the way they carry themselves?
if that's the case I would have given them their due respect from first impression.
I beg to differ on that.

one thing I've always believed in, no matter how you argue your point, don't expect the other person will agree with you eventually. it's healthier to accept that people will always have different opinions no matter what.

Its called manners and respect, which they have earned through the information they give us and the way they carry themselves. We are just fine with the way things run here so u just have to fit it simple as that.

my bro.. the problem with chatting or sending messages online is we may not really get people's emotions as many things said can be mis construed. I may not have understood you well, but I was just saying generally that people don't need to see it as a big deal just because of the length of time they have spent on an online community. I wasn't attacking you really.

Granted.. but why this love for 4 defenders by Nigeria?
Phillipe Troussier did well playing 3-5-2 back in the days. In fact, i think Rohr can succeed doing what Chelsea is doing (3-4-3).
We need just one more solid central defender, instead of managing average full backs..

I think Ndidi has lots of running like Moses.. and they can both cover both wing-backs
something to think about.

Exclusive – Villarreal Offers Nigerian Golden
Boy Samuel Chukwueze Three Year Deal

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/image-32.jpg

Spanish La-Liga side Villarreal has offered highly rated Nigerian teen star Samuel Chukwueze a three year deal, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.

Talks are way underway with the teen forward
who was once upon a time close to joining Arsenal and later FC Porto, but the deals fell through due to issues around the modalities of his transfer.
this owngoal be like tabloid oh. sometimes some of their stories seem unverified.. I'm not doubting this one though.

Chukwueze we gathered has been followed by the team since after his exploits at the U-17 World Youth Championship, where Nigeria emerged as champions.

He was the third highest goal scorer at the
tournament, and generally the left footed 17 year old is regarded as one of the brightest teen in Nigeria football at the moment.

Nicknamed “Nigeria Robben”, he will join Villarreal on a pre contract which will metamorphose into a professional deal when he clocks 18 in 2018.

So many IFs, shoulda, woulda. We are not talking about what should have been, or potential here, as that is always based on sentiments

TheGoodJoe:

Mikel did not play second fiddle. Do not get that wrong. Makalele came to Chelsea and showed Florentino Perez he was wrong looking down on him. He played the defensive midfield role to an artistic level the role got named after him. THE MAKALELE ROLE.

"He wasn't a header of the ball and he rarely passed the ball more than three metres,"...Florentino Perez (Real Madrid President)

"Why put another layer of gold paint on the Bentley when you are losing the entire engine?"...Zinedine Zidane

Mikel was a player who understudied Makalele and soaked in the great lessons of the defensive midfield genius. That was why, despite repeated changes in Chelsea, they could not find a shield like Mikel. It just has to end up with Mikel. With several of midfielders coming into Chelsea. Great names, there was no one who could do it like him.

Just like Florentino Perez, a lot do not see how important Mikel was during the dominant reign of Chelsea but just like Makalele, he was the team was the engine of their success. He was the engine of that team.

Ed Dove of Bleacherreport wrote, "While Nigeria fans are naturally delighted at the elegant influence Mikel has had in the middle of the park over the last year of sport, joy is tinged with regret when remembering the delirious talent stolen by English football."

Mikel has the ability of becoming a celebrated gem in the game but he chose a role of importance to winning. His conservative and humble role ensured the team kept on winning. Others like Lampard and Ballack got the glory but Mikel made sure they won. People who think like Florentino Perez will come out tomorrow and say he is not World Class or Top Quality. Those who think like Zidane will understand the great sacrifice Mikel made for the Chelsea flag to fly high. It was not about his name but the team. That is truly a World Class player who laid it all for his team.

my bro, you notice they all belong to the U17 2009 class. That was the year MRI scan started to be enforced. if you remember John Obuh had to put the team together after the previous team failed the scan. Omeruo, Onazi, Sani Emmanuel etc were also part of the set up. Only Onazi and Omeruo today are established in the SE. However, if they all don't hit great form before age 28, I doubt they ever will.

