The 3rd marine commandos would have been nothing without the heroics of Etuk and Alabi-Isama. Adekunle was in his ganja farm while those men were fighting for their lives. “Crack Biafran troops of the 60th, 52nd, and 63rd Brigades, along with the 68th Commando Battalion detachment of the "S" Division, all under the 14 Infantry Division, led by Colonel Ogbugo Kalu carried out the Owerri pincer operation – which proved to be a huge boost to Biafran morale. However, remnants of the badly mauled 16 Brigade of 3MCDO later miraculously slipped out of encirclement under the brilliant command and leadership in crisis of Col. Etuk – widely regarded by former Biafran commanders as the best Nigerian field commander of the war. It was at Owerri that Major Ted Hamman, Etuk’s second-in-command, lost his life. http://segun.bizland.com/omoigui24.htm |

Erm, what was Etuk's rank in the Army? 3000 is a brigade and he has to be either a Brigadier General, or maybe a Colonel to be able to lead 3000 men. I hope you know that, don't you?
And don't come back with more propaganda. You are a very empty boy what rank was Gowon when he became Head of State or Adekunle when he headed the 3rd Marine Commandos?. Politics › Reps Suggest Scrapping Of FG Scholarship Because It Doesn't Favour North by joeyfire(op): 3:08pm On Apr 27, 2015 |
The House of Representatives Committee on Education has recommended for the Federal Government to stop the 2015/2016 Presidential Special Scholarships for Innovation and Development, saying the scheme was too skewed to favouring one section of the country. Chaired by Kano State lawmaker, Aminu Sulaiman, the committee made the recommendation to the Chairman of the Implementation Committee, Prof. Julius Okojie, in Abuja on Thursday. Channelling the committee's argument during a heated debate on Thursday, Suleiman claimed that northerners were sidelined in the awards, saying it only leads to education imbalance and monumental abuse. The committee observed that out of the 104 short-listed for the scholarships this year, none came from the North-West and North-East. It also held that the North-Central received only seven slots, while the Federal Capital Territory also did not get any. However, in his reply, Okogie said that no considerations other than “merit”, qualified the beneficiaries for the awards. He explained that the award was meant for First Class graduates, who were under 30 years of age, for further studies in any of the top 100 universities in the world. “Unless we are saying that the criteria have to change, I will not advise that the programme should be scrapped," Okogie said. He later assured Sulaiman's comittee that he would pass their position to President Goodluck Jonathan. http://www.huhuonline.com/index.php/more-news1/5437-scrap-presidential-scholarships-reps-tell-fg |

SirShymexx: Lol.
Ms. Jada Fire, by end of 1968, Nigeria had already overrun about 80% of Biafra land, with only a small enclave left. And the death on both sides combined, based on British estimates was between 70,000-100,000. So, how did Biafra kill half-a-million soldiers, while running for their lives, in the last one year of the war? Also, how did they lose a whooping 3 million people within the same period?
Additionally, if you check the munitions supplied/bought during the war by Nigeria, they were mostly small arms. And they never attacked civilians, apart from those who were collateral damage and victims of aerial bombings. So, what damage would that have done?
That war was the biggest propaganda war in history, I tell ya.
Even during the same period, the US was engaged in a war with Vietnam, and despite the US dropping millions of bombs on Vietnam and the use of all kinds of weapons - they never killed up-to 2 million Vietnamese. Gimme a break! Smallie I feel ur pain and disappointment. Truth is bitter. Your sources are welcome though. If Biafra was defeated by 1968 how come by October 1969 the FG forces in Owerri were massacred with about 300 men survivng out of 3000 under Etuk who had held the city? Etuk was a hero though even though he fought for Nigeria he was a noble warrior |

SirShymexx: Lmao!
500,000 soldiers indeed, yet most of the junior officers who fought during the war came back home alive, in one piece.
Let me test how smart/intelligent you're:
Erm, do you know any junior officer in the Nigerian army that was killed during the war? There were only about 10,000 folks in the Nigerian army back then, with Igbos making-up about a third of that number. The number of officers should be less than 200, including Igbos.
If they were to lose a number as high as half a million - you'd agree with me that a lot of those officers would have been killed cos junior officers fight within the ranks with infantry. So, how come the overwhelming majority, if not all of them, returned unharmed in one piece, despite the overly exaggerated half-a-million casualties?
Biafra also didn't lose anything close to 3 million. The population of Igbos back then was just slightly over 8 million. Are you saying Igbo lost over a third of its population in that war? U are so empty. Console yourself with your juvenile theories. U know more than the chairman of the war veterans I agree with you |

SirShymexx: Lmao. I'll ignore ya ad hominems, Ms Jada Fire.
Just so you know: I believe Nigeria is a zoo with primates, and not a country. Hence the country is stuck in abyss, with no future, unless everything is restructured - or folks are allowed to pursue their own different destinies. And I support Biafra. But as a black man, I don't support suicide among black folks.
The Biafran adventure was a suicide mission. And it seems you lot haven't learnt from it, and the only way you console yourselves is by chest-beating and making unnecessary noise everywhere, with jejune tales, faux-bravery, and fables. I doubt that war would have lasted 6 months, if they had taken it seriously - the whole plan was to suffocate Biafra, till they surrender. And the plan changed towards the end.
Anyway, that war was one of the biggest propaganda wars ever. Nothing interesting about it, apart from exaggerated numbers from both sides. And noise making everywhere. All in all, an unnecessary war between a young country and a power-drunk suicidal warlord who ended up eloping like a coward.

