Okay just different leagues different styles. It's not like when countries meet, gra gra always wins.

You are being sarcastic be objective.

The observation is that Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim would struggle with the pace, physicality and intensity of the Championship.

Your reference to the Scottish premier League leaves me baffled what's the relevance.

Balogun was in Bundesliga 2 when we first started showing him interest. They come like that and we like it. Akpoguma welcome back. Our radar now set on you.

komekn:
I do not think an official approach has been made. Or when he starts playing for an EPL teams we will then rush in

I intend to see him at the weekend.

I was comparing Uduokhai and Akpoguma to him and in my opinion he is better. It's possible the slow pace and lack of intensity of the Bundesliga doesn't allow you to really see defenders tested to the extreme.

As a result I may not haven't seen them at thier best.

My view just going on the performance of Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg both of these teams would struggle in the Championship definitely not on the EPL level.

Aston Villa Are Prepared To Break The Bank To Sign OnomahAston Villa have been impressed with the performance of England U20 World Cup-winning midfielder of Nigerian descent Josh Onomah, and are interested in the permanent acquisition of the player.

Onomah was loaned out by Tottenham Hotspur for the entirety of the season in the summer transfer window as manager Mauricio Pochettino wanted him to continue his development after helping the Young Lions with the U20 World Cup in South Korea.

The 20-year-old earned Steve Bruce's praise after his man of the match performance against Fulham on Saturday.

''Josh Onomah was terrific today. We’ll try and break the bank for him!'' Steve Bruce told Birmingham Mail

''But we know Spurs have got a very good player there.''

Onomah has been involved in 14 competitive matches since completing his loan move to Aston Villa.

The Londoner is one of the young English-born players on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Currently watching Wolfsburg v Hoffenheim noticed we have Uduokhai in left back position for Wolfsburg.

Is Uduokhai better than Echiejile is the question ❓

It's difficult to assess of he is faster than Echiejile because the game is not fast it's more technical. But I'm watching with biased eyes as some may wish to believe.

Possibly true. Wish him the best all the same.. He is Nigerian

I really do see a semblance of Guardiola in him. They both love the attacking play. They both are authoritarian. They both love a compact unit. They both prefer to work with players they can impose their ideologies on, and for which they are not afraid to rock the boat by chasing away the influential players of the team who do not fit their approach to coaching. Which is not necessarily a bad thing since at the end of the day, what matters is the result, especially if gotten in a manner that brings about the most financial rewards to the club.

He will feature in the champions league someday soon.

All this dem say arguments, you hardly learn anything.. we keep arguing in circles. The MRI is a standard. It is here to stay. Any player who passes the test is within the age range. If you can't provide their original certificate to disprove it, just beat it.

Modified
We who are suppose to be repairing our image with the MRI science, are tearing ourselves down and trying to make claims about players who are most likely actually within the range. it's pathetic. Some of us will go all lengths to attempt to prove these players are all age cheats if we are paid.

Sunday Oliseh bringing excitement back to Fortuna Sittard

https://i1.wp.com/owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/image-61.jpg?resize=696%2C464

Imagine that you are in charge of a club struggling at the foot of the Dutch second division when Sunday Oliseh calls to inform you that he is available for the vacant coaching position. Fortuna Sittard's technical director, Charly Chudik, was surprised to hear the voice of the former Nigerian star late last December. The team seemed to be in a disastrous state in 18th place. Why would such a famous person be interested? And why would he get in touch instead of sending his agent, as it is usually done?

The answer is simple -- Oliseh really wanted the job.

"I received various offers after resigning from the Nigerian national team," he said in an interview with ELF Voetbal magazine. "A top club from South Africa, a club from Portugal and numerous national football federations approached me, but I wasn't interested. Family is the most important thing to me. I wanted to go to a place that would make me happy. Sittard is just 45 minutes by car from my home."

Married to a Belgian, Oliseh lives in Eupen, and that is where he took his first job as a technical director in 2007, but left after six months because he didn't like working in the office. His first coaching experience followed at tiny Verviers in the Belgian third division, but then Oliseh became a pundit, and only came back to the dugout when Nigeria offered him the post in 2015. It was a short and very eventful affair, with Oliseh eventually choosing to quit over allegedly unpaid wages and return to his natural surroundings.
Sittard, situated in Limburg close to the Belgian border, are a proud club of interesting heritage. They may have only won two cup trophies more than half a century ago, but spent long seasons in the Eredivisie and nurtured a number of quality players, including the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder Mark van Bommel.

