Please note, these two schools are in the same province.

Your mother must apply for her study permit, and she must meet all the requirements independently, including the acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), proof of financial support, and other supporting documents.

I think you are considering your mother to be your dependent

A study permit holder's spouse or common-law partner, as well as dependant children, are often permitted to accompany them to Canada. They can apply for open work permits, study permits, or visitor visas, however, this does not consist of parents.

This is a long read, but I am being as detailed as possible, because I know how helpful it was, reading other detailed accounts, here.
We are a family of 6, but only 4 members of the family were on the application, as the other 2 are American citizens.

Me – Study permit for a Master's degree
Husband – SOWP
1st Child – Study permit for an Undergraduate degree
2nd Child – Study permit for High School

Application Timeline
Upfront Medical – April 5th 2024
Submission – May 16th 2024
Biometrics for Me and First Child - May 20th 2024. Updated on portal, same day.
Second Child was exempted from giving biometric information.
My husband’s BIL was not sent same time as ours. I also noticed that he had no UCI. I sent a webform about both issues, on the morning of May 29th and he received his BIL that same night. His profile also got assigned a UCI.
Biometrics for Husband – May 30th. Updated on portal same day.
Medical updated to passed for everyone: June 15th
Applications denied - June 15th.
Reason: Your assets and financial situation are insufficient to support the stated purpose of travel for yourself (and any accompanying family member(s), if applicable.
I applied for GCMS notes minutes after I got the email, but I suspected that the reason for the denial was because my school fees were not paid. I figured that the lack of significant commitment to the school could have been the reason, as there was more than enough money, with clear sources, to cover everyone on the application. I was happy that the reason for the denial was only financial, so I figured that doing more to show financial commitment would help. So, I made some adjustments to our applications and reapplied on June 25th, without receiving the GCMS notes.
The notes finally came on July 23rd and I saw that there wasn’t confidence that, despite the robust finances, my school fees and our living expenses would be sorted. So, my guess, about the reason for refusal, was accurate.
Application Timeline
Submission – June 25th 2024 with Biometrics updated immediately for Me and First Child.
Husband’s UCI and Biometrics updated – July 3rd 2024
PPR for everyone – July 25th 2024


Letters of Explanation
My LOE explained the educational and career progressions that led me to the particular Master’s degree. It also explained why I wanted to be with my family during that journey. I mentioned that the 2 Americans would also be travelling with me, so POF was for 6 people. Documents were attached to show that claims of education and profession were accurate. WES verifications and IELTS results were included in these. I also mentioned an extensive travel history and haven never defaulted on any visas.

My husband’s Reason for Travel, detailed his career and qualifications and explained that he does not have any immediate plans to resign his job and move to Canada, for the duration of my studies. The application for the SOWP was to take advantage of any solid opportunities, for work, that may come up for him, in Canada, while I am there, as this would enable us all be together. His extensive travel history was mentioned, as well as non default on any previous visas.
In his LOE, documents were attached that proved the accuracy of the claims on his Reason for Travel. WES verifications and IELTS results were included in these.

My first child’s LOE explained that studying in Canada was so she could get the kind of education that would make her secondary goals easier to attain. She got into a competitive course, in one of Canada’s highly ranked schools and it is a precursor to her intended second degree and subsequent career. The LOE delved into that.

As the principal applicant in a Master’s degree, I did not require a PAL, so I answered “no” to that question. As a result, there was no special place to attach my daughter’s. To make sure it was not missed, I merged it with her offer letter and uploaded together. I also did the same with her LOE before uploading. So, her PAL was uploaded as a part of two separate attachments.
She is a minor, but did not require the Custodian Declaration form, as I would be there with her. We would be attending the same school in September, as well, albeit different faculties.

I did not include any LOE for my 2nd child. I only filled his forms, including the optional one that applied for a TRV.

