gbam tbaba1234: Thanks, this is a great interview.
It gives you the mindset of the average kid born abroad to Nigerian parents. They hear all these terrible stories about Nigeria. I have some cousins here, who have not been to 9ja since they were babies. Their impression of 9ja is mostly negative.
Sometimes, it takes the parent to convince them that it is not that bad. Iwobi is better for that decision, today.
Whilst some parent are actively discouraging their kids (Ojokojo), Iwobi's dad support was crucial. |

By now you should have figured out that he's that proverbial horse.. The links and points I gave him were crystal clear. Mujtahida: You'll just be arguing for argument sake. Hear you:Iwobi NEVER wanted to play for England as if you were in his mind. Having played through the ranks of the youth teams in England you think he never fancied his chances with the Three Lions? And why was he reluctant (according to his father) to come to Nigeria upon his invitation. And where did he say he NEVER wanted to play for England? Any source? |

Joker means unpredictable in this context. Rohr had already highlighted Moses' ability to play multiple roles (Something I've said here several times) Mujtahida: That's exactly what I understood about the joker thing oo |

Humility017: the truth is rohr is more of a man manager than being technically gifted...so I don't expect him coming up with such changes as seen above....
he is a coach I see to have earn the respect of the players over a short space of time... Aina performance against Algeria will go tell if he will definitely be rohr first choice as far as the LB is concerned.....also for now I see shehu as one that will get to feature in that match....for ebuehi maybe in one of the friendlies he will get to play... to be honest the young lad ruin his chances...I really believe he would have get to play against Algeria in uyo had it been he snubbed Nigeria at first... then shehu had not lay hold on the RB slotid you remember...ndidi played that role against Zambia...
I just pray the coach loosen up on his conservative approach to football prior the World cup...because Nigeria really have the squad to shock the World...come next year.
for our CBs back up....rather than keep hopping over our German born players...why don't we go for tomori...of Chelsea in hull city for loan...I doubt that lad will ever reject SE considering Aina factor..

leave that matter.. i've given him enough links.. "you can take a horse to the river but you can't force it to drink" Mujtahida: Please I am not in the habit of making misguided and uninformed statements to the extent that you'd scream that what I wrote - thus :Iwobi chose to play for nigeria because England stopped calling - is a big fat lie
I wrote that based on an article posted by Joebie from the guardian.uk and here's the quote that specifically informed my assertion and pay attention to the bolded: “He should be playing for England,” Wenger said in January , and he did for a while. Iwobi made seven appearances for England’s under-16s, three for the under-17s and one at under-18 level and, by all accounts, was happily embedded in the setup. But then the invitations stopped “He played for the England youth teams for a while but when it came to the under-19s, they didn’t pick him,” Wenger said last weekend, wearing an expression that made it absolutely clear what he thought about it. And now it is too late.
Am I still lying? |

already commented -- "fine idea". Modified And I mean Aina and Ebuehi swapping roles.. For me that would determine who can play RB or LB better. Or if one can play both roles better. Mujtahida: True that. Modern Football calls for such dynamism now ooo. That's why this cliché that you never change a winning team is one which has to be re-examined cos I feel the team has to be set up in accordance with the type of opponent one has to face, the personnel at one's disposal. Rohr stuck to the cliché and it nearly cost us cos Zambia and Cameroun don't play same kind of football. Yet I am not mindful of the pitfalls of always changing things but again that's what modern Football thrives on. Icon4s what do you say? Joebie. Humility017 |

Iwobi had an affinity to both countries. I'm sure he has no iota of regrets now choosing Nigeria. As regards Tammy he never turned down Nigeria.. so no room for all that "rethink", "u-turn" remarks solonnachi: Whether Iwobi wanted playing for Nigeria or not, he is now a full fledged Nigerian football international.
It seems Tammy Abraham is having a rethink. E never see anything. He must chop bench for England |

Let me get to your point.. Let me help you. I would have loved to = that was my intention but... I love to = I still want to play for England But analyzing that line ("I would have love to" ) alone, he is saying it is normal that one would love to progress up the ranks after playing for the junior teams.. Analyzing his later remarks, it shows he was convinced to go the other direction -- play for Nigeria.. What does that tell you? jotey: I would have loved to

lol.. I just jump to the quotes and try to read between the line. Which is why I was not deceived as regards the Tammy brouhaha lol Mujtahida: This guys are real spinsters - they just put a spin on everything. The headline wasn't what Rohr said. But this is how they(the news outlet) came to their conclusion: Echiejile and Aina play the LB for Nigeria. Echiejile is injured, therefore Aina gets his full debut. Nothing wrong to draw deductions and make projections but they'd spin it like that what the coach said. And that's whack. No wonder Rohr says he doesn't read Nigerian news outlets and that's not good for us too. He needs to read them so that he'd know what we are thinking, heck he can even get insight on how to go about making success with the team. But with such blatant falsehoods, half truths and misinformation passing as news, I don't blame him.

