Hey, in this situation it is better she apply alone; if approved, then she can apply for her husband. She will use the husband as a home tie, just like in the case of China; she is not yet employed. So this greatly increases approval chances. juliusocean: hey guys i am trying to get your thoughts on this...A student that studied in china for 4 years (nursing) recently graduated moved back to Nigeria (2026) and wants to do a masters in Public Health in Canada, is it advisable for her to apply with spouse? Also how can she strengthen her application (Home-ties) citing the fact that she has been away for 4 years, is this a red flag? |

She can submit her SP. If she gets the approval, then all of them will enter Canada with the VV, and she can apply for SP for them. ehiremen2002: Seems their visitor visa expires sometime in August 2026. If they are to leave July would that be an issue ?
They will have less than 2months or less left on visitor visa. The other option is adding them to the mum visitor visa, but that would make the application a bit complicated student visa with accompanying 5 dependants |

When they enter Canada, after some weeks they can apply for study permit not at the port of entry. ehiremen2002: I got this from old post of successful application. Abit old hope it can as well help in my Aunty and her friend application. As I plan to guide them through the process.

We are gathering documentation to apply next week. The husband will not join in applying just the 2boys and my aunt.

Her friend also plan to come with her family, she has 2biological kids (15years and 12years) + 1 step son ( that already applied for stdent visa separately) + 2 adopted kids ( 5years and 8years) . the beuty with her friend application was that they all secured visit visa last year. And her biological kids visit visa would expired August because that was when the passport expires while the 2 adopted kids also has visa expiratio for around August. The step son visa expires in 2028, while her visitor visa was 10years. She plan to resume studies in August. They ask me for my opinion and I tol them I will try check from my guru friend in a forum.
For teh minor kids, should the join the mother apply for studies permit or they shouldnt , just travel with the mum and ask at point of entry they plan to study elementary sand high school. Any thought house.

Since you are in can, you should factor in the charges for a caregiver. More importantly, you will need to prove the source of the funds, not just to have it in your account. b4biodun: Do you think the $16000 balance can be used for them i.e $4000* 3= $12000 and $4000 for caregiver and miscellaneous expenses.
Yes, an autorized consent letter from their dad will be submitted as well and also as a co-sponsor |

Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by JMG12: 8:39am On Mar 02 |
As earlier stated, you need to add their dad as a co-sponsor, and also obtain their authorized consent for them. You also need to factor in the caregiver fee based on your work schedule in your POF. You need to submit an account statement for yourself, not a letter. Work on the POF submitted from Nigeria. Each person will need like $4,000CAD per year, multiply that's $12,000 already for them for a year, with caregiver charges and other miscellaneous expenses. b4biodun: Reasons for the refusal of your application To help you understand why your application was refused, below are the Officer Decision Notes (ODN) specific to your application as they are displayed in IRCC’s system. These notes were entered by the officer who assessed and made the final decision on your application. • I have reviewed the application. The purpose of the applicant'svisit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details provided in the application. Applicant is a minor travelling to Canada with only one parent. They have not provided a signed declaration of consent and passport from the non-accompanying parent. The applicant's assets and financial situation are insufficient to support the stated purpose of travel for the applicant (and any accompanying family member(s), if applicable). The applicant is a minor who has applied for a study permit to join parent in Canada on a work permit until 2027-05-17. Applicant's expenses to be covered by their parents. Inviter parent has provided a bank letter that confirms account balances captured on the date of letter issue. Transaction history for these accounts, demonstrating the flow of funds, has not been included. Nigeria bank statement shows routinely low funds. Employment letter indicates that the sponsor parent works between 24-44 hours weekly depending on available shifts. Inconsistent schedule noted. Based on the documentation provided, I am not satisfied that the sponsors have provided sufficient evidence of their unhindered access to a stable source of funds to support their dependents and themselves during their proposed stay in Canada. Based on the financial documents submitted, I am not satisfied that the applicant has sufficient funds to pay for living expenses for the proposed studies. Weighing the factors in this application, I am not satisfied that the applicant will depart Canada at the end of the period authorized for their stay. For the reasons above, I have refused this application. |

What you should do is add a sponsor, maybe the dad or a close family member, and proof of relationship. You will need consent from the dad too because they are still minors. b4biodun: 1. The 15 & 13 years old are meant to be enrolled in Government high school (which are tuition free) and the 10years in an elementary school
2. Tuition free because they are minors
3. Average of $5800 per month
4. Yes, I am |

Congratulations to your aunt on her admission. Traveling with 2 minors while the husband remains in Nigeria is not a ground for refusal; however, there are some concerns. 1. How will she balance school + childcare while studying? 2. Is there family support in Canada? 3. Enough finances to cover the entire family Once his wife and kids are in Canada, his ties to Nigeria weaken in the officer's eyes. To prove his must show very strong home ties. She and the kids can apply while the husband applies to visit later. She will need a consent letter from her husband. ehiremen2002: Hello Any help here

