Joel Obi that played for us during Siasia's era was not average. Even then he was not average. It appears you are not current.

Napoleon55:
hope u guys are not serious, is it d same joel obi that we know?
the guy has no place in this present SE,where are u going to play him? is it to partner mikel in the AM,or partner ndidi and remove onazi?

Joel Obi has been in outstanding form in the Series A. How many Nigerians play at the level of football regularly? His only problem is that he is injury prone.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 9:10pm On Sep 28, 2017
You are changing the argument..

Napoleon55:
is it not d same players u use for nations cup u r still going to use for world cup. joel obi has no place in this team more than ogu.

we have our first team players, ogu is not even there, how much more joel.

1-AKPEYI,

2-SHEHU

3-ELDERSON

4-NDIDI

5-BALOGUN

6-EKON

7-MOSES V.

8-ONAZI

9-IGHALO

10-MIKEL

11-IWOBI

12-IHEANACHO

13-ETEBO

14-MOSES SIMON

15-EZENWA

16-MUSA

these are our first team regulars, for any other player to displace any of these players,he has to be excellent,in the case of AINA,after his debut

I agree the EPL seems to be the apex based on the competitiveness and it being highly commercial. But wanting our young players to go there prematurely is not good for their development.

komekn:
I agree with you the operative word being pretty well.

You probably know that for most players irrespective of nationality, the destination of choice if they can make it, the EPL.

I really expect to see much more Nigerian origin players in the EPL in the coming years.

The bar for the EPL clubs is really they expect to win it be in the final or barest minimum quarter finals. So anything less is doing badly.

The club's to beat still for me are Real, Barca and Juventus.

For clubs in Belgium, Austria, Turkey, Holland getting past group stage is a win, that's the level of expectation. Which essentially reflects what level they are on in football terms.

The way Zambian fans have invaded Super eagles Fbook page and every Nigerian football sites is giving me sleepless night...I have even entered an agreement with a Zambian to renounce my citizenship if Nigeria loses and he also agreed to do same if we beat them. The screenshot of our conversation on FB is what we intend to use against eachother. Please let's pray for our Darling Super Eagles to win, I love Nigeria and can't afford to renounce citizenship now. If I do, where do I go?

Where do you get your stats from?
We are talking World Cup now not nations cup.

Napoleon55:
ogu has been in the team for some time now,he understood how the team plays,he can easily replace any of the midfielder depending on the formation without any any problem,he is also a better passer of the ball than joel obi,his size is also a plus .

I'm not sure I understand you. But don't forget everyone is free to express their opinions. The reason for the English word -- subjective.
Even editors and well renowned football pundits disagree a lot. Don't expect this will not be the case on Nairaland. Have your say and don't get irritated when someone has a different opinion.

HeavySigh:
actually 4 Nigerians or so made the list. All of which are regular names here.
I have learned to be careful about swallowing all I read Here in terms of praise for our own players, hook line and sinker as sometimes there can be too much sentiments .. I was particularly happy to see a different neutral body of persons affirming some of you here

You started a good argument until you used the words "just average".
Now I don't have to reply

Napoleon55:
so if u r Rohr,u would drop Etebo, after having worked so hard during the qualifiers, and still very much inform, been tasted and trusted, u would drop such a player to a player like joel obi, first injury prone, second, qaulity wise, just average.
then explain the reason why u joel in place of etebo and ogu,is he better than them?

Joel Obi very good player but he can disappoint anytime due to injury, apart from that very solid midfielder.

Europa League Update:

Plzn 2-1 Sheva (83 mins played)

Plzn go ahead again after Nwakaeme leveled earlier, 7 minutes after his introduction.
Anthony Nwakaeme's goal was a touch of class. He received a cross from the right flank with his back to goal, only to turn
with a strike that left Plzn goalie sprawling. But Ales Hruska probably should have done better to prevent that.

