Ikot Udobia village in the Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State is to immortalise a 90-year old virgin, Miss Agnes Udofia. Our correspondent learnt that virgin Udofia lives her life caring for the children of other people. It was observed that over 50 men, women and children gathered around her on Monday to give thanks to God for preserving the life of a woman they all thought was their biological mother. A businessman, Mr. Fabian Udoh, who was trained by Udofia, stated that he was happy to be in the village to honour Udofia. He said since he was a kid, he never saw Udofia with any man to cultivate a relationship. He noted that Udofia raised the children of other people. “She has touched the lives of over 50 children. I have always known her not to have any relationship with any man. “We are proposing a foundation to immortalise her. We all came home today to celebrate her now that she is alive. It will make no meaning celebrating her after death. She gave most of us life and we must celebrate her when she is alive,” he said. Apart from a thanksgiving service and lavish reception organised by people who grew up in Udofia’s care, St. Pius Catholic Church, Ikot Udobia, also organised another thanksgiving programme for her. Our correspondent asked Udofia about her husband, but she replied that she never knew any man in her entire life. She said she had never been married, and had no boyfriend when she was young. She said, “I was born partially blind and so, no man saw anything good in me. So, I grew up without a man. I have never (Click on the link below to read more) <[url://www.primeviewsng.com]> ,

The vice chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu, has charged students of the university to be good ambassadors of the premier Open and Distance Learning (ODL) institution in West Africa. Adamu gave this charge in his address at the 16th Matriculation Ceremony of the university, which held simultaneously at the 77 study centres of the institution across Nigeria, this Saturday. Addressing the freshmen at the ceremony, Professor Adamu said, “As students of NOUN, you have become partakers in this vision, as the vision begins with you. You have become the torchbearers of the National Open University of Nigeria, the standard by which NOUN will be judged by others. In other words, you have become Ambassadors of NOUN. You will be doing yourself and the university a lot of good if you remember this always and act in such a way that will edify your university.” Adamu, who opined that his university, as a strong player in tertiary education delivery globally, has provided a formidable platform through which its students can translate their dreams into reality, urged the matriculating students to take advantage of the facilities put in place by management of the institution to drive home their intellectual dreams and aspirations. It would be recalled that matriculation (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

Undercover inspectors have determined that a building registered as a church was being operated as a sex club. WTVF-TV reports that the city of Nashville has filed a complaint against the owners for “maintaining a public nuisance by permitting acts of lewd conduct” and violating a state law banning sex clubs from operating within 1,000 feet of a school. The longtime downtown swingers club underwent a conversion in 2015 when it relocated to a run-down office park in the community of Madison, calling itself a church because the new location is near the back of the private Goodpasture Christian School. A pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God and legal practitioner, Dele Taiwo and his wife, Doyin, whose wedding photos recently went viral on the Internet, share their love story with MOTUNRAYO JOEL How did you meet your wife? Dele: I have known my beautiful wife for almost a decade. We met in Ondo State. We were attending the same Redeemed Christian Church of God parish. When I saw her for the first time, I had no thoughts of her becoming my wife. My relationship with her at the outset of our friendship can be described as one that exists between a father and daughter. I would describe our union as divinely orchestrated by God, because she was not the person I intended to marry. While we were enjoying our father-daughter bond, I was in a serious relationship with another lady and she knew about it. Even after my relationship with the lady ended, starting a relationship with my wife never crossed my mind. That thought never crossed her mind too. Doyin: I never thought I would get married to him. Even when God told me that he is my husband, I objected to His will. How did the relationship progress? Dele: Aside from it being God’s will, her love for God got me attracted to her. She is extremely passionate about godly things – that got me drawn to her, not her beauty. I finally decided that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her on January 2016. At that point, I no longer saw her as a daughter but my prospective partner. Though one of the things that got me discouraged about starting a proper relationship with her was the father-daughter bond we previously shared. I also thought about what people would say. But I had no choice other than to submit to God’s will. Honestly, when God told me that she is my wife, I struggled with His will. Immediately I succumbed to His will, I began to fall in love with her. Doyin: I had to face reality; I couldn’t continue to run away from God’s will. I decided to embrace His will and enjoy my life. How did you then