CrimeRev. King May Be Executed Next Week by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:39pm On Apr 22, 2017
New Telegraph reports that judgement day stares at Chukwuemeka Ezeugo’s face, known widely as Rev. King. The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, Saturday Telegraph gathered may have concluded plans to sign the warrant to enable him to face the hangman’s noose next week.

Recall that the state government announced on Tuesday through the Justice ministry that his case is being reviewed for necessary action. Although, his was not the only one being appraised by the state government, King stole the headlines because of the aura around his personality.

Little are been said about the others on the death row whose fate, like that of the General Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly (CPA), are hanging on the balance.

Yes, everything seems set for his hanging. Though, he may not be the only one that might be executed soon. Going by the feelers we are getting, it is likely the governor would sign the warrant next week, and the hanging would follow immediately to avoid unnecessary sentiment.

What was put out on Tuesday was to gauge the mood and prepare the minds of the populace on what to come,” a source at the state Ministry of Justice, who craved anonymity, confided in Saturday Telegraph.

King, it appears, fits into the late Afro Beat King, Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s reference to a Very Important personality, in this case, Prisoner (VIP), a coinage used to describe the then movers and shakers of the Nigerian society.

Since the preacher’s travail in the hands of the authorities a few years back, anytime his name is mentioned, it automatically headlines the news. He is said to be living like a true king in the Lagos prison in spite of his condemned status.

King was sentenced to death in 2007 by a Lagos State High Court over the death of one of his church members after he allegedly set her on fire. Miffed by the judgement, King quickly appealed the ruling which he lost at the Court of Appeal.

He ran to the Supreme Court for reprieve, but met another road block. Instead of clemency, the apex court ratified his death sentence. This confirmation, ironically, came on a Friday that happened to be his birthday.

When Saturday Telegraph visited CPA, which is located at Ugo Nnabuife Street, off Murtala Muhammad Airport Road, Ajao Estate, Isolo, on Wednesday, there was total quietness.

This was an indication that members were unaware of the Lagos State government’s position on King. The entrance gate was under lock and no activity within the church premises.

A few followers that our reporter saw and spoke with sported a clean shaved head and bushy beards. It was also learnt that all the pastors at the church use ‘King’ as their surname.

The neighbourhood was calm and devoid of the usual boisterousness that was its hallmark before King was caged. Those who spoke with our reporter on condition of anonymity seemed to be enjoying this development.

“We now have our peace since ‘their holiness’ went to jail. We just hope the government will follow up with his hanging that is long overdue. Only God knows why they are delaying the thing.

We hope it would not be another abracadabra. We have been praying for his execution. He committed a lot of atrocities and deserved to die,” tone of the neighbours said.

But, his devotees have described the latest pronouncement on King, as a huge joke. When Saturday Telegraph confronted them with the position of the state government, they waved it off amusingly, expressing belief that God will diffuse any ‘evil thinking’ towards their G.O. One of his members who refused to give his name, boasted: “He will return to join us in a most triumphant way that would shock Nigerians.

Our General Overseer, the most holiness, Rev. Dr. King is coming back. He told us he would come back and we believed him. We don’t need to doubt that he is coming back.

He foresaw everything happening now long before the manipulation of the devil.” Another, who identified himself simply as John, said: “These things are happening to strengthen him.

However, you the media are also contributing to the negative report around him, because you people want to sell your papers. But God will surprise all of you.

The governor may have given his verdict just like the courts, but you can quote me, nothing will happen to the man of God. All those who lied against our father in the lord have been forgiven.

This is what he told us. It is only left for them to repent from their evil ways.” Two others who spoke to Saturday Telegraph near the canal where they had gone to pray, added: “What you are seeing is the handiwork of witches and wizards.

Soon a new story will be told. King’s story will reshape Christendom.” One of them further affirmed: “Whether people realise it or not, everybody now knows his holiness, our G.O. The front pages of newspapers are flooded with his name. People are yearning to read about him in the social media. I can confirm to you that by all these, a lot of people have become endeared to him.”

Despite this enthusiasm from his followers, many landlords within the church environ, express the hope that Ambode would sign King’s death warrant to hasten the process of his end without further delay. One of his next door landlords, who applauded the latest move by the state government, said: “I saw this coming a long time ago.”

The landlord, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added: “Now, we need the governor to quickly sign the papers, because if he does not, we are in trouble. “The church members had been saying they would take over our houses and they have been threatening to deal with some of us. They asked us to just wait for his return and see what would happen.

