CrimeThree Die As Cults Clash Over Ticketing by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 4:51pm On Jun 10, 2016
Punch reports that no fewer than three people have died following bloody clashes between two rival cults, identified as Maphite and Vikings.
The groups were reportedly fighting over the control of ticket issuance to tricycle operators in Calabar, Cross River State.
Punch Metro learnt on Thursday that trouble started at about 1pm on Wednesday when a key figure in the Vikings, Emmanuel Actor, was trailed and murdered by the rival Maphite group on Palm Street in the Calabar South area.
It was learnt that Actor, who allegedly controlled the issuance of tickets to commercial tricycle operators along Nelson Mandela Street, went to an area controlled by the rival group on Egerton Street and stabbed a key opponent in an attempt to expand his territory.
The Maphite group was said to have immediately regrouped and trailed Actor to Palm Street where he was brought out from his tricycle and hacked to death.
The group reportedly started shooting sporadically along major business routes in Calabar South, which forced traders to shut down business activities.
It was gathered that another Vikings member was killed on Etta-Agbor Road, while the clash, which continued on Thursday, also claimed the life of another unidentified cultist on Richard Henshaw Street by Edibe-Edibe Road.
An eyewitness, Mr. Okereke Mong, said the cultists on Wednesday terrorised Calabar-South for more than four hours without interference from any security agencies.
He said, “They started the fight on Egerton Street. I learnt that Emmanuel Actor, who was the immediate past leader of Vikings group attempted to take over the issuance of tickets to tricycle operators on Egerton Street. In the process of trying to assert control, he stabbed one of the Maphite members with a broken bottle.
“Hours later, the group trailed him to Palm Street and intercepted his tricycle. They brought him out and shot him. They also used axes to break open his skull. He bled to death. They waited till he breathed his last before leaving the place. The incident lasted for over one hour and there was no police intervention.
“The police arrived after the incident. The same group proceeded to Etta-Agbor to kill (Click on the link below to read more)

SportsAfrican Legends, FIFA Boss Pay Tribute To Keshi by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 12:50pm On Jun 10, 2016
Tributes have flooded in from African football legends and FIFA for Stephen Keshi.
The former Nigeria captain passed away in the early hours of Wednesday in Benin at the age of 54.
Former South Africa captain Phil Masinga; ex-Ghana attacker Nii Odartey Lamptey; ex-South Africa defender Neil Tovey; ex-Zambia captain Kalusha Bwalya; and ex-Ghana defender Mohammed Gargo said they were devastated by Keshi’s passing.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino; South Africa coach Shakes Mashaba; and South African Football Association President Danny Jordaan said they were saddened and shocked by the death of the former NNB captain.
“It is a big loss for the whole African football fraternity…especially Nigeria,” former Bafana Bafana forward, Masinga who faced Keshi in a 1994 World Cup qualifier in Lagos, told Goal on Thursday.
“He did so much for Nigeria as a player and as a coach.
“I played against him in the early 90’s, we faced Nigeria in Lagos if I remember correctly
“He was a very good defender, a well respected player in Nigeria…as a captain the players had a lot of respect for him.”
Former Black Stars playmaker Lamptey, who Keshi was accused of smuggling to Belgium to sign for Anderlecht, told Kasapa 102.5 FM said the deceased did a lot for him.
He said, “I stayed with him for a minimum of six months and he fed me on a daily basis, encouraged me and all that
“He did a lot for me. My first contract I signed in Europe- Belgium he went with me and signed the contract for me. What he’s done for me I can’t pay him back. I appreciate him a lot.”
Former Black Stars and Borussia Dortmund defender Gargo said, “I am really surprised to hear that Keshi is no more I cannot even believe it.
“I am a Muslim and I believe that we will all die one day but to think that Kesi would be gone so soon was thinkable.”
Bwalya said he had lost his “good brother”.
He told PowerFM “He was a funny guy and a leader but didn’t impose himself on people but people who spoke to him walked away thinking ‘I have spoken to a real man’. Stephen was a big man of Africa and the world so my sincere condolences to his family.”
Infantino wrote on FIFA’s website, “I would like to express my deepest sympathy on hearing the news of the loss of the Nigeria great Stephen Keshi.
“On behalf of the international football community, please allow me to extend my deepest condolences to the football community of Nigeria and, most importantly, to Stephen’s family, friends and love ones. We hope that, in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness.”
Mashaba said, “Words cannot describe this shocking loss. Keshi was not only a giant of African football but was a global football icon.”
Jordaan said by virtue of SAFA’s close links with the Nigerian Football Federation, his association with Keshi were equally strong and intimate.
He told Goal, “At 54, Keshi was one of the bright young coaches coming out of this continent and having been a captain and solid player during his playing days, you can’t find a better individual whose life was wholly dedicated to the game of football.”

FamilyMarriage Readiness by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 10:15am On Jun 08, 2016
There’s more to a successful marriage than just finding the right person. Most often, it means being the right person first to make things work. If you think that just by finding Mr. or Ms. Right will magically make your marriage perfect, then think again. Marriage is a life-long commitment that demands both individuals maturity, compassion, understanding, commitment and unending love. In short, there are a number of aspects that need to be worked on.
For a marriage to work, you need to be absolutely sure that you are ready for this life-long journey. Above all, it involves knowing who you are, your talents, weaknesses, interests, values and expectations. Out of this knowledge comes the answer; are you really ready for marriage and commit yourself freely and joyously to your beloved?
Ready or not? Know the Signs of Marriage Readiness
Suddenly it seems that everyone around you is pairing off, getting married and starting a family of their own. You are truly happy for them but can’t help to wonder if you too will someday have the same. Marriage is a significant step to take in a relationship. Also not everyone that takes this step is necessarily ready to get married. There are lots of couples that get married prematurely because they think it’s a natural progression in a relationship which is not always the case.
People hold the common faulty belief that you love someone, you marry and you just live happily ever after. Well, at least that’s what we see in the movies, right? In reality, there’s a lot more to it than that. It’s a big commitment and involves work to make it successful, healthy and long lasting. It doesn’t just work on its own without you being intentional about it. So how do you know if you and your partner are truly ready to getting married?
Be the right partner
Finding the right partner is just as important as being the right partner. Do some self-exploration and identify what strengths you bring to the relationship. What positive attributes do you possess that help to strengthen the partnership? What are some areas that you need to further grow and develop in? We all have flaws so it’s important that you become aware of your individual flaws and start your unending journey toward personal growth. Being the right partner also means that you acknowledge and accept that you are responsible for creating your own experience. You own your thoughts and choose the attitudes that you bring to the relationship thus contributing to your overall experience with your partner.
A Marriage – not just a wedding
Some people are in love with the idea of a wedding and the planning of a wedding. The thought of the beautiful dresses, the flowers, the gathering of family and friends for a big celebration and even the honeymoon that follows is an exciting thought for many people. A wedding lasts for just a few hours but the marriage will last a lifetime (hopefully!). Be honest with yourself about what you’re really after. Is it just the wedding or the lifetime commitment? While planning the big day is a lot of work and can be a lot of fun, the real work starts when the marriage begins.
Total acceptance
Honesty is a cornerstone of any healthy and meaningful relationship. You need to be able to be honest with your partner about everything, including the deepest, ugliest truths about yourself that you have never dared to share with anyone else. Unconditional love is at the core of a marriage. Your partner needs to be able to accept all of you, which includes the parts that aren’t so lovely or that you believe aren’t so lovely. You need to be able to do the same for your partner. If you never share those less desirable parts of yourself does your partner really know who they are marrying?
Would you want to marry someone that you truly don’t know? Acceptance is not the same as “tolerating”. It’s simply the result of an honest dialogue that leads to an acknowledgement of something that is not accepted. When you accept something, you let go of the fruitless attempt at “changing” your spouse into the person you want them to be and the person they are not. The paradox of acceptance is that, through acceptance, change can occur on its own.
Value congruence and compatibility
While you and your partner may not find that you are compatible with all things, there are some key areas where compatibility is needed for a successful marriage. Value congruence is when you are living in accordance with your personal values and beliefs. If you find that you often abandon your values and beliefs to suit your partner, then there may be some issues of compatibility in your relationship. While you and your partner’s values and beliefs may (Click on the link below to read more)