However, Fortuna were not fortunate at all following relegation in 2001, and went close to bankruptcy at least three times. Turkish businessman Isitan Gun took over in the summer of 2016 and saved them.
"Without Gun, Fortuna wouldn't have been around these days. He brought stability to the club and appointed new people to the board," De Gelderlander journalist Robert Husken tells ESPN FC.

The 2016-17 season was tough in the extreme, though, and coach Ben van Dael was fired following a terrible run of just one point from nine matches. Oliseh was waiting for that opportunity to offer himself, and the club got a coach they could never have dreamt of.

During his illustrious playing career the Nigerian took part in two World Cup tournaments, scoring a majestic goal against Spain in 1994, won the gold medal at the 1996 Olympics, won the title in the Netherlands with Ajax, and represented Juventus and Borussia Dortmund as well.

Now, as the first black African coach ever in the Netherlands, he has had to deal with a different situation. Fortuna played in front of empty stands in recent years, but Oliseh changed the atmosphere around the club almost immediately. He got off to a winning start at the magnificently named Achilles'29, and proceeded to get some outstanding results. The 5-2 win over Ajax reserves, having trailed 2-0 at half-time, was especially memorable and fans started to flow back to the stadium. Sittard only lost five times in the second round under the new coach and finished the season well above the relegation zone.

Not all the reports were positive. Oliseh's spell with the national team was marred by conflicts with senior players, most notably the popular goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, who was stripped of captaincy and forced into international retirement. Curiously, that was the case at Fortuna, too, as veteran captain Ferry de Regt left the club in the summer, having fallen out with the Nigerian. Assistant coach Tini Ruijs and goalkeeping coach Patrick Creemers left too, unable to work under Oliseh.

In an editorial published in June, De Limburger journalist Patrick Delait accused Oliseh of installing authoritarian regime.

"He behaves like a governor, and nobody dares to contradict him," he wrote. "By constantly sharpening internal relationships, the Nigerian is becoming a ticking bomb. He looks sympathetic on TV, but behind the scenes he is a wolf in sheep's clothing."

So far, those pessimistic expectations haven't come true. On the contrary, Oliseh has made a phenomenal start to the season, winning five games out of seven, and only losing once. Following the 6-0 triumph at previously unbeaten Telstar last Friday, the biggest away win in club history, Fortuna are second in the table behind Jong Ajax, and technically lead the race because the Amsterdam side are ineligible for promotion.

That is not the only record broken by Oliseh, either. Taking the previous season into account, Fortuna are on an unprecedented run of eight home wins in a row.
And the first goal at Telstar was scored by 17-year-old sensation Perr Schuurs, the youngest captain in club history. Born in November 1999, he was given the armband in the summer by Oliseh, who explained: "If you are good enough, you are old enough." There is little doubt that Schuurs is a huge talent -- he was invited to train with Liverpool in the summer, while Ajax and PSV Eindhoven reportedly made offers to sign him.

Oliseh certainly enjoys working with youngsters much more. Out went the likes of De Regt and 33-year-old striker Sjoerd Ars; in came exciting prospects like Portuguese duo Andre Vidigal, 19, and 21-year-old Lisandro Semedo. They are ably supported by two more 21-year-olds: Finn Stokkers and Djibril Dianessy.

Having laid solid defensive foundations, Oliseh is letting his team play an attacking brand of football, with 21 goals scored so far. Talking to ESPN FC, Delait now admits: "Oliseh is a good motivator who is very strict with his tactics. Fortuna play as a unit under him."

Husken added: "Sunday is a no-nonsense coach who is very clear on what he expects from his players. Having such a star on the bench makes a massive influence on the team."

Few pundits expect Fortuna to keep running and gain promotion, but the youngsters are starting to dream big.

"The spirit of the squad is truly incredible. I have to calm the players at times, because everyone is so hungry," Oliseh told AD recently.

The turnaround had been phenomenal already and the Nigerian is making a name for himself as a coach. But the club will be wary, lest he be lured away from his home in Eupen after his contract at Sittard ends next summer. If he can gain promotion, though, managing such a tight knit team in the Eredivisie could bring some surprising results.