That was why we were happy immediately we heard the news from the state government. In fact, I can tell you that we are very happy at the turn of events now. We are happy because it would mark the end of a group constituting a nuisance to this vicinity.

They have been lords unto themselves.” Another landlord, who also begged to be shielded for security reasons, said he wants the governor to quickly sign the death warrant to avoid lobby from both church leaders and other influential members of the society.

“Ours is a funny society. Ambode should speed up this process so that we can permanently have our peace here. King killed and as such he deserves to die too.

The governor should do this and on time. The truth is that his church has not impacted the community in any way. We are eagerly awaiting his death.”

However, Bishop Stephen Ogedengbe, founder (Click on the link below to read more)

RomanceFemale Nigerian Marries Lesbian Partner In US by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 10:01am On Apr 22, 2017
A Nigerian lesbian woman, 53-year-old Moji Solar-Percy, walked down the aisle with her American ‘wife’ on Tuesday in the US, celebrating the freedom that she would not have had in Nigeria.

Punch reports that Solar-Percy, a real estate mogul, runs a company, Solar Worldwide Realty Inc. in Staten Island, New York. She gushed about her love for the woman, with whom she probably would have been arrested if the wedding had taken place in Nigeria.

Solar-Percy, who hails from Ijero-Ekiti, Ekiti State, describes herself as a mother, realtor, LGBT activist, speaker, coach and host on her Facebook page, did not reveal the name of her partner.

She wrote on her Facebook wall, where friends and families have been celebrating her new status, that she embarked on the marital journey with fear.

“Today I woke up in a cold sweat. I was drenched with fear, for a moment. I forgot where I was. I ask you all to close your eyes, imagine what would have happened Saturday at our wedding if we were in Nigeria.

“Even though we went to great lengths to make sure we had security, the thought of the police barging in and arresting all our guests, my wife and I, to be carted off to jail, the women raped and beaten, the men brutalised, and my children beaten along with everyone else.

“When I got my bearings, I got on my knees and thanked God for his grace of living in the US. Then I remembered all the people that could not do what we did with grace and class. To all of you (gay) all over Africa, #westandforyou. May all our days be filled with blessings and grace.”

In another post on Facebook, she hinted that one of her children, actually did her make-up and hair.

“My make-up was all I wanted that day. My weave looked like it grew out of my scalp. To have my first child do my hair and make-up, then walk me down the aisle was one of the best memories of the evening,” she said.

According to her, the daughter had been doing her hair and makeup since she was 12.

HealthBuhari Chronically I'll - Perry Brimah by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 2:47pm On Apr 21, 2017
Popular columnist and convener of Every Nigerian Do Something, Perry Brimah, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is “chronically ill” and in need of urgent rest.

Brimah, in a statement on Friday, alleged that the President was being kept locked up in Aso Rock by some “selfish cabal” instead of receiving best therapy.

The columnist flayed Nigerians for their uncompassionate reaction to Buhari’s health status despite seeing his “asthenic figure now no more than skin-and-bones as he sat down for the Jummah service” with Kaduna state governor Nasir el-Rufai last Friday.

He wrote, “There can be no denying how chronically ill president Muhammadu Buhari looks when he seldom does appear in public. The last time was last week Friday when Kaduna state governor Nasir el-Rufai came visiting.

“The videos of Buhari walking for Friday prayers bring tears to eyes. His asthenic figure now no more than skin-and-bones as he sat down for the Jummah service was heart-wrenching.

“How can a people be so cold they expose a grandfather to this type of extreme stress and deprive him from his needed rest and medical expert attention by tasking him to lead the world’s most complex nation?

“Have we as a people lost our humanity that we continue to task Buhari like this and not campaign for him to be relieved of our burden and rest towards recovery?

“It is insane to continue to deprive him and the nation by locking him up and burdening him with a challenge too heavy for even a strong young man to bear talk-less an old man who just returned from a 49-day leave in which he received blood transfusions and unknown cocktails of serious medications.

“For those of us in the medical profession, we recognise the president’s loss of hair on his head and facial hair as well as his reported blood transfusions as possible evidence of cancer chemotherapy.

“God forbid, however, if this is the condition the president is being managed for that the cabal is hiding from the people, the wickedness of the selfish cabal that forces him to remain locked up, “dying” in Aso Rock instead of receiving best therapy, should be vehemently opposed by us masses.

“Whoever is found guilty of hiding any serious diagnosis the president may have and bundling him back to deteriorate in Aso Rock under pressure of Nigeria’s humongous burden should be dealt with according to the full extent of the law. This is not only criminal but sinful.

