PoliticsAgbaje Demands Release Of Sun Director’s Wife' It Is Affront On Press Freedom by JKisOK(op): 6:55am On Sep 17, 2015
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate for Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has called on captors to immediately release Mrs. Toyin Nwosu, wife of the Executive Director of the Sun Newspapers.
Mrs. Nwosu was picked up from her Ago Okota, Lagos resident, on Monday, and her abductors have posted a ransom of N100 million.
Police authorities have described them as robbers.
While urging the police to leave no stone unturned in the search for the abducted lady, Agbaje prayed for a swift and happy ending to the travail of Mrs. Nwosu and her family.
Agbaje, in a press statement by his Director of Media and Publicity, Felix Oboagwina, urged Mrs. Nwosu’s abductors to grant her immediately liberty.
According to him, her kidnapping was an error, and an exercise in futility and ingratitude.
Agbaje decried the spate of kidnappings visited in recent times on members of the Press and their families, saying it came from the erroneous belief by misinformed criminals that the visibility of journalists translated to prosperity for pen-pushers.
“In the society, journalism is a powerful profession, and practitioners are rendering a significant service of information management. But to suppose that this transmits the average journalists into a wealthy person comes from a warped imagination,” he said. “And then to submit them and their families to this nightmare of kidnapping for ransom is most uncharitable to a group of professionals who toil day and night to make the society a better place.”
He further frowned at the kidnapping of journalists and their families, describing it as a terrorist act, designed to infringe on the Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Information.
“Kidnapping must not be a brand new hazard of the job for journalists and their families,” he said.
Agbaje, who recalled that a Columnist with Vanguard, Mrs. Donu Kogbara, was released at the weekend after being kidnapped for two weeks in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, described the trend as worrisome.
“Journalists and the Press have been in the forefront of the quest for a just, equitable and developed society, and to repay them this way is, to say the least, most uncharitable,” he said.
He called on the government to make the practice of kidnapping less attractive through providing employment for youths and applying the necessary sanctions on apprehended criminals and their collaborators.
However, Agbaje urged the Press to refuse to be intimidated, saying, the unhealthy trend would soon dissipate when perpetrators realised they were not dealing with rich moneybags.

PoliticsAgbaje Congratulates, Commiserates With Muslims by JKisOK(op): 8:07pm On Jul 19, 2015
Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful conclusion of the Ramadan Fast, asking them to continue to work and pray for peace to reign in Nigeria.
He also commiserated with Muslims over worshippers who lost their lives in suicide bombings on Ramadan eve in Gombe State and on Ramadan day in Damaturu, Yobe State.
Agbaje expressed these sentiments in a press statement issued today in Lagos by his Director of Media and Publicity, Felix Oboagwina.
Commending Muslims for trooping out to celebrate the end of the fast, the PDP Governorship Candidate said the nationwide celebration of Ramadan underscored the fact that Nigerians cherished and guarded jealously their fundamental freedoms, including Freedom of Worship.
According to him, it was significant that the security challenges bedevilling the country failed to douse the zeal to celebrate Ramadan.
Agbaje noted that worshippers willingly subjected themselves to bodily searches before being admitted into prayer grounds, and prayed that insurgency and terrorism would soon be a thing of the past in the country.
“Nigerians of whatever faith are no terrorists, and terrorism is not in our character. We must collectively banish this evil from our land through all spiritual and physical means necessary,” he said, adding, “The traditional nomenclature of Islam is peace, and we pray that soon and very soon, Muslims and all Nigerians of other faiths will be able to worship in peace.”
Agbaje encouraged them not to lose the lessons of the fasting period, which he said included the virtues of sacrifice, righteousness and honesty.
“The Ramadan fast draws Muslims close to Allah. But worshippers must go in the strength of this significant pillar of the Islamic faith to live in harmony with their neighbours as well as impact positively on wherever they occupy,” Agbaje said.
According to him, Nigerians must form a rainbow coalition in the fight against terrorism.
His words: “One inalienable and fundamental truth is that Nigerians want to live together in peace, therefore, we must forge a common front, that includes every decent and God-fearing person, in the fight to defeat terrorists and terrorism and win back the land of peace Nigeria has always been known to be.”