Hello dear, Based on what you shared, about your sister, 1. The estimated POF you calculated was accurate. Ensure you explain the 24M deposit because that fund might still be perceived as being for demonstration purposes. 2. Yes, it is convincing, but the VO has the final judgment. 3. Yes, upfront medicals are still allowed. 4. She can use any of the platforms. 5. When filling out the eligibility questionnaire, there is a point where you will be asked if work is important to your study. Please kindly indicate "YES." All the best. labasulla: Good people of God,
I need all the support and responses I can get please and thank you.
My lil sis have 2.2 in Business Education, she had initially applied for a visit visa in 2024 and was denied Jan 2025. Currently, she gained admission to study Disability Profession at Saskpoly she have some certification from Alison on this course as well. Currently, working at a clinic as part time support worker
Tuition fee :CAD 20,400 Deposit of CAD 5,300 made
Tuition Balance: CAD 15,100 Living Expenses: CAD 22,895 Misc expenses : CAD 3,000
Total : CAD 40,995 x N998 = N40,913,010 using oanda rate as of today.
Question 1) This is what we need as proof of funds, right?
She has a business and personnal account with sum of N16m Our elder sis has been catering for her since our mom passed away, she made the tuition deposit for her, and she wants to send her about N24m to her account this is going to be a lump sum but we will back it up with letter and affidavit (deed of gift), reason is we don't want the VO to think she doesn't have access to the fund.
My elder sister will also be providing her personnal and business account which will show how the payment was made to her account
Question 2) Does all of these looking convincing?
Question 3) Are upfront medical still required for study permit?
Question 4) Does she need to use GCKEY for study permit or she can use the new portal she used when she applied for visit visa?
Question 5) Study permit and Coop work permit, how do we apply for this together?
Reason for last rejection - Financial grounds - No enough funds on her own. Then it was elder's sister account mainly.
Home tie -
a) Business in Nigeria, - CAC, proof of invoice, tax clearance b) Her current part time job, career advancement after completion of school c) In charge of Mom's house d) Fiance in Nigeria e) Father in Nigeria f) Siblings, Nephews g) providing affidavit of return
Thanks. |

It is sad after putting such effort to analyze her profile, and you already resolved it will go through, and then you get the most devastating news. Ways to prove strong home ties: add her employment letter, payslip, study leave letter, and recommendation. If she is working with her mom in the school, make it a family business and prove that she has been actively part of the school, because for someone who has not been a part of the business to suddenly want to take over is a red flag. Include a relationship if she has one; explain how excited she would be to return for marriage. Include a letter or board resolution of the new appointment to take over the business, which will be contingent on her return, and you can notarize it. All the best. NgumimiT: Hi Family! it’s good to see the thread still waxing strong and helping so many get positive results.
this thread was incredibly valuable to me in ‘22 when i was applying as a student and i’ve referred many friends here who have also revived their visas and are now in Canada so i’ve been a silent member for years lol.
I now have a question i feel like the gurus here would have the best answers to. a friend applied with what was seemingly an airtight application but received a rejection this morning and she is distraught.
i guess she overproved financial backing in canada, her brother is a citizen, paid her fees in full, opened a GIC with living expenses and she would be staying with him during her studies but her reason for rejection is that her ties to canada are too strong and they’re not convinced she would be returning home after her studies.
so now my question is, how can she prove stronger ties to nigeria? the rest of the family is in nigeria and her original application stated she would be returning to take over their parents school so i’m wondering how else can she prove this? she provided documents like CAC and the like, would it help to have the parents will the school to her? we are totally confused on next steps and would appreciate any insights
thank you all so much |

Looking at your situation here is my advice: 1. Your educational and professional backgrounds are different; however, you are to continue your career path based on your professional background; that's where you have career progression. 2. You can apply for a college postgraduate diploma for a 2-year program or a 1-year postgraduate certificate program; you should know the difference is in the postgraduation work permit. 3. You can apply for any of the 2, but you should know a 2-year program qualifies you for a 3-year PGWP, while a 1-year program qualifies you for a 1-year PGWP. Othankz: Good day everyone,
I’d really appreciate advice from experienced members regarding my Canadian study application, as the process is quite confusing and I don’t want to waste my resources.
Here’s my background
-B.Sc. Economics (2:2), graduated in 2018
-Over 5 years of work experience as a Data Analyst, and more recently as a DevOps Engineer (IT)
-Previously denied US visa 4 times (mainly due to funding and home ties (the generic 214B denial))
Based on my academic result, cost of attendance a friend and an agent advised that I apply to a college diploma program instead since most Canadian universities may not consider my application.
My questions are:
1.Given my education and work experience, what programs would be the best fit for me in Canada, as agent keep suggesting I apply to programs like supply chain management/Accounting but my interest is on IT related programs?
2.Is applying for a college diploma after already having a B.Sc. likely to be an issue during the study visa application? 3.Would a PG certificate/ PG diploma be a stronger option than a regular diploma? I genuinely want to do this the right way and avoid unnecessary losses. Any guidance, school recommendations, or personal experiences will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance. |

1. You can use a different account to ensure it meets the requirement. If you are sending myBankStatement ensure the account holder's name and number are on it before instructing your bank to send it. 2. Yes, you can use a new passport without explaining what happened to the old one, except there are some discrepancies. Teeore: Hi, I have couple of questions. Got a denial last year and the reason in the denial note was “ Bank statements provided does not name the account holder and account number” The account statement was gotten from the bank app and did not have name and account number on it.

