CrimeCustoms Officers Kill Motorcyclist, Arrest Protesting Brother by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 2:29pm On Oct 14, 2016
Punch reports that there was a breach of the peace at Mosalasi bus stop, Alagbado, Lagos State, on Thursday, during which operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, shot dead a 25-year-old commercial motorcyclist (okada rider), Saheed Omotosho.
Saheed’s elder brother, Rasheed Omotosho, was also said to have been beaten up and arrested by the customs officers when he protested that the victim was allegedly killed unjustly.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the NIS team had chased a vehicle loaded with suspected smuggled bags of rice on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
They were said to have impounded the vehicle from the smugglers at the bus stop. As the team made to go with the contraband, some hoodlums reportedly stopped them, and started offloading the rice.
It was gathered that the officers called for reinforcement, which after arriving started shooting sporadically. The development made okada riders and others in the area to flee.
An eyewitness, Adeniyi Obanisola, told PUNCH Metro that bullets ripped through Saheed’s back while he was running to safety.
He said, “Saheed was shot dead by the officers. He had a wife, who is pregnant. His elder brother was bitter that they killed his brother. They beat him up and took him away.”
When our correspondent visited Agas Street, where Saheed lived, his pregnant wife was said to have been moved to a relative’s residence in Sango.
Policemen were also seen patrolling the area while aggrieved friends of the deceased made bonfires on the road.
A source told our correspondent that name tags were not attached to the uniform wore by the customs operatives, adding that they fled the scene, leaving the victim in a pool of blood.
“But the picture of one of the customs officers was taken at the scene,” the source added.
Another witness, Muftau Oladosu, said the NIS officers intensified the shootings when the Divisional Police Officer of the Alakuko Police Station led his men to the scene to restore peace.
“The DPO tried to talk to them but they continued shooting and left with the seized bags of rice,” he said.
The Chairman, Itesiwaju Motorcyle Park, under which Saheed operated, Wasiu Ibikunle, condemned the incident, saying the government needed to check the excesses of customs officers.
He said, “They didn’t see any contraband with the victim. Why will customs men be intimidating us with guns when we are not smugglers? Government needs to caution them.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the incident, said the command had commenced investigation to ascertain the identities of the killer officers.
She said, “The report is that in the early hours of Thursday, some customs officers trailed a vehicle . In the process, they started shooting. One Saheed Omotosho was shot dead.
“The deceased’s brother was taken away to an unknown destination. The corpse has been taken to a morgue. Investigation is ongoing into the matter.”
The spokesperson for the NCS, Federal Operations Unit ‘A’, Ikeja, Jerry Attah, said, “Our operatives gathered (Click on the link below to read more)

CrimePolice Recover N2.75m Bribe From ACP by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:53pm On Oct 14, 2016
Punch reports that the Complaint Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force has resolved 324 cases out of a total of 405 complaints made against the police by members of the public between July 1 and September 30, 2016.

Fifty-one cases reported during the period were found to be false while 30 cases are pending, a report released on Thursday in Abuja by the Officer in charge of the CRU, Acting ACP Abayomi Shogunle, stated.
The CRU said it recovered N2.75m bribe from an Assistant Commissioner of Police, serving in one of the state commands in the South-East, after a complaint was made to the unit through a telephone call.
The police stated that the money was recovered from the ACP after the case was referred to the X-Squad for necessary action in line with the directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, that the X-Squad be integrated into the CRU responding agents.
Findings indicated that the errant senior officer had been referred to the Police Service Commission for disciplinary action.
The report stated, “Record shows that the sum of N2.750m bribe was recovered from an Assistant Commissioner of Police, serving in one of the state commands after a complaint was made to the CRU through a telephone call.
“Necessary disciplinary procedures are ongoing against the officer involved in the unacceptable conduct just as the suspect arrested in respect of the case, upon which the bribe money was collected, has since been handed over to the relevant government agency for prosecution for the offence.”
The CRU report stated that Rivers State Police Command topped the state ranking with a total number of 78 cases followed by Lagos with 72 cases and the Federal Capital Territory with 48 cases.
The third quarter report further shows that over half of the complaints against the police came from four state commands – Rivers, Lagos, FCT and Anambra – which accounted for 55.06 per cent of complaints during the period under review.
No single complaint was reported against the police in six state commands – Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Osun and Sokoto.
“Kebbi State remains the only command with no complaint made against the police since the inception of the CRU in November, 2015,” it stated.
The CRU said professional misconduct (Click on the link below to read more)

PoliticsLicense Illegal Refineries, Rep Tells FG by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:25pm On Oct 14, 2016
Punch reports that a member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has said that instead of destroying illegal refineries in the Niger Delta, the Federal Government should license and regulate them.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday that the government should leverage on the skills of operators of the refineries to develop small outlets for refining crude oil for domestic use.
Agbonayinma, who represents Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Constituency of Edo State, said his advice became necessary because the persons given licences to build refineries by previous administrations had failed to do so.
He said the number of illegal refineries being destroyed and the rate at which they resurfaced had shown that the operators had some engineering skills that government should harness.
He said, “The activities of illegal refinery operators should be regulated, licences should be issued to them and crude oil allocated to them based on their capacities.

Christianity EtcNCFI Declares Season Of Breaking Forth by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 3:03pm On Oct 13, 2016
Nobles Family Church International (NCFI), a vibrant new generation Pentecostal church, with headquarters in Abuja, has declared the next 365 days a season of breaking forth.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the church’s annual conference, tagged International Believers’ Summit 2016, which coincided with the 2nd Year Anniversary of the ministry, the Presiding Bishop of the organization, Rt. Rev. Ebiye Philip Tuaweri, in a message titled, “You Are Highly Favoured, Luke 1: 26” said that within the declared season, God has assured that participants in the convention would be given a gift.

Reading from Luke 1:26, 30 and Isaiah 54:1, Tuaweri said every breaking forth is preceded by an annunciation. “An announcement of a supernatural breaking forth always contradicts natural situation. If you are working on a project whose magnitude is within your capability, don’t expect God in it because he has already given you the ability to handle it. When, however, you get connected with what is bigger than you, you have supernatural backing,’ he said.

“When God fingers you for breaking forth, He doesn’t consider your capability. Mary was a virgin, merely betrothed to a man but not married, yet God told her she would conceive (Luke 1:34). Anything you are breaking forth into is bigger than you and your capabilities. Don’t depend on your strength, God is going to use you as a channel,” the cleric said.

The service, which was the grand finale of the 5day annual convention, was devoted to high praise and worship to God. Renowned gospel artistes who led the congregation into God’s presence in praise and worship, included Galaxy Band from Yola, Adamawa State, Brother Chuks, popularly known as Emma, and the host choir, Noble Tribe.