Proof Of Funds for 6
- First year fees were fully paid for 1st child’s undergraduate degree. Receipts of a little over 35k CAD, from the school, were submitted for both applications.
- For the first application, I submitted only the receipt for my acceptance deposit. The school did not require that I pay more than that and because the money was in an investment account, I did not want to pull it out. For the second application, my Master’s degree was fully paid for, with funds from another account, not submitted. The receipt of a little over 65k CAD, from the school, was submitted, which detailed both payments.
- I submitted the Investment Advice letter received from CIBC, for a GIC of 50k CAD, in my name. I did this only during the second application.
- A USD investment account, co-owned by me and my husband, with funds that can be moved within 48 hours. This was the most significant POF, so the statement of account was from inception of the account and ran for over 4 years, to make it clear that the funds had been available for a long time and that there were no sudden deposits that inflated the figures. All the deposits, into the account, within the last year, were quite significant. So, I made sure to explain them, with proof of sources of fund. A reference letter was attached from the investment house, to back up the SOA. At the time of the second application, the money was less, as the money for the GIC came from this account. I explained that it took just 48 hours to conclude that transaction and that there was no fear about a subsequent withdrawal not being as fast. This account had almost 65k USD left in it, after the GIC payment.
- Statement of account for my husband’s USD account, in a Nigerian bank, for a period of over a year. There had been no transactions in that account for five months, hence the need to show something more comprehensive.
- My husband’s pension fund statement of account, that showed that he could access 25% of the funds, if unemployed for 4 months. That 25% was a significant amount, hence my reason to attach this SOA.
- For the first application, I did not include any of my personal accounts, as fees had been paid from there, so there were a lot of transactions on them that I didn’t want to bother with explaining. For the second application, I included a six-month account statement of my Bank of America account and explained sources of funds in that account.
*** I also mentioned that I would be selling a car, in my name, as soon as the visa came out, in order to buy another in Canada. I included the documents of that car and gave an estimate of the expected sale value. However, I did not include this value while providing a total for the POF.
*** Since the first year of my child’s fees had been fully paid and all of mine were fully paid, the funds in all the accounts and the GIC covered:
- Required POF for 6, for a year, as seen on IRCC website.
- Funds for return tickets. I attached screenshots of one-way ticket prices for the six of us, from KLM, for our intended travel date and simply multiplied it by 2.
- Second year fees for 1st child’s undergraduate degree.
- More than the required funds for a second year of required POF for a family of 6.

Home Ties
- Our home, with recent valuation documents, in both our names, included.
- I mentioned my aged mum and told a story around her current circumstances.
- Car documents (not the one I had mentioned that would be sold) Whether, that was important or not, I have no clue.
- My husband’s job role is very significant and his LOA stated that he had no intention of resigning from that. He stated that if searched and he didn’t get a job similar to what he currently had, he wouldn’t be moving to Canada.

Because I was applying for the SOWP, I was able to use the IRCC Secure Account (GCKey) to apply and was able to upload documents up to 4MB.
I used the website ilovepdf to merge and sometimes, compress my merged documents.

I would say that the most significant part of this experience for me, was knowing that this was what God wanted for us, so I was willing to do my part in bringing that to life. So, besides dotting all your i's and crossing all your t’s, commit it all to God and at the right time, it would happen, if He wills it.
However you can, show significant financial commitment to the process.
No matter what stories you tell in your Letters of Explanation, provide verifiable documents to back them up.

*Room and board is the living expenses, some schools state the living expenses on the LOA while some don't. If your school didn't state it then you should use the IRCC standard.

*Funds available is what you have reserved for your temporary stay, or your closing balance it should include the deficit left and the living expenses with miscellaneous fund.

People tend to avoid certificate and non-degree courses when applying for a US student visa for several reasons:

Use tuition for two years, often a two-year budget is highly recommended.

When you see a comment or description on gcms note, you will have no choice than to submit everything about you.

I think you are mixing things up ...

..if someone can submit genuine documentation of properties, landed properties, building C of O etc in a visa application....
Then what is source of funds!! That you cannot submit;
whoever submits the documents you listed is doing so at their own will to show their asset as home-ties or proof of fund for intended travel purpose as stipulated in the IRCC visa application procedural guideline and policy which is obtained on their website or you request for it via the Access to information privacy ATIP. This is different from a VO poking nosing into the source of income inflow of a sponsor (mind you the sponsor is not the visa applicant and shouldn't be under any privacy scrutiny. Even they (IRCC) will always inform you that you are not oblige or mandated to disclose your personal information under the privacy law act of Canada except if requested, so why are they acting against their own policy, is it because the applicants are from third-world countries?


They are Temporary residents they are supposed return to the country of origin..when visa expires, VO needs to make sure they are what they claimed on visa applications..otherwise refusals on tie to country of origin doesn't make any sence!
Nobody dispute that, but VO has always been 99.9% wrong about their "assumption or intent" of making sure these temporary resident visa applicants return home when their visa expires as record as shown a sizeable number never return home.

You can show a pension statement just proof that he still earns from the govt.

You need to correct the error this name implies that the account is for someone else. You should be able to make the correct in the bank.

On my BVN my name is arranged such that the middle name is in place of my surname , and that is what is shown on my bank statement and probably my police report . On my passport and educational documents the arrangement is correct .The spellings are all correct though . Can this have any issues at canada embassy ?

Yes, someone shared a GCMS note with me, the person submitted his dad's employment details and a reference letter from the bank stating that he is a signatory to the dad's account, the VO refused the SP and mistook the account for the PA, stated that the PA didn't submit employment documents, income tax, ownership of bank document on file. These people do as it pleases them.

The officer is being stupid, most of the temporary resident visa officer dont follow IRCC procedural guideline and policy that guides them on what criteria they should considered while rejecting or granting visa application. They act on applicant's visa application, mostly especially for people from our continent, with disdain.

There is no where in IRCC guidelines where it is stated that a sponsor must show their source of income flow aside presenting the bank statement or other acceptable proof of fund for the visa application. It is all due to our oversabi, they have now taken it as a norm to act beyond their jurisdiction looking for what is not lost to deny visas.