I THINK Rabiu Ibrahim is way older. The aforementioned players are at least a year or two off their claimed ages, if not their real ages.

Thank you so much my brother!

irrefragable:
you don't need to show me his stats. This player won 4 APOTY when our own mikel couldn't even manage to get one

This player singlehandedly won matches for man city when our own mikel is been brought in on second half to 'pack the bus'
This player would rather leave a club than seat on the bench our mikel will gladly sit on the bench even accept pay cut in chelsea just because he wants to stay up to the required number of years that will make him eligible for a uk visa.

Right now our mikel doesn't know if he's a defensive midfielder or an attacking midfielder, playing defensive for club and attacking for national team. Like seriously, who does that?

Other defensive midfielders plays the role well and even pushes attack sometimes scoring our mikel only knows how to lock the defense and even dulls the attack

Someone said mikel has a high pass accuracy. I ask, which pass accuracy? is it the one he always passes the ball back to defenders or to keeper.

And that's the person one supernerd and co calls world class. I've always said Nigerians glorify what's a bit above average. If you say the truth they'll all attack you because mikel is a nigerian and they are Nigerians.

World-class players power their team to victory when it matters most check out players like Ronaldinho, de lima, Drogba and the rest. These are players that can never be benched by any team in the world.

Someone was saying if mikel had played for a team like Barcelona..... Like seriously? Barcelona can never contract a DM like mikel because they are an attacking team and mikel is a defensive player. Only team like chelsea that needs to park the bus from time to time will contract him. If you tell them this they will call you a mikel hater.

I can go on and on but I'm tired of typing already let me just stop here.

Thanks bro!

very well said about Rohr. Should we qualify he takes most of the credits.
Nigeria has never taking world cup qualification this serious in a long time.. we always leave it late.
We will qualify before the final two matches with Rohr's attitude. Cameroon does have the advantage speaking about building a cohesive team. You don't get a cohesive team without playing matches. I saw people comparing cameroon players and nigerian players here based on quality.. those arguments makes no sense to me.. quality team wins matches. Ivory Coast and Senegal did not win the AFCON. Portugal won the Euro 2016. Teams win. if you have quality players, they have to play as a team.

chrisooblog:
hi joebie well come to the house hope you would drop by often to help make this thread more lively and informative. read your views during the mikel debate i share your views about mikel's place in the scheme of things world football wise but no doubt as far as nigerian football is concerned he's an absolute legend. if in his early years he had played under a coach who would have groomed him properly i have no doubts he would have turned into a world class CM but instead he jammed mourinho who didn't have the time and patience to work on him turning mikel into an above average DM.

Congrats to Cameroon they lived up to their name indomitable happy they won because all our eyes don clear say we are facing formidable opponents. i'm quietly confident that we will get something positive out of our 2 matches against cameroon. rohr's attitude and comments so far regarding the lions shows he appreciates the task at hand. yes 5 months is a long time for cameroon to lose their team cohesion but the confeds will still help them gel further so we have to prepare and get ready like we are facing world champions. that approach saw us through against algeria and will God willing see us overcome the cameroonians.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 3:35pm On Feb 08, 2017
Confed Cup performance I've never disputed that.

Yes he did enjoy first team appearance for Chelsea.. at the same time he played second fiddle to other midfielders.
when a player has no intention of leaving a club even when he is benched continually shows he rather stays in his comfort zone.
Word Class players don't do that. if they are not playing, you are bruising their ego. They will opt for a coach/team who would appreciate them better.
I'm happy Conte was adamant and made him move. Mikel's move had been long overdue.. he never took chances to increase his value.
Now let's see how he succeeds in doing that finishing his career in China. if he is that world class he should have upped his value.

enigmaticmotik:
Was it lack of competition that made him to last that long in Chelsea huhhuh When players like Ballack was begging for his wages to be cut to remain in Chelsea undecided Look at the caliber of players he has displaced in the team Makalele, Essien, Diara, Ballack and even other promising talents grin grin grin Benitez that was a big critic of Mikel during his Liverpool days, benched Mikel when he first came, but immediately he used him and say how technical the guy was... End of story. Remember when Benitez left for Napoli, Mikel was the first player he tried to recruit.