Check the University of Alberta and University of Saskatchewan. champeeon: Thank you for your response. I've combed through the websites of several schools that offer graduate admission for Agricultural Economics courses. While I took most of the prerequisite courses, there is one particular course that keeps showing up on all the schools I've checked.
I have a good result which I believe could help me to secure funding to some extent. But my fear is that some schools list on their website that you will have to take a "Qualifying Year Program" rather than taking "prerequisite courses".
One of them even stated in their handbook that "Qualifying graduate students are not eligible for major scholarships or fellowships, ..."
This is why I asked the question whether there is anyone here who switched from FISHERIES to AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS, because that's what I really want to go for. |

Yes. Applicants from related science and agricultural backgrounds (such as those in fisheries, aquaculture, environmental science, or agriculture) are frequently accepted into graduate programs in agricultural economics at Canadian universities, particularly if they can show that they have the necessary academic background or are willing to take prerequisite courses. champeeon: Good day everyone. How can the money part not be an issue? You submitted 2 different sponsors without submitting your own account. Your sponsor can not use all their money in their account to sponsor you; secondly, should your sponsor's money cease how will your pay your bills and tuition. When reapplying ensure you have 80% of the funds available to you and the balance in your sponsor's account. Also, prove the relationship affidavit is not a genuine document to document to prove the relationship. kiiiingggggg99: Sop Writer or anyone please I need your help on this. The VO was right your application lacks a source of funds; the only source you showed was the land sold. 1. How did you or your sponsor earn the 26,500 CAD for the full tuition you paid? 2. How did you or your sponsor earn the money you invested in GIC? Based on what you shared, there is no adequate source (you or your sponsor's earnings) of funds for you or your sponsor. Try to address this if you have not done it in your previous application. All the best. Crane1: Can anyone help me understand the reason for these two denail.
First Attempt
1. Paid 15,000 out of 26,500 tuition fee 2. Mother is the sponsor, with her personal account where she has lump sum 3. GIC fully funded Outcome: VISA was denied, reason being that success of fund is not reliable.
Second Attempt with decision made 29th of December.
1. Full 26,500 paid, later discovered the school offer a new 7000+ scholarship 2. GIC still fully funded 3. To address fund issues, mum gave gift of land, with deed of land and Affidavit, land sold, and money paid in different installments. All this was submitted with bank details showing transactions trails, still outcome
VISA denied
What is the problem, should the door be closed to CANADA?
Any advice? |

Me: Yes I studied in Cyprus CBSA: What did you study there? Me: Medicine CBSA: That's good. Why did you decide to pursue Biotechnology in Canada then? Me: I decided I want to go into clinical diagnostics and Pharma in Nigeria after completing my studies in Canada CBSA: Okay. This passport has a lot of pages is this the new Nigerian passport? Me: Yes the new ones valid for 10 years have many pages than the old ones they used to issue CBSA: Okay wait here for a moment CBSA: Here is your study permit read the conditions and confirm your name and birth date. Check your permit expiry date. If you need to extended your study permit do so two months in advance before expiry. Let me know if you have any questions. Me: Okay I have read it and all is accurate and I don't have questions. CBSA: Alright let me stamp your passport and you can be on your way
This is the most grilling experience I have had for a visa haha. Funny thing is the two Asian students in front of me they didn't ask any of them any questions and they just handed them their study permit after seeing their acceptance letter pal and intro letter only.
Hope this can guide anyone that is approved for study on what to bring and questions CBSA may ask you. Good luck. |

POF = total tuition fee for the duration of your program + living expenses for the duration of your program + miscellaneous (3,000 - 5,000 CAD). You can't pay the tuition fee from your account, as there is a restriction on the Nigerian account. You can contact allianceprime on Instagram; they can assist with your payment. I use them always. Yes, you can use a different account ensure you have the required funds reserved in your account. Folorunsho12345: Good morning house please how much proof of fund can / shld I provide for only me I want to do a masters program (14 months) Also can I pay for the tution fee with my own account and use diff account for proof of fund Thanks |

You do a second 1yr program OkoyeIfechukwu: Hello everyone,
Please, I need your guidance. I’m already in Canada with a study permit for a one-year program starting in January 2026. Please, for those who also came with a one-year program, how did you plan your stay so that you could qualify for a longer PGWP after school? I just want to understand how people in this situation usually handle it and the best way to go about it.
Thank you. |