Politics‘22 Top Federal Officials Sacked Over Budget Padding’ by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:06pm On Oct 06, 2016
Punch reports that a total of 184 civil servants were disciplined for their different roles in the padding of the 2016 budget.
This was contained in Buhari’s authorised biography, ‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria’, written by Prof. John Paden and presented to the public on Monday.
Of the 184, Paden said 22 top officials were dismissed from service.
He said the President viewed the padding as an attempt to scuttle his administration’s innovations, hence his decision to wield the big stick against the culprits.
The author wrote, “Buhari himself was frustrated by earlier padding of the budget by bureaucrats in some of the ministries.
“This was interpreted by the Buhari team as an attempt to scuttle the innovations proposed by the President by inflating their costs.
“When Buhari found out, he was reported to be angry and ordered a purge of the ministries involved from the Director-General down.
“Twenty-two top officials were dismissed, including the budget director. In all, 184 civil servants were disciplined.”
He added that even after the budget had been adjusted downward by the National Assembly, the country would still have to borrow $3.5bn, as a result of the drop in oil prices.
In February, Buhari had while addressing the Nigerian community in Saudi Arabia, vowed that all those involved in the padding of the 2016 national budget, which led to the discrepancies in the document, would face severe punishment.
He had said the alterations, which he described as embarrassing and disappointing, made the document, being debated in the National Assembly at that time, completely different from what was prepared by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
Describing those responsible for the distortion of the budget proposals as entrenched interests, the President had said since he had been holding public offices, he had never heard about budget padding before the incident.
Buhari had added, “The culprits will (Click on the link below to read more)

Christianity EtcTo Break Forth, Learn To Praise With Expectation – Osaghae by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 12:29pm On Oct 06, 2016
The senior pastor of Believers Ministry Inc, Benin City, Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Sam Osaghae, has charged Christians to learn to praise God with expectation if they must break forth in life.

Rev. Osaghae gave the charge Wednesday in Abuja, when he flagged off the 2016 edition of the International Believers’ Summit (IBS) organized by Nobles Family Church International (NFCI) at the O’Neal Centre auditorium of the church, Apo.

Defining breaking forth as the sudden release of what is beyond people’s expectation, the cleric said one way to break forth is to give God quality praises with expectation. “You don’t obtain anything from a royalty by begging him (You would be thrown out of the palace), you attract the attention of the royalty by praise singing. Once you get his attention, he gives you the licence to ask for anything you want,” he said. “Don’t be in a hurry to ask God for something when you access his presence, praise Him till He is happy,” he added.

“Christians praise and worship God for many reasons: Some do it to entertain others, others do it to showcase how talented they are. At the end of the day, the praise and worship singers only succeed in earning themselves headache, body pains, and sometimes worse ailments. Some, who started the worship with one ailment or the other in their bodies, still go home with such infirmities in their bodies. The reason for these anomaly is that they direct their praise and worship towards man: To showcase their talents or to entertain the church. Thus contemporary Christians have replaced anointing with talent”

“However, the moment Christians learn to realign the purpose of their praise and worship, directing it to God, the result will be different,” he said.

Praise and worship leaders, and indeed the whole body of Christ, should stop trying to use praise and worship to pull crowd. They should rather use it to pull God, who in turn will pull the crowd. ‘And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me’ (John 12:32), he added.

He emphasized that the purpose for one’s worship determines the result he gets, urging Christians to make glorifying God the purpose of their worship.

BusinessHow My N30, 000 Investment Became A Multi-million Naira Business-chinelo Ikeme, by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 7:18pm On Oct 02, 2016
Chinelo Ikeme is a household name among artificial hair dealers in the country and her company, My Hair Limited, was the official hair sponsor at the just concluded Africa Fashion Week held in Lagos, recently. In this interview, the Lagos-based, classy entrepreneur speaks about her success story in business, challenges and more.

Are My Hair Limited and Moore Enterprises sister companies?
Not that, per se. Moore Enterprises is actually a family business and we are into the importation of chemicals. The CEO of Moore Enterprises is different from the CEO of My Hair Limited and that is me. I am only the Financial Director of Moore Enterprises. At My Hair Limited, we buy and sell hair and we also do clinical services like treating hair. Some buy hair from us and after a little time, they need to do a little work of cleaning it by washing and rolling it. We also treat hair that has been damaged by use or by chemicals.

What led you into this business?
I have always loved beauty, particularly hair. My mum used to wear a lot of hair extensions when I was a child and that caught my interest that I picked it up. I dropped it after a while when I was in the University of Lagos studying Banking and Finance. After then, I have worked in two banking institutions for six years before I left to go into hair business in particular. I met an Indian man who taught me a little bit of what I know now in the business. When he finally left Nigeria, I continued the business and I am where I am today.

Was it that you considered your banking job less lucrative than business?
No!

Why did you the leave then?
I feel because it was too rigid. I did not have the opportunity to explore my abilities as I would want to. Banking is a bit too uptight because everybody tells you what to do, from top to bottom. Sometimes, you are not even allowed to use your initiatives. I wanted to do something on my own because I come from a family of business people. Moore Enterprises is a business my late dad started from nothing to where it is today. My grandfather and grandmother also did business and I knew that one day, I would grow up leaving the banking sector for full time business. Most bankers have the same dream if you ask them. There is no 9am-5pm worker that won’t say that he doesn’t wish to start his own thing one day. I wanted to use my energy to start my own. I always told myself that I want to use my energy for my own business. I never wanted to retire old and that was how I started early.

Hailing form a business inclined family, how did you start on your own?
I started by saving my salary every month. The Indian man was very generous too. I was at first hesitant because I used to buy from him. He encouraged me to start by selling to my colleagues in the office and I did. My friends always admired what I had on and I would always pay the man with my salary and wait for my colleagues to pay me later. It is important for people to be confident in what you sell and that gives you the opportunity to grow your business. If people know you for good, they will be willing to buy from you and pay you after a while. That was how I started by selling to my colleagues and they began to spread the good word to others. I would say that referrals really built me up in the business. Thanks to my customers.

Can you recall you starting capital then?
(Laughs) About N30,000

So, how did a N30,000 worth business grow to the level it is now?
I started with a lot of credit because I noticed that people who want to buy hair cannot afford what they want. Hair is not cheap. It is luxury. I tell my costumers to buy only what they can afford and not try jump into the lagoon. I started gradually and I said, the Indian man would give me on credit and I would sell to my colleagues who sometimes don’t even pay me. They would just give me words of the mouth until I started building a structure for myself through filling the gap of making people pay by installment. Because I had to deal with bankers, I knew they are people of integrity and when they give me a cheque, the check won’t bounce, although some cheques did bounce. That was how we grew. People would rather patronise the lady who makes you pay by instalments. For now, we have slowed down on cheques because we just want to avoid cheques that would bounce.

Apart from making your customers pay by instalment, how else do you try to satisfy them?

Customer service and relationship management is very important in business. Some customers can be very erratic in their behaviour and you must just know how to manage such people. I learnt that from banking and you have to manage people with all their excesses and tantrums. You also have to sing their praises. I taught my staff to treat customers with a lot of courtesy that you have to always sir and ma them. No matter what they do to them, even when you feel the customer is wrong, you have to treat them like kings and queens, as the case may be.