Try watching that game against Spain in the confederations cup (better still, watch the highlight on YouTube). Mikel is a legend, midfield maestro and a great footballer which can make him stand tall among his peers. World class of the highest order unreservedly..,

I found this post. I think it will be better we make our arguments from here.. because everyone has a different definition of world class.
For me I put Mikel in Class 3.. BUT MANY OF YOU WILL PUT HIM IN CLASS 1. That the problem here.

Has Nigeria Ever Produced A World Class Player? by Jarus(m): 8:42pm On Jul 28, 2008
My analysis:
The word 'world class' as it is used by informed football analysts is very hard to define but I will attempt to categorise the usage into three:

CLASS 1 WORLD CLASS: Incontrovertibly, unarguably accepted by every informed analyst
CLASS 2 WORLD CLASS: Almost glaring that they are world class but we will find few respected analysts that will disagree, with reasonable argument
CLASS 3 WORLD CLASS Coaches and other analysts often call some players world class, although recklessly at times. Players respected coaches and/or analysts call world class but which many people will disagree fall under this category.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:46pm On Feb 08, 2017
I can't think of any player that is world class if you want to talk about those that have been around for a long time.
Yaya Toure - arguably. But that's how behind Africa is in Football. Potential-wise I see Nigeria doing great things than we have ever done. I am hopeful about Nigeria U17 2013/2015 classed and other young players springing up. Our golden generation is yet to come. Then we can compare top quality vs top quality. Mikel has little competition at the moment.

For now Aubameyang is the only player I can put up there.
But he is still new relatively compared to players that have been there. And still has to prove it consistency-wise

Oh that reminds me. Eto'o is purely world class

daveP:
Ok

Give me 5 names of African Footballers who you think are world class and have good experience in ucl, EPL, and world cup in a trio.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:35pm On Feb 08, 2017
Okay maybe we have a different definition of World Class.
there is no one definition, as it is subjective. I think that's the reason for all this confusion.
I don't have to comment to your every point.. but let me add here.. As for the Algeria game Etebo impressed me most.
He did a lot defensively, which was uncharacteristic of him

daveP:
Mind you, nowhere do we say he is among the top ten midfielders in the world. We are affirming that he is world class!!! Which is what you seem to have a problem with.

Opta stats disagrees Strongly with you......1

His passes aimed at not losing possession is still one the top 3 best in the EPL.(Not even almighty Ozil, yes I'm a gunner, have a chance at this)

He fills in for Terry when Terry goes goal hungry. Conte didn't want to have such from a midfielder, so we saw the temperature of the bench increasing for Mikel.

Against Bayern, that final, his passes were either 3rd or 4th touch before a goal attempt. Bayern's middle had to foul him to disposses him.

I never liked Mikel when he wasn't replicating his form in the national team years back. But the Afcon win changed all that.

Then his game play at the Olympics..... Obviously you don't see that.

Watched him play against Algeria?

Onazi covered his back but we knew his moves were world class.

We don't hate here, if you have a good point, buttress it well with Facts

His time may be up, but he's not out.

Obviously Ezekwem basses I termed world class cos Barca took him ba? Even if we don't agree yet.

Man u and Chelsea fought for this guy's siggy.....

Just because Mikel has less competition in the national team don't make him world class. I don't know your standard.. but these term is relative to me.. firstly I won't be making comparisons to other African players. Because we don't have a lot I can place in that category at the moment. If I mention Aubemeyang, someone will want to shoot my head and say he is a striker. Mikel cannot even be ranked among the top 10 midfiedlers in the world at the moment.. it's okay to be patriotic.. i don't dislike mikel.. but no self proclaimed soccer guru here will convince me to put him in that world class category.. sorry.. maybe write nairaland owner to kick me out of here since you guys own this place..haha

daveP:
Hehehhe

From this Afcon alone, he should tell or show me one midfielder that has the qualities that Mikel have and I'll prostrate for his punditry!