“A great fear is, what if (God forbid) president Buhari should collapse? This time he (Click on the link to read more)

EducationResolve The Impasse Or We Protest - NOUN Law Graduates Tell DSS by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 1:16pm On Apr 21, 2017
Law Graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) under the aegis of Law Graduates Forum (LGF) on Tuesday played guests to the Directorate of State Services (DSS) at the organization’s Head Office in Maitama, Abuja.

The NOUN alumnus, who had earlier notified the Nigerian government of their intension to embark on a peaceful protest over the decision of the Council of Legal Education (CLE) to exclude them from participating in the Nigerian Law School programme, leading to the call to bar ceremony and formal induction as legal practitioners in Nigeria, were invited by the DSS for a meeting.

The delegation of the Law graduates was led by the chairman, NOUN’s Law Graduates Forum, Mr. Carl Mogboro and Comrade Danjuma, a Convocation representative in the Governing Council.

Mogboro, while making his presentation expressed the frustration meted on his members by the Council of Legal Education (CLE) in denying them participation in the professional training at the Nigerian Law School, adding that although the LGF has sought the intervention of the judiciary in the matter, by taking the case to court, there has been a systematic attempt to further frustrate that effort through avoidable delays and unnecessary technicalities, hence the desire of the body to embark a peaceful protest.

EducationDSS Invites NOUN Law Graduates' Chairman Over Protest Against Law School by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 5:09pm On Apr 20, 2017
Following the notice of protest issued to the federal government and security agencies by Law Graduates Forum (LGF) of National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) over its face-off with Nigerian Law School, the Department of State Service (DSS), has invited the graduates’ chairman, Carl Umegboro, to DSS office at Asokoro on Thursday, 20 April, 2017 at 10.00am.

According to Daily Post, Mohammed Bashiru, the DSS personnel who signed the letter, said the invitation was at the instance of the Director General, Lawal Musa Daura.

It explained that the DSS boss seeks alternative measures to address the contentious issues, noting that in most similar public protests in the past, miscreants and unscrupulous elements hijacked it and utilized the opportunity to attack innocent citizens and involved in sundry crimes.

DSS, however, commended the forum for maintaining peace and reaching out to the authorities ahead of the actions, saying it’s indicative of maturity and willingness to allow the matter to be gently resolved.

Reacting, Carl Umegboro, told DAILY POST that, “As a law-abiding citizen, I will honor the invitation as scheduled.”

So far, our discussions have been cordial, and even if reverse is the case, I will still honor it.

“The Law Graduates Forum (LGF) has articulated 20 points and issues for consideration on the Law School crisis for presentation at the meeting.”

NOUN Law Graduates Forum had written to then Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo on alleged failure to deliver judgment in their case against the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

They sought his intervention in the case challenging their non-admittance to the Law School.

LGF had sued at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, following CLE’s refusal to extend admission quotas to NOUN in the Law School despite the open university’s accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

HealthIs There A Diabetes Cure? by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 2:39pm On Apr 20, 2017
With all the research on diabetes and advances in diabetes treatments, it’s tempting to think someone has surely found a diabetes cure by now. But the reality is that there is no cure for diabetes — neither type 1 diabetesnor type 2 diabetes.

However, there are treatments, including simple things you can do daily, that make a big difference.

Is there a natural therapy that can cure diabetes?
No. Natural therapies such as deep abdominal breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, and biofeedback can help relieve stress. And emotional stress affects your blood sugar levels. So learning to relax is important in managing your diabetes.

Supplements don’t cure diabetes, either. Some natural supplements may interact dangerously with your diabetes medication. Others have been shown to help improve your diabetes, but always check with your doctor before taking any supplement.

Be skeptical about claims of a diabetes cure. A genuine cure will have been tested repeatedly in clinical trials with clear success.

What lifestyle changes can help me manage my diabetes?
Even though there’s no diabetes cure, diabetes (Click on the link below to read more)

HealthEaster Tragedy: Seven Killed, 19 Injured In Lagos Accidents by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 11:02am On Apr 18, 2017
Punch reports that no fewer than seven people lost their lives on Monday in two separate accidents in the Gbagada and Surulere areas of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that while two passengers died and 14 sustained varying degree of injuries in the Gbagada crash, five died and five others were injured in the Surulere incident.

Our correspondents gathered that the Gbagada accident happened after a commercial bus had a head-on collision with a cab at about 3pm.

Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency were said to have rescued the 14 survivors and rushed them to the Gbagada General Hospital, Gbagada, and the Trauma Centre, Ikeja.

The General Manager of LASEMA, Mr. Adeshina Tiamiyu, who confirmed the tragedy, noted that the deceased were taken to the Lagos Mainland Hospital mortuary.

He said, “We received a distress call about the accident at about 3pm. It happened around Gbagada bus stop, inward Anthony.

“Preliminary investigation conducted at the scene revealed that a Volkswagon bus had a head-on collision with a Mazda taxi.

“Fourteen persons were rescued by emergency responders and taken to the Gbagada General Hospital and the Trauma Centre, as they sustained varying degree of injuries.

“Two lives were lost and their remains were moved by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit to the Lagos Mainland Hospital mortuary. The damaged vehicles were recovered with the help of our towing truck for free flow of traffic in the area.”

In the Surulere incident, which occurred around 6pm around the Funsho Williams Avenue, five passengers lost their lives after a commercial bus burst into flames.

A witness, Rasaq Amao, who spoke with one of our correspodnents on the telephone, said he was playing football inside the National Stadium when he saw smokes billowing into the sky.

“Around 6pm, I suddenly saw heavy smokes billowing into the sky and left with some friends. I traced the smokes to the under bridge area, where a commercial bus was burning,” he said.

Amao stated that four persons were brought out dead from the bus, while other passengers were rescued and rushed to a hospital.

“I saw four dead bodies. People assisted in rescuing some passengers. They have been taken to a hospital. I learnt that the fire was caused by mechanical faults,” he said.

Another witness, who identified himself only as Ola, said LASEMA officials battled to put out the fire, adding that the accident caused a traffic jam on the road.

CrimeBarren Mom Offers 12-year Old Daughter To Step-dad As Compensation by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 12:07pm On Apr 12, 2017
Punch has reported that a 12-year old girl was repeatedly raped by her step-father so she would become pregnant because her mother had been sterilised.
The couple, who have been jailed, used the girl as a ‘surrogate mother’ and forced her to have sex with the man until she became pregnant.

She later gave birth to a child which has now been taken into care.

The step-father was jailed for 18 years at Warwick Crown Court after admitting two charges of rape, while the girl’s mother was sentenced to six years after pleading guilty to conspiracy to rape and child cruelty.

The couple, from south Warwickshire, who are both in their 30s, cannot be named to protect the girl’s identity.
Judge Andrew Lockhart QC said: “It is the responsibility of those with the gift of children to look after them and prepare them for life with love and kindness.

Great trust is placed in the hands of those who are parents; and when that trust is broken, great damage is done to the child and to society. You planned to have a child together, but were told it was not possible.

“You both then decided that one way forward would be for her to become pregnant and for you to raise the child.
“That was a wicked thing to do. It had no regard for her age or for the future damage it would do, or for her welfare or the welfare of any child that might be born.

“This was not just rape, but rape with the intention of ensuring the pregnancy of a 12-year-old child.”
The court heard how the girl’s mother had “actively encouraged her to become pregnant” after beginning a relationship with the man who she met online.

The pair had gone to a GP to see if the mother’s sterilisation could be reversed but were told that was not possible.
Prosecutor Steven Bailey said: “That did not please the defendants, so they decided to do the next best thing.

“With no regard for the feelings of the girl, let alone the baby they were about to force on her, the plan was for him to have sex with her to get her pregnant as a surrogate.

EducationWhy NOUN Students' Participation In Law School, NYSC Still Dicey by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 12:54pm On Apr 07, 2017
Vanguard reports that if students who enrolled for the law programme at the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, had known that upon graduation from the institution they would not be allowed to attend the Nigerian Law School, they would not have opted for the law programme of the institution. This is because though they are graduates of law, unfortunately, they cannot be addressed as lawyers, because they have not attended law school or been called to the bar.

Of what use is a law degree from a prestigious university if the certificate acquired is not recognised by the Nigerian Law School, queried NOUN students as they decry being denied entrance into law school, year in year out. NOUN admission strength soars: Considering the admission strength of NOUN since take-off in 2001 where about 32,400 students gained admission, the intake rose in 2011 to 57,759. The school has 63 study centres even as it claims to offer over 50 programmes and 750 courses. Incidentally, limitations of NOUN graduates go beyond being banned from law school. Graduates of the institution are also not called to serve in the National Youth Service Corps scheme.

NOUN delivers courses by correspondence: According to Vanguard’s findings, the major reason NOUN graduates are not allowed into the national service and law school is the Act establishing the university which states that the institution should deliver courses by correspondence.

