I so much believed in this guy.
I thought he would be almost at par with Mikel in terms of development. But this is good old football.

JUPILER LEAGUE UPDATE

Gent go two rounds without a point after losing to visiting Antwerp. Moses Simon was conspicuously missing in Gent's line up. However Anderson Esiti made his first start this season for Gent and later made way for Kalu in the 46th minute.

Onyekuru to make his league debut for Anderlecht as he is in their starting line up. But Joseph Akpala will start from Oostende's bench as they take on the Belgian Champs away.

Ok, we've already had many rounds of that argument. Pinnick and co will do what they please.

I don't fancy our chances with these Anglo Nigerians. Most, if not all prefer serving the Queen-so no dedication to us even if we later cap them and they most time drag the green white green in muddy waters before accepting our offers after it's down on them that they don't have future/chance with the 3 Lions.

So I say we give call to the interested ones-but let them show it first!
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 9:16pm On Aug 05, 2017
Not everyone knows class when they see one. We are just the ones setting impediments in the form of yardstick of e.g play first team first, play first tier first, play more games etc. I can tell you today that Musa Yahaya -- without any sentiments -- is class, and I don't care if he has played in the first tier. I just know it. I have seen him and I know he can compete at the highest level. I can say the same about a handful of our players regardless of where they are playing or whether they are being utilized well in their clubs. I will know class when I see it. Nura Abdullahi is class. I have seen it. Whether they should start for SE right now, that's another matter. But there is no golden rule to it. Some players get the chance in SE even when not fully established in Europe and never look back. Other disappoint. For me, their stats bring my attention. Video clips is proof.

If I were the coach, many of you won't like me, because I will go with my guts when I see a special player that you think does not deserve a call up.

tbaba1234:
Moses was one of the key players in the 2013 nations cup win. We Nigerians already know his potential, it was up to him to start showing it consistently.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:51pm On Aug 05, 2017
Honestly @tbaba1234 I've not watched Aina enough. Please feel free to share some vids. I know that we Nigerians can be very sentimental so when I hear the word class I don't fall for that. But if I see class, I will NEVER ever deny it. I'm already watching an Aina highlight on youtube. Please share more vids here if you can. I am watching with that expectation that I will see class.

Just the other day somebody typed here and gave Oliseh etc titles, but I refused not to respond. But just as I cannot deny that some of our players in the past where the best in their playing position/roles in the world for a considerable short time, that person made it seem they were the best in their positions/roles for at least a large spell of their adult playing career.

Moses won't be class by your definition, if not for Conte. That's an answer to whether Ebuehi or Shehu will make that first team. So yes, I can't truly say for sure. But like I said earlier. It can still go either way when he makes his full debut for SE. So I reiterate, it's still premature to say he is the RB solution.

For me, both Aina and Nuru are my fantasy LB and RB solution -- until proven.

tbaba1234:
Aina is class. He will not be in Chelsea's first team if he wasn't. Ebuehi plays regular first team football but will he make the Chelsea team? Would Shehu make the Chelsea team?

Liverpool 3 Athletic Bilbao 1 : Solanke Scores & Bags Assist, New Paul Pogba Stars, Firmino Spot On Again

Published: August 05, 2017
Liverpool 3 Athletic Bilbao 1 : Solanke Scores & Bags Assist, New Paul Pogba Stars, Firmino Spot On AgainLiverpool rounded off their preparations for the 2017-2018 season with an impressive 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao at the Aviva Stadium (Dublin) on Saturday evening.

England U20 World Cup-winning duo Ovie Ejaria and Dominic Solanke came off the bench for the Anfield side at half-time.

Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino scored his second goal in as many games from the penalty spot after 21 minutes, only for Iñaki Williams to restore parity for the Spanish club on the half-hour mark.

Woodburn restored the Reds one-goal advantage in the 59th minute after he was fed by Dominic Solanke.

Solanke doubled Liverpool's lead with a glorious header in the 80th minute, his third goal in pre-season.

The Golden Ball winner at the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup was also on target against Crystal Palace and Hertha BSC.

What your order criteria. Goal-wise you can do your research that some are proven. We had some impressive performances last year. Whether they can form that deadly partnership with Iheanacho is another matter. Which is why I said they have to be tested.

Icon4s:
Who are the others. Name them please.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:03pm On Aug 05, 2017
Aina had few games under his belt at Chelsea. "He was considered" but now loaned to Hull. He is beginning to prove his case there in pre-season. First team football wise, let's wait till the season begins. Saying he is good enough to unseat anyone at SE's RB is premature IMO. I'm not saying you cannot be proven right eventually.

tbaba1234:
Aina has played first team games for Chelsea and was considered good enough for the first team. Nura on the other hand, has not played competitive games.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:57pm On Aug 05, 2017
What's your yardstick then? Because others have done that at club level. so what's the other criteria?