Right, the likes of Ndidi were probably within the age bracket considering the margin of error.

If it happened to Obinna it could have happened to SOME others who failed it.

There is a cylindrical plate in the wrist of U17 players. How The hell will citrus fruits put that plate when it is not there? Na wa.

I believe some of our players who failed it were within the age bracket but due to the strictness of the scan, where a player younger can fail but a player older can not pass to a high degree accuracy, the young ones who failed might be within the age bracket.

The only reason Maduabuchi Obinwa's case raised dust was because he was American born. If he was Nigerian, no one will care.

Smh this is really bad bad bad view. Players that have failed the test were not told to take lots of citrus. Muazam and co. Lots of players have always been caught and removed from the team.. Really negative of us. We need to rise above this, And start speaking with facts and not assumptions.

komekn:
This is a very straightforward road to us Nigerians but one we deny doesn't exist in public. That is to say every Nigerian player will lie about his age.

The only players that you can truly without any doubt believe thier ages. Are those that were born in places where there is automatic data capture at birth.

In this regard Nigeria is not. However, I must say that although it cannot be stopped the era where people would shade 7/8 even 11/12 years of thier ages has ended. I believe players at most can shave of no more than 5 years currently.

Now we have players with very untraceable names that makes it impossible to ascertain thier heritage and or ages.

Do I believe Efe Ambrose age, no I do not, do I believe Balogun yes I do. If Balogun was born in Nigeria he would be no more than 23.

It was random but there was already a scandal leading to that tournament. And we changed coaches 3 times.

the testing was random.. but do you tell FIFA the players you want tested? As a coach would you risk Chukwudi picked at random?

I've clarified that erroneous view that all players got tested at the U17 world cup after 2009 edition. Even at the 2013 world cup players were still tested at random

I think many of us who want to go with scientific facts will defend any player that SUPPOSEDLY went through MRI testing. Onazi is one of them.
FIFA introduced random testing at Nigeria 2009 U17 World Cup. I am 100% sure that no coach will risk us being caught at the tournament proper. Hence, Onazi must have been tested prior to the tournament. Remember that quite a number of the players had failed the test prior to the the games, and coach John Obuh assembled a whole new team. People made the argument that the captain of the team the, Fortune Chukwudi was overaged, but that's still a claim like yours. Everybody seem to be neighbors of all our Golden Eaglet players.. Now, whats your own story?

Odegbami: World Cup Funds – Why No NFF President Has Ever Won A Second Term!

October 21, 2017 9:31 pm

Kayode Thomas is a very well known Nigerian journalist, irrepressible, courageous and hard working. Through the years, I have followed his career from a distance. His candour is remarkable, frank to a fault and down to earth. He is not one whose views can be easily discarded or disregarded. He sticks to his viewpoint like a leach, irritating the hell out of whoever is on the receiving side of his argument.

A few days ago, he stirred the hornet’s nest. He authored a public letter to the President of the Senate of the National Assembly, Senator Bukola Saraki. That letter is creating waves of reaction all over.

Specifically, in his letter, he demanded that the Senate President dismiss a request purportedly made by the Minister of Sports to the senate for urgent appropriation of funds to enable the ministry, or the NFF (I am not sure who the funds were meant to go to), start early preparation of the Super Eagles for the 2018 World Cup.

I cannot confirm that such a request was made but considering the state of the country and the present government’s focus on eradicating corruption within the country’s body polity, no one should be surprised that alarm bells are ringing with another World Cup around the corner. The four-yearly event has been a cesspool of corrupt practices since Nigeria started going to the global fiesta in 1994.

Every Nigerian knows that it is a jamboree for everyone, except the actual participants and those that attend outside government sponsorship. Even the players, seeing that they are been used as cannon fodder for this ugly practice that is so obvious to every living Nigerian, have been forced to join in the unprecedented sharing of ‘free’ money from government that could have been better used to develop Nigerian football to the greatest heights.

I cannot reproduce Kayode Thomas’ letter here for obvious reasons. He used some pretty harsh words. His most scathing is that the request for any funds from government is a scam!