Is there anything special worth knowing about this line of fashion?
The truth about hair is that authenticity is key. If you sell fake, you lose your customers. You don’t tell the quality of hair by looking at it, you tell by use. This is durability. Hair can be beautiful but when you use it for a while, it turns out bad. The truth is that the customer has purchased it from you and has used it, then she comes back to complain. That is the place of integrity in business and that is why I give my customers guarantee, like I get from my suppliers too. I keep to my word and that is what my customers love and respect me for. When I came into this business in 2010, I was duped and I also had issues with clients returning some goods. Though I lost a lot of money in the process of doing that, today they are my praise singers because they are still with me, till today.

How was the experience when you were defrauded in business?
It was a bad one. I almost gave up but one of my good friends who is in the same business encouraged me never to give up. That is one thing I learnt in banking again. In banking, it has to be just your job alone and they must not know you are doing something else.

What is the major challenge you face as an entrepreneur?

Getting the authentic hair is a big challenge because we don’t have the original in Nigeria; so, one has to go abroad. I have suppliers who supply me from different countries.

And how much money do you make from the business?
Hmmm! Yes, it is lucrative when you have authentic products. People will buy from you if you sell the original.
Understandably, most of your customers are ladies. How do you manage them, considering that they can be difficult to manage?
Mind you, I also have male customers who come to buy for their ladies or so. You just have to be humble managing them. My six years’ experience as a relations manager in the bank hall is enough for me transfer into my business.

What is you driving force?

That would be the smiles on my customers’ faces and the referrals they give me. It makes me always wanting to please them.

What has kept you in business, all these years?
I think that is God and my family. I sell products now but I plan to do it in a bigger way and expand My Hair Clinic. I also teach people how to manage their hair themselves.

Could you highlight the supportive roles you get for your business?
First is from my husband. He is my backbone and chief adviser (laughs). He is a lawyer, a businessman and a former banker too. He is always there, especially those times I almost fell off. Having a husband who supports you is important in being able to run your business. He is a good man. My staff are also very supportive. I have empowered them to be able to take decisions and call me for any one they cannot face.

You have any core value?
Say honesty, integrity and always ensuring I put God first in all I do.

Are there plans to expand your business?
Oh yes! I want to go big time into hair products centred on treating and managing human hair. I see that most ladies don’t know how to manage their hair and I want to go into that and also train people on that.

Do you think Nigeria (Click on the link below to read more)

PoliticsUS Drones To Bomb Northern Nigeria by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 5:44pm On Oct 02, 2016
US Drones To Bomb Northern Nigeria
Punch reports that there are strong indications that the United States government may launch attacks against Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East, as a drone base being constructed in the Niger Republic would soon be completed.
According to reports, the American drone base is under construction in Agadez, a town in Niger.
The facility is expected to offer US military, greater ability to use drones against Islamist extremists in countries like Libya, Mali and Nigeria.
But some security experts told SUNDAY PUNCH that such drone attacks against insurgents in the North might kill innocent people.
The project, considered to be the United States’ most important military construction effort in Africa, according to secret files obtained by an online medium, The Intercept, will gulp $100m.
The construction of the base is an indication that the US is paying more attention to terrorist groups in Nigeria and other countries on the African continent.
“As the only country in the region willing to allow a US base for MQ-9 Reapers — a newer, larger, and potentially more lethal model than the venerable Predator drone — Niger has positioned itself to be the key regional hub for US military operations, with Agadez serving as the premier outpost for launching intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions against a plethora of terror groups,” The Intercept said.
The Americans have for years operated an air base in Niamey, Niger’s capital, but in September 2014 the US African Command announced plans to build a drone facility for “Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance.”
The documents obtained by The Intercept and made available online stated, “The top MILCON [military construction] project for USAFRICOM is located in Agadez, Niger to construct a C-17 and MQ-9 capable airfield.
“Remotely Piloted Aircraft presence in Africa supports operations against seven (Department of State)-designated foreign terrorist organisations.
“Moving operations to Agadez aligns persistent ISR to current and emerging threats over Niger and Chad, supports French regionalisation and extends range to cover Libya and Nigeria.”
Reacting to the development, a member of the American Society of Industrial Security, Prof. Femi Adegbulu, told SUNDAY PUNCH that there was a possibility of collateral damage, should the US launch drone attacks against Boko Haram in the North.
He said, “There are two sets of drones, one for surveillance and the other for attacks. A reconnaissance drone is used for intelligence gathering, while the other kind of drone is used for attacks. There is no 100 per cent accuracy in warfare.
“You lose lives, money, time, and resources. The possibility of collateral damage cannot be ruled out, especially since Boko Haram terrorists are known to use humans as shields when attacked.”
Similarly, a former Director, Department of State Services, Mike Ejiofor, told one of our correspondents that he was concerned about the US military’s plan to launch attacks against Boko Haram from Niger.
“I am worried that the US military will be making such efforts to launch attacks against Boko Haram from outside Nigeria. If the US did not get the nod from the Federal Government to establish its drone base in the country, how could the US military launch attacks against Boko Haram from Niger Republic?”
When the spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Charles Nwodo, was contacted at 3pm, he asked one of our correspondents to give him till 6pm to respond to the story.
However, when he was called again at 6pm, he did not pick the calls placed to his telephone line. Also, Nwodo had yet responded to a text message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.

Christianity EtcThe Times Are Changing In My Favour – Rev. Patricia Tuaweri by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 5:21pm On Oct 02, 2016
A Reverend lady and wife of the Presiding Bishop of Nobles Family Church International (NFCI)), Rev. Patricia Tuaweri, this Sunday got the church enraptured with a highly soul-lifting sermon, which she entitled, The Times are Changing in My Favour.

Drawing her text from Dan. 2:21 and Gen. 1:14, Rev. Tuaweri posited that God is the originator of times and seasons. “Whatever you are going through was programmed by God as part of His plan for your season,” she said; adding that it is the inability of one to sift the positive side of a rough season that makes one complain and grumble.

For the woman of God, every season has both good and bad parts, urging that for one to grow and circumvent a bad season, he must take advantage of both the good and bad parts of the season. “No season, no matter how harsh it may be, is altogether bad, even the odd season has something good inherent in it. Science has proven that it is at night that our bodies repair themselves,” she said.

Citing Prov. 6:10,11, “Yet a little sleep, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man, she sounded a strong note of caution against indolence and idleness. “Go out and work, it is what God sees in your hands that He blesses. When God wants to bless you and He sees nothing in your hands, He blesses nothing,” she said.

Rev. Tuaweri also drew allusion from biblical archetypes to buttress her point that challenging seasons have a way of bringing out the best in people’s lives: It was in the season of war that David emerged a champion, without which he probably would have remained a poor shepherd boy forever. It was also in the season of famine that Joseph emerged a globally acclaimed manager of economy and natural resources.

She concluded that for one to overcome the odds of a challenging season, he must remember where he came from; learn to keep hope alive; learn from the season itself; and resolve that he will outlive the season.