12TH JULY 2015
PRESS RELEASE
UPN DISOWNS OKUWA, RECONFIRMS FASEHUN AS NATIONAL CHAIRMAN
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) has disowned Professor Bankole Okuwa, currently parading himself as its National Chairman, with the organisation’s leaders describing him as a “joker.”
In a statement by the pioneer and current UPN Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Honourable Adeoye Jolaosho, the party said Dr. Frederick Fasehun, the pioneer leader, remained the National Chairman of the party.
“By virtue of the first UPN National Convention held at the Yard 158 Events Centre, Oregun, Lagos, last January 9, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, the pioneer National Chairman of the party, was returned to the position,” said Jolaosho.
He said the election of Fasehun as well as other members of the National Executive Council (NEC) complied with Article II Section 7(2) of the party’s constitution, which stipulates that: “The National Convention shall elect the... National Officers of the Party each of whom shall hold office for a maximum of four years or for such other lesser duration as the National Convention may fix but shall be eligible for re-election,”
Disowning Okuwa, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary said: “We have never seen this pretender, the so-called Professor Okuwa, the supposed new National Chairman at any UPN meeting,” he said. “He has never been registered as a member of the party, talk more of being a member of our national executive, talk more of tagging him National Chairman.”
According to the UPN Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Professor Okuwa was a total stranger to the party, was liable to be prosecuted for impersonation and should stop parading himself as an officer of the party.
Jolaosho traced the genesis of Okuwa’s claim to the same forces that rose against the resuscitation of the UPN in 2013.
According to him, it was clear that Okuwa was another phase in the fight by those threatened by UPN’s emergence, especially in the South-West.
“This is the equivalent of a civilian coup attempt, but it is a failed coup attempt. It is dead on arrival,” he said. “It is a great shame that a whole Professor should reduce himself to the position of a stooge and a puppet, to be controlled by moneybags and politicians whose sole interest is the destabilising of the party.”
Jolaosho also chided Okuwa for tagging Fasehun a rascal.
“It is the height of disrespect for anyone in this country to call a renowned elder statesman like Dr. Fasehun a rascal. It shows disrespect and lack of proper upbringing,” he said. “The truth is that after the likes of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Moshood Abiola, Chief Adekunle Ajasin, no one can push aside Dr. Fasehun (with all his flaws) for the sacrifices he has made for the dignity of Yoruba people and for Nigeria as a whole. None of his critics can lay claim to his level of personal, economic and political sacrifice,” he said. “This freedom fighter founded the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), and he and the group fought for the enthronement of the democracy we enjoy today in Nigeria.”
According to him, it would be the height of ingratitude to attempt to rubbish Fasehun,
“In UPN we often consider it a privilege to have such a historical figure at the helm of affairs,” he said. “He is a qualitative and dignified persona who has invested his personal resources and vision to position the party as one of the leading political voices in the country.”
Furthermore, Jolaosho punctured Okuwa’s claim that INEC was present at the illegal National Convention that produced him, saying it held no water.
“We have it on good authority that INEC was not in any way represented at the illegal programme,” he said.
In contrast, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary said that the National Convention held in Lagos last January strictly complied with the UPN constitution’s provisions.

On a more serious note....Obama did not legalize gay marriage.

What happened was that some years ago, two gay men who lived in the US state of Ohio(which at the time did not recognize gay marriage)...got married in the State of Maryland (which did).

When one of the men died back home in Ohio...his husband applied to be listed on the death certificate as his spouse.

The State refused...hence Oberfegell vs Kasich(at the lower courts) and v Hodges (at the Supreme). (Oberfegell is the husband of the dead man, Kasich is the governor of Ohio State.Hodges is the Director of the Ohio Dept of Health..a position analogous to our States Commissioner for Health in Nigeria)..

The Supreme Court...in a majority decision...found that the American Constitution's intent is to provide every American with dignity...hence if gay marriage helped provide that dignity.....then gay marriage is legal under the Constitution.(That is a rough way of looking at it.A nearly similar decision was made in 1973 by the then Supremes legalizing abortion....Roe vs Wade.).