approach her? Dele: I told her what God told me concerning the future of our relationship and her being my wife. I also sought the views of my spiritual fathers before I approached her. Surprisingly, my request didn’t catch her unawares. All she asked for was some time to think over it. But God had already spoken to her too about it. Doyin: After God told me that he is my husband, I kicked against it because of his height. I didn’t want to marry him. But I had no other choice but to allow God have His way in my life. How long did it take for her to ‘think over’ your proposal? Dele: It lasted for about three weeks. She then told me about how God had already spoken to her. What qualities in your husband attracted you to him? Doyin: I love the fact that he is godly. He has a caring heart. He is a loving husband. Though, the personal qualities he exhibits weren’t what attracted me to him. I believe our union is God’s will. At what point in your relationship did you become less bothered about his height? Doyin: The moment I accepted God’s will, but it wasn’t easy. At this point, I’m no longer bothered about his height. How did her family react when she introduced you to them? Dele: They objected to her decision. But if I were in their shoes, I would have acted that way. I celebrate my wife for standing her ground. Her family wasn’t in support of her decision to marry me. I understand how they felt. They were trying to avoid being stigmatised. Today, I can happily say that my in-laws love me. They have embraced me with open arms. Doyin: My parents kept saying no. Their objection lasted for months. But when they saw that I was determined to get married to him and that our union is God’s will, they surrendered to His will. How did your friends react when you told them you were planning to get married to a man of his height? Doyin: It was my choice not theirs. But those who I told accepted my decision and celebrated my courage. Maybe some of them would have thought otherwise behind my back. Were there times you doubted her love for you? Dele: I never once doubted her love for me. When we began a proper relationship was when she was posted to Kogi for her National Youth Service Corps programme but we kept communicating with each other. The distance between us was not a problem because we already knew ourselves too well. Moreover, I know her as someone who is trustworthy. I had no reason to think she may have stopped loving me. Doyin: My husband’s commitment to our relationship especially while I was observing the NYSC programme got me more attracted to him. He used to send a text message to me every morning and evening throughout the one-year service. He was consistent; he never missed a day. He always called me on the phone; his calls were frequent. How long did your courtship last? Dele: Our relationship started in January 2016 and we eventually got married on April 29, 2017. There are reports of some men of your height who married women of their height. Did that thought ever cross your mind? Dele: I believe God said my case will be different; he led me to a woman who is taller than me. Were there disagreements throughout your courtship? Dele: Even if we did, I cannot remember. I think we hardly had disagreements because we were always talking on the phone. Who apologises first if you have disagreements? Dele: I have no problem apologising. Doyin: I always say sorry whenever I’m wrong. How did you propose to her? Dele: I told her that God has led me to her and that I want to spend the rest of my life with her. Is he everything you have always wanted in a man? Doyin: Aside his physical characteristics, he is everything I’ve always wanted in a man. Do you feel shy when people stare at you both anytime you are out on account of your height? Dele: Not at all, that is something I overcame a long time ago. I’m not bothered by people’s stares. I always say to myself, people cannot stand and stare at me forever. It is either I move away or they move away. Doyin: I love my husband; I don’t care if people stare at us. I decided not to be bothered about his height a long time ago. What memorable gift have you bought for her? Dele: I am not sociable, but things I give her are spiritual gifts. Doyin: He likes to buy me books. He knows I love reading books. The photos of your wedding were all over the Internet. How do you feel about that? Dele: I’m not surprised because whatever God does is always celebrated. When God says it is time for something, He makes the celebration beautiful and glorious. When you were younger, did you think you would never get married because of your height? Dele: I’ve known God (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

On May 6, businessman and resident of Gwarimpa Housing Estate, FCT, Abuja, Benedict Emmanuel, noticed that a stack of foreign currency he kept in his house had disappeared. But little did he know that his good-natured security guard, 40-year-old Alfred Andrew, a Bauchi State indigene, had suddenly become a millionaire, while keeping his home safe. At 40, Andrew, who studied Mass Communication and Information Technology, went from joblessness to enrolling in an evangelical school, through which he became a pastor. Yet, he said he needed more out of life. Andrew said he moved to Plateau State to look for a job until the poor condition of the job forced him to move to Abuja where he took up a security guard job on a N25,000 salary in 2014. But three years down the line, Andrew thought fate had finally smiled upon him when bundles of foreign currency fell on him while he was rifling