The service, which was tagged Independence Service, featured a special rendition of the Nigerian National Anthem by the church choir, The Noble Tribe; special prayer for the nation by the Presiding Bishop, Bishop Ebiye Philip Tuaweri, and the cutting of cake for October-born brethren.

It would be recalled that the annual conference of NFCI, International Believers’ Summit (IBS) 2016, commences on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at O’Neil Centre, Apo, Abuja at 5.00 p.m everyday till Sunday, October 9, 2016, when the grand finale holds at 8.00 a.m.

So-called superfoods are nutritional powerhouses that help build bones, prevent chronic diseases, improve your eyesight, and even keep your mind sharp. But did you know new evidence suggests these foods can also help you get—and stay—slim?

Read on for the top superfoods for weight loss, and how to pack them into your daily diet!

Black beans
A cup of black beans packs a whopping 15 grams of satisfying protein and doesn't contain any of the saturated fat found in other protein sources, like red meat.
Oats
Oats are rich in fiber, so a serving can help you feel full throughout the day. Just a half cup packs 4.6 grams of Resistant Starch, a healthy carb that boosts metabolism and burns fat.
Avocados
There's no reason to be afraid of eating fats—as long as they're the right fats.

Oleic acid, a compound in avocados' healthy monounsaturated fats (MUFAs), may trigger your body to actually quiet hunger. Stick to a quarter or a half of an avocado and watch that belly fat melt away. The creamy fruit is also packed with fiber and protein.
Salmon
Lean sources of protein help you feel full without adding fat. However, 50% of women ages 18 to 50 don't know if they get enough of this essential nutrient.

Up your intake with salmon; it's a leaner choice than red meat and is chock-full of MUFAs to boot. A 2001 study found that dieters eating a MUFA-rich diet lost an average of 9 pounds, while their low-fat diet counterparts gained, on average, 6.
Blueberries
Best known for their anti-aging effects, blueberries, while tiny, are a powerful figure-friendly eat: A 1-cup serving sets you back only 80 calories, and helps you feel full with 4 grams of fiber.
Broccoli
Cooked or raw, this cruciferous veggie is well-known for its cancer-preventing powers, but with a punch of filling fiber in less than 30 calories a serving, it's bound to prevent weight problems too.
Brown rice
Brown rice is a heartier, fiber-packed alternative to less-than-super white rice. A half-cup serving contains 1.7 grams of Resistant Starch, a healthy carb that boosts metabolism and burns fat.

Plus, brown rice is a low-energy-density food, meaning it's heavy and filling but low in calories. One study found that women who ate a higher-energy-density diet gained three times as much weight over six years than women eating a low-energy-density diet.
Pears
Just one pear packs 15% of your daily recommended amount of fiber. One study found that women who ate three pears a day consumed fewer calories and lost more weight than those who didn't. Ditch the peeler though; the skin is where all that filling fiber is hiding!
Wine
Resveratrol, the famed antioxidant found in grape skin, stops fat storage. Studies show that moderate wine drinkers have narrower waists and less belly fat than liquor drinkers. Downing a glass can boost your calorie burn for a good 90 minutes.
Grapefruit
Even if you changed nothing else about your diet, eating half a grapefruit before each meal may help you lose up to a pound a week!

A compound in the tangy fruit can lower insulin, a fat-storage hormone, and that can lead to weight loss. It's also a good source of protein, and because it's at least 90% water, it can fill you up so you eat less.
Kidney beans
One of several varieties of beans to make the list, red beans offer protein and fiber (more than 5 grams per serving!). Kidney beans are also rich in Resistant Starch; a 1/2-cup serving packs nearly 2 grams of this slimming carb.
Almonds
Nuts are another superfood rich in healthy fats that help you slim down.

Almonds in particular can help you shed pounds: In one study, people who added a daily helping of the nuts to a low-cal diet lost more weight than people who followed the same diet but swapped almonds for a carb-heavy snack like crackers.
Green tea
This steamy sip hydrates like water, which can help fill you up and shed pounds. Plus, the antioxidants in green tea will up your fat burn and calorie burn. One study found that five cups a day could help you lose twice as much weight, most of it around your middle.
Lentils
Lentils are a great source of satiating protein and fiber. A half-cup serving delivers 3.4 grams of Resistant Starch, a healthy carb that boosts metabolism and burns fat.
Bananas
Bananas are a slimming superfood at the heart of Health's CarbLovers Diet. A slightly green, medium-size banana will fill you up and boost your metabolism with its 12.5 grams of Resistant Starch. Even a ripe banana still ranks high on the list of foods containing RS, with almost 5 grams.
Eggs
Eggs get a bad rap when it comes to weight loss. But the breakfast staple is loaded with protein that will curb your appetite. One study found that overweight women who ate egg breakfasts lost twice as much weight as women who started their days with bagels.

And don't worry about cholesterol: The study found that egg eaters don't have higher bad cholesterol or lower good cholesterol than bagel eaters.
Dark chocolate
Chocolate lovers, rejoice! A nibble of dark chocolate here and there can slow down digestion so you feel full longer and eat less at your next meal.

Dark chocolate is full of MUFAs; studies show eating a diet high in these healthy fats can rev your metabolism to burn fat and calories. It may also help by curbing cravings for salt, sweet, or fatty diet-wreckers.
Oranges
At only 59 calories, you may not expect much from an orange, but thanks to a hefty dose of fiber, it ranks highest among fruits on a list of 38 filling foods put together by Australian researchers. Feeling full can help you eat less throughout the day.
Potatoes
True, potatoes are high in carbs, but they are three times as filling as a slice of white bread, and top all the foods on the same satiety index as oranges. Plus, potatoes are also rich in Resistant Starch, which helps your body burn fat.
Pine nuts
Nut lovers don't have to stick to almonds. These tiny bites pack the same heart-healthy fatty acids that quell hunger hormones and burn belly fat. One study found that swapping healthy unsaturated ones like those found in nuts for saturated fats helped overweight people lose weight without reducing calorie intake or upping their exercise.
White beans
One-half cup of these fiber-packed beans contains almost 4 grams of fat-blasting Resistant Starch, a healthy carb that boosts metabolism.
Cheese
Fresh goat cheese and feta contain a fatty acid that helps you feel full and burn more fat. Look for cheeses labeled "grass-fed," as those will have the highest content of this healthy fat.
Low-fat milk
The same fatty acid is found in (Click on the link below to read more)

CrimeNDLEA Arrests Agent For Ingesting 74 Wraps Of Cocaine by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 2:43pm On Oct 01, 2016
Punch reports that officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu State, have arrested a clearing and forwarding agent, who ingested 74 wraps of cocaine while on his way to China.
Spokesperson for the agency, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said on Friday that the suspect,47-year-old Adibe Baloba, was caught during outward screening of passengers on an Ethiopian airline flight to China.
The NDLEA commander at the Enugu airport, Adeofe Adeyemi, was quoted as saying that the cocaine, which Adibe ingested weighed 1.417kgs.
“A second suspect, Onyechi Esonwunne, was caught attempting to send a luggage containing cannabis to China through an unsuspecting passenger. The cannabis was carefully prepared inside packs of noodles to avoid detection. Investigating officers are working hard on the cases and the suspects will soon be charged to court,” Adeofe said.
The agency said its preliminary investigation showed that Esonwunne had previously been deported twice from China – in 2008 and May 2016.
“Hardship and Nigeria’s bad economy forced me into drug trafficking. The exchange rate is very high and I hardly get money to take care of my family. My sponsor promised to pay me the sum of $5,000 to take the drug to China. But I was arrested before I could board my flight,” Adibe told NDLEA agencies in his statement.
Esonwunne also blamed Nigeria’s recession for his crime.