RomanceWoman, 36, Breastfeeds Lover To Keep Fit by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:36pm On Jun 07, 2016
Jennifer Mulford took time off from her job as a bartender to establish breastfeeding because she wants to start an Adult Breastfeeding Relationship (ABR) with Brad Leeson.
Because she has not given birth to a baby, she and Brad, 36, need to ‘dry feed,’ every two hours to fool her body into thinking she is feeding a child so she starts producing milk.
Jennifer was single when she stumbled across a website about ABR.
She said: “When I read about the bond breastfeeding could create between two people I was envious.
“I have always enjoyed my breasts being touched during sex more than anything else so I knew I would enjoy it.”
Jennifer, from Atlanta, started searching for men who be open to the idea of adult breastfeeding.
“When I read about the pure joy it brought others, I was desperate to seek out a partner to share an emotional bond with.
“I used dating sites, put messages on ABR forums and even put an advert on Craigslist, but I drew a blank. I started to think I’d never get to try adult breastfeeding.”
Finally she started chatting about the idea one night to Brad, an old boyfriend from school.
“We were talking and Brad told me he had a thing for big-breasted women, and that size had always been a factor in his relationships.
“I thought it was the perfect time to bring up adult breastfeeding – and see if he’d be interested,” said Jennifer.
Thankfully, Brad was instantly open to the idea. “It was like a light switched flicked in his head. I could tell from his voice that he was curious and excited.”
He started doing his own research into ABR and they soon became more than just friends.
She said: “At that moment I knew that I had a partner for life.
“We both wanted the same thing out of the relationship – a magical bond that only breastfeeding an achieve.”
Because Jennifer hadn’t breastfed for over 20 years, she had no milk to feed Brad with.
The couple need to induce lactation by dry-feeding and pumping her breasts every two hours, just as if she was feeding a baby.
“I’ve taken a break from my job because I want to devote everything to making this work,” she said.
If Brad is out, Jennifer uses a pump or her hand so her body thinks someone is feeding. They even set an alarm so they can “feed” during the night.
“Nights have been a struggle because Brad sleeps so peacefully but we manage to cope – until he falls asleep latched onto me, which is beautiful,” she admitted.
To help bring milk in Jennifer drinks Mother’s Milk Tea – a herbal drink which is said to imitate female hormones and increase or maintain milk supply – three times a day.
She is also taking a herbal pill, Lactiful, and has added oatmeal and flax seeds to her diet which is said to help milk supply.
There are other benefits for Jennifer and Brad. As a self-confessed gym buff, Brad is excited about the health benefits he’ll receive from Jennifer’s milk.
“Brad goes to the gym because it makes him feel good about himself knowing he is shape and living a healthy lifestyle. He also tells me all the time that he does it for me because he wants other women to feel jealous of what I have,” said Jennifer.
“He is a real alpha male but behind closed doors this relationship lets him put his guard down, be submissive and allow himself to be loved 100 per cent.”
Jennifer is proud of her relationship but doesn’t want to feed him in public.
“If it was up to Brad we would, but it’s very private to me.
“I’ll never say never but I love the time we spend nursing alone. It’s our time away from the rest of the world and I look forward to every feed.”
The couple hope to get married in the near future, but they have ruled out having any children together. They both have children from previous relationships.
“We are content with what we’ve got, but I can’t wait to be Mrs Leeson one day.”
Jennifer breastfed her own daughter, now 20, for eight months.
“I can still remember the connection I felt with her as I held her and she fed. It’s something I will never forget.”
So far, nursing is going well.
“After three days my breasts were starting to feel sore, but I am willing to push through any pain for our end goal.”
The couple have also faced other problems.
“It’s been difficult to distinguish the difference between nurturing and sex,” Jennifer explained. “Although it’s so beautiful and peaceful it’s also erotic. It’s been hard to get through the first few nursing sessions without being tempted to (Click on the link below to read more)

CrimeI Didn’t Kill My Friend, He Stabbed Himself – Suspect by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 12:38pm On Jun 07, 2016
A murder suspect, Ademola Wasiu, has denied that he stabbed his friend, Lekan Omotosho, to death on Lagos Island, Lagos State.
The 21-year-old bricklayer said the victim was the one who picked a bottle to stab him, adding that during the scuffle, the deceased fell on the splinters and died from the injuries.
PUNCH Metro had reported that Wasiu, an indigene of Osun State, allegedly stabbed the 30-year-old mechanic apprentice to death on Ajele Street on the Lagos Island for refusing to charge his telephone.
The victim’s boss, Olayinka Oyinloye, had said he warned Omotosho against the friendship after he (Omotosho) was arrested by the police for a crime allegedly committed by the suspect.
But Wasiu, who had earlier begged for forgiveness, recanted, saying he did not kill the victim.
He explained that he fought the deceased after he challenged him for stopping a man from going to sleep on a construction site.
He said, “I am a bricklayer and I am a professional at my job. I may be an orphan, but God is my defender. I don’t know anything about the death.
“Usually, we all sleep at a construction site and the owner of the building said we should stop sleeping there. I had stopped going there after I got another construction work. But once in a while, I buy noodles there.
“On that night, a man attempted to sleep at the site and I stopped him from going there. But Omotosho, who saw me, challenged me for stopping the man. He asked why I did not mind my business.
“I slapped him in anger for talking to me anyhow and he went to grab a bottle which he smashed on the floor. He fell inside the gutter while we wrestled and got stabbed in the armpit in the process.
“I took him to (Click on the link below to read more)