through his boss’ belongings one day when the latter was out of the house. He said, “That day, I was sweeping when I saw a key on the floor. I tried it on the padlock on my boss’ apartment and it opened. I went inside the house and was searching through his belongings when something fell on me from the top of his wardrobe. “I then realised it was foreign currency. I climbed on a chair to see what was on the top of the wardrobe and noticed that there were currencies from different countries. They were so much. That was the first time I would see so much dollars. I have only seen such large amount in movies. “I was tempted to take the money. Before, I had been hearing of whistle-blowers but I was not sure who to contact. I didn’t know who to report to. I didn’t have the number of the whistle-blowers (sic). I was scared. I didn’t know who to trust in Nigeria. I might tell someone and the person may turn things around against me.” Andrew said he started to pick out of the bundles of currencies gradually whenever his boss was out of the house. Then, he took the step of counting how many wrapped bundles of currency were on the wardrobe. “I confirmed from someone the amount in the bundles. He said it was N130m after it was converted. I didn’t touch that one because it was sealed. I was only taking from those bundles,” he said. According to him, for over a month after he started stealing out of the currencies, his boss did not notice. He said he noticed that each time his boss travelled out, he came back with more foreign currencies. He said he only checked whenever his boss was away from home to see if the money had increased or decreased. But every time he went into the room, he was always tempted to take part of it. “If you just pulled a small amount, by the time you count it, there might be more than thirty dollar notes,” he said. At a point, Andrew went beyond just pulling little amounts of cash from the bundles and took a few million-naira worth. He said, “I took some amount and converted it to N24.4m and put it in my account. When Andrew’s boss, Emmanuel, first noticed that a huge part of his cash was gone, he became suspicious of his security guard only when he discovered that the latter was using an iPhone 7 cell phone even though his salary was just N25,000. When Andrew’s room was searched, expensive designer clothes were also found there. He was apprehended when Emmanuel informed the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team. At the police station, he confessed and N24 million was found in his account. He also took the police to an apartment that he rented in town where expensive phones were recovered from his girlfriend. Andrew said, “I bought (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

Punch reports that it appears the Federal Government has ruled out the possibility of providing daily bulletin/update on President Muhammdu Buhari’s health status and treatment while in London, the United Kingdom. Top Federal Government sources told Saturday PUNCH that there was no need for such updates since Buhari had handed over to his deputy, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who is now the acting President. The President had travelled to London last Sunday, almost two months after returning from the European country for medical treatment. He had first left the country for London on January 19, 2017 and returned on March 10, 2017, in what would be his longest medical trip ever so far. He had after returning to Nigeria confessed that he had never been that sick in his life, adding that he would again embark on another medical trip in the future. There had been overwhelming calls from several sections of the country for the Federal Government to make the President’s health status public. Having returned to London for another medical vacation, there had also been calls for the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, to provide daily updates on the President’s health. Mohammed, had in December 2009, in his capacity as the spokesperson for the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, stated that, “The current situation, whereby ministers and aides of the President give out uncoordinated information on his health, is doing more harm than good.” He was referring to the late President of Nigeria, Umaru Yar’ Adua. He had said, “It is clear to discerning Nigerians that those pretending to speak authoritatively on the President’s health are deceiving the public since they are neither well-informed on the issue nor competent to speak on it. “Therefore, a daily briefing by the Minister of Information, based on authentic details provided by the President’s doctors, should start forthwith. As we have said many times, the health of the President, as a public figure can no longer be of interest only to his family and friends. Nigerians have a right to know.” However, a top FG source ruled out a daily update on Buhari’s health as requested by Mohammed in his days as the opposition spokesperson. According to the source, Buhari’s health (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

