A FEW THINGS YOU DID NOT KNOW ABOUT DR. FREDERICK FASEHUN I am reading this post on Nairaland and I could not but feel scandalised and embarrassed at the level of disrespect that a Poster displayed against the Founder of the OPC, Dr. Frederick Fasehun. And I am left wondering if the nonentity (the poster cannot be but that) could plumb the depth of the stupidity he displayed through his petty post. I don’t know whether the poster is really educated about the Elder Statesman he dared to address so shabbily (with such words as "empty barrel" and "yam eater"). Do we realise that Fasehun... 1. Is 80 years old (celebrated 80 last year, in a weeklong event at which Sunny Ade played) 2. Is a grandpa, with illustrious children (many of them Millionaires) 3. Is an Elder Statesman 4. Is one of the most detribalised Nigerians you will ever meet (his daughter is married to an Igbo man) 5. Left his lecturer job at LUTH in the 1970s because he would not dance to corruption 6. Has been jailed severally in the cause of democracy 7. Is the owner of a three-storey hospital 8. Is an Author of several books 9. Is the owner of a sprawling hotel, Century Hotel, Lagos) on 2 acres 10. Is a medical doctor, who qualified in Scotland around 1969, over 37 years ago 11. Is the founder of OPC, a socio-cultural organisation that gave the Yoruba people its pride in the wake of the June 12 insult 12. Is in control of a group with over 1 million members (they actually claim about 6 million broken into different factions) 13. Has all tribes in his employment 14. Is one of the reasons anyone would think twice before contemplating attacking Yoruba land 15. Is one of those who founded NADECO 16. Is one of those people whom Abacha tried to bribe with a position but rejected it 17. Is one of those who risked his life for this democracy we enjoy today 18. Is the one who led Chief Anthony Enahoro out of Nigeria through the NADECO Route to exile 19. Is National Chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria 20. Is a Philanthropist Per Excellence 21. Was offered a post by GEJ but he rejected it Is one of those who gave non-indigenes the “liver” to come out and exercise their voting rights in the face of “lagoon threats” by the Kabiyesi 22. Is one of those who warned the country about PMB not being Nigeria’s Messiah and you be the judge 23. ETC, ETC. |

OP, na u biko. I give you twale. Anyone who began life like this has/had a great foundation for life. God bless praying parents. Comments here are giving me expo on how I will be handling my kids. Jesus is Lord! |
First, they chained Bukola Saraki; and people gave the thumbs-up. Then, they tactfully defanged NLC; and the crowd still thought it was OK. Now they are gunning for Fayose; once more, the crowd is clapping. The danger in all this targeted assault is the demolition of the wall between the Executive and the Legislature and the deleting of the time-tested independence and immunity of sitting Governors. And this crass display of impunity forebodes danger for everybody. If oak trees are being bent, what chances have Rose flowers? The day an arm of government, any arm, no matter its claim to benevolence or piousness, begins to trample upon the Constitutional privileges of the other arms, that day we all become endangered. The Constitution is our grundnorm. It is basic. And those who swore to uphold it must bow to it, with all its imperfections, loopholes and inadequacies. We see the beginning of something ominous. Problem is we don't know who next, and where it will all end. Now, more than ever, we need lend an ear to the haunting words of Pastor Martin Niemoller, who, when Hitler in Germany began deleting the incurable sick, the Jews, the Communists and the Jehovah's Witnesses, could not believe the adulation his people showered on the emerging Dictator and war-monger, Adolf Hitler. Disappointed at his kinsmen’s myopic indifference, he penned these words that proved prophetic: "First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me." Someone gets this -surely? |
Benikuuse:Including Buhari, whom Abacha appointed as PTF Chairman |
May this was what APC meant when it said since the budget has been signed, people should not go and hug transformer again -now transformer will be coming to hug people. Fashola at work! |
Jirate:The Ore-Benin road was not, is not and can never be an Oshiomhole project or achievement. It is purely Jonathan and FG. We seriously pray that PMB will complete it all the way to Shagamu and also finish the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, whose expansion and modernisation began under GEJ. |
Goodbye, my Principal 1980-82. Always looking dapper, PKC Ibegbulam was the perfect gentleman. He carried himself well. He picked his words like one would bite White Vitamin C tablet, delicately and carefully. Petit and diminutive in stature, the Principal enforced his presence through the vast KC compound sandwiched among the Lagos High Courts, the City Hall, the Independence Building and the Tafawa Balewa Square. And I was proud to have served as a Prefect under him. Nothing about the array of Nigerian BLUE-BLOODS and WHO IS WHO intimidated him, in those days when students' population included the sons of Olusegun Obasanjo, Shehu Shagari, Alex Ekwueme, Ovie-Whiskey, Marinho, Tayo Akpata, Okonjo (dunno whether SHE is the same one), Okumagba, Ernest Shonekan, Adebajo, Murtala Muhammed, etc etc. We share this moment of grief with his family. "...Service to the Living, Honour to the Dead." Floreat! |
I understand where you are coming from. If not for the 3rd-party baby mama thingy, I would have counselled you to go ahead and marry him, because love can grow, if you invest your commitment and will to the relationship. But Heaven has warned you through your dream, so please, back off. Meanwhile, fear not. You are spiritually connected to Heaven, hence, you got the revelation of his impregnating someone else through your dream. And Heaven will continue to help you and back you up. So put the matter before God and God completely. Make him become the villain in this drama because he really is... for two-timing you and impregnating another lady. It is time to play a socio-psychological game. Get all families involved, yours, his and the baby-mama's. Tell them you will not rob the baby of his dad. And you have no intention of having your coming children play second fiddle in the man's home. Everyone will empathise with that. Dont mention your not loving him. In fact, tell them you had for all these years committed to the relationship and this is why you did not fall to other men who have been wooing you on and off campus. But you cannot marry someone else's left-over. Lodge a formal report with the police over his threats. Make sure he writes a commitment at the police station, and let him be given a restraining order. But be confident that no weapon fashioned against you (physical or spiritual) shall prosper. Do not succumb to his blackmail at all at all. With God, the police and the family on your side, you should be free to move on with your life. |