EducationUNILAG Students Drown In Beach During Friend’s Birthday by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 10:46am On Jun 07, 2016
Tragedy struck on Sunday as two postgraduate students of the University of Lagos drowned in the Elegushi Beach during the celebration of their friend’s birthday.
It was learnt that the deceased – Adesola Ogunmefun and Funmi Odusina – graduated from the Covenant University and were on the verge of bagging Master’s Degrees in International Law and Diplomacy from UNILAG.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the deceased and the host were having fun at the beach around 6pm when they were swept into the Atlantic Ocean.
Other visitors to the beach were said to have rescued them, but Ogunmefun died on the spot.
Odusina and the host, identified only as Bolu, were rushed to some private hospitals in the area, but were reportedly rejected. Odusina died on the way to the Lagos Island General Hospital, while Bolu was recuperating in the facility.
A friend of the deceased, Edward Onyemathi, said the deaths could have been avoided if adequate safety gadgets were provided at the beach.
He described the duo as brilliant, adding that their demise was a huge loss and painful.
Onyemathi, said, “I learnt Bolu was celebrating her birthday and they went to the beach. While they were there, a strong wave swept them into the ocean. They were rescued by some swimmers. Sola (Ogunmefun) died on the spot, but the host and Funmi (Odusina) were rushed to some private hospitals in the area. They were rejected in the hospitals. Funmi died on the way to the Marina General Hospital. Bolu made it, but she had not fully recovered. She will be the best person to give the detailed account of the incident.
“We all studied International Relations at the Convenant University and graduated together in 2011. Funmi was among the most intelligent students we had in our class. She had been my friends even after we graduated. Sola was quiet with charming smiles. They were really good friends and were among the best.”
Another friend, who did not want her name in print, ordered the management of the beach to apologise for “their safety lapses” which allegedly caused the deaths. She also called on the government to inspect the beach and take appropriate actions.
She said, “Elegushi Beach collected money from them before they entered. In a beach, the regular thing is to have life guards, drugs and ambulance. If they had those things, my friends will still be alive. It was their negligence that led to their deaths. The management of the beach should send an apology to the families and the beach should be shut by the government until it has life guards and wave alarm system, among others.
“Funmi was very brilliant. Sola and Funmi just finished their theses in UNILAG, where they were studying International Law and Diplomacy.”
Asked to let our correspondent speak with the deceased’s parents, the friend said “they are grieving at the moment.”
On Twitter, colleagues of the deceased expressed their shock at the deaths, which they blamed on the alleged inadequacies of the beach management.
“I’m honestly still trying hard to accept the news. I’ve not been myself all day. My heart bleeds,” a friend, Temie, wrote.
Another friend, Kay, while lamenting the incident, wrote, “What would it cost to have life guards, emergency medical units and patrol units at the beach?”
“Sola and Funmi died like that. Countless people lost their lives due to lack of safety protocols at the Eleguish Beach,” Edward wrote.
Marc wrote, “Funmi and Sola were two of the most amazing people I have ever met in my life. I am so grateful for their friendship. Sola was a true friend in every sense. Funmi was ever ready to help. This is sad.”

EducationFive JAMB Officials Lose Positions, Others Face Demotion by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 5:18pm On Jun 06, 2016
Following their indictment in the various irregularities that characterised the conduct of 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), five state and zonal coordinators of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have been relieved of their positions.

New Telegraph gathered that the Disciplinary Committee set up by management of the Board to probe the involvement of 15 state and zonal coordinators before and during the conduct of UTME in March recommended that the five affected coordinators should be transferred from their respective states and zones. Some of the officials who are still facing the panel risk demotion.

The committee held that the officials failed to coordinate their respective states and zones well, which led to hitches and protests during and after the examination. Part of the responsibilities of state and zonal coordinators was to examine and accredit centres for the conduct of the examination.

But many of them failed in this responsibility before the last UTME as centres they certified okay and accredited as having all necessary requirements for the conduct of the examination later proved contrary.

A source within JAMB revealed that the management has since carried out the recommendation, noting that the punishment was served on them about two weeks ago. He, however, added that the committee has yet to complete its work as other officials indicted in the aftermath of 2016 UTME are still being investigated. The source added that some of them face demotion as the committee may recommend such.

The source further revealed that the five officials were earlier told to resign their appointments with the Board after which they would face prosecution. But he said the management might have changed its decision to give them a soft landing by relieving them of their positions and responsibilities. “They were to resign from the Board’s service and face prosecution because the Registrar was really angry with what they did.

But I think the punishment has been reduced and they have been transferred demoted,” he said. Confirming the punishment, Public Relations Officer of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, told New Telegraph on phone that about five state and zonal coordinators of the Board indicted for irregularities that marred the last UTME have been punished. “They have been punished over two or three weeks ago. Some of them were transferred or demoted.

Some of them are state or zonal offices coordinators,” he said. He also confirmed that the committee is still continuing with its work even as he added that the management has acted on the recommendations made by the committee, saying, “it (the committee) is still sitting.”

Some JAMB officials are facing disciplinary committee for extorting money from candidates before the conduct of the examination, even as some of them were caught on camera in states such as Edo, Rivers and Lagos.

According to the spokesperson for the Board, all those found guilty of aiding and abetting examination malpractice in the conduct of last UTME face sack and prosecution. Those found guilty risk seven-year jail term as contained in the JAMB Act. “The minimum punishment is to be sacked.
They may be sacked and jailed for seven years, because that is what the JAMB Act says. Anybody who is involved in examination malpractice will be sentenced to seven years in jail,” Fabian had said.

New Telegraph had, on March 21, exclusively reported that 15 state coordinators of JAMB were served queries by the management of the Board over their role in the shabby conduct of the examination.

It was also reported that the Registrar of the Board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, was (Click on the link below to read more)

CrimeNAF Ready For Showdown With Militants by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 4:33pm On Jun 06, 2016
All is now set for the battle of supremacy between the new militant group, Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF), and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), as the group’s deadline to launch six missile in the region expires tomorrow.
Already, NAF says it had deployed ad¬ditional platforms, comprising fighter aircraft, helicopter gunship and surveil¬lance aircraft to enhance its capability to undertake offensive air operations and intelligence gathering in support of the surfaces forces.
NAF says it would not fold its arm and allow a “small group of criminals” dictate the pace.
Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Abubakar Sadiq, who made this known while com¬missioning some projects on NAF bases at Yola, Adamawa State and Maiduguri, Borno State said already, the NAF, has in¬tensified its deployment in the Niger Delta region to deal with the emerging threats of economic sabotage.
Abubakar, while saying that the NAF will not rest on its oars “until we ensure the protection of every inch of the country’s territory and infrastructure” urged mem¬bers of the public not to panic on sighting low level flying aircraft.
He equally enjoined the public to go about their legitimate businesses even as he appealed for useful information that would lead to the whereabouts and activi¬ties of the militant group.
The new militant group threatened to commence the testing of its six missiles which would last for three days.
However, there were discordant tunes within the militant groups operating in the region with other group warning against the killing of soldiers and oil workers.
The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) which claimed responsibility for the ongoing attacks on oil installations, disassociated itself from threats to launch missiles in the region.
It said it would allow the Nigerian mili¬tary to first start the war so that “when it is time to engage the military in combat the whole world will know they started the war, not the Avengers.”
But the NAF said it would not take the discordant messages from the group for granted saying that its deployment was necessitated by the recent spate of attacks on the nation’s oil and gas installations.
To this end, the NAF said it increased air operations around critical (Click on the link below to read more)