The Federal Government on Thursday suspended the embattled Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola and his counterpart at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Prof. Olusola Oyewole. A letter signed by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Hussaini Adamu, noted that the vice-chancellors were suspended in connection with their ongoing trial at the behest of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. They were instructed to handover to the most senior Deputy Vice-Chancellors of their respective institutions. While attempts to reach the Head, Information and Protocol Unit of FUTA, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, to confirm the suspension were unsuccessful on Thursday, a statement by the Head, Directorate of Public Relations, FUNAAB, Mrs. Emi’ Alawode, neither affirmed nor denied the suspension. “Consultations are in progress with the university administration on the true position of things, while a formal statement will be issued in due course. Meanwhile, all normal academic and administrative activities are ongoing unabated, in the university,’’ she said. Daramola has a running battle with academic and non-academic members of staff of the university over mismanagement of funds. The unions had also urged the governing council of the university to remove Daramola from office. Daramola, who had been arraigned by the EFCC, is due for retirement this month. In an earlier interview with our correspondent, he denied the allegations levelled against him. “Essentially, what is responsible (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

According to Punch, 18-year-old Sophie Stonehewer, spared jail term after setting her 43-year-old boyfriend’s house ablaze. The 18-year-old set fire to a curtain in Steven Beddows’ house while he was in bed around 3.40am on February 1. She then ran to a neighbour’s house to raise the alarm when she couldn’t put out the fire herself and told them ‘he made me do it.’According to Metro UK, Mr Beddows managed to put the fire out before any major damage was caused at his home in Offerton, Stockport, then refused to give statements about what had happened. During the court the couple, it was learnt that the couple who are still together, had been arguing about their sex life before the fire was started. Stonehewer’s defence barrister Robert Lancaster said: “There was an argument between them it involved alcohol and sexual activity. “The argument was of some severity which left this defendant upset and angry, and in an emotive state. It is right to say that that she was pushed in a very emotive way and she reacted to her partner in a way she had never done before and in a way that she is deeply sorry for. “She tried to (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

A woman, identified as Boma Mac-Pepple, has been declared wanted by the police for allegedly killing her lover, Nathan Okojaja, aka Junior, in Opobo town, in the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State. PUNCH Metro learnt that the duo had been dating for some time, but had a disagreement over mutual suspicion of infidelity. On Monday, May 9, Okojaja allegedly challenged the suspect for cheating on him. Mac-Pepple also accused him of cheating on her with her friend, one Sarah. The disagreement degenerated into a fight, with Mac-Pepple allegedly sustaining injuries. The suspect immediately took to Facebook around 10.44am same day, calling on her friends to help her locate Okojaja so she could bring him to justice for attacking her. “Any one that sees this boy should not hesitate to call my line 08119**** or 0808280****because every criminal or cult member must be brought to justice, for any crime he committed. “You won’t regret giving me information. Thanks. Do that for my life…my life is in your hands now,” she had said in the Facebook post where she also pasted the picture of the victim. Some of her friends had teased her on the reason for the search, saying they were two lovers who always reconciled after disagreements. She later posted a picture of the injuries she claimed was inflicted on her left ear by Okojaja. A relative, one Peeclaire, who doubted the photo, demanded more proofs, saying he could take the matter “personal.” Another relative, Miller, however, said he knew the duo were lovebirds, accusing her of making up the allegation against the deceased. To convince Miller, she noted the reason for the scuffle in a series of comments edited by our correspondent. “We were not having issues. Yesterday (Sunday), I was coming back from Aunty Felicia’s house around past 7am. I met Junior (Okojaja). He asked me where I was coming from. I asked him what right he had to ask. You know Sarah? You can ask who that girl is to him. As I finished talking, what I could realise was that I was bleeding. “I want to tell you something. Don’t judge people by their appearance. You don’t know what they can do. You know I don’t discriminate against people. A cult member is a cult member. You don’t know what they can be able to do. Someone that can do this kind of thing, can as well kill you,” she said. PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect found the victim around 10.30pm and stabbed him to death. We are sick, tired of doing drugs, prostitution” Playing Ludo as early as 10 am, it was obvious that all was not well with these young Nigerians. Mostly in their thirties, none of them seemed to be in a hurry to leave. Although they were excited as the game went on, it was evident from their looks that . they were victims of drug abuse and prostitution. Some of them are single parents living with their kids in dingy hotel rooms where they chill out to smoke. They cast the look of desperation, helplessness, homelessness, suicidal and dissolute. As they played Ludo, there were arguments and counter-arguments. Then the presence of our correspondent was announced by one of them: “We have a visitor”. Getting their attention was not a problem as our correspondent was introduced as an NGO worker that had come to help