Imagine a VO rejecting a visa application because sponsor didnt want to show his salary account in accordance to the freedom of protected personal information privacy act of Canada, even though the sponsor clearly demonstrated their income via their other bank statement alongside with their employment letter, payslip, reference letter from employer which is also one of the govt agency in Canada. The slowpoke VO denied a visa because "sponsor refuse to show their "source" of PoF fund which is the sponsor's salary account bank statement" ignoring their own IRCC procedural guideline and policy which states:


"...A temporary resident visa application will not be refused just because the host’s personal information is not provided with the application... "_

That is good, but you have no proof of how your dad earned the 45M that has been in his account for the past 2 months, or the source of his finance.

Thank you for your response, my dad actually sold one of his properties. The payment was made in tranches. 10,10 and 15m for three days. I included the sales agreement when submitting my application. How else can I prove the property was actually sold. The 45m has been in his account for the past 2 months now and I’m planning to reapply ending of the month. Should I ask him to send the money to my own account and do an affidavit then maybe I can get the Mybankstatement thing? Your input will be highly appreciated

No this won't be an issue on the day of your interview, you should mention that to the interviewer about the program and the one on the i-20.

That wasn't the problem you had multiple lump sum unexplained and probably didn't back it up with documents and your sponsor's source of funds probably was not documented or convincing enough, if you want to reapply kindly explain the lump sum and proof the source of funds of your sponsor.

Hello house please I just got my Gcms notes today and I’m confused, the offer quoted my first year tution to be 44,302 instead of 21,096. I don’t know if that was because while filling my application I wrote 44,302 as total tuition for both years. Was I supposed to only include tuition for first year while doing the application? That’s a picture of the tution breakdown I from my school and the gcms note.

Absolutely it can be done, when one is invite you cancel the other application.

My sister is acting as my sponsor, but couldn't pay my fees directly from her bank because of poor bank network for international payments, so she transferred the money to my account as my bank network was seamless.
My question is this, is it proper?
And also, the money was transferred in batches since the online transfer has limit of transaction for a day, so she transferred it in bits in 3 different days.
If this is of no concern, do I need to explain this large sum in my account when writing my SOP?

Yes, if there is a significant relationship such as a close friendship or employment, you must convince the VO of the relationship and reason for sponsorship.

Yes, you can apply for VV for your wife while the kids depend on their age, infant VV above infancy is SP.
You will need to explain the lump sum in the account, also if you are using your company acct then you will have to attach TCC with proof of ownership.

Check their refund policy, most schools refund based on visa denial.

Please I want a clarification about this, I am a student of Conestega college to resume by September 3rd and I have been given Visa. But since college student can’t bring their spouse. I am thinking of changing my school to a university which will allow me bring my spouse.
But the issue is, I have already paid first semester tuition fee at Conestoga which is about 10k cad.
Now, my question is if I eventually get an admision with a university. Will Conestoga refund my money?

What the school does is send applications to various supervisors, so the supervisors pick at random the ones they want to work leaving the other rejected or sent to different supervisors, if they can get a supervisor for you it means no one was willing to work with you based on your topic or your application wasn't selected. Your topic should align with the research work of the faculty members it will be easy for you to get a supervisor, and establishing a connection with a supervisor also works better and faster. But getting them to respond to your message is something you need to keep trying, so the earlier you begin the better for you.

Hello guys so i posted few days ago about not getting a reply back from the school i applied to for a phd programme after about 10 weeks in. They got back to me and said that they couldnt grant admission because there were no available supervisors. Now i am left wondering what really the case is whether its with alignment with my proposed phd topic or maybe they are extremely busy which i am unsure of given there are many potential supervisors on the faculty page of the school. When i messaged them they said that if i plan to reapply that it may be better to establish connection with a supervisor before application. This was infact the exact same thing i thought having read other peoples stories . however in the initial phase of my applicaiton process i emailed them that i had actually sent a mail to potential supervisors but ddnt get a reply from the 3 professors i mailed . They replied with an email saying that it wasnt necessary to email professors that the school themselves can do the connection with potential supervisors once my application was in their system. So i am the point where i am deciding my options for the next available term which is september 2025, i plan to reapply there and to other places . But for this school that i really hope to get into i am guessing one needs to hope for the best in establishing connection with a potential supervisor but then one isnt too sure whether the real issue with no supervior available currently, is really a matter of my topic area or not . Because knowing that would have helped to decide if i need to modify it or not. Any advice would be highly appreciated

You did not show enough documents to prove the source of funds invested. that is where the problem lies.

I got denied last year and I scheduled another appointment that was approved early this year…I didn’t get a date yet though but then my I-20 expired and I had to get a new one and another DS-160. I’ve not been able to schedule appointment since then. It’s just saying there are no appointments available at this time and my resumption date is August 4, is there anything I can do…Thank you. Give more details about your application, this can happen when the VO has doubts about your intention to leave Canada after the end of your program, also can you spot the documents that weren't authentic, you may want to work on that and submit authentic documents, work on your finance. You can order your GCMS notes before considering reapplying.