The Lagos State Police Command says alleged wife killer, Lekan Shonde, will be tried for murder.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, told PUNCH Metro on Thursday that the suspect would be arraigned in court today (Friday) for allegedly killing his wife, Ronke.
This is just as our correspondent learnt that the remains of the late Ronke would soon be buried.
It was gathered that the corpse had been released to her family by the police after the conclusion of autopsy on Wednesday.
It was learnt that the family members had fixed Friday (today) for the burial, but could change their mind.
This is just as a member of the family said they were not excited about Lekan’s arraignment.
The source, who did not want to be identified because the family did not want any further report on the matter, said the victim’s mother had insisted that she had forgiven 51-year-old Lekan.
PUNCH Metro had reported that Lekan, who worked in a port in the Apapa area, had allegedly beaten his wife Ronke to death.
Lekan was said to have fled the house, and in a telephone interview with our correspondent while in hiding, he had denied killing his wife of eight years.
He said the victim was the one who cheated on him with the general manager of her company, Kayode Oluokun.
Oluokun, had however shunned attempts by our correspondent to hear his side of the story, saying he needed time.
However on Wednesday, pathologists at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital released a report which stated that Ronke died from respiratory seizure.
She was also said to have had water in her brain and some bruises on the head.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the family had decided to bury Ronke anytime from Friday.
A source said, “The family has decided to bury her quietly and it appears to be a family arrangement together with some family friends.”

PoliticsNLC Leaders Meet Saraki, Dogara, Say Strike Continues by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 10:53am On May 20, 2016
The President, Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, and his team met for about 40 minutes behind closed-doors on Thursday evening, with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to discuss the nationwide strike over the hike in fuel price.
Wabba told journalists after the parley that the strike would continue until the Federal Government resumed talks with the NLC, under his leadership, on the crisis.
The NLC team, however, told the Senate leadership that the workers were ready to go back to the negotiation table with the Federal Government over the fuel matter any time invitation to that effect was extended to them.
He debunked reports that labour leaders walked out on the negotiation team of the Federal Government on Tuesday night before the strike commenced on Wednesday.
Wabba said, “We are trying to engage government in negotiations essentially about the trade issue, about the electricity tariff but importantly about the increase in the pump price of PMS from N87 to N145 and we have assured the Senate President that at no point had we walked out on the government.
“In fact, when those issues were presented and the position of government was made known to us, we did not actually agree and we requested that we excused them.
“We have not at any point walked out on government and we are still open to discussion and dialogue because we are also doing this in the best interest of all of us as working class and also the larger population of citizens.
“But as things are now, the strike continues until needed resolutions are arrived at in further negotiations with the Federal Government.”
Saraki said the meeting with the leadership of the NLC was part of the process to find a lasting solution to the impasse and trying to see how the upper chamber could bring an end to the strike.
He said, “I am happy to report that the NLC has shown its commitment to continue to dialogue with government and our role is to see that we facilitate and ensure that the dialogue can address the issues.
“I am encouraged by what they have said and confident that we would be able to do this. We will play our own role in facilitating and ensuring that we can bring the two parties together so that we can find a lasting solution that will reduce the hardships that Nigerians are going through.”
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives on Thursday called for the payment of a “living wage” to Nigerian workers to cushion the effects of the N145 new pump price of petrol on the people.
This was an indirect support for a rise in the national minimum wage from N18,000, but the House did not say how much a new minimum wage could be.
Labour has since demanded an increase of the minimum wage to N56,000.
Lawmakers also appealed to the leadership of the NLC to suspend the strike.
The Speaker of the House, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, spoke with reporters soon after a meeting between the House and the leadership of the NLC ended about 6.45pm on Thursday at the National Assembly.

PoliticsSecond 'chibok Girl' Rescued, Says Nigerian Army by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 10:02am On May 20, 2016
A second girl who was among more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in a raid on their school in the northeastern Nigerian town of Chibok more than two years ago has been rescued, a spokesman for the Nigerian army said on Thursday.
Army spokesman Sani Usman said in an emailed statement that the girl was among 97 women and children held hostage by Boko Haram who were freed on Thursday morning after clashes between soldiers and jihadist militants in northeastern Borno state.
Amina Ali Darsha Nkeki, the first girl to be rescued, was found by soldiers working with a vigilante group on Tuesday near Damboa, south of Maiduguri in the remote northeast where Boko Haram has waged a seven-year insurgency to set up an Islamic state.
Officials confirmed Amina was one of 219 girls abducted from the government school in Chibok in April 2014. Late on Thursday, the army said an operation in Damboa at around 11 a.m. (1000 GMT) led to the rescue of nearly 100 hostages that included the second Chibok schoolgirl.
"We are glad to state that among those rescued is a girl believed to be one of the Chibok Government Secondary School girls that were abducted," said Usman, adding that she was receiving medical treatment.
He said her name is Serah Luka and she was from the northeastern town of Madagali, in the state of Adamawa, which borders Borno.
The army spokesman said it was possible that three other girls that Serah referred to as having fled and been rescued when the troops arrived may also be among the Chibok girls, adding that this was being investigated.
A photograph of Serah released by the military shows her wearing a blue jilbab, a loose Muslim garment revealing her face but concealing her torso and arms.
"She averred that she reported at the school barely two months and one week before her unfortunate abduction along with other girls over two years ago," said Usman.
Earlier on Thursday the governor of Borno state, where Chibok is located, said the army was drawing up plans and moving into a Boko Haram forest stronghold in a bid to rescue the remaining girls.
"We believe that in the coming weeks we shall recover the rest of the girls," Governor Kashim Shettima told reporters. "The military is already moving into the forest."
Previous military attempts to storm Sambisa forest have met with mixed success, with soldiers making significant in-roads but failing to finish off the Islamist militants after running into bands of well-armed guerrillas, mines and booby traps.
The #Bringbackourgirls activist group said Amina had told her rescuers the rest of the girls were under heavy Boko Haram guard in Sambisa.
The governor's comments came shortly after Amina, the first girl to be rescued, met Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
"Amina's rescue gives us new hope and offers a unique opportunity to vital information," Buhari, a 73-year-old former military ruler, said during a meeting with the teenager, her mother and officials after a presidential jet flew her to Abuja.
Amina was discovered with her four-month-old baby, and the army said it had detained a suspected Boko Haram militant called Mohammed Hayatu, who said he was her husband.
On Thursday, the military released pictures of a clean-shaven man in a white shirt and cream trousers sitting beside Amina on a hospital bed holding the infant in his lap.