them. Meanwhile, they insisted that ‘something’ should be given to each of them before they could tell their stories. After that agreement, they became eager to narrate their ordeals, frweird-world-addicts-prostitute. From Rose, 27, to Bola, 26, Blessing 18, Ebele, 30, Grace, 25, Ngozi, 30, and Busayo, 26, among others, their stories betrayed emotions. Some of them had rashes on their skin while some looked older than their ages. Some had frail frames while you may mistake some for people set to be used for money ritual. But one thing is certain: They are among those who consume the over $1.25billion worth of drugs trafficked in Africa annually, according to a report of the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime, UNODC. As the chat with Sunday Vanguard commenced, their children were seen running around. “I used to look beautiful like you with succulent body but, today, I am a shadow of myself, no thanks to prostitution and cocaine. All I do is sleep with several men all night long and spend the proceeds on drugs. Unfortunately, I cannot stop myself,” Busayo said. Busayo, who dropped out from Lagos State Polytechnic, LASPOTEH, is a single mother of one, and had lived a rough life since her school days before she eventually joined the league of drug users. Her quest for money and enjoyment lured her into prostitution, following which she abandoned her studies. Narrating her heart-rending story, she said: “I was into school runs, enjoying prostitution when a friend introduced me to a man called Fricke. Fricke told me that if I could take Gucci (cocaine), I will be paid 100 dollars and I needed money badly. I jumped at it. It became a money-spinner for me. I felt good. I was on top of my game.” Then Fricke, according to Busayo, dumped her and free money stopped coming. But she had become hooked on drug and would do anything to get it. She began to sell everything she owned including family properties just to get drugs. Today, Busayo has abandoned her only child. “As we speak, I do not know the whereabouts of my child. I wish it is possible to turn back the hand of the clock. I left home after I sold my mother’s refrigerator and other properties. “I take cocaine and sometimes mix it with cannabis. When my body doesn’t get cocaine, it lusts for it. Sometimes I will be vomiting, stooling and sweating. Drug addicts like us will do whatever we can to avoid it. You will be forced to steal to get drugs.” Lamenting the stigma and discrimination associated with drug abuse, Busayo said she was tired of her life as an addict. Busayo now lives in the dingy hotel room where she joins others like her to smoke and beg for alms. “I am full of regrets; even my mother was disappointed when she discovered I was into drugs. I want to quit but I cannot. My mother invited me for prayers and fasting for seven days but I ran away from home. I cannot imagine myself going home like this because people will feel I have been used for sacrifice,” she stated. “What I need now is an accommodation to chill out, food and treatment that will wash drugs off my system. They say there is something known as detoxification that cleans drug from the system. If I can be helped with rehabilitation, money for food and clothing, I will go back to learn some trade because I cannot go back to school again. Besides, I have nobody to pay my school fees.” Drug addicts, prostitutes are doomed – Ngozi For 30-year-old Ngozi, prostitution, drug are a dangerous mix because “the moment you get involved, you are doomed for life”. Ngozi, who was a club girl, was into marijuana, popularly known as Igbo, before a man she met at a hotel in Apapa area of Lagos introduced her to cocaine in 2003. Full of energy and ready to explore, Ngozi, out of ignorance, jumped at the offer and became addicted to hard drugs. She became so much attached to it that she, in the process, got pregnant for another drug addict. Unfortunately, neither Ngozi nor the boyfriend could control each other. Ngozi kept the pregnancy but smoked throughout the period of pregnancy without visiting a doctor. Like a sheep without a shepherd, she was able to carry the pregnancy for nine months even under the influence of drugs. Describing the life of a drug addict as bad, Ngozi lamented: “It is a big setback. It is a life of begging because all you have will go into drugs. Drugs’ use makes you dependable; it makes you desert your family and loved ones. People discriminate against you. You are abandoned as nobody will help you. People assume that every kobo they give will be spent on drugs. It has happened to me, and I was ashamed but I don’t feel guilty. People are not free with those that do drugs; they don’t want to associate with them; that is the height of the situation. Everybody has the impression that you are a thief.” On how she became addicted, she narrated: “I was doing Indian Hemp before one useless man came and damaged my life with cocaine. I never knew he was planning to damage my life. I thought it was all enjoyment. What is killing me today is that I cannot be a mother to my son”. She further explained: “Right now, I move from one bunk to another. Once it is night I go for hustle (prostitution). Sometimes I wash for people to raise money for food and drugs.” Ngozi, who spoke with rage in her voice, told Sunday Vanguard that not being able to take care of her son was her greatest regret. “My child was taken away from me a month after I had him because I kept taking drugs while breastfeeding. My boyfriend’s mum who took me to hospital to be delivered, collected my child from me after a month. “I advise people to avoid illicit drugs. Government should try and provide more jobs because idleness causes people to go into drugs. If there are enough jobs, there will be less people doing drugs”. I began to do drugs at age 11 – Blessing 18-year-old Blessing cried (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