EducationNOUN Shuts Down Another Illegal Study Centre In Ankpa by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 2:10pm On Oct 01, 2016
In furtherance of its war against illegal study centres in the country, the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has shut down another identified illegal study centre in Ankpa, Kogi State.

The illegal centre, allegedly operated by one Professor Abdullahi, was domiciled in the premises of St. Charles College in the town.

Fielding questions from members of the university’s Committee on Illegal Study Centres, the principal of the college, Mr. Adama Umaru Roberts, said that the attitude, carriage and conduct of Abdullahi smack of a fraudster.

“This college is a Catholic school. Before anyone does anything in the premises of a mission school like ours, he must obtain authorization from the Catholic Education Directorate. When Abdullahi approached our former principal on this issue, the director in charge of Education in the Arch-Diocese was contacted. The later asked him to put the request in writing, but he never did,” Roberts said.

“At present, he has gone underground because all the people who registered and paid money to him are looking for him. Even some of our teachers here who registered there have withdrawn,” he continued, adding that since he assumed duties in January as the new principal of the college, he has not seen Abdullahi come to the premises. “The block of classrooms he operated in has long been retrieved by the school authority, the re-erection of the signboard is something that could have been done at night,” he concluded.

“Mr. John James Ubaji, the Deputy Registrar (Council Affairs), who led the NOUN team, explained that there is no single study centre of the university which is owned by an individual. Every study centre of NOUN is owned by the community in which it is sited,” he said, adding that a state government, local government, community or an organization can apply for a study centre and it is established for them when all conditions are met.

BusinessNaira Plunges To 440 As Dollar Inflow Drops by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 10:15am On Sep 26, 2016
Punch reports that the naira was sold at the parallel market for 440 per dollar on Sunday, as the lingering foreign exchange scarcity increased to a new level.
The local currency, which closed at 436/dollar on Thursday, eased to 435 in the early hours of Friday. It closed at 439/dollar.
The naira had closed at 428 to the greenback on Wednesday, down from 424 on Tuesday, as lingering foreign exchange shortage weighed on the economy.
The latest declines in the naira value started on Wednesday, a day after the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Monetary Policy Committee retained the benchmark lending rate at 14 per cent.
The MPC had after its two-day bi-monthly meeting left the Monetary Policy Rate unchanged, rebuffing calls for rates cut by analysts, stakeholders and some government officials, including the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun.
However, economic and currency analysts have said the decline in the value of the local currency against the dollar has nothing to do with the MPC decision.
At the interbank market, the naira closed at 307.79 on Friday. It closed at 307.25, 311 and 312 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday respectively, according to data posted on the FMDQ OTC platform.
“There is shortage of dollar supply. Diaspora remittances have dropped. This is why you can see the rate dropping at the parallel market,” an economic analyst and Chief Executive Officer, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Johnson Chukwu, said.
The development came amid depleting external reserves, which stood at $24.8bn last Monday.
The latest data posted on the CBN website showed that the foreign exchange reserves were down by 3.4 per cent from a month ago to its lowest level in more than 11 years, as the apex bank sells the greenback at the interbank market to support the naira.
Economic and currency analysts had said there had been no significant policy response to the fall in the reserves, further fuelling the concerns.

CelebritiesMy Mum Told Me If I Smiled At Boys For Too Long, I Could Get Pregnant –caroline by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 9:12pm On Sep 25, 2016
Call her the queen of soap operas and you won’t be wrong. The fact remains that Caroline King is a veteran in the acting business. She has conquered the soap operas, movies and even the cinemas. There is absolutely no doubt that the soft-spoken actress is our Nollywood sweetheart. Caroline spoke to Sunday Sun on her relationship with her mum and how it has impacted her life positively.

When last did you see your mum?

That would be during the holidays as she stays in the US with my sister. Recently, when the children were on holidays, they came to Nigeria for three weeks. That was like three months ago, I think.

What food does she cook that you like most?
That is banga soup. Her banga soup is quite tasty.

What’s her favourite meal?
She loves yam and garden egg sauce a lot.

Are you very close to her or not?
Now, I can say yes. Maybe, because I am a mother now and I understand how much she loves me and stuffs like that. But growing up, we were like opposite sides of the pole, because I was more of a daddy’s girl. I had a better relationship with my father than with my mum. I remember there was a time my dad was like she should just give him some space. He said the way she behaved, you could have thought he was married to two women. He told her to talk to me and stop waiting for him to come into the issues.

You mean there was a kind of rivalry between you and your mum?

Yea, kind of, because she felt my dad was too lenient with me. She was just strict and still is very strict. As old as I am, I am over fifty but when she comes in, I still tremble (laughs). You know there are things I can say easily when she is not around but when she is around me, I have to think twice and try to edit it well in my head before I let it out of my mouth.

As a teenager, what did she tell you about boys?
Ha! (Laughs) My mum said if I even allow a boy to smile at me for too long I will get pregnant. It was so bad that she planted that thing in me. I remembered the first time a boy wrote me a love letter in secondary school. I took it home and showed my father because in my mind I felt this boy wants to get me pregnant from the letter (laughs). That was the amount of fear my mum put into me.
But as I became older, I began to understand where she was coming from; I’m the first child and a girl. As I started having children, we now started talking more. I opened up to her and told her the things she did back then. She said she did all that because, if I turned out well, my younger ones would too. She also asked me, “If you had failed and I failed with you, what could have happened to your siblings? So, whatever it was that I was doing was for your good.” But really, I believe she did a fantastic job although I would have preferred some kind of moderation. (Laughs).

What parenting skills did you learn from her that you have inculcated in your kids now?
You know as a young person, you always said you will not be like your mum. But, when you grow older you realize that you are exactly like her. That’s the story of my life really. I will just say that I have imbibed almost everything from her but with moderation and you know the way our children are these days. Growing up, I couldn’t express myself but with my children, I let them express themselves no matter what it is but I don’t fail to emphasize, that they must always say “please”, “thank you” and respect everyone and that they are not better than anybody. You might be better off, because your parents are rich but that doesn’t make other people lesser than you. All these things, I learnt from my mum.

What were the things your mother did that made you realize she loves you?

While growing up, I didn’t think she loved me. It was like she was always on my case and she had traits that I see in myself now. My mum was almost like a perfectionist. So, each time, I had it in mind that I was going to do this already and then she will tell me. But in my mind, I was like, I was going to do it anyway and you know while growing up, especially as a teenager, all those things annoyed me.
However, after I had my first child and she came to help me care for my baby, I think something switched in my brain. That was when I realized, how much she really loves me.