CrimeI Slept With 400 Men In Five Months – 22-year -old Trafficking Victim by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 2:48pm On May 19, 2016
A human trafficking victim, Love John, says she slept with more than 400 men in less than five months in the Sango Ota area of Ogun State.
Love, 22, and her 23-year-old sister, Happiness, were lured into prostitution sometime in January by their eldest sister, Mary.
Mary also tricked a cousin, Joy Lawrence, 25, promising the three ladies that she could give them jobs that would help them make a decent living.
However, by the time they discovered that they had been trafficked, the victims said they had become trapped.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Lawrence and another victim fled the hotel on Monday when they could no longer bear the pain they were subjected to.
Lawrence was reported to have been brought to the Lagos zonal headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service, which then stormed the hotel and rescued other victims.
The agency also arrested Mary and the owner of the hotel, one Mrs. Akpojaro Rose, an indigene of Warri, Delta State.
It was learnt that the ladies collected between N500 and N700 per sex, paid N200 per day for hotel rates, and made about N340,000 in savings within the period.
Narrating her ordeal, Love told our correspondent she did not have any formal education because their father died when they were toddlers.
She explained that her sister lured her into prostitution, saying she slept with an average of four men a day.
She said, “I was learning tailoring in the village. My sister told me she could help me get a job in Lagos; she didn’t tell me that it was prostitution I was coming to do. After we got to Lagos, she said we should do this (prostitution) job so we can make money to be able to finish my craft as a tailor. I sleep with about four men in a day and each of them pay me at least N500.”
Her elder sister, Happiness, also said she was not aware she had been trafficked until she arrived in Lagos and was introduced to prostitution.
“I didn’t go to school and I have not learnt any trade. I came to Lagos a few months ago. My sister didn’t tell me this was what I was coming to do in Lagos. She said it was a good job,” she said.
Lawrence, who fled the hotel on Monday, said she was told she would be trading when she left their hometown in Ogoja, Cross River State.
“I ran away because I didn’t like the work. I don’t want to do it again. I never knew this was the job,” the victim said.
But Mary said she did not want to bring her relatives into the trade, adding that she gave in to pressure when they kept asking her to take them to Lagos.
She said, “I came to Lagos with a friend in 2014 and my friend introduced me to this job. We were first using a hotel called Happiness Hotel before we moved to Morning Star Hotel in Sango Ota.
“When I travelled to the village, my sisters started disturbing me that they wanted to follow me to Lagos to go and work.
“When they continued to disturb me, I decided to take them with me; but I didn’t tell them I was into prostitution. I told my mother I was working in a beer parlour.
“Each of us makes N2,500 to N3,000 daily. We sleep with an average of three to four men and they pay between N500 and N700.”
The 32-year-old said from January till May 16 when they were arrested, she had saved N340,000 for the three girls.
She, however, alleged that the hotel was raided by some policemen from the Sango Ota division, whom they settled with N150,000.
The owner of the hotel, Rose, told PUNCH Metro that she gave out rooms to the girls at the rate of N200 per day.
“I warned Mary that the girls (Click on the link below to read more)

FamilyHow’s Your Marriage? by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:37pm On Apr 20, 2016
The family unit fundamentally begins with the parents’ marriage. This relationship must be preserved and nurtured at all costs. Attention to the health of the marriage relationship must equal and even at times exceed attention for the child. A child’s general health (emotional, physical, spiritual) can be directly tied to the health of the parents’ relationship. When the marriage suffers, the family unit and the child suffers. One of the most common reasons for a child’s misbehavior is an unstable marriage. If parents are modelling disrespectful behavior towards one another, it should not be surprising when their child behaves disrespectfully toward family members and others. When parents model and display love for each other, the children feel more secure in the family.
If unresolved issues exist within your marriage, don’t ignore them. Aggressively pursue resolution through communication, reading of marriage resources, talking with other couples, and even marriage counseling. You will see your child’s behavior make a sudden turn for the better as your marriage strengthens.

RomanceWoman Marries Her Sperm Donor, Opens Up About Her Crazy Love Story by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:29pm On Apr 19, 2016
AN AUSTRALIAN woman who married her sperm donor has revealed all about the incredible love story which followed years of tragedy on This Morning.
Aminah Hart found herself single and desperate for a child at the age of 42 after losing two sons to a rare genetic disorder.
With adoption not a viable option for Aminah in Victoria, Australia where she lived, her mother suggested using a sperm donor and her life changed forever.
She told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: "My amazing mum, she knew I would possibly live with regret if I didn't give it one last try to become a mum to a healthy child.
"I had considered adoption but in Australia it's not that easy to adopt and my age and my social status I guess were working against me, and so mum did suggest I try a donor IVF programme and she said she would do everything that she could to support me.
"And she did, she convinced me, and eventually I decided to give it one last go."
Aminah's hesitation was understandable, after losing sons Marlon and Louis before either had reached their second birthday due a genetic disorder called x-linked myotubular myopathy.
She gave birth to first son Marlon in 2005 while living in the UK with her first husband, but shortly after he was born he passed away.
However Aminah didn't discover the cause of his death was a genetic condition which is passed from mother to son until tragedy struck again three years later with her second child Louis.
She explained: "I didn't actually find out what was wrong with my first son, he did die before he had a diagnosis so going into the second pregnancy I didn't have any idea it would happen again until my second son Louis was born.
"Then it was obvious there was something genetically coming from me as there was a different dad. He lived 14 months but when he died it was devastating, and I think I was quite broken at that time."
Aminah was faced with the prospect that the genetic disorder has a 1 in 4 chance of occurring in every pregnancy so she thought long and hard about her options and agreed to give a sperm donor a try, but Victoria's strict laws meant Aminah was only given three men to choose from, and she settled upon Scott Andersen's profile.
The three sheets of paper on each male included their basic details, vital statistics, interests, hobbies, what he was good at at school, medical history and family genetic history.
When Phillip, 53, asked what drew Aminah to Scott's profile, she said: "Scott said he was happy and easy going and I thought they were great traits to have in life, happiness was something that had alluded me and it also said he already had four beautiful healthy children."
Out of the other two men, one had had no kids and the other had had a child with a genetic anomaly, which understandably, Aminah wanted to avoid at all costs.
Scott had agreed to being contactable before the child turned 18, but he admitted to the presenters that he hadn't expected to meet his fifth child so soon.
He said: "In my mind I thought it would be when I was quite elderly, some offspring might come along, I didn't expect it to happen quite like this."
The couple's daughter Leila was born in August 2012 Leila, and it was thanks to Aminah's mother Helen yet again that she got in contact with Scott in the first place.
She said: "It was mum in the first instance, once she found out his name was Scott and in his profile he had said he was a simmental cattle breeder, he gave away quite an important clue.
"So mum went to the Cattle Breeders Association website and found one person in Victoria with the initial S and decided that must be him."
Helen then found a Facebook page of a football club close to where Scott lived and a photograph and decided it must be the man who donated his sperm.
Helen suggested her daughter go and watch a football match but Aminah decided to go through the proper channels and contacted the Voluntary Register which facilitates contact.
She sent an email and asked if he would be receptive to being contacted and he said yes.
Holly and Phil could hardly contain their excitement as the story moved on to the unexpected romance, but Aminah insisted it wasn't love at first sight, with the parents emailing each other for six months before meeting up after a year.
Aminah said: "We had no idea that would happen. I think it literally was the last thing we expected but it took a while, there was lots of steps in between, we got to know each other quite slowly and I think that Scott fell for Leila firstly."
The couple tied the knot (Click on the link below to read more)

The rate at which students and candidates of competitive examinations fail English Language examinations in Nigeria and other West African countries is alarming.