For now, he is just another Jamie Carrgher with nonsensical points.

Even on mobile soccer games, we know what Mikel is rated and that's not even what I want to use to defend Obi, but it's the least and it's a reflection of his qualities in reality(abi na real life we dey talk?)

Safarigirl, exactly 7am? Was that planned?

Pls who are d world class players and what is d meaning of world class player coz it's in Nigeria am always hearing world class player, here at my base nothing like world class player.

Those w classified as top player are d guys who played or are playing in top division across d world and also a playing for their national team with good laurels to show for it and Mikel is one of them by winning a lot for his club which i w not mention again and winning prestigious Afcon our own version of copa America which is still eluding Messi and European Cup which Ronaldo won which his fans always used as their supremacy over Messi.

My guy i don't argue but talk football to d best of my knowledge coz have been on it for long and i know what am saying,so Mikel is a top player irrespective d way u view world class player.Pls go to London and visit Chelsea ground then u w know may be Mikel is a world class as u described it.

A player won Afcon,European champions league,Europa cup,two EPL,Four FA cups,League Cup,community shield and 2nd best Africa player 2013,pls rate this player.

Okay really there is no point arguing this matter all over again. If he was that world class as some of you are claiming here, we will not need to have this argument in the first place.. No doubt he stands over his peers in SE at the moment based on records. But come on, however you want to argue please dont use the word world class when describing Mikel. I will see it as pure sentiments.. you wont to be able to say this anywhere and hardly find someone trying to dispute it.. With MIkel there are many IFs.. if mourinho did not convert him. IF he had went to Man U.etc.. I'm not talking potential now. Based on what we saw from him over the years, he could hardly make a top 20 FIFA shorlist year after year.. Please let's reserve the phrase world class for players that are really special. Not Mikel

U are welcome to one of d best thread on nairaland.Am highly delighted reading your views on Mikel Obi and your discussions with supernerd on Mikel which i see as hatred vs analytical arguments.

I believe Michael2 w be delighted to read my contributions on this coz w had hottest arguments on Mikel that great guys on this needed to come in and say enough is enough, one thing i learnt on this thread is this we have different views and understanding of d game and it take a very knowledgeable guy to really know who is making sense and who is talking thrash.

On John Obi Mikel,i w say this and i w repeat it anytime any day that any pundits that say Mikel is overrated doesn't know anything about football and should keep quiet coz d guy has seen it all as a footballer and must be respected for God sake whether u like him or not,a hatred should not be our judgment in analysing a player.

Truly Mikel has his shortcomings as a player but that doesn't gives room for(MIKEL IS NOT CREATIVE AND CAN'T DICTATES TEMPO OF THE GAME' HE SHOULDN'T BE PLAYING NO 10 for SE" HE IS OVERRATED' HE SHOULD BE DROPPED)This statements signify what i can refer to as total hatred and any fan that show this kind of attitude towards any player always wanted d player to be at d losing side coz have seen fan who wanted Nigeria to lose coz he hate certain player.I hope u w be happy see Nigeria winning despite seeing Mikel on d field.

This is a player that have over 10years experience playing for top European club whether as a regular or on d bench coz i don't want to know and he had good eleven trophy as a a Chelsea player with super prestige champions league as one of d trophy and such a player was being described as nothing,it's uncalled-for and absurd.

Mikel Obi career as a Super Eagles player playing as No 10 was due to coaches decisions. He did not force himself on them,he came to camp and always distinguished himself and pls who is at fault but coming here to tell us Mikel should not be playing NO 10 for eagles is some how crazy,to my surprised u are even saying Ndidi should be picked ahead which show something is amiss.

My question is this whom do u feel can bench this guy coz u said he should be dropped for no reason.A player can only be dropped if he is not playing to expectations and our last three matches proved to us d guy is still good, world cup qualifying for God sake we won home and away with his input and a goal,so what else again coz am confused.

fast fingers.. Ronaldo, Griezmann, Ibra, Messi etc are in a different league.. I modified it to 70%.. because the aforementioned players are above 85 in my estimation.