According to Vanguard an Indian student said Monday she was made to remove her bra in public by school authorities over exam cheating fears, minutes before sitting a crucial test. Authorities issue strict dress codes to tackle widespread cheating on the entrance test for India’s prestigious medical colleges. But there is no mention of bras on this year’s prohibited articles list which includes dark clothes, long sleeves, brooches, badges, closed shoes and socks. The student, who has not been identified, told media she was at the test centre in Kerala state on Sunday when a metal detector started to beep during a security check. “At that time, they told that without removing my innerwear I cannot enter the exam hall since they (bra hooks) are made of metal. So, I took off my bra there itself and gave it to my mom, she was waiting outside,” the student told NDTV news network. The girl was quoted in The Times of India as saying that she lost all her “confidence and composure when I was asked to remove it in front of everybody”. Another student’s parent said his daughter was forced to remove the button on her jeans after it set off the metal detector. “She was sent back, she came back and told me ‘Papa, the jeans button has to be removed, the button is an objectionable item’. Promptly I removed the button,” the father told NDTV. “Then I went to a shop about three kilometres from the exam centre and bought a new dress for her after getting the shop opened.” The school principal said he was unaware of the student’s underwear ordeal but admitted his school stuck to the rules. “We have clear instructions that if the metal detector beeps, no one can be allowed inside. Punch reports that the tragic death of a 23-year-old apprentice tailor, Jamiu Ayoade, has caused grief in Ijeshatedo, Lagos State. Jamiu was allegedly shot dead by the Divisional Police Officer of the Ijesha Police Station, identified as Muhammed Yakubu. PUNCH Metro learnt that Jamiu, who lived on Oke-Onijo Street, had gone to Wosilatu Daudu, a neighbouring street, to attend a birthday party of a friend, Abubakar Animashaun, around 4pm on Sunday. It was gathered that the DPO and his men went on surveillance to the venue around 5pm, and left a few minutes after they were told of what the event was all about. About two hours later, the team was said to have returned to the area in a van, announcing their presence with blaring of sirens and gunshots, which scared away the fun seekers. The DPO reportedly followed some people, including Jamiu, who ran to safety in a building. He was said to have shot Jamiu at a close range with his service pistol. An eyewitness, who claimed to be the brother of the birthday boy, Jelili Bakare, toldPUNCH Metro that the policemen fled the scene, immediately Jamiu was hit by a bullet. He said, “Some policemen came around 5pm when the event just started. They asked a woman called Iya Aliya what was going on. She told them that it was a birthday party and they left. Around 7.30pm, I was sitting with my friends outside when I heard the blaring of police sirens. The van stopped some distance to the venue of the party and some policemen, led by the DPO, came out and started shooting. People ran helter-skelter. Many people fell into a gutter. The DPO brought out a pistol and chased some people into a passage. He shot twice at them. A bullet hit Jamiu in the head, while another person, Akeem, was shot in the hand. Immediately they saw the harm they had caused, they entered their van and fled. We went to the Ijesha Police Station, but we were not allowed to make a report. We then went to the Itire Police Division, but we were directed back to the Ijesha division. “Nobody was fighting that would have warranted the police action. Around 9pm, the DPO and his men came back in about five vans. Nobody was arrested. “This morning (Monday), we were invited to the secretariat of the Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area. We narrated what happened to an official called Mrs. Raji. She called the DPO on the telephone and he met us in her office. “The woman told us to excuse them. After their discussion, the woman called us in. She said the DPO told her that Jamiu had a case with the police. I was shocked. I told the woman that the boy was an apprentice and easy-going. He did not drink or smoke and had never been arrested before. The woman said I should not worry.” Animashaun, who was marking his 22nd birthday, said he had yet to recover from the shock, adding that he was pained Jamiu was killed for no just cause. “I didn’t know the mission of the policemen at the venue because there was no fight. Jamiu was a decent person. He was my friend. It was the DPO that shot him,” he added. Jamiu’s brother, Taofiq Ayoade, said the victim was rushed to a private hospital in the community from where he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba. “He gave up the ghost on the way to LUTH. He was not a suspect. He was learning tailoring and was supposed to graduate this year. He was not a criminal. He would leave for his workplace around 9am and come back by 8.30pm. He was 23. Our mother lives in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The officer that killed him must face the consequence of his action,” he said. Taofiq added that the deceased was buried on Monday (yesterday) in accordance with Islamic rites. Nigerian blogosphere is buzzing right now and the trending word is ‘Mercy.’ Ever since news poured in on Friday that popular actress, Mercy Aigbe, was beaten silly by her husband, Lanre Gentry and she, in response, returned to allegedly break down his gate and carted away all her belongings, social media has been wild with tales flying around with reckless abandon on what truly happened between the couple. This latest development comes after persistent rumours of rampant domestic abuse in the marriage of the Gentrys over the years. Pictures of Mercy’s battered face were posted on several blogs, and she also posted a picture preaching against domestic violence on her Instagram page. This was even as Lanre took to the Internet to profess his love for his wife and swear that he could never beat her. However, as is to be expected, commenters online are divided with some sympathetic to Mercy and others standing up for her husband. According to Punch, online activist Japheth Omojuwa wrote, “I just saw (the) Mercy Aigbe photos. I hope the animal that did that to her has since been arrested. Too dangerous to live with humans.” David Damilola wrote, “So Mercy Aigbe was using her Victims movie to reveal her marital status.” A fan, @omobolabee wrote, “Marriage should be a safe haven and not a battlefield. A bar operator on Lekki Beach Road, Ademola Ogunbona, says he has lost his livelihood to the alleged debt of N757,750 incurred by one Mrs. Shaw, aka Mama G. PUNCH Metro learnt that the woman had gone to the bar around 6am on August 15, 2016, to have fun, which lasted till about 1am the following day. It was said that Mama G instructed the barman to serve customers that came to the bar throughout her stay, and promised to pick up the bill for the drinks they consumed. Our correspondent gathered that one of the major beneficiaries of Mama G’s gesture was a man who came to the bar with his friends at about 6.30pm to celebrate his birthday. She allegedly ordered many rounds of drinks for the man and his friends and told Ogunbona to add their bill to hers. However, at about 1am, when she had reportedly become inebriated, some persons were said to have stormed the bar and took her away in a Honda car to Rotary Garden Estate, Ilasan, Ajah, where she lives with her husband. In a chat with PUNCH Metro, Ogunbona said he, two of his workers and the chief security officer of the shops in the area followed the car, but the security guards at the estate gate did not allow them in. He said, “Mama G came to my bar at about 6am on August 15, 2016, and ordered drinks. She told me to serve everybody that came to the bar and promised to pay. In the afternoon, I told her that her bill was over N200,000. She slapped my face and asked me whether she looked like a debtor. “She said I should serve very expensive drinks to whoever came to the bar. She even called some beggars who were passing by into the bar to drink. Around 6.30pm, a man came into the bar to mark his birthday along with his friends, numbering about 16, including ladies. She told them not to pay. “They took five bottles of Remy Martin, seven bottles of Absolute Vodka and three bottles of Sky. They also smoke cigarettes. They left around 10pm. At about 1am, four men and a woman came to pick the woman. I insisted that I would collect my money, but they took her away. “They dropped her off at the estate gate and left. She banged the gate repeatedly. Eventually, her housemaids came to pick her. I was not allowed to enter into the estate with her.” The father of two children explained that he went to report the case at the Ajiwe Police Division and submitted the bill to the police. He said the police invited the woman, but her husband sent a message to them that she had gone to Ghana. “He told the police that Mama G would come back in December 2016. The police sent another letter to the man in December. On January 11, he transferred N200,000 into my bank account. “I called him and asked for the remaining money, he said I should contact his wife’s lawyer. When I called the lawyer, he said I should manage the money like that. I reported back to the station and they invited his wife again. Neither the woman nor her husband showed up. Their cook and driver were arrested. The lawyer secured their bail on the same day. “Since the case was (Click on the link below to read more) <[URL: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

Punch reports that the Nigeria Police Force says it has launched a manhunt for one Inusa Saidu Biu, a riot policeman, who threatened to kill 200 persons if ailing President Muhammadu dies. The police stated that it had commenced investigation into the content of his post on the social media, with a view to identifying the policeman and taking necessary actions. Biu took to his Facebook timeline on Tuesday, claiming that some persons he tagged as enemies of the President were orchestrating his (Buhari) death. He rained curses on the so called enemies and threatened to take 200 lives if Buhari died from the illness. He wrote, “After they poisoned him, God did not let him die; Buhari, the cat with nine lives. Now they want him to resign so that they would continue to steal our ‘yam’ (treasury). No way; your enemies will die like mosquitoes before you, including those who are commenting negatively. Shege ya buro uba, Zamu ci uwaku. If Buhari dies, I promise to kill 200 people.” The post, which had been deleted from Biu’s timeline, triggered reactions from commentators, who