There are many people who believe they have what it takes to pass English Language examination at whatever level, yet they end up failing woefully. CrimePolice Detain Inspector Accused Of Working With Robber by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 12:13pm On Apr 15, 2016
Punch has reported that the embattled policeman attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, Inspector Festus Omotosho, aka Ijaya, has been detained by the command for allegedly working with a suspected robber, Akeem Popoola.
It was learnt on Thursday that Ijaya, who 21-year-old Popoola said he was working for, was also being investigated by the Ogun State Police Command.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, had summoned Ijaya for interrogation on Monday, following an exclusive report by PUNCH Metro.
Our correspondent had reported on April 11 that Popoola, who was arrested for robbery and burglary by the police in Ogun State, told PUNCH Metro that he helped Ijaya to sell phones to unsuspecting members of the public.
He added that minutes after the sale, the inspector and two others – Abbey and Aluko – would handcuff him and take him to the buyers.
He explained that Ijaya would accuse the buyers of acquiring stolen property and demand a bribe of between N120,000 and N150,000, adding that he got a N5,000 share for each successful deal.
The Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed Ijaya’s detention, saying he would be prosecuted for criminal charges if found culpable of the allegation.
She added that the command had commenced investigation into the allegation against him.
She said, “The CP Lagos State Command has ordered his (Ijaya’s) detention. The command and the Ogun State Police Command are investigating the criminal charges. If he is culpable, he will be prosecuted.
“The leadership of the police is committed to cleaning up the force and will continue to decisively deal with bad eggs. We will inform you when the outcome of the investigation is ready.”

PoliticsChibok Girls: Senate Summons Service Chiefs, Reps Demand Rescue Date by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 10:44am On Apr 15, 2016
The Senate on Thursday summoned the National Security Adviser and all the service chiefs to brief it at a closed session on their efforts so far to recover the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
Also, the House of Representatives on Thursday asked the Federal Government to set a target for security agencies to rescue the 219 Chibok schoolgirls held in captivity by Boko Haram insurgents.
The Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, gave the position of the House after an exhaustive debate on a motion to mark the second anniversary of the abduction of the girls.
The red chamber did not, however, give any date on when the service chiefs would appear before it but observed a one-minute silence in honour of parents of the abducted girls that had died.
The senators took the decision following the deliberation on a motion moved by the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, tagged, “The Abduction of Chibok School Girls- Two years after.”
Melaye lamented the plight of the girls and their parents, saying the Federal Government could not be said to have succeeded until the girls were rescued.
He said, “We cannot succeed as a government until those girls are released. Getting back the over 200 Chibok schoolgirls into the society is important and a must for our security agencies.
“The abduction of over 200 girls by Boko Haram has wrongly affected us as a people as could be seen in the international condemnation of the government’s slow reaction to this unprecedented outrage committed against Nigerian womanhood.
“Never before has such criminal viciousness been perpetrated on Nigerian womanhood.”
Other senators who supported the motion called on the Federal Government to go beyond the yearly ritual of celebrating the anniversary of the abduction.
They called on the government to explore every available avenue to ensure that the girls were rescued.
The Senate also commended the BringBackOurGirls group for what they described as its doggedness and consistency in the campaign for the release of the girls.
The upper chamber which said it empathised with parents of the girls, also charged security agencies to ensure the girls’ freedom, just as it urged the Borno State Government to rebuild the Chibok Secondary School in the interest of students in the community.
Adopting the prayers of the motion, the Senate mandated security agencies to do everything possible to ensure the release of the girls.
The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, however, introduced humour into the entire scenario by accusing the sponsor of the motion, Melaye, of using the campaign for the release of the Chibok girls to win election to the Senate.
Akpabio said, “I wonder why those who led protests against the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan to rescue the girls have suddenly kept mum.
“I remember in 2014, Dino Melaye used to wear a T-shirt and he led the protest to ensure that the abducted schoolgirls were released. He was always at the National Fountain to lead a protest against the government.
“He eventually cashed in on it and won elections. Other people in the APC did the same thing.”
On its part, the House of Representatives resolved to send a “high-powered delegation” to Chibok to commiserate with the parents and relatives of the girls as a way of passing the message that the legislature shared in their pains.
The motion on “The Need to Intensify the Search and Rescue of the Chibok School Girls”, was moved by the All Progressives Congress member representing Damboa/Chibok Federal Constituency of Borno State, Mrs. Asabe Bashir.
Dogara stated that searching for the girls had reached a point where government must set a target on when to rescue the girls to underscore the urgency of the situation.
“A time has come for us as an institution to insist that the executive should set targets for the rescue of the girls.
“We have to set targets so that we don’t lose the sense of urgency that is required to free the girls,” Dogara added.
He particularly commended members of the BBOG campaigners for keeping the fate of the girls on the front burner.
“We must also commend the security forces of our country, who have been toiling day and night, searching for these girls,” he said.
While moving her motion in an emotion-laden voice, Bahir said a dark cloud had enveloped the world of the parents of the girls, two years on, without a word of assurance on how they would re-connect with their loved ones.
“The plea is that the Federal Government should intensify the search for these girls.
“For two years, their whereabouts are unknown,” she reminded the House.
The Chairman, House Committee on Foreign Relations, Nnena Ukeje, condemned the cowardly acts of the Boko Haram insurgents, whom she said employed unconventional methods of fighting to attack soft targets.
“Boko Haram should release the girls; they are innocent. They should come out like men and fight our armed forces in open battles. Kidnapping, raping girls and women are not the rights of men,” the Peoples Democratic Party’s legislator from Abia State added.
The Deputy House Minority Whip and member of the PDP from Gombe State, Binta Maigeri, said her heart was heavy for the girls and their parents because she could not bear the horror of not knowing the whereabouts of her children for one night, let alone for “730 nights.”
Another APC lawmaker from Bauchi State, Mr. Mohammed Sani-Abdu, noted that the Chibok girls’ abduction exposed Nigeria’s lack of seriousness as a country on how it treated the welfare, security and safety of its citizenry.
“The Chibok incident is a major embarrassment for us and it portrays us as an unserious people.
“The girls and their parents are innocent people, who do not deserve the torture and trauma they have been made to face,” Sani-Abdu stated.
But, beyond Nigeria failing to rise to the occasion, the lawmaker also blamed the failure to rescue the girls on the claim that Western countries were unwilling to assist Nigeria.
Sani-Abdu observed that the US, in particular, and Israel, (Click on the link below2 to read more)

