Gbawe: Yeah. Just like the loser Trevor Berbick on the floor, out cold, has just "dismembered" the winner standing over him i.e Mike Tyson. If Berbick get up to be ranting after Tyson is already at his winner after-Party enjoying himself, then who cares about the rants of the loser? The logic of some of you sef. Aribisala can cry himself to sleep every night and wake the next morning to pen another of the bitter tirade he is now famous for but the point losers will never understand is that no one on the winning side gives a toss about Aribisala's rants. Before the elections we may have bothered to read and counter this article yet today, after Buhari is now President-elect and not GEJ, Aribisala's tirade is nothing but the "Rantings of an ant" to us. Titilayodeji13: Make no mistake about it; the APC will not be allowed to go scot-free from all the lies it told and mischief it caused in its suicide-bomber approach to the election campaign. Buhari’s supporters need to understand that the democratic process neither begins nor ends with elections. It is a continuing process, not amenable to winner-take-all constructs.
What we have been confronted with in this election cycle is a political party determined to say and do anything, in order to capture the presidency. Accordingly, El-Rufai promised that: “The (2015) election is likely to be violent and many people are likely going to die.” Rotimi Amaechi said: “We shall teach them lesson. We will fight with our body, with our lives because there must be change this time.”In effect, in a single-minded lust for power, APC declared imminent war on Nigeria and served notice that it was prepared to set the country on fire and even form a parallel government if it did not prevail. Chai this man is brutal |

psalmizt: Dear Barcanista,
I love this thread and as one who believes in the unity of Nigeria there's need for the regions to be evenly matched. Your quote on being strategic and avoiding violence is so so apt. The SS and SE are a united block that must look to draw closer. The biggest worries of the SSner is the dominance of the SEners. Unless people find a way to take that threat away the dream unification will not work. In the face if the current realities, the unity becomes expedient. And i for one believes the region has all it takes to thrive without the usual FG intervention. From Edo to Delta, through the Igbo states up to Calabar, one voice Would better position them in the Nigerian state. If the SS/SE refuse to have sense it will be a pity. If they allow petty disagreements over who is boss override the bigger picture they will be left behind. It all became clear to me when I saw this last year. "You’d recall that I moved the motion of merger between the CPC and ACN because we’ve always believed that all these smaller parties will never be able to win a presidential election in Nigeria…never! Except there would be a handshake between the Southwest and Northwest" - Tunde Bakare |

omonnakoda: It was not a myth. The fact that Willinks said Eastern Nigeria was 98% Ibo speaks volumes. If PH was an Ibo town as he reported why then is there talk of abandoned property. That is a bit contradictory isn't it. It was the same phenomenon in the West that led to the formation of the MidWest Region whih was done fo political reasons in terms of timing. It was necessary to carve out Cross River/Akwa Ibom. Even there Willinks said Ibo were majority in Ogoja and it would appear he reinforced the idea of Aro as Ibo even though we know that the Ezes in Aro are no Ibo(discussion for another day) Na true or na lie? - 12. “That there should be modern streetlight in Onitsha, and not Calabar, was also quoted as example of discrimination; it proved however that Onitsha Urban District Council had financed this measure from their own resources.” |

NONE OF THAT NEEDS SUPPORT FROM THE WILLINKS. Once again I posted that for a reson whih eludes you. I consider Willinks to be largely inaccurate a discredited but it is important for contemporaneous context. e.g
WILLINKS SAID EASTERN NIGERIA was 98% Ibo either he was dishonest or misled Point taken. It was necessary to dispel the myth of "igbo domination" being the catalyst for creation of the COR state. It was more of a politically correct artificial vehicle for divide and rule than anything else. Of course it naturally served the agenda of a few elite from there and left the common man in limbo |

omonnakoda: Actually this is not the report but a summary of it a rather uneven one if I might add. I do not express an opinion about the report which generated considerable controversy in its time but post that here just to provide CONTEXT. They are "EXCERPTS" and this is the source http://scannewsnigeria.com/news/willink-report-1958-the-following-are-excerpts-from-a-the-report-of-the-commission-appointed-to-enquire-into-the-fears-of-minorities-and-the-means-of-allaying-them-otherwise-known-a/
It is not true to say it found their fears to be unfounded . That is just wrong. It is important to point out that the report covered the whole of Nigeria not just the East. For reasons best known to the soource they focused on the East . I will reserve comment on that. The objective inquirer will do well to study the actual report and the controversies surrounding it and how representatives of the minorities e.g Ikwerre were chosen or their characterization as "IBO" and the contemporaneous reactions to the report itself . It would be dishonest to hail colonial reports that say what we like but then turn around to reject colonial censuses. You posted a summary of the report to back up your point and I pointed out the report's vindication of alleged igbo domination and I'm cool with it unless you're saying the report u posted is flawed |

omonnakoda: “THE WILLINK COMMISSION REPORT OF JULY 1958” The report of the commission generally ackowledges political leaders agitating (most likely for relevance) but found those fears those allegations of domination were unfounded and false. From the report - 7. “It was suggested (by non-Ibo petitioners) that it was the deliberate object of the Ibo majority in the Region to fill every post with Ibos (in public post and services).….when, however we came to consider specific complaints about the composition of public bodies, we found them in many cases exaggerated or unreasonable.” 12. “That there should be modern streetlight in Onitsha, and not Calabar, was also quoted as example of discrimination; it proved however that Onitsha Urban District Council had financed this measure from their own resources.” 14. “A group of miscellaneous grievances and charges against the Ibos from Calabar may be treated together; we were told that the Ibos did not observe local customs in the markets….We formed the impression that jealousy of the Ibos successes in the markets was the main factor.” |

For crying out loud the PTF did not impact even the SS that was the source of crude, rather Abacha regime finally destroyed the refineries and enriched importers of refined petrol who were mainly from where?

Newly elected Senator Ben Murray-Bruce in his campaign promised to push for oil producing communities to retain half of the revenue from crude oil sales with the other half going to the center.
We need to apply pressure on our law makers in the east to tow this line regarding crude oil extracted from oil bearing communities in Rivers, Imo, Anambra, Abia and Bayelsa states. |
