Lol... Nothing equates to trophies, so that comparison doesn't match. But if they're to lose any match between the two, Even the players will know losing against tottenham is not an option.

Moreover, I'm not personally talking about me but the domestic fans who carry it personal and which in turn create the tension for the players to find themselves in such situation. They're the one that creates the atmosphere for that rivalry to thrive

See Richarlison, he 'hates' Liverpool. On many occasions he had tried infuriating them their fans and even on pitch. He even joked about it that it's because of the culture and how Evertonian fans have dislike for Liverpool fans.

Me and you residing in Nigeria ( or any part of the world not England) might not know the full impact on that rivalry because we are faraway, but the players and fans knows how hot and heated it's always before the match. I've not, if you have show me please. Those two teams have fierceness amongst them both in players and fans whenever they meet each other.

In fact it's difficult for them to sell players between each other. It goes deep than you think.

As for the question, it's the history, the environment and the domestic fans(especially both fans in that region). That is the rivalry.

I'm an arsenal fan and I know what a Derby means. Arsenal fans especially in England will prefer for Chelsea to beat us or even Fulham but never ever tottenham. Same thing with tottenham. No matter the poor form we have, never ever tottenham.
I follow football, their fans and also their forums(esp the int'l club fora) and if you do, you'll know that the way you're underestimating Liverpool -Everton rivalry no suppose be so. Same way it is for Madrid/athletico rivalry. It might not be worldwide but within them and the domestic fans and players, they take very very personal

And also there's difference between derby and rivalries. Nothing concern rivalry with arsenal and west ham or Fulham even though they're all London clubs

This is where the club management especially the Psychologist comes in. He can even use the event as a drive for more focus and more achievements. What he needs is love and trust from the club and teammates, especially if the allegation is not adding up. He will not be the 1st star player to be accused of rape. Even Ronaldo had same allegation on his neck for years.

Guess who won the league that same season proper? Real Madrid.
While athletico finished a distant 3rd.

Meanwhile as the season progressed and they met, athletico didn't win real Madrid home and away neither did they even score a goal that same season

I personally don't watch preseason games. In fact, there's no such thing as rivalry in a preseason game. It's the main reason why goals scored there are not counted as career goals and trophies won are not acknowledged by the club. Even points does not count

It's amazing how Una youths dey suffer because of lack of faith in them esp the Midfielders . I know I've once asked why haven't Ole used youth Midfielders or given them chance esp as you guys lacked depth in that. Well, with Ten Haag now, I think some boys might get their shine

I see this win as a confidence booster for the youth boys as they'll be hopeful that their time to get squad roles is alive. If only teams can start looking inwards for squad depth for a possible first team action instead of buying scraps for massive price that most of the youth teamers are even better than