The Council for Legal Education, the agency responsible for managing law schools, in interpreting this Act and in particular the word ‘correspondence,’ considers NOUN as a correspondence and part-time institution. It, therefore, ruled that graduates from the law department would not be accepted into law schools. NOUN is not a correspondence school As published on the website of Law Repository Nigeria, the Council has prescribed conditions which a university faculty must comply with before its products are eligible for admission into law school. It also prescribed good conduct as a condition for admission to the law school and eventual call to the Bar.

NOUN’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdalla Adamu in his response debunked the claims, saying NOUN is not a correspondence school and also not part-time institution as referred to by people. He said, “It is Open and Distance Learning (ODL),” and explained that students in the school interface with lecturers. Adamu said, “In order to meet with the requirements of the Council for Legal Education, we made it mandatory for our study centres to have classrooms where Law lecturers teach students. We have mock courts in our study centres where students simulate a court situation.” To him, the problem was more of policy and understanding, adding, “we are moving towards solving it as the National Assembly has stepped into the problem and we are hoping that it would be sorted out this year.”

The vice-chancellor also posited that there is a link between the problem of the law programme and the NYSC. Part-time students can’t serve: According to him, statutorily, the NYSC doesn’t call people to serve if they are doing courses that are considered to be part-time. Do you see the link? Regrettably, he lamented that the NYSC is also hanging on that belief, and therefore, sees NOUN students as part-time students. Professional education “However, a bill is before the National Assembly, in which we requested the lawmakers to expunge the word correspondence and replace it with ODL. The bill has passed through the first and second readings and is waiting for the third reading,” he added.

Reacting to the denial of NOUN law graduates from the Nigerian Law School, the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Professor Olanrewaju Onadeko (SAN), said: “I cannot speak on the matter because it is in public hearing before the National Assembly.” Law school has strict requirement: In his reaction, Professor Itse Sagay said that the law school represent the professional education side and they have very strict entry requirement, adding that it has some minimum standard that has to be met.

He said, “In accrediting a university for law school, the Nigerian Legal Council sends names of their top professors and all members of staff to the institution to check their programmes, course, facilities and how they are taught. “Therefore, passing through to a law faculty does not entitle a university graduate automatic ticket to law school. Universities must meet their criteria. So, I don’t know whether NOUN has met these classified criteria. NOUN should ask the authorities of Law School what they really need to do to qualify their graduates for law school.”

CelebritiesThings You Didn't Know About The Obama Sisters by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 4:47pm On Oct 23, 2016
Hard as it may be to believe, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama's two daughters, Malia and Sasha, are all grown up. As the Obama family prepares to vacate the White House, we're taking a closer look at the super-famous siblings to see what they've done, what they're doing, and what they're about to do.

Malia is taking a gap year before college

Here's something that will make you feel old: after moving into the White House at the young age of 10 in 2009, the Obamas' oldest daughter, Malia, is now getting ready to go to college. In May 2006, the White House announced Malia was opting to take a gap year before heading off to Harvard University in 2017. The administration did not discuss what she planned to do during that break. So far, the hiatus has been a public relations nightmare plagued by scuttlebutt about partying, smoking, and provocative dancing—which is not really news unless you're the president's daughter.

Malia was an intern on Girls

In 2015, Malia became the envy of every teenage girl in America when she was hired as an intern on the set of Lena Dunham's hit HBO comedy, Girls. Exactly what her intern duties involved remain unclear. To this day, only a few photos of Malia on set have been leaked. "It wasn't clear if Malia did any work or would appear in an episode," Page Six quipped at the time.
This isn't the first time Malia has interned on the set of a hit TV series. In 2014, she spent a summer on the Halle Berry sci-fi drama, Extant. That internship was supposed to be top-secret, but it was eventually leaked to the press by The Wrap. "I can tell you that she is graceful, and lovely, and just charming and delightful…she's pretty remarkable," Berry's costar, Camryn Manheim, told Entertainment Tonight, after word got out that Malia had been on set. "Any parent would look at her and be proud."

The suspect had told the police that her lover had sent her away from their apartment over the issue.
But she said on hearing about the case, Sodiq’s mother asked her to return to him, promising to come over to settle the disagreement between them.

