I'm a super eagles fan. die hard for that matter. but i'm a realist. you are talking 2013. How many caps has Mikel? You are only speaking about a handful of matches. What's your yardstick Super Eagles wise? Can Mikel even be mentioned among our all time greats? TheSuperNerd: Had Mikel had a bad game in any of the WCQs games so far?? Had Mikel ever had a below 7-8 over 10 performance in any of those games??
Also when he picked up MOTM awards three times en route to Afcon glory in 2013, you didn't come out and talk then... *smh*
And what do you mean by "Standard of the Super Eagles"?? Insinuating we are bunch of rag-tags?? |

We need to exercise caution. The secret of Rohr's success. consider this: http://spotkik.com/2016/11/15/the-secret-behind-rohrs-winning-streak/Icon4s: Even with the defense we put up against Algeria, I believe we will beat that Cameroonian team in Uyo. Idowu or no Idowu or Ebuehi.
We just need our attacking midfielders to come to the party and the pressure will be on the Cameroonians. Get Iheanacho in good scoring positions and the Cameroonians will see wonders. We will unleash Etebo, Iwobi and Moses as AM/Wingers in that game and let me see whether that there defense will not crumble.
Though I have not rated this team that highly but I still believe in their abilities.
This team can get at least 3pt from that clash. |

seriously? my brother.. if we were having discussion with other Africans and you told them Mikel is our best player, I will seriously be ashamed. TheGoodJoe:
What about the repeated man of the match he won during the AFCON? The only reason why Mikel did not get celebrated in World Football is because he played a conservative role. He shone under Keshi because the Big boss gave him a creative platform to express his abilities and Mikel did not let the Big Boss down. |

yes, I was expecting an insult of some sort. typical of nigerians in threads. I can make my point accross though without going that route. Your argument that his is the standout a player in the green white green, Please tell me what match? Or are you talking about the Olympic games or 3 years ago in the confed cup? He may be your favorite player, but not everybody's.. no need for insults. we are adults with different opinions. or do two commentators in a match usually agree all the time? TheSuperNerd: You obviously haven't watched Mikel extensively in the Green and white.
Your comment on him unable to dictate the tempo of a game reeks of ignorance I cannot comprehend. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 12:34pm On Feb 07, 2017 |
well well well, going by the standard of Super Eagles players, you have a point.. happy now. Confederations cup only, I agree. But was never the man of the match during any of the world cup qualifiers. TheGoodJoe:
Are you sure you have watched Mikel ever, to use the term overrated or dictate Tempo. Over the last few years, Mikel has clearly been our standout player. All through the AFCON, Qualifiers for the World Cup and Confederation Cup. He was the base of our play, the vision that steered the direction of the team. A player who shone at the AFCON and stood out in a midfield against the European and World Champions, Spain.
As far as I am concerned, he is even one of the most overrated players in football. |

As Rohr likely said we are not looking for strikers. You should definitely read this: http://spotkik.com/2017/02/05/oyinbo-wall-philosophy/PROVERBZ: what do you think about Stephen odey of mfm for me he is better than most of all this German and english players with Nigerian roots we are going after
his coach already said his better than messi and christiano Ronaldo
he is one to keep an eye on for possible super eagles call up |

That Keshi team never improved after AFCON '14(with due respect to his late self). He didn't have anything more to offer. Icon4s: We took part in the 2014 WC yet Congo PR trashed us a few weeks later.
I agree with you. Match day is match day. |

Without sentiments. Do you think we will figure out the missing link in defense before August? The likes of Idowu and Ebuehi are not even that good. Icon4s: I can categorically tell you that that does not matter. |

Sure. Mikel plays 10 for SE. He shouldn't. He is not that creative and can't dictate the tempo of the game. He should play as a holding midfielder. OVERATED TheSuperNerd: Mikel and Ndidi don't play the same role for the Super Eagles. |

I see no reason why Onazi starts for Super Eagles. Or a you saying Ndidi can't bench Mikel? TheSuperNerd: Watch out for "the Rock" come august and september... Against the most expensive midfielder and player of all time, HE STOOD AS A KING IN THE MIDFIELD....
Little wonder he was MOTM in a game leicester fell 0-3 to Man Utd. It's rare for a player from a team who lost 0-3 to scoop MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD, isn't it? **this is according to a few reports I got... Missed the post-match interviews. Knew he was BBC leicester MOTM, but was he overall MOTM too?** <scratches head> Anyway, point is... Ndidi in our midfield should scare the Camerounian midfield kinda... Not even to mention Lord Mikel...