NIGERIA, THE MORE YOU LOOK, THE LESS YOU SEE. FOR ALL THOSE PMB AND APC FOLKS, PLEASE, CHECK THIS OUT... • “What I know is that Tompolo made many enemies when he worked for the Federal Government to guard the pipelines. He burnt illegal refineries, razed boats and these people are not happy. He has been a partner to the government all this while, that is why we called for a political solution to the matter.” • “We call on President Buhari not to be deceived by a few pipelines surveillance contract seekers. • “It may interest you to know that Tompolo is a strong member of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, even in defeat. Unlike some elements of the party from our region that are bread and butter members. • Tompolo alleged that the APC- led government persuaded him to decamp to its fold. The party until date, did not refute his assertion. • “Suddenly, the EFCC froze the bank account of Global West Vessels Limited. The management of the company initiated an action against EFCC in court. The agency bluntly refused to file a defence, only for the agency to file charges against him in another Federal High Court. The question we will like to ask is: Is Tompolo the chief executive or the Managing Director of Global West Vessels Limited? Assuming, for the purpose of argument, that Global Vessels Limited committed financial crime, is Tompolo the alter ego of the company? The EFCC invitation and subsequent harassment and persecution of Tompolo goes beyond what meets the eye.” |
aare07:Tell that to BOKO HARAM and the retinue of suicide bombers at its beck and call |
aariwa:God bless you jo! Mubi is the focus here, not the suya or the Governor. Someone I know called me from Mubi last week and the picture he painted of this ancient town was heartbreaking. Boko Haram has messed up the whole town. Hundreds of houses were left devastated. At a point, Mubi was a killing field with bodies littering the entire streets. Burial squads were so overwhelmed that at a point the government had to take to aerial spraying of chemicals by helicopter to disinfect the place. Now I understand that normalcy is returning to the town. And that is what the Governor may be trying to paint here through his visit and suya expedition. |
OgbeifunErom:Drinking Panadol on top another person headache...OgbeifunErom, no forget say you no be Yoruba man o! And good upbringing would not permit anyone to call an 80 year-old "Agbaya." |

Nairalanders, show some love this New Year. Please, let us contribute to this thread, specifically meant for our brave soldiers who are out there in the Harmattan cold facing Boko Haram insurgents. Say something encouraging and heartwarming to these warriors and their families, to whom we owe the peace we enjoy in most parts of the country. Happy New Year Nairalanders! cc: lalasticlala, pls help push