RomanceLagos Sex Workers Beg Customers For Jobs by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 2:02pm On Oct 22, 2016
There was a time when the red-light districts of Lagos like Allen Avenue, Opebi, Ojuelegba and CMS, among others, bustled with human traffic of customers and sex traders who paraded their ‘flesh wares’ under the glare of traffic lights in the night.
Those days, when young women in various stages of UnCloth walked up to any vehicle that pulled over beside them and made seductive gestures to male occupants in a relaxed manner, seem to have passed.
Now, as Saturday PUNCH investigation revealed, a new desperation has descended on the sex traders of Lagos, one with a hungry intent to make quick cash, any amount of cash even, just to survive the hard times, as fewer customers visit the sex hubs.
There is no doubt that the economic crunch in the country has made these young women hungrier. As companies are developing strategies to survive hard times, Lagos prostitutes have re-strategised their operations in order to cope.
In one of the “fact-finding missions” of our correspondents to Allen Avenue, Tania, a young woman, whose youthful but heavily made up face suggested she could be between the ages of 22 and 26, told one of our correspondents, who posed as a prospective customer, that she would prefer an overnight service.
Asked why, as all her negotiations tended towards the fact that she did not like the popular “short-time”, favoured by men who simply want to “get in and get out”, Tania explained the economic sense in her strategy.
“I won’t have to pay for the daily room charge to Sisi Mi (apparently, the sobriquet of her madam). Even if I do short-time and I don’t use the room, we do it beside a wall or on the boot of your car, so far as I go back to the room this night, I will still have to pay,” she said.
Before the dark cloud of economic crisis descended on the sex trade in Lagos, sex workers in the city charged between N10,000 and N20,000 for an overnight service depending on a customer’s bargaining power.
Tania readily agreed to N5,000 but she added the caveat that our correspondent must buy her a plate of food on the way home.
Despite efforts by Tania to mask the desperation showing in her voice, it was clear the young lady did not want to get through the night with an empty pocket in a season when customers are not forthcoming.
Our correspondents learnt that in the days of plenty customers, Lagos sex workers hardly showed patience with any customer, whom they suspected did not have any interest in obtaining their service.
Commercial sex workers are aware that many young men simply derive satisfaction from engaging them, discussing prices, telling them to show enticing body parts, only to walk away from the bargain. These are fools prostitutes do not suffer gladly.
But that night, Tania was unusually patient, another evidence of the desperation in the trade.
When our correspondent later discharged her with an excuse that instantly brought an expression of disappointment on her face, she turned back a moment later as she made to walk away.
One might have concluded that she wanted to say something to make her bargain more enticing.
But she simply brought out her phone.
“Can you give me your number? I will give you mine too,” Tania said.
The inquiring eyebrow she saw made her explain further.
“If you know anyone who needs a cleaner or housemaid, please let me know. I am good at such jobs. I am only doing this to survive,” she said.
It was a frank explanation, one that laid bare the underlying financial struggle that sometimes pushes many of the young women into the sex trade.
At Allen Roundabout, one of our correspondents was relaxed with a bottle of drink at Pekas, a popular bar known to host many ladies of the night.
It was instantly noticed that the spot, which used to be thronged by numerous sex traders, was no longer what it used to be in terms of human traffic.
A light-skinned young lady, who seemed to be in her 20s, strolled by immediately and introduced herself as Ruth, desperate to strike up a conversation with the man sitting all alone.
In the middle of the conversation, she pointed out that it was quite impolite of the gentleman not to offer her a drink.
She then took it upon herself to call one of the waiters who evidently knew her and ordered a bottle of beer.
During the conversation, she could not help complaining about how unprofitable the trade had become as she tried to explain why so many of her colleagues who used to parade the streets were not available.
She simply could not hide the fact that she was desperate to spend the night with our correspondent.
“How much this job dey pay?” “You know the risk involved in this job?” switching to fluent English she continued, “Most of us on the streets are not happy to be here. If you are lucky, you meet a decent man and he takes you off the street. Girls are becoming fewer here because they are looking for greener pastures,” she said.
The lady, who later identified herself as Ruth, further shared a story of her colleague who had become a business owner courtesy of a man whom she serviced regularly.
“Sade is lucky,” Ruth said, as she made a sympathetic gesture to another young lady on the side of the road, who had just been rebuffed by a motorist passing by.
She said, “Like play, like play, Sade don leave us waka. I was there when a young man she called Richie first came to pick her. Later, he began visiting monthly. To cut the long story short, the bobo began to tell Sade he liked her because she is really beautiful.
“She told him that she would love to stop this job and he helped her out. As we speak, Sade is a shop owner somewhere in Ogba, Lagos, and she sells wine and other drinks.”
When Ruth noticed that the correspondent was not willing to play ball, she rounded off the conversation with a prayer.
“I pray that the Lord that took Sade out of the street would also favour me,” she said.
When asked how much would be needed to take her off the street, her eyes suddenly lit up and she said, “Bros, If I see (Click on the link below to read more)

