Politics / Re: Ajaokuta Steel To Supply 400,000 Metric Tonnes Of Iron Rods For Road Constructio by JohnBullMySon: 1:14pm On May 24 |
Mrexcell: It's a complicated story. But the summary of it is that the contractors could not complete it because of issues relating to supply. It was completed to as close as 96%. The kind of blast furnace they built would not work well and possibly get damaged if there's no constant supply of plenty ore. Eventually when the Russian contractors saw that the ore was not going to be ready, they had to suspend the project pending completion of the railways and the ore was ready. Not just that, there would have to be no break within the system for the furnace to safely turn on. Probably the contract ran out and they stopped maintaining the existing system, packed up and left. The cost of maintaining the facility will be high and for a facility not producing anything yet, it was left without proper maintenance. Eventually the plant started to fall apart and the Russian company had already folded up. Ore was not yet enough and the railway was incomplete. In fact, till today, a railway bridge over the River Niger is still lying there, abandoned. Personally I feel the Government of then were too ambitious with the project and could have built a much smaller project where the ore could easily be sent by road and production level would already match what is needed. The scale of the project was just too big to be successful in an epileptic country like Nigeria. 2 Likes |

CodeTemplar:The steel rolling part of the plant has always been functional. What is abandoned is the Blast Furnace complex that converts ore to iron. The blast furnace was never turned on even for one minute. They import the steel they roll. 51 Likes 4 Shares |

Politics / Re: Mikaela Loach Confronts Shell CEO, Sawan, Over Alleged Crimes In Nigeria (Video) by JohnBullMySon: 12:36pm On May 23 |
deeway200:she's not stupid but she's really ignorant. I worked within the Niger Delta O&G sector for a while. The problem with these Western liberals is always their one-sided sympathetic understanding of things. While Shell isn't entirely innocent, she sounds completely oblivious to the problem of vandalism, sabotage and artisanal mining which is the main cause of pollution in the Niger Delta. That's why shell wants to leave Nigeria. How many times have you heard of spillages in Angola? Total and Chevron have been there for years. Secondly what she's calling shadow companies are actually consortiums set up by Nigerian businessmen to buy up Shell's onshore assets. Such as Renaissance and co. The best is for FG to ban onshore activities because the kind of spillages that will happen when Nigerian corporations take over will be magnitudes worse. Nigerian corporations don't give a f.uck about human rights. 1 Like |
Properties / Re: Ten Tallest Buildings In Nigeria by JohnBullMySon: 9:07am On May 21 |
uuzba: Tall buildings are more efficent than an equivalent sqm space of buildings spread out over an area. Saves fuel, saves utility expenses, helps thousands of businesses stay together in a general area. If you did economics in school you will understand how important agglomeration is in a large scale economy. There's a reason major towns and cities naturally develop an overcrowded business area. |
Foreign Affairs / Re: UK Parliament Approves Rwanda Deportation Bill by JohnBullMySon: 9:07am On Apr 23 |
God1000:You guys don't understand the agreement. According to the agreement. They won't live in Rwanda. Instead of the UK having to process their asylum claims. It will be processed in Rwanda. If successful, they will return to UK. If not Rwandan government will then decide whether to keep them or deport them. In summary, they're outsourcing asylum considerations to Rwanda who will be paid for it. |
Politics / Re: Nigeria, not yet ripe For State Police - IGP Egbetokun by JohnBullMySon: 3:05pm On Apr 22 |
nairalanda1: Good points. But I'll argue that the Federal must thin down at all levels. There is a lot of redundancy in Abuja. The legislators need to grow some balls and clamp down that bloody deep state and give more to the state governments. Nigerians tend to be more patriotic to their states than to the country. If we do the right thing, this will translate to better efficiency at state levels, and we won't need many of those high maintenance federal agencies anymore. 2 Likes 1 Share |

You have to give it to Randy for resisting the temptation to take the game out. SA initally sat back but he didn't take the bait. You should not be desperate to score when you don't need to. I hope Thembi can now see that it isn't about the pitch 11 Likes 1 Share |

Deltamani: He's trying to stall the game. Our main objective should be to make sure SA does not get an early goal. We're iced if that happens. At best they don't score, but if they do, the ideal situation is that it happens close to the end, so that we can bring in fresh strikers that will take the game back to them. |

carbonado: That will be a breach of CAF/FIFA safety requirements for host member associations. If such a thing happens, whether deliberate or not, SA will likely be forfeiting the match and staring at a very long FIFA ban. 2 Likes |

yinkeys: Most likely, I don't know if it's the same situation they're talking of, but Nnadozie did something that would have gotten her a yellow or even sent off. In one incident she missed the ball and hit Seoponsenwe, sending her crashing down. The referee did not see it. |

naptu2: I think they're being unrealistic with their expectations that's why they're still at the level they are. For instance, a media company comes to negotiate for rights, but cannot guarantee what NFF is demanding. |

CornOak: You think it's easy to win a World Cup knockout game? Once you enter the knocking stages, things get very tough. They've lived up to their hype, going into the semis as things stand, unless you're looking for unrealistic statistics that only happen in group stage games. This is world cup bruh. France men most likely wouldn't beat Nigeria more than a goal or two in a World Cup game. Knockout matches are generally very tough even if you're the better team. 3 Likes |