Realdeals:THE CONSTITUTION IS CLEAR ABOUT THIS SITUATION. IF INDEED AUDU (APC) IS FINALLY DECLARED WINNER, THEN THE FOLLOWING WILL APPLY AS CONTAINED IN CHAPTER IV SECTION 181 SUBSECTION (1): "If a person duly elected as Governor dies before taking and subscribing the Oath of Allegiance and oath of office, or is unable for any reason whatsoever to be sworn in, the person elected with him as Deputy governor shall be sworn in as Governor and he shall nominate a new Deputy-Governor who shall be appointed by the Governor with the approval of a simple majority of the House of Assembly of the State." |
OrlandoOwoh:Yes. And reply Lai must; but with decorum, decency and diplomacy. Lai is no longer APC spokesman. But he is now the voice of the Government and People of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And such speech as he fired against Fayose, in the international arena, can win enemies for Nigeria and actually trigger an international war. The Minister of Information clearly needs to clean up his act, and imbibe a completely new communication culture. |
henchamb:I am trying to see the logic in this ya post, but sorry, mate, I can't find it!

IYANGBALI:U this IYANGBALI sef, you be man abi na woman? |
What many Nigerians will find most disheartening in this new cabinet is the ceding, yet again, of the Federal Capital Ministry to an individual from the North (in fact, two individuals, with the Minister of State also coming from the North, although the Christian North). Wetin happen now? If Abuja is the symbol of our national unity, why should the North monopolise its administration? Why can it not be run by someone of Southern extraction for once? Does it not begin to send the message that in Abuja, Northerners are born to rule there? Here is the list of those who have run the FCT in the past (note that only the pioneer head came from the South, the South-West to be specific). 1. Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun 1976-1979 2. John Jatau Kadiya 1979-1982 3. Iro Abubakar Dan Musa 1982 1983-1983 4. Haliru Dantoro 1983-1984 5. Mamman Jiya Vatsa 1984-1985 6. Hamza Abdullahi 1986-1989 7. Gado Nasko 1989-1993 8. Jeremiah Timbut Useni 1993-1998 9. Mamman Kontagora 1998-1999 10. Ibrahim Bunu 1999-2001 11. Mohammed Abba Gana 2001-2003 12. Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai 2003-2007 13. Aliyu Modibbo Umar 2007-2008 14. size40:Every electoral case puts INEC on trial, so it is only logical for INEC to defend itself. Furthermore, INEC is usually joined as a Co-Defendant in these suits. And when a Tribunal overturns an election, it is an indictment on INEC, hence, INEC must take such a case PERSONALLY as it were. And in the case of Rivers State and many of these judicial victories being turned over to APC, all discerning people need to hearken to the voice of INEC. What many of this tribunals are doing amounts to judicial abracadara and it is dangerous for our democracy. The question we should be asking is: Are these tribunals saying that ALL votes scored by APC are holy and sanctified? Apparently, INEC (the experts in this case) is saying these votes alloted to PDP are indeed holy, sanctified, free, fair and reflective of the will of the local people. |
All 224 people aboard a Russian airliner were killed early Saturday when the Airbus A-321 crashed in Egypt's Sinai peninsula shortly after takeoff from a popular Red Sea resort town, officials say. The Metrojet flight, carrying 217 passengers and seven crew members, was en route from Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt to St. Petersburg when it dropped off radar screens 23 minutes into the flight. It is believed to be the deadliest air accident in the history of Russian aviation, surpassing a 1985 disaster in Uzbekistan in which 200 people died, the Russian-run news agency RIA says. "Unfortunately, all passengers of flight 7K9268 Sharm el-Sheikh-Petersburg were killed," The Russian embassy in Cairo said, in Russian, on Twitter. "We express our condolences to the family and friends." Egyptian officials said the 7-person crew and 214 of the passengers and all of the crew were Russian and that three of the passengers were Ukrainian, RT.com reports. The victims included 17 children, aged 2 to 17, according to Russian authorities. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/russian-plane-crash-in-egypt-kills-all-224-people-aboard/ar-BBmEcki?li=AAa0dzB&ocid=LENDHP