CrimePatience Jonathan Sues SERAP, Says $15m Is Gift by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 3:53pm On Oct 21, 2016
Wife of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, has urged a Federal High Court in Lagos to restrain a human rights organisation, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, from coercing the Attorney General of the Federation to prosecute her over “unfounded and malicious allegations that she stole $15m.”
Patience claimed that the $15m over which SERAP allegedly asked the AGF to prosecute her was a gift she received over the last 15 years from friends and well-wishers.
The Executive Director of SERAP, Adetokunbo Mumuni, said in a statement on Thursday that the organisation had been served with court papers in Patience’s suit marked, FHC/L/CS/1349/2016.
According to Mumuni, the suit was filed by members of the Union of Niger Delta Youth Organisation for Equity, Justice and Good Governance on behalf of themselves and Patience.
The plaintiffs sought a court order of interim injunction restraining SERAP from using any judicial process to coerce the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to prosecute Patience for “owning legitimate private property.”
The plaintiffs also urged the court to restrain SERAP from “taking any further steps in further vilification, condemnation and conviction of the former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, in all public media.”
In the affidavit filed in support of the suit, the plaintiffs accused SERAP of engaging in a campaign of calumny against Patience.
The plaintiffs averred, “There has been a running battle between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Mrs. Jonathan with respect to the release of her legitimately earned funds, which were deposited in accounts opened in the names of certain companies by one of her husband’s aides without her authorisation.
“The funds in question were legitimate gifts from her friends and well-wishers over the last 15 years which she had been saving in order to utilise to upgrade family businesses and concerns which had been somewhat dormant by reasons of the long period of her husband service as a public officer in Nigeria.
“The gifts were given in small contributions by several persons, some of whom she cannot even now recall over this period of 15 years sometimes in as small a gift as N250,000.
“In order to preserve the value of these funds, which she did not require for any purpose at the time, she changed them into foreign exchange and kept them as cash for a long period in her home safe in Port Harcourt and Abuja.
“It was when the family home in Otuoke was burnt down by hoodlums under the instigation of political adversaries in 2010 that she began to think about banking these gifts, which had now grown to large sums in the United States dollars.
“In 2010 she therefore summoned one of her husband’s domestic aids, Waripamo-Owei Emmanuel Dudafa, to (Click on the link below to read more)

CelebritiesI Can Act Nude – Frank Artus by JoelNkantaBlog(op): 7:05pm On Oct 20, 2016
With the kind of roles he plays in movies, not many will believe that the talented and handsome Frank Artus is quiet and introversive. But that’s the truth. Born to an Egyptian father and Liberian mother, Artus achieved stardom through Nigerian movies. And now, Lagos is like a home to him. In this interview, the light- skinned actor reveals how female fans often pester entertainers for sex as well as his plan of producing movies alongside his daughter.
Who is the real Frank Artus?
Frank Artus is a quiet and intelligent person by nature. He is more like an introvert; I’m not a sociable kind of person. I always stay indoor. I go out once in a while. Somebody met me one day and said: ‘Please, Frank, take me to this club’. Then I said: ‘I don’t know’. He was like ‘you live in Ghana and you don’t know?’
What movie are you currently working on?
I just finished shooting five movies, and I’m starting my own production. For the first time, I’m doing a production with my own daughter. That’s going to be coming out very soon.
We are surprised to hear that you have a daughter. Did you have a secret marriage?
I don’t like to discuss my relationship in the public. I’m cool with that but I do have a daughter.
How do you feel bringing your daughter into entertainment?
I encourage my children to do whatever they desire, provided I’m going to guide them. I tell my children the positive and negative sides of everything. And I will guide them through it.
How do you feel being a father?
I feel awesome. Responsibility is huge (laughs), sometimes it is choking but at the end of the day, you will get to enjoy it, most especially when you see that your children are doing extremely well in school.
Does your daughter miss you if you are shooting in a faraway location?
As I’m talking to you, they are missing me and they really want to talk to me right now.
What do you like about the character you are playing in the movie you are shooting right now?
The movie has to do with domestic vio- lence. The reason I like the character is be- cause it’s not just the normal character that I play in a movie. It is completely different and that is why I added a lot of weight, I needed to look kind of chubby or fat.
What is your greatest achievement in Nollywood?
My greatest achievement is having many fans. When I go to places, people tend to recognise me. I think that is one of the greatest things I have achieved. Before coming to Nollywood, I would go to places and people would not recognise me. But now they recognise me any where I go.
What is the craziest thing a fan has done to you?
Two of my fans in America tattooed my name on the back of their hands. I actually thought it was a fake tattoo, but later I realised it was real. And guess what, it’s not just a small tattoo; it is huge.
What is the craziest thing a female fan has done to you?