Even then, I couldn’t shake out that distant relationship we had, communication problems and stuffs like that.
However, by the time I had my daughter who is my last born, I now could sit down with her and talk about stuffs that I didn’t like then and then she explains herself. You know, all she did was for me; it wasn’t because she hated me or because she didn’t want me to enjoy life. You see as far as I was concerned then, when friends invited me for parties and I went to my dad, he told me to tell my mum. Then she would scream and ask me questions like “you want to go and do what”? Back then I would say to myself this woman hated me. I wished I could have a better mother and stuffs like that (laughs). Now, I know she loves me so much, when I think about how much I love my children. Even now, my children will say “mummy I don’t even know. I will go and meet my daddy because my daddy loves me more than you do.” But I never let that get to me, because I know when they are older they will understand.

What was her occupation then?
She was a trader, she traded in everything possible. We lived in Lagos for a while and then we moved to the North. It was in Zaria that she really did her business well. When we were in Lagos, she traded in provisions and when we got to Zaria, she traded in clothes. She would come to Lagos and buy George wrappers and ankara and sold. Also, there was a bakery near our residence which supplied bread to her and people bought from her. She was quite an astute businesswoman.

What makes her happy?
Her children make her happy and she would give her life to her children. I mean metaphorically she will. The number two thing that makes her happy is her grandchildren and then she loves to watch sports. She loves boxing, wrestling and other sports. During the Olympics, I am sure she was glued to the television throughout. She is all excited when she watches sports.

What makes her sad?
The saddest I have ever seen my mum was when we lost our dad and we were all afraid and thought she would die too. Another sad moment was when we lost our last born, a boy, two years ago. But she was in the US. I couldn’t even talk to her on phone, because she was crying so much. Her blood pressure shot up and I can imagine if I had seen her. It could have been worse than when our dad died. She is a prayer warrior, my mum can pray for six hours straight without repeating a prayer point. I think what will hurt more is if anything should happen to her children and grandchildren, because we’re all she is living for now.

Does she have a pet name for you?

None that I can remember, she calls me my name. I am the (Click on the link below to read more)

FamilyAbandoned Nine-month -old Baby Found Crawling On Road by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:35pm On Sep 09, 2016
Residents of Shodipo Crescent in the Ikeja Government Reserved Area of Lagos State were shocked on Wednesday to find an abandoned baby boy crawling on the road.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the nine-month-old baby, whose name had yet to be ascertained, was seen crawling by residents, who quickly alerted some policemen on patrol in the area.
Our correspondents gathered that the child was picked up by the policemen and brought to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja.
The baby was thereafter taken for a checkup.
It was gathered that the nine-month-old was believed to have crawled out of his parents’ apartment, although no resident in the area had showed up for the baby boy.
A police source told PUNCH Metro that the child would remain in the police custody until his family showed up with concrete proofs of relationship.
She said, “We found the boy on Shodipo Crescent in the Ikeja GRA. He is about nine months old. He was found crawling on the road. Some residents thereafter alerted some policemen on patrol.
“The police team rescued the baby. So far, nobody has come up to claim the baby. He must have left the custody of his parents or guardian and that is how some children fall into the hands of kidnappers and ritual killers. He is still with us at the command headquarters.”
In a related development, an Indian national was rescued from some gunmen on Wednesday by the police who wanted to abduct him in the Epe area of Lagos State.
Our correspondents gathered that the Indian national, whose name was not disclosed by the police “to protect him”, was working at a construction site near a waterway, when the abductors came in a speedboat and took him away.
A police source told one of the correspondents that there was an exchange of gunfire between some police operatives and the gunmen, who were forced to abandon the Indian on the water, while they fled.
He said, “The Indian was a contractor at a construction site in the Epe area. Some kidnappers had emerged from the waters and abducted the Indian at gunpoint. They were taking him away when some police operatives engaged them in a gun battle.

CrimeDriver Steals UNILAG Lecturer’s ATM Card, Withdraws N2.7m by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:06pm On Sep 09, 2016
A driver, Mayowa Adenuga, has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly stealing his boss’ Automated Teller Machine card and withdrawing over N2.7m.
Also arrested were suspected accomplices in the crime – Adewale Opeyemi, 18, and Jeremiah Iyitoye, 29.
PUNCH Metro gathered that 25-year-old Adenuga, who is also a computer expert, was employed as a driver by a lecturer at UNILAG, Prof. Simbo Banjoko.
It was learnt that the suspect had driven Banjoko to the Bells University on the day of the incident.
While waiting for his boss on the university premises, the driver found Banjoko’s Zenith Bank ATM card in the car and hid it.
Our correspondent gathered that when the victim did not notice that his ATM card was missing, Adenuga used software to uncover the card’s PIN code.
After withdrawing N200,000 from the bank account through the ATM, he allegedly bought four iPhones, valued at N495,000; one Macbook laptop, valued at N415,000; 10 wristwatches, a Blackberry and a ring.
It was learnt that a total of N2,728,255 was withdrawn from the victim’s bank account.
The theft of the ATM card was said to have been referred to the Rapid Response Squad, which later transferred the case to the Anti-Vice Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.
A source said the prime suspect, Adenuga, perfected the crime by blocking his boss’ telephone line so that he would not see the alert of transactions conducted on his account.
He said, “The suspect is the lecturer’s driver. He is also a computer expert. He hid the ATM card for three days and when he saw that the man did not look for it, he used software to get the PIN. He called Adewale (Opeyemi) and handed over the card to him for safekeeping, saying it belonged to his sister.
“When he drove his boss out again at another time, he had access to the man’s phone and deliberately entered the wrong PUK number three times which led to the blockage of the line.”
Our correspondent was told that having succeeded in blocking the line, the suspect contacted Opeyemi and linked him up with another friend, Iyitoye.
He allegedly asked the duo to make transactions with the card on his behalf.
The two men were said to have gone to Shoprite, Ikeja, and Mega Plaza, Victoria Island, where they withdrew N200,000 and purchased the iPhones, Macbook laptop, wristwatches and other items through POS transactions.
It was gathered that the loot was shared among the three men.
A police source explained that Banjoko, who noticed that his telephone line had been blocked, took it to a telecoms centre, where it was reactivated.
“At that point, he received 30 alerts that a total of N2,728,255 had been withdrawn from his account. He reported the matter to the police, and the case was transferred to the RRS.
“When the matter got to the Anti-Vice Section of the SCIID, the police arrested the driver and after interrogation, he confessed to the crime and named his accomplices.

RomanceInside Abuja Sex Slums, How VIPs Sneak Into Harlots’ Dens To Ease Tensions by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 3:54pm On Sep 08, 2016
How VIPs sneak into harlots’ dens to ease tensions

‘Why we are into prostitution’

By FRED ITUA, FRED EZEH, CHIAMAKA NZENWEAKU & ABIGAIL ANOSIKE

In Abuja, the nation’s capital, prostitution is a thriving business. It is a trade predominantly plied by some single ladies. There are male prostitutes, but they are in the extreme minority. Male prostitutes, unlike their female counterparts, do not adorn highways to solicit for female customers.