Icon4s:
Haha.

Test.

This is the national team.

Every player will need to first prove himself at club level before being considered for a call.

Sorry I have not seen that striker yet.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:53pm On Aug 05, 2017
I was saying the same about Aina, although he is starting to make a case.

tbaba1234:
Nura has not played first team football. Let's be patient.

I don't believe we don't have that striker. We have not tested enough yet, in partnership with him.

Icon4s:
That's why I said in the absence of no better lethal striker iheanacho it is.

We still have other players that can play behind the main striker. But Iheanacho stands out amongst the strikers.

We need to maximise our strength in the various positions.

you are picking a fight that does not exist. Let me clarify myself again. I wasn't saying Arsenal is different as regards their top4-always aspirations.
I was saying they differ as regards allowing the likes of Iwobi grow and not spending too much on big players in the market.

Icon4s:
Arsenal's priority has always been top 4. Get that straight.

Ola Aina for LB. Nura Abdullahi for RB

tbaba1234:
Ola Aina had a very solid game for Hull and played an important part in the goal. I think our right back issues are over.

Now we need a left back.

JUPILER LEAGUE WATCH:

Mouscron failed to capitalize on their fine start of the season coming from an away win last weekend, by falling at home 2-5 to Charleroi without Awoniyi -- who is yet to get a working permit . Mouscron's misfiring forwards will make a case for Awoniyi to be handed a debut appearance as soon as he gets his working permit.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:14pm On Aug 05, 2017
Ok we are saying the same thing then. You have just singled out Chelsea and Man City. At least that means most of the clubs are doing fine. So the EPL is alright then as regards player development.

Humility017:
I mean in reference to your arsenal...debate on iwobi....
reason for the first bolded
iwobi is playing because the club believe in young players...development not necessarily because....arsenal does not aim for top 4 or because the team is not quite competitive....
man United, Liverpool and spurs share same philosophy....
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:08pm On Aug 05, 2017
One thing Iheanacho-Success partnership taught me. Back then, Success seemed more lethal sometimes, other times, Iheanacho did more of the scoring. Success was also a better provider at times. Other times Iheanacho did more in assists. Restricting Iheanacho to the CF role won't bring the best out of him and the team. He needs a similar partner in crime.

Modified
That's the kind of sentiments many of us have here. Somebody said let's wait for Osimhen. Another person says let's wait for Aaron Samuel. I can interpret that to mean they are both not ready. How about we just say who is best partnering him right now?

The season has just started. How they begin will be a good yardstick.

Icon4s:
Until we find a striker who is more lethal than Iheanacho he remains my top pick for the CF position.

We just need to set up the team to maximize Iheanacho's ability.

Osimhen, and Sadiq are not ready yet. And Kayode is not lethal enough.

For now I don't buy the 4-4-2 formation.

My eye will also be on Aaron Samuel to see if he can find back his 2014 form.

Haha. you should have already realized you misunderstood me. Arsenal has youth development in their policy, relative to the others.

Icon4s:
You said Arsenal does not see top 4 as birthday right. Please explain this. That is what I am after.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 6:30pm On Aug 05, 2017
@ bolded is contradictory. To me it's actually about club policy -- I agree with your last line.

Humility017:
not really about clubs...
there are just some epl clubs...that are inimical to young players career....
had it been rashford, ligard and co were in Chelsea...they won't have the opportunities they're having in man United...same wit Liverpool and spurs....
Liverpool and man United are quite much bigger than Chelsea and City...
some clubs don't develop players....
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 6:18pm On Aug 05, 2017
If Iwobi dey Chelsea u think say he for they start for first team? There are other several young players in their set up who won't have been considered in ManU etc. Wenger don't go about spending on big names like the aforementioned.

Icon4s:
Arsenal is an exception as how?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 5:58pm On Aug 05, 2017
EPL is highly commercial and competitive. You have to be very exceptional to be in the first team of those top clubs you mentioned. These are clubs who feel being in the top 4 is their birth right. Arsenal is an exception though.

Tammy to Swansea is not a bad move.

Humility017:
the policy in the club football...especially big clubs like...Chelsea, Mancity and others...rarely give promising youngstars the chance to blossom....
how will you explain Tammy loan deal wit Swansea....likewise solanke snub all through last season
why can't these players...be the 2nd choice strikers for these clubs...

Good argument. But hasn't the new season started already? Let's watch to see if he can start on a good note at least.

junnyjake:
Nope, 2nd tier.

And he played a huge part in their promotion to the first division.

I'd play him in place of Osimhen who's had 45 minutes of action last season.

All we know about Sadiq Umar is his performance in preseason so far.

oh really? Did in play in the first tier?

junnyjake:
I'd rather we try out Cyriel dessers before any of them. His performance last season trumps theirs by any definition.