HERE IS A PRESS STATEMENT POSTED TO MEDIA HOUSES TODAY BY DR. FREDERICK FASEHUN Founder and President of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Dr. Frederick Fasehun, has sent a congratulatory message to the Giesi Ruling House and the people of Ile-Ife over the emergence of Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi as the Ooni-Elect. Fasehun, who holds the chieftaincy title of “Ataalase Oodua” in Ile-Ife, promised that OPC would stand solidly behind the 51st Ooni, and assured him of his and the organisation’s unflinching support. In a press statement circulated in Lagos today, Fasehun said the rancour-free emergence of the monarch, from the many eligible aspirants, showed that the Yoruba were a great people who cherished their cultural heritage. The Ooni-Elect, Prince Ogunwusi, hails from the Giesi Ruling House in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun State. Wishing the Ooni a long and successful reign, Fasehun said in Yoruba: “Kabiyesi o, ki ade o pe l’ori, ki bata pe l’ese.” Describing the Ooni-Elect as the God-appointed custodian of Ile-Ife, the cradle of Yoruba life and civilisation, Fasehun, who is also the National Chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), urged him to lead the struggle for Yoruba unity. “Ten successor kings would usher in ten different eras, but Ooni Ogunwusi must bring himself to build on the solid foundation of peace, dignity and development that his predecessors have laid for Oodua sons and daughters within Nigeria and in the Diaspora,” he said. The OPC Founder especially eulogised the background of the Ooni-Elect as a successful Businessman and Philanthropist, saying, these qualities must be marshalled for the positive development of Ife and Yoruba people. Fasehun urged the Ooni to forge a united front with other Yoruba monarchs in order to protect Yoruba interests within the Nigeria project. “Ooni Ogunwusi is taking the throne at a challenging period in Nigeria’s socio-economic life, and he must lend his voice and his experience as a humane philanthropist and a successful entrepreneur to pushing for the development of Nigeria and the welfare of our people,” Fasehun said. JUST SAW THIS POSTING ON MY FACEBOOK ACCOUNT. IT GIVES FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Arise O' Sleeping Youth of Nigeria!!! Awolowo was (37), Akintola (36), Ahmadu Bello (36), Effiong (36), Balewa (34) and Okotie-Eboh (27), Enahoro (27) led the struggle for independence after the death of Macaulay. Only Zik was 42 at the time. In 1966, the first coup was led by: Kaduna Nzeogwu (29) and countered by Murtala Mohammed (28), Theophilus Danjuma (28), Babangida (25), Nanven Garba (23), Sani Abacha (23), Shehu Musa Yaradua (23), and brought into power Gowon (32), Ojukwu (33), Obasanjo (29), Buhari (24). Under 30s were also not in short supply with appointments, we have examples of MT Mbu who became foreign affairs minister at 23 and Pat Utomi who became a presidential adviser at 27 and so on and so forth. NOW: Why is it that this age bracket is today still sleeping in 3 seater chairs in their parents’ homes? Why is it that this age bracket is today still collecting pocket money from their parents? Why is it that this age bracket is today still writing JAMB? Why is it that this age bracket is today still sagging their trousers? |
I just read the story posted by naijasinglegirl which reignited a question I have always itched to ask on Nairaland. Naijasinglegirl said she dropped her “TOASTER” when she spied him failing to clean up after he used the toilet in the bush. Talking about post-toilet hygiene, which is the better way to go, water or tissue paper? Which one do you prefer? Personally, I am: Team Water + Soap

PRESS STATEMENT Founder of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Dr. Frederick Fasehun, has called for the immediate release of his birthday mate, Chief Olu Falae, kidnapped on Monday in Akure, Ondo State. Born on September 21 like Falae, a visibly agitated Fasehun, who turned Octogenarian yesterday, said in Lagos yesterday that he had ordered OPC operatives to immediately launch a manhunt, combing all nooks and crannies of Ondo State and beyond, for the kidnapped politician. Fasehun described the kidnap as an assault and insult on the Yoruba people, and challenged security operatives and agencies to produce Falae within 48 hours. The OPC Founder immediately summoned all members in the country to attend an emergency meeting on Sunday. DR. FREDERICK FASEHUN FOUNDER/PRESIDENT, OODUA PEOPLE’S CONGRESS (OPC) |
