the Comptroller-General of Customs, the post he holds. His excuse has been that as a former Military officer, he could not wear the Customs’ uniform. Following are some persons who do not belong to some military cum para-military bodies but who wear their uniforms by virtue of their role in those organisations. Yes, the girl's condition is verifiable... through a visit to LASUTH, Ikeja, or the patient's home at 32, Liasu Road, in Egbe area of Alimosho Local Government in Lagos. If it would help, I could also upload some of the hospital records the family gave me from General Hospital, Isolo, Lagos and LASUTH. |