let out a stream of invectives on him. Some Nigerians on the social media also called for his arrest and prosecution, noting that the post could incite crisis in the country. “I wish to alert the Inspector-General of Police and the entire police force on the recent outburst of a man by name, Inusa Saidu Biu, from the Biu Local Goverment Area in Borno State in mobile police uniform, threatening the unity of this great country. If truly he is still serving in the Nigeria Police Force, I think he needs to be picked up and prosecuted in order to serve as a deterrent to his likes who portray the force in bad light with their bad influence on the general public,” a Facebookuser, Olabisi Adeniyi, wrote. Another poster, Mock Samuel Kure, said Inusa was unprofessional and desperate, urging the police to disarm him before he made good his threat. He wrote, “The likes of Inusa Saidu Biu don’t have any business holding our guns. How can a serving policeman threaten to kill 200 persons if God decides to call Buhari, His servant, home? “Buhari is a living being with life and blood and will definitely die one day like all mortals. “The dangerous thing is that Inusa Biu has made up his mind to bring down 200 persons for no just cause, hence, it is a thing of utmost concern to all citizens since we don’t know the day or hour that the angel of death will visit Buhari. A suspected robber, Lawrence Nwede, has accused operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command, of releasing a member of his gang, who allegedly procured a gun they used for operations. Nwede said the gang member, whom he identified only as Uche, was released by SARS a day after he (Uche) was arrested and brought to the command. Although the 27-year-old indigene of Ebonyi State, who was paraded on Tuesday at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja, confessed to being a member of the Confraternity, he insisted that he had never been involved in any robbery. He told our correspondent that he, Uche and other members of the cult contributed to buy the gun for N50,000, saying the arm was usually in his (Nwede) custody. PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect was nabbed by policemen on April 4 on Church Street, Okokomaiko, and the gun was found on him. He was said to have been subsequently transferred to the command, where he mentioned Uche as his accomplice. In a chat with PUNCH Metro, Nwede stated that his wife fled home with their son after she discovered the gun where it was kept in their apartment. He said he feared that his wife could disclose the discovery and decided to return the arm to his gang members. He said, “I am a member of the . I was arrested on my way to hand over the gun to Uche and other members in the Alaba International Market. I had called them on the telephone to come and collect it, but they refused. I told the policemen that I would have taken it to the station, but I would be detained. “Uche and I are both gang members. I gave his details and those of other members to the police and he was arrested. He passed a night in SARS cell, but was released the following day. He is a big man and has a lot of money. He imports wires and some other products. He has a shop in the Alaba International Market. “I have nothing to hide; I have never robbed or take anything from anybody before. We raised N50,000; Uche and some other members bought the gun, while I kept it. Anytime a member wanted to use it, I made it available. I used it to defend myself whenever hoodlums came to disturb me in my shop in Alaba.” However, a mild drama played out when a SARS operative, who was with the suspect during the interview, refuted Nwede’s claim that Uche was culpable. “He was only trying to drag people into the matter. We brought the man (Uche) he mentioned before him. The man asked whether he (Nwede) knew him, but he denied,” the policeman said. But Nwede swiftly reacted to the operative’s statement, saying he stood his ground that Uche was a member when they were brought together. The command’s Public Relations Officer, Olarinde Famous-Cole, said Nwede was entitled to his opinion, adding that Uche would not have been released if he was found wanting. He said, “Investigation is still ongoing. The suspect can say anything at the point of interview. What he said is not true. Who is he (Uche) that the police would allow him to go if he is culpable? The command will never do that.” Also paraded was one 24-year-old Ebele Odikwe, who allegedly specialised in robbing traders at the Alaba International Market along with other members of his gang. “My boys and I used to enter shops in the market. Traders gave us money out of fear. Sometimes, we realised N50,000 per day. We are eight in number. Some of them are already in prison. I have a wife with a kid,” he added. Earlier, while briefing journalists, the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said 68 suspects were arrested in connection with the gang war at Idi Oro, Mushin, on Monday, while nine of them were released after investigations. “Thirteen armed robbers were arrested across the state. During encounters with the police, two lost their lives. Eight different arms and 18 rounds of ammunition were recovered, while 10 vehicles of different brands were also recovered,” he added. The command also presented certificates of commendation and undisclosed sums to families of four policemen – Inspector Godwin Iruagbalaji, Inspector Pemi Francis, Sergeant Mamuda Dembo and Sergeant Ido Ekoro – who lost their lives during a militant attack in Ishawo, Ikorodu, on April 9.