Multiple-award winning screen goddess cum singer and songwriter, Tonto Dikeh-Churchill needs no introduction. Blessed with beautiful skin and great talent, her hard work and dedication has fetched her international endorsements and accolades. In this exclusive interview with Entertainer, the mother of one disclosed why she hasn’t starred in any movie since her marriage. She also opens up on her plans and why she is sticking to exclusive breastfeeding.

You are one of the most celebrated stars coming out of Nollywood. What do you cherish most as a career woman?
Acting is a profession that gives me joy and I am so passionate about my career. Of course, I am delighted that my hard work and dedication gave birth to the brand, Tonto Dikeh Entertainment Foundation. However, the aspect of my job that gives me fulfilment is the immense support from my fans. I am grateful to everyone for believing in me. Indeed, you are the reason I push harder and want to be a better person. God bless you all.
You have not featured in any movie since you got married. Why?
I have not worked in any production after marriage because I have been busy in my primary duties as a wife and mother. I need adequate time to build a solid foundation for my family and for a sustainable home. And I hope to be back in no distant time.
As a married woman, would you accept any role that comes your way now?
As a married woman a lot of things change in your life. Of course, you must have some sense of responsibility in decision making, because it is not just about your life anymore, you have a family to take care of. So, for the respect I have for my head, who is my husband and my neck, who is my son, I can’t play certain roles anymore. And I don’t have any regrets because my family comes first in all I do.
How are you enjoying motherhood?
Surprisingly, I have embraced the role of motherhood with ease, grace and love. Motherhood is a learning process which I am developing each day. By the special grace of God, I must say I am a fantastic mother to my son.
What do you enjoy most being a mother and wife?
(Smiles) I am enjoying every bit of the experience. It has been a wonderful journey. To the glory of God I am thankful for the love I receive and also give. It is priceless. In fact, I am in love with my husband and son.
Could you share your labour room experience with us?
Oh! My labour room experience was beautiful. It was a wonderful experience and may God be praised for all His mercies and love.
You have a glowing skin, do you visit the spa?
Thank you dear. Yes. Regardless of my busy schedule, I do spend time pampering myself. I call it my ‘me time’ where it is all about pampering my skin.
Some of your fans say you have gained weight due to childbirth, are you considering losing it because of the kind of roles you play?
Definitely, it is expected that I add a few pounds because I just gave birth. So, it is imperative to work on losing some weight for myself and the big screen.
Some young mothers don’t like breastfeeding their babies exclusively because of the fear of losing that girlish look, what method would you prefer?
I strongly stand for breastfeeding. I always tell people I would love to breastfeed for a year because I know the benefits of breastfeeding. So, why should I deny my children their right? Although, some of our mothers may love to breastfeed their babies exclusively, due to health challenges, they find it difficult. However, all mothers are great!
What would be your advice to young mothers on breastfeeding?
Mothers and intending mothers should find time to read articles on breastfeeding. It is important to educate ourselves on care for our children so that they can live healthy lives.
What attracted you to your husband?
If you know my husband, it would be hard to pick out what you like most about him because he is such a sweetheart. But I appreciate his efforts in making me a better woman. He has given me so much security as a husband. Honestly, I haven’t had anyone stand by me or want to protect me the way he does. I must appreciate him for all his love. I love him dearly. That’s why I call him my ‘King Kong’.
There is a belief that marriage is a prison. How would you describe yours?

It was learnt that although the heir apparent would not be crowned in public, he would receive the staff of office from the state Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, as the 39th oba, at a grand ceremony to be graced by guests, led by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Also expected at the ceremony are state governors, the leadership of the National Assembly and other lawmakers, traditional rulers and members of the diplomatic community.
Our correspondent, who went round major areas in the state capital, observed heavy presence of policemen at Ovoranmwwen Square, Airport Road, Urho-Okpota and around the Oba’s palace on Plymouth Road.
The Commissioner of Police, Haliru Gwandu, had on Tuesday said that 5,000 personnel would be deployed to provide security for the historic event.