Hence...gay marriage is now legal. Obama did nothing(though he obviously is not opposed). If he was opposed...there is nothing he can do...save propose an amendment to the Constitution making gay marriage illegal.....which is a long and complex process...and which may not succeed.

PoliticsUnassailable Facts About Pipeline Vandalism by JKisOK(op): 12:35pm On Jun 16, 2015
Many of us live in blissful ignorance about pipeline vandals. But let us share a few facts about this nefarious and unpatriotic but booming business and NNPC's innovative programme to curb their crime.

1. Pipeline vandalism is one major reason why the refineries will not work, you pump finished products from the refineries and it leaks through compromised pipelines into the waiting vessels of pipeline vandals

2. Pipeline vandalism is a thriving business, costing the country over N150.5 billion in eight years from 2000 to 2007.

3. It revolves around a cartel that has in its fold the rank and file of the Police, the Army, the Navy and other security agencies. Also involved are unscrupulous officials of the NNPC, PPMC and DPR, and also marketers.

4. These security officers and petroleum officials are settled with over 60 percent of what is derived in this illicit business.

5. NNPC actually suggested that the government set up a parallel security force, constituted by private security organisations, but made up of patriotic Nigerians having personnel with the right untainted "no-nonsense" attitude

6. NNPC sold this fact and President Goodluck Jonathan bought into it.

7. NNPC and PPMC have come under attack and lost personnel, including engineers, while trying to repair pipelines damaged by the vandals.

8. These militants, in the last three months, have seized over 20 tankers and other equipment used by pipeline vandals.

9. Several militants have lost their lives in this patriotic duty.

10. The presence of these militants has been a nightmare for pipelines vandals in the last three months.

11. These private security agencies have made more impact in the war against the pipeline vandals in the last three months than the formal security agencies.

12. What government is paying these private guards is pittance compared to what the country stands to gain in revenue (and lose to vandals)

13. Pipeline vandalism is the reason petroleum tankers come to Lagos to ferry fuel from the Atlas Cove to upcountry consumers, and their presence in Lagos is a major cause of the traffic challenge in the city.

14. Pipeline vandalism is one major reason for the sustenance of the subsidy regime.

15. Pipeline vandalism is the reason Nigeria imports fuel and pump price of fuel is this costly.

16. Curb pipeline vandalism, and you will get the refineries working and pumping fuel to local depots, which will stop importation, and which will make fuel prices to fall.

17. NNPC is pleased about the efficiency and the result produced by the involvement of these parallel private pipeline protectors.
18. Only blind politics, those harvesting free money from the sustenance of the illegal subsidy regime and those benefiting from pipeline vandalism, will make the new government scrap this private security arrangement, which stands as a great legacy policy of the Jonathan government.

PoliticsAgbaje Commends Buhari, Jonathan, Lagosians by JKisOK(op): 12:11pm On Apr 02, 2015
2ND APRIL 2015
PRESS RELEASE
AGBAJE COMMENDS BUHARI, JONATHAN, LAGOSIANS
Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has praised President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari for displaying true sportsmanship and statesmanship in the presidential election.
Agbaje also commended Lagosians for voting massively for PDP in the presidential, Senatorial and House of Representatives elections.
In a statement by Felix Oboagwina, Director of Media and Publicity to Mr. Jimi Agbaje, the PDP Governorship Candidate commended President Jonathan for placing the nation ahead of personal and party interests by conceding defeat to Buhari.
“Many in Nigeria and the international community had feared that 2015 would witness post-election violence and explosion in the nation,” he said. “But the pre-election and post-election disposition of these competing candidates has defused the tension and frustrated all evil prognoses.”
According to him, the two had shown themselves as true nationalists.
Agbaje described President Jonathan as a man of history, being not only the first incumbent leader to concede defeat to the opposition, but one of the few African leaders who did not have the sit-tight or do-or-die attitude to politics.
Congratulating Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their victory, Agbaje prayed that their reign would usher in peace and prosperity to every part of Nigeria.
He said that by the result of the polls in Lagos, Lagosians had demonstrated that they were ready for change in the state.
According to him, PDP’s commendable performance at the three elections came about as a synergy between indigenes and non-indigenes.
“The results were a victory for democracy in Lagos State,” he said. “It marked the end of the era of a one-party state in Lagos. Now that other parties have broken the monopoly of the ruling party, Lagosians can look forward to deriving the full benefits of democracy. No longer will anyone or any party take Lagosians for a ride.”
Agbaje also congratulated Federal legislators emerging from the elections, saying, they must remember that they owed their victory to the people and they should be ready to serve the electorate.
He urged Lagosians to hold firmly to their resolve to produce change at the April 11 governorship and state house of assembly polls.
However, Agbaje urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to solve the several headaches that bedevilled the polls, including, lateness of polling staff at duty posts, malfunctioning card readers and the unholy alliance between officials and APC.
“INEC owes Nigerians the duty to deliver free, fair and credible elections and the Commission must do everything humanly possible to check and avoid failure,” he said.