HealthMeet The Tallest Teenager In India by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 3:41pm On Apr 14, 2016
AT just 14-years-old he already stands a whopping 6ft 7in. But India's tallest teen now fears his great height will one day leave him struggling to find a wife.
Incredibly Yashwant Raut, from Solapur, is the only person in his family with such extraordinary height. In fact his parents are actually well below average height - with his dad measuring 5ft 5in and his mum just 4ft 5in.
But despite coming from a notably small family, doctors are predicting Yashwant will reach a staggering 8ft by the time he stops growing.
"I feel my height is a huge strength in my life," Yashwant said.
"There have been times when I feel really special, like a celebrity, when people stop me to click pictures and ask for my autograph. I always wanted to be tall but I never imagined I would grow this tall."
But Yashwant, who is still at school and dreams of becoming a basketball player, admits his height is causing difficulties.
"I don’t fit on my bed so I can’t sleep properly at night. We need a customized bed but we haven’t got round to it yet. I always hit my head when I’m walking around the house and in school, and I can’t fit in our car or sit properly at my school desk. Everything is a problem for me." he said.
But the biggest issue worrying Yashwant is whether he’ll one day find a wife who'll match his height.
"I want a girl who will be tall enough. She has to suit my height. If I don’t find a girl who can match my height or get close even, I probably will not marry at all," he said.
Yashwant’s father Brahmadev, 40, feels proud as a parent that his son stands out in the crowd.
The 5ft 5ins teacher said: "People stop and look as he steps out of our home, sometimes they say good comments and sometimes bad. But we teach him to take every word as inspiration and motivation and just move on with his life."
His sister Triveni, 18, stands at just 5ft tall and only comes to her little brother’s waist.
Meanwhile his mum Suman, 36, also a teacher stands at just 4ft 5ins and wants her son to be recognized across the globe for his height.
"He is blessed with this remarkable height and I am hopeful he’ll be able to do something fruitful with this blessing,’ she said. ‘People ask me what I did during my pregnancy but I can’t answer them, I have no idea. He was like any other baby but just a bit bigger. His hands and legs used to always stick out of the cot or pram, always too big to fit into anything."
People still tease Yashwant, who wears (Click on the link below to read more)

PoliticsWe Can’t Say When Chibok Girls’ll Return – Federal Gov’t by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 10:43am On Apr 14, 2016
As the nation marks two years of the abduction of 276 students from their hostel at Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State today, the Federal Government has said it can’t say when the schoolgirls would return.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday said that despite efforts to rescue the 219 schoolgirls kidnapped by the Boko Haram sect in Chibok, government cannot give a definite date for their rescue.
The vice president, however, reassured that from the security reports available to the federal government, it was still possible to rescue the girls. There are fears that the missing girls may never be found alive.
The girls were reportedly abducted on April 14, 2014 by some armed men suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists operating in the north-eastern flanks of the country. The abductors were said to have stormed their school at night, commandeered them out of their dormitory, bundled them into large capacity buses and ferried them away to an unknown destination.
The incident, which took place during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, attracted global attention, particularly when that administration was accused of failing to take prompt action to rescue the girls.
The seeming lethargy on the part of the Federal Government to rescue the girls gave birth to the Bring Back Our Girls (#BBOG) movement, a group of volunteers agitating for the return of the girls.
It also become an issue during the 2015 election eering with the then opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC) promising to rescue the girls as soon as it assumed the mantle of leadership in the country.
Barely one year into the life of the Muhammadu Buhari administration, this promise has not been kept and this has also drawn a lot of criticisms from the BBOG and other civil rights groups.
Speaking at a one-day roundtable in honour of the Chibok girls and other victims of internal conflicts, the vice president cautioned that people should not assume that government was not doing enough to bring back the girls to their families.
Osinbajo revealed that at every Security Council meeting that he has attended, President Muhammadu Buhari had always sought to know the fastest way to rescue the abductees. He said because the issue was very complicated, government would not say exactly when it would be achieved. ”
At every security council meeting that I have attended, the president has always been concerned about Chibok girls. He thinks of how this can be done quickly. “But it’s a very delicate issue and we cannot say we can deal with it next week.
Every rescue attempt must take the safety of the girls into consideration,” he said. Osinbajo assured that “from the security reported we get, we will be able to bring back the girls, but we must exercise some caution and patience, and not sound as if it can be done, but it’s not being done.”
He pointed out that everything that could be done to rescue the girls was being done with the assistance of international partners, saying that apart from the rescue of the girls, the situation of other vulnerable Nigerians remained the focus of the present administration. According to him, in dealing with the poorest of the poor in the country, there seemed to be a problem around the core subject of what a budget should be.
The vice president said that people must pay attention to how government programmes were designed as “the soft under belly of our system is that we expose the most vulnerable to the harshest conditions. That’s why the government has come up with intervention programmes, including conditional cash transfer.”
He said compiling the list of the poorest (Click on the link below to read more)

CrimeWhy We Can’t Execute Boko Haram Convicts —AGF by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 3:21pm On Apr 07, 2016
The Attorney General of the Federation, Mallam Abubakar Malami, said yesterday that convicted members of the Boko Haram sect in the country could not be executed because the laws under which they were tried did not prescribe death sentence.

He disclosed this at the launch of amnesty’s report on Global Death Sentences and Executions 2015, in Abuja, yesterday.

The attorney-general, who was represented by Sylvester Imahanobe, also promised to work with Amnesty International to stop executition of convicted criminals in the country, if the international human rights body proposed a bill to that effect.

He said: “Terrorists in Nigeria are tried under the Terrorism Prevention Act which does not carry death penalty. That is why even those Boko Haram members, who have been convicted cannot be executed because the maximum sentence prescribed by the law is life sentence.”

The AGF said he would be pleased to support any bill that came from Amnesty International on the abolition of death sentence in the country, pointing out that “studies have shown that death penalty has not stopped people from committing crimes.”
Malami revealed that the country was working towards ensuring that the prison system was corrective and not punitive, as it is currently.
Earlier in his remarks, the Country Director of Amnesty International, Mohammed Ibrahim, said there was a “dramatic global rise in the number of executions recorded in 2015 which saw more people put to death than at any point in the last quarter-century.”
He said the surge was largely fuelled by Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which brought the number of people executed worldwide to 1,634 people, a rise of more than 50 per cent on the year before and the highest number Amnesty International had recorded since 1989.

FamilySingle Girl, 31, Who Longed To Wed, Hanged Herself As She Struggled To Cope With by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 3:42pm On Mar 29, 2016
A SINGLE woman, who longed to be a bride, hanged herself when she struggled to cope with her girlfriends getting married.
Business development manager Danielle Saul, 31, had been ambitious, bright and fun-loving when at work and socialising but secretly was desperate to settle down and get hitched.
She eventually began to sink into a depression as her friends started to wed while she lived alone with her cat.
Although she was invited to hen parties and was asked to be a bridesmaid, Danielle sent messages to her best friend saying, “I feel like dying”, as well as a photograph of herself crying.
Tragedy struck in June last year after she went out partying with friends in Manchester city centre when she bumped into a former long-term boyfriend.
She invited the unnamed man and his friends back to the flat she owned in Fallowfield, Manchester, for further drinks but became upset when he left the following day without them reconciling.
She was found dead three days later when a concerned friend visited the apartment after not hearing from her.
Tests later revealed she was twice the drink-drive limit and it is feared she “impulsively” took the decision as a “cry for help”.
A Manchester inquest heard Danielle had graduated from Edge Hill University in Liverpool with a degree in education and art and began working in recruitment.
She moved from Preston to Manchester and led an active social life.
Her mother Karen, from Preston, Lancs told the Manchester hearing: "She had had a couple of long-term relationships, one of which was around five years ago, and then that broke up but she still had feelings for him and found it difficult.
"I think she had an overload that weekend with the upset from her previous relationship.
"She had a difficult time at work a few months prior to that.
"At the time quite a number of her friends were getting married and she was going to hen parties and she was going to be bridesmaid and I think she got overloaded with these things and emotionally things became exaggerated."
Danielle's best friend Lucy Nixon, who had known her for 15 years, said she met up with Danielle before their planned night out on the Saturday before her death.
She said: "She was very down.
"She always used very intensive words and we were expressive with one another. Saying, “I feel like dying” would not be unusual. She sent me a photo of herself crying on Saturday.”
A post-mortem exam revealed Danielle had 162mg of alcohol in 100mg of blood. The legal limit is 80mg. No note was found with her body.
Recording a conclusion of misadventure, coroner Jean Harkin said there was not enough evidence to to prove Danielle intended to take her own life.