To your points: 1. Yes, especially with players that have minimal or no connection with Nigeria. with those that have strong connections with Nigeria, it ONLY becomes a tough decision when the other country expresses interest as well. 2. Same as above, but both players cases are quite different from several other cases, because there were no interest from the other country at the time that they made up their mind. England made a last ditch effort for Iwobi after Iwobi had made up his mind. And I don't think Balogun was under Germany's consideration (I stand to be corrected) 3. For me they are Nigerians as well. They still have to be good enough to make the team. No sentiments. No "partiality". Mujtahida: Let me condense the crux of my position in a few words: 1-Whenever Nigeria reaches out to the foreign born players, the odds are stacked against Nigeria and in favour of the adopted country.
2. It's not easy to choose between one or the other. Interviews by Iwobi and Balogun bears this out and understandably so cos they've passed through that road unlike many who make it seem like it's an easy choice.
3- Personally I don't care about foreign born players. I only just try to understand their position. Ultimately the best is what the Eagles should get. QED |

some people will simply not get the analogy she was told the guy has craw-craw. Then I added, but now she is considering him and checking how true the story is, after the prefered guy stopped showing interest Mujtahida: I never said that. Sportsmail revealed on Monday how the Super Eagles were trying to snatch the 18-year-old - who is Jay-Jay Okocha's nephew - from under England's noses. However, the teenage forward has accepted an offer to join up with the Nigeria squad this week and now looks set to switch allegiances. Iwobi, who has born in Nigeria, said: 'Ordinarily I would have loved to play for England since I have played for all the under-aged teams up to the U-19, 'But Austin Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu have influenced my decision to play for Nigeria.
'My dad too has told me a lot of things about the honour and pride that goes with playing for Nigeria.

@ jotey you may read the entire article.. But consider this, Iwobi was quoted -- "loved" I will look for the original story that january: Ok, perhaps there is a bit of self-interest here from Wenger when playing for England would mean Iwobi not disappearing mid-season every couple of years for the Africa Cup of Nations. Yet Iwobi said himself in January that he would have “loved” to play for England and it would be intriguing to know why the FA did not try harder to make it happen before Friday’s cutoff point. https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2016/mar/26/arsenal-alex-iwobi-england-nigeria |

Yes Iwobi was quoted. The Guardian said Iwobi would have "loved" (quoting Iwobi) to play for England. And if i do more search I'm sure I will find more evidence. Even if Aina and Iwobi both said that in their childhood, that would be mere child talk... But thankfully today it's a reality as many factors made it go our way. Mujtahida: Hahahaha hahahaha. I presume you got that from reading owngoalnigeria.com where they reported that he said Aina and himself had always dreamed of going to the World Cup with Nigeria. If my guess is good then omo you just fell into owngoalnigeria.com stew. Iwobi never said that. It's owngoalnigeria.com putting a spin on what he said during the celebrations on our qualifiers.

What does joker mean? Some people will take it as if Rohr was boasting about Moses. We need to do better with analyzing stories. Any team that focuses on Moses will pay dearly. Modified Keshi didn't need to boast about Onazi... Some things are just obvious even during match-time analysis. AIG07: yes I get you Sir. But V. Moses isn't Messi or Ronaldo.
Truly everyone knows how important he is to the team, but rohr coming out to say that he'll be your joker has gone to far. All what our opponents will be after is shutting him up or better still take him out of the equation. Don't forget Onazi in the last worldcup. The french spotted him as the smallest rudder turning the entire engine. They took him out and we collapsed. |

We are saying the same thing. Mujtahida: Iwobi chose us because England stopped calling. His Dad said choosing Nigeria is the best choice they ever made and that he played some football back in Nigeria with ambition to don the green and white but that dream was never to be and so that the day Iwobi made his debut he(the Dad) wept tears of joy for his son reaching heights he could not reach, doing what he wished he did but couldn't do. In all honesty none of them will ditch their adopted countries for Nigeria. However like Alex's Dad said with us they have better opportunities. Do you think Iwobi would be making it with the three Lions as he's been doing for the Eagles? |