FELIX OBOAGWINA
DIRECTOR OF MEDIA AND PUBLICITY TO MR. JIMI AGBAJE, PDP GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE FOR LAGOS STATE

PoliticsI Joined Pdp December 2011, Agbaje On Suit Seeking His Disqualification by JKisOK(op): 9:34am On Nov 28, 2014
Foremost Lagos governorship aspirant in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has dismissed as “political mudslinging” a suit seeking his disqualification from contesting the primaries on the basis that he only became a member in July 2014.
Agbaje said that by December this year, he would have clocked three years as a member of PDP, contrary to Mr. Nurudeen Balogun’s submission before a Lagos High Court.
A fellow PDP governorship aspirant, Balogun had filed a suit with the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State High Court, seeking to prevent the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting Agbaje as an aspirant or a candidate of the party.
According to the suit, Agbaje had neither spent the required two years to be eligible for the contest nor had he received the party’s waiver for the supposed deficiency.
However, speaking through Felix Oboagwina, his Director of Media and Publicity, Agbaje submitted that the insinuations motivating the court case held no water because he joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as far back as December 2011.
His words: “There is no truth to the allegation. No truth at all. He is not correct.”
According to him, those in doubt of his registration date should check the PDP register in Ward B, Apapa, Lagos, where he was listed as a member of the party.
Going by his registration date, Agbaje has crossed all hurdles for contestants in PDP, whose constitution in Section 50(9) stipulates that aspirants must be card-carrying members of the party for a minimum of two years.
Agbaje said: “For the sake of clarity, I joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in December 2011. In line with the party’s constitution, I joined at the ward level. I registered as a member of the party in my ward of residence, WARD B, APAPA, LAGOS. The register is there for checking, if anybody is interested in checking.
“The same person who sent the petition to the party is the same that went to court. Native wisdom should have guided him to the fact that if the party did not dignify his earlier allegation with a response, then it is clear that his petition lacks merit. And the party consolidated its position by going ahead to screen me and to issue me with a Clearance Certificate.
“He and his paymasters should know that politics has moved beyond the point of people just creating problem where there is no problem and crying WOLF unnecessarily. Clearly, the petitioner just wants to throw mud unnecessarily. They want to sink into the quagmire of political mudslinging. But we shall not sink into those depths with them.
“Moreover, people should appreciate that there is provision for waiver for those who joined less than two years to the time of filing interest and conducting the primaries. To the best of my knowledge, the waiver is granted freely.”
According to the statement by Oboagwina, in 2011 no less a person than former Vice President Atiku Abubakar secured a waiver to run for the presidency.
Oboagwina also pointed out that most recently, waivers were granted to Chief Uzor Kalu in Abia State, as well as Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu, who crossed over from the All Progressives Congress (APC), on whose platform he contested the presidential election in 2011.
“However, in my own case, the issue of asking for a waiver never arose and does not arise,” Agbaje said.
Reacting to the allegation, the Director-General of Jimi Agbaje’s campaign and former Commissioner for Housing in Lagos State, Alhaji Rahman Owokoniran, described the court case as pointless and the litigant as a joker.
“The party should be in a position to determine the eligibility of its aspirants. And even where a waiver was necessary, the fact of Mr. Jimi Agbaje being issued a clearance certificate could be regarded as a waiver in itself. But the joker obviously does not come from the same ward as Mr. Jimi Agbaje. How can he then know Agbaje’s status?” Owokoniran said.