Versatility is a plus. But Joel Obi's ratings cannot be ignored. What argument do you have for Ogu?

elyte89:
Barring no injury to etebo,he would go to d world cup,no sane coach will leave an etebo for Joel obi,cos etebo is a multiplayer,he can play from d wings,as a 10,could also thrive as 8,play 4 also(if a double 4 is been used),heard he also played as a left back sef in his club sometimes back

I've already given my reasons as regards maintaining our coverage where is actually broken and offering more in attack.
This way, Onazi has more freedom to express himself the way he should at the same time.
Our midfield is not broken. Victor Moses is the utility player full of energy.

mostob:
Etebo will offer more in midfield apart from being defensive, his energy and workrate will come handy

Enyeama also, and MAYBE Ikeme. We will be covered in goal.

Icon79:
You're forgetting that Rohr would have about 2 months to open camp try out new players before the world cup. Either way, I will still make the case and Joel Obi (if he stays fit).

We'd also need to try out a few new goalkeepers as well, but I am sure that Rohr already knows that one.

Sir even Brazilian players are everywhere. We are talking of an overpopulated football-crazy country with economic challenges. We need to develop our league regardless of where our players choose to go.
Improving our league will only guarantee our GOOD players don't play in obscure leagues.

Icon79:
The places where Naija players ply their trades these days give me shivers.

We really need to improve our domestic league and find good sponsor to bring money to our league.
That's the only solution.

Ovie Ejaria Missing, As Tammy Abraham, Five Other Nigerians Make England U21 squad for European qualifiers
By Joebie|Nairaland

https://i1.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article10699576.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/England-v-Germany-Semi-Final-2017-UEFA-European-Under-21-Championship.jpg

Tammy Abraham has been named by England U21 manager, Aidy Boothroyd, after declaring his availability to the English FA last week, to dispel Nigeria-switch rumors.

The news of Abraham's switch to Nigeria almost gave him a public relations nightmare in England last week, but the 19 year-old Swansea forward later released a statement confirming his commitment to England. However, Abraham has not given any official statement as regards where his allegiance lies at the senior level in future.

The 24-man squad which will prosecute the games against Scotland and Andorra in the European qualifiers did not include Golden Eaglet trainee, and Liverpool U23 midfielder, Oviemuno Dominic Ejaria. However, the list featured Dominic Solanke, Fikayo Tomori, Ademola Lukman, Sheyi Ojo, and Josh Onomah, all of which are still eligible to play for Nigeria at the senior level.

The England U21 team will face Scotland on October 6 before traveling to take on Andorra on October 10.

Speaking on the first game, the England U21 manger told Sky Sports,

"The game with Scotland is an intriguing fixture and it's a really good game for us. The fact that the Scots beat the Dutch is good for the group I think because it now sets it up nicely for our game with them. They're a team that will naturally want to beat us and they'll be working very hard to do that."

Full England U21 squad:

Goalkeepers: Angus Gunn (Norwich City, on loan from Manchester City), Dean Henderson (Shrewsbury Town, on loan from Manchester United), Freddie Woodman (Newcastle United)

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Ben Chilwell (Leicester City), Dael Fry (Middlesbrough), Joseph Gomez (Liverpool), Jonjoe Kenny (Everton), Fikayo Tomori (Hull City, on loan from Chelsea), Kyle Walker-Peters (Tottenham Hotspur), Joseph Worrall (Nottingham Forest)

Midfielders: Lewis Cook (AFC Bournemouth), Tom Davies (Everton), Kieran Dowell (Nottingham Forest, on loan from Everton), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Crystal Palace, on loan from Chelsea), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal), Josh Onomah (Aston Villa, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur), Harry Winks (Tottenham Hotspur)

Forwards: Tammy Abraham (Swansea City, on loan from Chelsea), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton), Demarai Gray (Leicester City), Ademola Lookman (Everton), Sheyi Ojo (Fulham, on loan from Liverpool), Dominic Solanke (Liverpool)