Abuja has major districts, cities and places where open prostitution takes place. Wuse II is notorious for that. Garki, Maitama, Jabi and a few other places also harbour a handful of daughters of Eve. In these districts, prostitutes and their clients either “relief tensions” inside their vehicles or get a cheap hotel to exchange body fluids.

But there are places in Abuja where another brand of prostitution holds sway, the slums. Abuja slums are scattered everywhere in the city. They lack basic amenities and are often times, temporal places of abode, occupied by homeless people.

The online free Wikipedia describes a slum as a heavily populated urban informal settlement characterized by substandard housing and squalor. While slums differ in size and other characteristics, most lack reliable sanitation services, supply of clean water, reliable electricity, timely law enforcement and other basic services. Slum residences vary from shanty houses to professionally built dwellings that because of poor-quality construction or provision of services have deteriorated into slums.

Disturbed by the growing complaints from Abuja residents of illicit sex activities thriving in some slums within the city, Daily Sun embarked on a fact-finding adventure to unravel the claims. The first point of call was a slum called Kado-Kuchi, just behind a popular supermarket in Jahi District. It is a small slum, but densely populated by all manners of people from every parts of the country.

The slum also serves as a sex haven where special shanties housing prostitutes abound. The irony of it all is that the slum is surrounded by porch houses and it is less than two kilometres from the Ministers’ Hill where top government officials reside. From the entrance leading to the supermarket, one can hear faint noises emanating from the small enclave.
When our correspondents visited the place, they had to abandon their vehicle halfway in order not to incur the wrath of locals who obviously appeared unfriendly. Instead, they opted for the popular Okada (motorbike), which is the common means of transportation in the area. Since they were not familiar with the unfriendly terrain, they decided to conceal their identity.

Luckily, the team of correspondents approached a male resident of the area who briefly obliged to open up on the goings-on in the slum. His name is Femi. According to him, Kado-Kuchi village is a small Sodom and Gomorrah where sex orgies, broad day prostitution and other forms of vices thrive:

“I have been here for a while. Most of the female prostitutes you see hanging out at night in the city stay in this small village. This place takes a different shape at night. Some of these small houses here are occupied by girls who are into prostitution. During the day, some of the girls do other things. They have salons or do menial jobs in the city. But in the night, they transform into something else.

“Then for some of them who are fully into prostitution, they entertain their customers during the day. Some of the big cars you see here come to have sex. They park their cars and walk to their place to have sex. If you do not stay in this place, you may not know what is happening. But we live here and we understand these things

“Sometimes, when the men come out after sex, they have serious arguments with the girls over payment and other things. We just stay here and look. If you go round this area, you will see used condoms everywhere. Some of the girls and men do not even dispose the used condoms very well.”

Femi who hesitated to speak further, suspecting that the correspondents were security operatives, pretending to be regular customers who are in the slum to ease tension, referred us to speak with other people who may give us additional information.

Not relenting, Daily Sun approached commercial motorcyclists to enquire how they could locate the neighbourhood housing prostitutes. Interestingly, they obliged to ferry the correspondents to the exact location where the daughters of Eve reside. One of the correspondents decided to approach one of the girls who appeared friendly.

Since recording the conversation could attract the wrath of other girls observing from a distance, the conversation was paraphrased. The girl did not disclose her name: “If you want to have sex, we will agree. You can have it with me alone or you pick as many as you can pay for. We do not mind.

“Sometimes, three or four of us sleep with one man. We also have a sex party in this our place where men come and we service them as long as they pay well. For us, it is about money. We do not have anything after that. Some of the men have our phone numbers. We negotiate on the phone sometimes before they come here.

“There are some cheap guest houses here. If you do not like it here, you can take us to the guest houses. They are cheap. It is just N500 for 30 minutes. But if you want to spend additional 30 minutes, you pay extra money, depending on the manager of the place. But for us, you cannot last for more than 15 minutes. You have to ejaculate quickly otherwise you will pay for extra time. We always tell you these things in order to avoid any trouble.

“As for what you are to pay us, it is negotiable. It ranges from N1,000 to N1,500, depending on how beautiful the girl is. But there are other side attractions you pay for if you want extra services. If you want to suck breasts, you pay N500. For Mouth Action you pay N500. For anal sex, it attracts N500 or N1,000. We agree on these things and you pay before service so that we will not have any problems after the whole thing.

“If you want us to come and service you in your house, we can come. You will have to give us the kind of women you want and we will come there. This is our life. Many of us have families we take care of and we also have children. We are not doing this because we like it. But we have to survive. We do not want to steal. That is why we are doing it.”

Findings revealed that the village head of the place has been making frantic efforts to chase out the prostitutes. It was gathered that the head in recent times, invited the police to arrest and chase out girls involved in money for sex trade. But for now, it appears that the efforts of the village head are not yielding the needed results, as the sex trade volume is increasing..

Most Nigerians that are abroad are yearning to have their own homes back in Nigeria and are often at a loss because they want a mortgage loan from Nigerian banks. Contrary to what most people believe, getting a mortgage in Nigeria is not such a difficult task, provided one can meet the bank’s requirements, especially while living abroad. Often, the difficulty arises from the bureaucratic bottleneck that is involved in securing these mortgages. However, if one follows these steps, securing a mortgage will be easy.

Getting Started
To start the process you need to to go to the bank to secure the loan in person. You can get a friend or relative to pick up the forms and courier or scan them to fax or email to you so that you will have the necessary documents. You must also have collateral, which you will use in securing the loans. Typical things used for collateral include a house, landed property, and shares certificates. The value of the collateral largely depends on the amount you are borrowing from the bank.

Documents You'll Need
Some of the necessary documents you will need to apply for include your international passport, your resident permit in the country where you are staying, proof that you are gainfully employed in your country of residence, and your tax clearance. When you are filling out the application form, make sure that you provide accurate information, as giving the wrong information could lead to your application being denied. This has been a major problem encountered by people while trying to secure loans.

When returning the form, ensure that you have:
• Fully completed the Home Loan application form (signatures verified)
• Your pay slips from the last 3 months
• Immediate past 12 months salary account statements, if you are a new customer
• Letter of introduction from employer’s HR
• Copy of company ID card
• Copy of valid means of identification (international passport, driver’s license or national ID Card)
• Copy of title documents to the property (if being used as collateral)
• Valuation report from a Bank approved valuer
• Details of any existing loans
• Proof of loan purpose
• Most recent utility bill
• Guarantor’s letter (two guarantors are required)
Self-employed applicants can follow this same procedure. There is undoubtedly much work that must be done to acquire a mortgage in Nigeria, especially if you are currently living abroad, but if you follow the steps and take your time, your efforts will certainly be rewarded.
Most bankers advise that it is imperative for anyone who wants a mortgage to purchase land first. This will show your readiness to build and it will also serve as collateral in case you default on your loan.