Ndidi Made Pogba A Passenger In The Midfield, The Boy Is Good – Gary Neville
https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/image-28.jpg
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has saluted the performances of Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi despite the 0-3 loss suffered by Leicester City in the hands of Neville’s former club Manchester United.
Neville who was in the studio as a pundit during the course of the game, praised the Nigerian for keeping the world most expensive player Paul Pogba silent for the entire duration of the game.
Ndidi who was voted Leicester City man of the match by the BBC made a good impression on the former Valencia boss, who described his performance as near perfect.
”I can’t fault his (Ndidi) performance, he was very big in the game. He made Pogba a passenger in the middle. The boy is good in tackles and he is not afraid of running with the ball either”, Neville said.
”He got Pogba booked and was fouled severally, that said I can’t remember when he fouled any opponent. He did well despite how poor his team were on the day”.

they have played 5 games more.. That's going to count in their favor. That means they are ahead preparation wise.. Let's get real. We are still in the process of tidying things up in our backline. We only have two defenders. Officiating in Africa is quite different. don't expect the referee to always blow when Cameroonian attackers out-muscle our defenders. Icon4s: Rustiness?
Will Cameroun continue playing every week till the WC qualifiers in August?
We have a friendly in march and AFCON qualifiers in June just like Cameroun too. So which one bring rustiness on our own side?
My view has remained that August is 6months away. That is a very long time for a lot to have changed. What matters most is the form of the teams as at the time the games are to be played. |

My point is that we got stronger as the tourney progressed. But comparing both finals, Cameroon was more convincing in my opinion. safarigirl: Nigeria seemed lucky? In what way?
We played Cote d'Ivoire in the QF, we won them 2-1. Cameroon played Senegal and only defeated them via penalties
We went on to play Mali, another strong West African team, Top 5 in Africa then, I think.....we DESTROYED them 4-1. Cameroon played Ghana, wobble and fumble Ghana, and won 2-0.
We played Burkina Faso in finals and won them 1-0. Cameroon played a stronger Egypt and won them 2-1
So, how did we get lucky when we always finished our games in regular time? |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 10:08am On Feb 07, 2017 |
You would have said the same about Moses... komekn: Chelsea is strange situation one time Afcon best player Atsu has never even smelled the first team at Chelsea.
Lukaku as good as he was don't think he even started one game for Chelsea he is currently the top goal scorer in the premiership.
Rueben Loftus-Cheek would be a regular in most teams including Arsenal, Manchester United and City but he is a bench warmer at Chelsea.
If. KC Kelechi was at Chelsea he would probably be a bench warmer. If Ademola was at Chelsea he will struggle to be in the U23's.
What I am saying there is a huge pool of talent to consider the idea that because some are not regulars first team players at for instance Chelsea implies that they are unproven or not good enough is not necessarily true. |

Reminds me of Super Eagles 2014 Nations Cup title.. Only that Nigeria seemed more lucky. Some champions start slowly. But you will agree with me Cameroon ended stronger than they started. That's what you get when you at least have games to tinker the team. Nigeria is lacking in this. how do we make up for no matches to oil our rustiness? Icon4s: It was Guinea-Bissau and not Equatorial Guinea.
As at the group stage and even quarter finals I can bet even you did not expect Cameroun to win the trophy.
On paper and even as per performance as at quarter finals there were so many teams better than Cameroun. When people started taking
Cameroun serious was after they ousted favorites Senegal.
Cameroun even finished second behind Burkina Faso. You saw how they labored to beat Guinea-Bissau. Coming from a goal down at half time and scoring 2 late goals. No pundit, I repeat no pundit(even the Cameroonians) at that stage would tip such a Cameroonian team to win the trophy.
Anything can happen in football. Cameroun won. Congrats to them. |

Cameroon has always been blessed with great goalkeepers. Even Kameni is not in the team and he is a super regular at Malaga. What are our chances against this team my people.. August is still far.. but we have to work on our team.. missing the nations cup is a minus for us..as we have not been playing friendlies.. Also can our oyinbo wall stop the rampaging physical Cameroon forwards?terzurum5: Rohr Admits – Cameroon Have A Good Goalkepper And A Strong Line Of Defence
https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/image-24.jpg
Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says the goalkepper of Cameroon and the defence of the team impressed him the most during their run to the AFCON title.
Rohr who worked as a TV pundit during the tournament in Gabon made this known during his post match analysis on the strength of the Cameroonian team.
” They are very organised at the back, they defend very deep and give opponent little time to dwell on the ball. They are also not scared of getting into duels”, he said on BeIN TV.
” I think their goalkepper ( Fabrice Ondoa) was also one of the best at the tournament, he was there when he needed to be for his team. They have a strong line of defence and a good goalkepper.
” You can’t say they don’t deserve to win the title, judging by how well they played as the tournament progresses, they found their rhythm late into the tournament and it worked for them in the final”.

What's assessment of this list? I rather have Kayode over Ighalo. UNIQUEISRAEL: Nigeria technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has invited 24 players for 2018 World Cup qualifier clash against Algeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo billed for November 12.

Making the coach’s list for the first time are Hapoer Be’er Sheva’s John Ogu and Oghenekaro Etebo, who won bronze medal with the Nigeria U23 national team in Brazil.
Watford’s Odion Ighalo also returns to the team after missing the last trip due to his father’s burial and in-form Chelsea winger, Victor Moses has also been invited for the encounter.
Invited players are expected to start arriving in Abuja on Sunday November 6.
