At first, this isn’t going to sound like a good news story, never mind one of the most inspiring stories in the world today. But trust me: it is. Yan Li spent his life tweaking tiny bolts, on a production line, for the gadgets that make our lives zing and bling. He might have pushed a crucial component of the laptop I am writing this article on, or the mobile phone that will interrupt your reading of it. He was a typical 27-year-old worker at the gigantic Foxconn factory in Shenzen, Southern China, which manufactures i-Pads and Playstations and mobile-phone batteries.

Li was known to the company by his ID number: F3839667. He stood at a whirring line all day, every day, making the same tiny mechanical motion with his wrist, for 20p an hour. According to his family, sometimes his shifts lasted for 24 hours; sometimes they stretched to 35. If he had tried to form a free trade union to change these practices, he would have been imprisoned for 12 years. On the night of 27 May, after yet another marathon-shift, Li dropped dead.

Stephen Hawking urges humans to leave Earth to avoid disaster

Stephen Hawking is suggesting the survival of the human race will likely depend on changing neighbourhoods and moving to another planet.

The famed physicist says in the centuries ahead, it will be hard for Earthlings to avoid a disaster of biblical proportion on their home turf, and he recommends they avoid putting all their eggs in one basket – or planet.

Hawking writes on the website BigThink.com that he sees great dangers ahead for the human race, noting such close calls as the 1962 Cuban missile crisis.

Im glad this discussion was opened by Ayo84. Although i wont air my personal views on Aids, I will say this ; centuries-old and universaly accepted laws and science of microbiology had to be 'broken' to accomodate the hiv/aids theory. Any microbiologist in the house can read, copy and paste a copy of KOCH'S POSTULATES on this thread for further discussion.

Having examined both sides of the coin, it wouldnt be out of context to state that there seems to be growing scientific evidence that suggest that HIV doesnt cause AIDS. In case of Robert Koch postulates, his theory on the transmission of the disease wasnt applicable to the HIV virus(not that it was previously known as HTLV virus).

Below are 10 scientific evidence why HIV doesnt cause AIDS

1.HIV is neutralized by antibody immunity.

2 HIV does not kill the T cells it infects.

3 HIV does not infect enough T cells to cause AIDS.

4. HIV has no AIDS causing gene

5. There is no such thing as a "slow virus".

6.HIV is not a new virus, so it could not cause a new epidemic.

7. HIV fails Koch's postulates.

10 to 20% of AIDS patients have no HIV at all.
Only tiny amounts of HIV, usually dormant, can be found in any AIDS patient.

Huge amounts of cell tissue are needed to find HIV.
HIV needs a chemically induced process to reactivate.
By contrast, large amounts of active virus can be found with other viruses.

Washington (CNN) — The September 11, 2001, attacks have led to an intelligence community so large and unwieldy that it’s unmanageable and inefficient — and no one knows how much it costs, according to a two-year investigation by the Washington Post.

China Passes U.S. as World’s Biggest Energy Consumer

China, powered by years of rapid economic growth, is now the world’s biggest energy consumer, knocking the U.S. off a perch it held for more than a century, according to new data from the International Energy Agency.

The Paris-based agency, whose forecasts are generally regarded as bellwether indicators for the energy industry, said China devoured 2,252 million tons of oil equivalent last year, or about 4% more than the U.S., which burned through 2,170 million tons of oil equivalent. The oil-equivalent metric represents all forms of energy consumed, including crude oil, nuclear, coal, natural gas and renewable sources such as hydropower.

The figures reflect, in part, how the global recession hit the U.S. more severely than China and hurt American industrial activity and energy use. Still, China’s total energy consumption has clocked annual double-digit growth rates for many years, driven by the country’s big industrial base. An Iranian scientist who says he was abducted and taken to the United States by the CIA returned to Tehran yesterday to a hero’s welcome and claimed that he had been pressured into lying about his country’s nuclear programme.

Shahram Amiri said that he was on the hajj pilgrimage when he was seized at gunpoint in the city of Medina, drugged and taken to the US, where he says Israel was involved in his interrogation. In the US, officials were reported to have admitted that Mr Amiri was paid more than $5m (£3.2m) by the CIA for information about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

The US claims to have received useful information from him in return for the money, but is clearly embarrassed by his very public return to Iran. The offer of a large bribe is reportedly part of a special US programme to get Iranian nuclear scientists to defect.

It’s the worst of times. America is plunging back into Depression. Only one out of every two Americans of working age has a job. Forty years ago that would have been okay. Dad went to the factory. Mom stayed at home to mind the kids. These days, just to keep the show on the road, mom and pop both work and the kids go to daycare.

Start looking for work now and on average it will take till next April for you to find something. Across the last two months, more than a million Americans simply gave up seeking employment, even as benefits are running out. Ironically, if you quit looking for work you count as officially “discouraged”, and don’t figure in the official unemployment stats, which is the only reason that number hasn’t shot up to record highs.

Somewhere near 10 million Americans without work aren’t getting any kind of cheque. One in every five children is living below the poverty line, sometimes by as much as 50 per cent – classed as “extreme poverty”. Across America, in state after state the till is empty. Barack Obama’s home state of Illinois is effectively bankrupt. So is California. Forty-six of the 50 states are buried under huge deficits.

The dollar is an unreliable international currency and should be replaced by a more stable system, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs said in a report released Tuesday.

The use of the dollar for international trade came under increasing scrutiny when the U.S. economy fell into recession. “The dollar has proved not to be a stable store of value, which is a requisite for a stable reserve currency,” the report said.

Many countries, in Asia in particular, have been building up massive dollar reserves. As a result, those countries’ currencies have become undervalued, decreasing their ability to import goods from abroad.