Online colleges and online education more generally have seen an enormous increase in student e-learners over the last decade. Ten years ago, America saw around 2 million higher education students learning online. That number has now almost quadrupled.
According to a 2015 report by Babson Research titled Tracking Online Education in the United States, today the number of college students learning online exceeds 7 million. With the overall higher education student body in the U.S. currently at 21 million, that means one out of three college students is taking at least one course entirely online.
It’s therefore no surprise that online colleges and universities, which focus on delivering course content exclusively online, have proliferated. These schools enable students to finish a degree program and graduate with little more than a laptop and internet connection.
Nonetheless, online colleges and universities differ widely in quality. Moreover, with increasing competition for online students, many campus-based schools are now getting into the mix and offering online degrees. For this reason, rankings of online colleges and universities need to be regularly updated. Hence this ranking of the top 50 online colleges for 2016.
Although online education gives students unrivaled flexibility in pursuing a degree program, it is not right for everyone. Online education requires self-discipline and a set of study skills that some students on first attending college may lack. For this reason, we have supplemented this ranking with our highly informative “Savvy Student’s Guide to Online Colleges and Online Education” (located below right after our ranking).

This ranking of the best online colleges and universities, along with the supplemental student guide at the end, is meant to help you, the prospective student, make wise choices about your online education. This ranking identifies colleges and universities offering a high-quality online education. Note that traditional campus-based schools appear here only if they offer an extensive and robust array of online degree programs.

PoliticsEnemies Jealous Of My Rising Profile –jonathan by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:54pm On Aug 19, 2016
Punch reports that Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has again denied allegations that he is sponsoring the Niger Delta Avengers.
He added that the allegation was being sponsored by those who were intimidated by his rising profile in Nigeria and abroad.
The former President said this in a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, on Thursday.
There had been publications that the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government had begun probing Jonathan over alleged link to the Niger Delta Avengers.
The statement, however, said, “It is sad that the publications wore the cloak of deceit from the same misguided characters that are hell-bent on pulling down the former President despite his clear record of diligent service to his country and long-standing commitment to the good of the society.
“There is no doubt that there exists such people who may have scores to settle with the former President, but are now feeling frustrated by the fact that his national and international profiles have continued to rise despite their recourse to endless muck-raking character assassination. Such people will stop at nothing to continue to throw obstacles, albeit futilely, on his path.
“We are aware that the same people approached other well-meaning newspapers with the same false information, but they were wise to turn it down on account of its absurdity.”
Jonathan advised the media to be professional and do more of investigative reporting instead of making reference to allegations of aggrieved militants.
He said no responsible security agency (Click on the link below to read more)

CelebritiesSerial Rapists Should Be Castrated –ireti Doyle by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 12:04pm On Aug 19, 2016
Recently, there is virtually no day that a rape case is not reported in the news in Nigeria. Due to this fact, ace Nollywood diva, Ireti Doyle, has given her two cents views about the matter. According to the screen diva, serial rapists should have their manhood cut off if convicted.
She said, “In Nigeria, as in almost everywhere in the world, I do not think that rape cases are handled properly often times. What makes it worse for us in Nigeria is that in advanced countries, they have strict laws and most times, the law is enforced and justice is done. In Nigeria, we have laws in place but are they enforced as they should be? I don’t think so. But I am happy that there is a lot more conversation about it. People tend to think that rape is on the increase but I don’t think so; I think it has always been a part of our society but you are hearing a lot more about it now because people are talking about it. That veil of secrecy has been removed and the more we talk about it, the more we blow the whistle against the offenders. Eventually I think we would get it right. We need to put stronger laws in place and enforce them and justice must be done.
“When you hear about a law that castrates rapists, you may think it is extreme but when you think of the ripple effect, the damage that rape causes not just to the victims but people around them, you might want to rethink. I think that the punishment should be hard especially for repeat offenders. Maybe if you are a first time offender, the law might give you room for rehabilitation but if you are a repeated offender, they should cut off your manhood.”

BusinessNaira Sinks To All-time Low Of 365.25/dollar by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 11:40am On Aug 19, 2016
Punch reports that the naira traded at an all-time low of 365.25 to the dollar on Thursday in a single interbank market trade of $1m, Thomson Reuters data showed.
Interbank trading started two hours after the market opened and offered the currency sharply lower against the dollar. A total of $13m had been traded by 1235 GMT.
The naira plunged to a record low and forwards rose, suggesting traders expect further depreciation, as the economy struggles amid a dearth of dollars.
Three-month non-deliverable forward contracts climbed by 4.1 per cent to 364.5 against the greenback, Bloomberg reported.
Contracts maturing in a year rose by 3.5 per cent to 403, also a record.
The local currency has slumped by 38 per cent since the Central Bank of Nigeria ended a 16-month peg of 197-199 per dollar on June 20.
The capital controls needed to defend the fix sent foreign investors fleeing and took the economy to the brink of recession.
The International Monetary Fund forecasts a 1.8 per cent contraction of the economy this year.
“There’s still a lot of demand for dollars,” Craig Thompson of Nyon, Switzerland-based brokerage Continental Capital Partners SA, said in a telephone interview.
“The central bank has been supplying them. They sold some at 309 on Wednesday to keep the rate down. They’ve been selling dollars most days to keep it going above 320 and have done their best to try and keep it closing around 310. Managing the exchange rate is difficult because there’s pent-up demand,” he added.

CelebritiesI Once Got Aroused While Kissing On Set –OC Ukeje by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 11:11am On Aug 19, 2016
OC Ukeje is one of the actors in Nollywood who try as much as possible to put life in every character he plays.
In some of the movies, the actor has had to kiss some of his colleagues because it was part of the script.
Even though it’s all an act, OC confessed the scene actually affected him and, he became aroused while kissing the actress on the set.
OC said, “It has happened to me before that I was moved when acting a romantic scene but when it happened, I was involved with the actor in real life. I cannot speak for other films I am going to do later. You can find a girl super attractive and when you guys are kissing, blood starts flowing south ward. But I generally just try to remember that it is a job and I do what I have to do and leave the place. Fortunately it has worked for me so far apart from the one time that it happened.”
He added that he’s blessed with a supportive wife who has not frowned at any of his romantic roles yet.
“I have the responsibility of making sure that whatever I do is tasteful because what we are doing is not easy for our spouses. It is important to make sure that anything you are doing is tasteful enough so that whoever sees it likes what it looks like and that is what your wife gets to see. That it also adds to the story is important otherwise it would be an excuse to be kissing in films. My wife has been very supportive and I don’t think she has frowned at any one yet. I am just a lucky guy.”
Even as he is a popular actor, OC hardly features in the normal ‘home videos’ that have flooded the industry.
In his reaction, OC said it wasn’t pride that has made him not to feature in those movies.
“I don’t think I am biased by not featuring in home videos. I think everything is a conversation. I have been approached but it I think that the process of deciding to make a movie takes a lot of time. As a producer who wants an actor on a project, you have to send a script to him; the actor would then read it and decide if he wants to work on it.
“I find out from my experience that (Click on the link below to read more)