I put it to you that: I doubt Nigeria lost upto 10,000 soldiers throughout the duration of that war combined. Ditto Biafra and the fictitious 3 million people story. That was a propaganda war. A lot of folks died, but the numbers were exaggerated.
In case you don't/didn't know, apart from Biafra - the rest of the country was peaceful and folks were going about their normal business, as if the country wasn't fighting a war. Apart from aerial bombings by Biafra's European mercenaries, from time to time, in Lagos, Ibadan, and I think Kaduna as well. Smallie I don't do wiki I leave it for internet kiddies like u. MadCow1: Yeah, you are right. I heard that there were a couple of flash conflicts here and there at the early stages of the war. The Onitsha one was definitely one of them. Then the Abagana Ambush which followed as a result of the failure to take Onitsha the first time. But it may interest you to also know that it was after those attack that Gen Murtala was relieved of his command and on the next onslaught, Onitsha fell in under 24 hours.. Then came the formation of the 3 Marine Commando unit and all and that began the end of the war.. From there on, Biafra was taken apart.. 10,000 FG troops massacred in four days with wave after wave being poured at the Biafrans is not flash conflict "here and there". it was a bitter battle that Murtala the butcher of asaba lost like the puzzy he was. He had to attack Onitsha from idah, kogi state to get anywhere. You are reading your history upside down if u describe the war as piece of cake for the FG it was bloody and costly. For instance Owerri which the FG captured was retaken in a bloody battle by the Biafrans and held for almost a year when the war ended. For your info the 3rd marine commandos had limited spread in the conflict. |

teeowl: Results is all that matters... anybody group that tries Seceding again, the Nigeria Army would crush that group...
On November 19, 1967 mercenaries from the Soviet Union and United Arab Republic flying MiG-17s began bombing areas around Onitsha, devastating the civilian population. In December 1967 the Nigerian 2nd Division and 6th Battalion under Gen. Murtala Mohammed crossed the Niger River at Idah and stationed in Enugu.
On January 2, 1968 the Nigerians moved towards Onitsha in a two pronged attack launched from two axes. The 2nd Division rolled through Biafran held territory including numerous towns and cities. On January 19 Nigerian troops attacked and occupied Awka, giving the 2nd Division a direct route to Onitsha. The Biafran 11th Division under Maj. Joseph Achuzie fought fiercely against the Nigerians and managed to hold them off for over 3 months before Abagana was captured on March 20 followed by Onitsha less than 24 hours later.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Invasion_of_Onitsha We all know the end story. 10,000 FG troops massacred in four days tryng to capture onitsha. Estimated 500,000 FG troops in 3 years trying to defeat biafra. Congrats Nigeria |

They bled the Nigerian Army so much the biafra warlord bearded terrorist fled and sent his man tails between legs to surrender in shame
What ever makes you sleep Eyaaa "On October 4, 1967 Gen. Mohammed ordered Nigerian artillery to begin bombarding Onitsha. Eight days later Gen. Mohammed personally leads a 10-boat armada carrying 5,000 Nigerian soldiers across the Niger River into Onitsha. The Biafran 18th Battalion resisted stubbornly but were forced to retreat in disarray. However, instead of pursuing the retreating Biafrans and occupying the town the Nigerians turned their attention to looting and burning the Onitsha market to the ground. This gave the 18th Battalion time to reorganize and make a counter-attack. The 11th Battalion under Maj. Achuzie made their way up the New Market road while the 18th Battalion under Col. Nsudoh swung down the Old Market road towards Onitsha. Nigerian 2nd Division soldiers stationed in Onitsha were totally routed and most were either killed or taken prisoner. Undaunted, Gen. Mohammed ordered a 5,000 man reserve from Lagos to cross the Niger River into Onitsha but they were once again defeated. Gen. Mohammed ordered troops under Lt. Col. Ipoola Alani Akinrinade to make a third assault on Onitsha but were once again thwarted by the Biafran 11th and 18th Battalions. It was now when Gen. Mohammed realized there was no hope in attacking Onitsha from Asaba and began heading north towards Idah" http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Invasion_of_Onitsha |