He then went on to say that the profligacy of the past must be stopped, and that the change mantra of the present government for which he worked hard to put in place must also take effect in Nigerian sports.
The question now is this: Is the request truly a scam? What really are the facts? Why is the issue of funding not simple and clear enough for all to understand?

The NFF is supposed to be a non-governmental, private organization, according to the statutes of FIFA. But here in Nigeria, there is a concerted effort to install the NFF as an agency of government by law. The bill is before the national assembly moving slowly and dangerously to fruition one day soon.

FIFA tries to support and help the federations to sustain independence by funding the entirety of their participation in FIFA’s most important and lucrative event that rakes in unprecedented income for the global organization. FIFA provides basic funds and logistic support for every participating country that can take care of their preparation, participation and even much more beyond the championship. Mark the word ‘basic’.

The federations also know that the World Cup gives them an opportunity to do business, big business, with companies falling over each other to pay for association with their national teams.

Every federation is at liberty to do any extras on their own steam. They can choose to go to the moon for training. They can bring along to the event their entire population. They can do as they wish.

So, why should government come into the matter at all?
That is the question begging for an answer.
The reality is that here in Nigeria, government has always provided all the funds even since 1994!
The NFF draws up a budget through the sports ministry. The funds are often appropriated to them after a little threat by players and pressure from the gullible public for funds to prepare the Eagles. The federation adds these to the funds from FIFA and other sources, and, thereafter embarks on a mind-boggling spending spree.

Often there is a whole army of people – politicians, officials of the ministry, wives, girlfriends, family members, supporters, business associates and so on, that attend the World Cup as a holiday of a life time, all expenses paid for and no accounts ever rendered to government because the NFF is ‘non-governmental’. Can you believe it?

I read one of the several reactions to Kayode’s claims. It came from a gentleman whose views on Nigerian sports cannot be disregarded. He knows the story of Nigerian football and sports as a whole inside out!

Chief Jibade Fashina-Thomas, Uncle Jabby is one of the last members of the visionaries that drove Nigerian sport in its most glorious days in the 1970s, under the leadership of late Isaac Akioye. He was a brilliant and most respected journalist before he became the first spokesman of the then National Sports Commission,

This is a lightly edited excerpt from his published response.

‘Oh, Kayode, what a patriotic Thomas thou art! You have brazenly hit the nail hard on the head not caring whose ox is gored. Your letter to the Senate President is a clarion call and a crusade against barefaced corruption.

You see, requesting for funds to prepare teams for international competitions like the World Cup football championship is an old game in the Sports Ministry. The government is blackmailed into coughing out millions of US dollars for euphemistically preparing the national team, whose members are mostly in active professional competitions in foreign countries.

Meanwhile, FIFA adheres to its policy and sends funds to all participating countries to prepare their teams. The NFA, or whatever it is now called, has never accounted for such bailouts. The Sports Ministry is aware of the FIFA subventions but goes ahead to use the football championship to rake in its own loot from an unsuspecting (?) government. And nobody has questioned the Sports Ministry how the taxpayers’ money was “spended” (apologies, Solomon Dalung).

If you think the two NASS committees on Sports do not know what is going on, then you are making a ‘mugu’ of yourself. They lie in waiting with their forks and knives sharpened for their own slices of the cake before the whole loot is ‘spended’. It is an orchestrated racket, an age-long scam.

Finally, our paths may not have crossed, Kayode, but I know enough about you through reputation. A million letters will not stop the NASS from approving Dalung’s request, regardless of the faulty procedure, but hundreds of sports loving Nigerians can….by picketing the National Assembly.
So, it is time you don your tracksuits and get ready for that march. We must not allow Dalung’s move to go unchallenged’.

So, this is the reality. No country can claim not to have enough basic funds from FIFA to attend the World Cup.
The players know this too, and despite collecting all approved bonuses from government, rightfully demand a separate share of the grant from FIFA.

So since 1994, they have been collecting about 50 percent of the total sum granted from FIFA and sharing amongst themselves.
The NFF collects the balance and uses to fund the lavish lifestyles of its leadership.

It is for these funds that no President of the NFF can return for a second term. It is for these funds that the NFF can never be granted the autonomy and independence FIFA statutorily demands for a federation to become its member. It is for these funds that the NFF, which should be a completely private body, will soon be inserted into the laws of our country, contrary to FIFA rules, and made a government agency to be funded by government.