RomanceSexual Harassment: Panel Arrives Queen’s College Tomorrow by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:52pm On Mar 29, 2016
Members of the Panel of Inquiry into the allegation of sexual harassment against a teacher, Mr. Olaseni Osifala, at the Queen’s College, Yaba, Lagos, are billed to arrive at the college tomorrow.
This is even as the panel has sent out invitation letters to the concerned stakeholders such as the school management, the leadership of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), the accused teacher, the blogger who reported the accusation, the leadership of the college’s unit of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria and the old students’ association, among others.
Meanwhile, the invitation meant for the accuser, Mrs. Chinneye Okoye, has been dropped at the office of the PTA at the college. The PTA Chairman, Mrs. Beatrice Akhetuame, confirmed this.
She said the panel forwarded the invitation to the PTA, believing that Okoye was a member of the association. Akhetuame appealed to the individual concerned to come open and pick the letter.
According to her, the interest of her daughter who is the supposed victim is not only important to the school but the safety of other students.
The chairman said all parents of pupils in the school had been made to go through emotional pain by the development and urged all stakeholders to be open and truthful in their presentations at the panel.

CrimeMan Rapes, Murders One-year-old As Baby’s Uncle Sleeps by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:22pm On Mar 29, 2016
An Indiana man drank whiskey with the uncle of a one-year-old girl and then waited until the family fell asleep before abducting, raping and killing the toddler, prosecutors said Monday in court documents.
Kyle Parker faces murder, rape, kidnapping and other charges in the death of Shaylyn Ammerman, whose body was found Thursday night following two days of intensive searching. A state police detective says in Owen County court documents that Parker, 22, of Spencer, directed investigators to the remote, wooded location.
A judge ordered that Parker remain jailed without bond and entered a not guilty plea for him during a Monday afternoon hearing. Parker appeared via video link from the county jail for the hearing.
The judge appointed attorney Jacob Fish as Parker’s public defender. Fish didn’t immediately return a telephone message left at his law office seeking comment.
Owen County Prosecutor Don VanDerMoere called the allegations against Parker “monstrous” and “atrocious” and as disturbing as he’s seen since becoming prosecutor in 2009.
“This is the first time in my tenure that I’ve seen grown law enforcement officers just wince in pain,” he said after Parker’s court hearing. “It’s just horrible.”
State police spokesman Sgt. Curt Durnil said the investigation wasn’t finished despite the charges against Parker. He said detectives could take several days or weeks to complete their work, but that more arrests weren’t expected Monday.
Shaylyn’s father and grandmother, Justin Ammerman and Tamera Morgan, were the last people known to have seen her late Tuesday. She had been staying at her father’s home under a joint custody arrangement with the girl’s mother; her grandmother and uncle also lived there, reports The Associated Press.
Parker was drinking whiskey Tuesday night with Shaylyn’s uncle at the father’s home and abducted (Click below to read more)

Music/RadioMy Most Annoying Routine Is Taking My Bath – Simi by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 3:19pm On Mar 28, 2016
Fast rising singer and songwriter, Simisola Bolatito Ogunleye, popularly known as Simi, wrote her very first tune at the age of 10. She started singing and dancing in her early teens as a member of the teenage church choir. The songstress whose songs include ‘Jamb Question’ and ‘Open and Close’, recently dropped yet another hit single titled ‘ Love don’t care’ In this interview, the award winning graduate of Mass communication signed to X3M music talks about her musical journey, plans for the year and life generally. Excerpts:

How have you fared since you delved into the Nigerian music scene?
It has been fabulous so far. Although the journey has not been easy but with persistence for the career I have a passion for, it has improved. This year 2016, February precisely, I released a single, ‘Love don’t care’ which has made the top ten in the Nigerian music chart for a couple of weeks now and is currently enjoying massive airplay on radio. I have also shot the video for the single ‘Soldier’ with Falz which is expected to be out soon. So, I can say my career is very promising.

Do you write your songs, and how are you able to put the lyrics together?

Of course, I write my lyrics myself and for other people. I am not just a singer, but also a songwriter and I mix and master most of my songs myself. My songs have to do with how I feel. How deep I go is dependent on what I am trying to say. If I sing a song on heartbreak, and if it is personal, I might probably go too deep. But my songs are inspired by people’s experiences in life and what I see around me. Most of my songs may not necessarily be attached to my personal experience. I just write songs to inspire others. I am not pretentious, but a simple and realistic person.

So what keeps you going?
I have an amazing management team. They make sure at all times, I’m on the right path.

Does your management team in anyway influence the choice of song you write?

Not at all, I don’t know how it is done in other labels but here, I am at liberty to write my songs at any time and inscribe my own title to it.

Will you say you are currently enjoying your celebrity status?
Well this is the real me. I can still stop by and buy roasted plantain by the road side. I don’t feel uncomfortable, I am not blown away by fame because that is not what excites me in the game. What excites me is the music. I am happy about my celebrity status only because more people know my music and want to relate with it.

Describe your genre of music.

My kind of music is Afro Pop/RNB but mostly Afro-soul.

When should your fans be expecting your album?

Definitely this year, as all hands are currently on deck towards the successful outcome of the album. I won’t be disclosing the number of tracks and title for now, as we are still working on that but my fans should be rest assured that the album will drop this year, all things being equal.

What keeps you going?

My passion – because the only reason why I am doing music is because my attention span can be very short, but one thing that keeps me more focused is music. Music is that one thing I really want to learn about and the passion I have for the art of music pushes me on and keeps me going.

As a graduate of Mass Communication, do you see yourself going into the media and writing?
I actually have a blog, although I have not been very loyal to it. I love writing, if I wasn’t into music full-time, I would probably be either a writer or an O.A.P. Writing is a part of me.

What was growing up like?

I was a kind of a tomboy while growing up (laughs) because I had three elder brothers and from my mum. I was the only girl and last born. So I used to like sneakers, baggy jeans etc. My dad spoilt my brothers and I, but it was fun. When I was nine years, my parents separated and so that was really a tough time for us, because we had to grow up faster. We came through it and we are okay.

Your songs revolve around love, why?
It is because love sells. When you talk about love, it encompasses so many things. Not women or sex alone, but (Click on the link below to read more)
