Why do you think so? |
Please ignore BlueNwhite. He is a Nigeria hater from the war-torn Somalia that has not had a central government for years! https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-648910.0.html#msg8151528 https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-648916.0.html#msg8151606 Watch out, he might resurrect under another name.

I hope those two women alleged to be involved in multiple thumb printing have been brought in for questioning as well. We need some scapegoats! |

allanohize:Word! That's the spirit we need now. |
Are you actually canvassing a military take over? |
I don't mean to make jest of anyone. I am just concerned that the threads for the presidential elections are not as co-ordinated as those of last week. We have a proliferation of threads making it difficult to keep up with posts. I am sorry if I came across as jesting. |
Let us not forget to get to the root of this vidoe thing in the hulabaloo about the presidential elections. |
Where is becomerich? Where is Jarus? Whare is Aisha2? |
Freegaza (what a namea), that is an interesting result. Shows that those people are voting for the individuals not parties. Just like Lagos. |
Abeg left matter. We would need a criminologist to analyse the man's action. |
If GEJ wins without a run-off, it will further underscore the importance of having parties with a national outlook. Hopefully, that should strenghten our democracy. |
I agree it is a BIG test but I pray we pass it. |
Not surprising. Large population of northerners in Apapa. |
Beaf, don't be surprised if the results show a north-south divide at the end of the day. |
Most likely LOL |
Like the sanction recently imposed on Czech republic whose president "stole" a pen in Chile? |
And Bakare said, if Buhari does not win, we might see "wild, wild north" Is the man a prophet or what? P.S. This is one prophecy I don't want to come to pass! |
I think you guys should keep an eye on the results from the north to get a balanced view of events: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=648167.10;wap2 |
Seems my fear is coming to reality: North voting overwhelmingly in one direction and south in the other. Seems the only exception might be the south west. I would not like that north-south divide. There is something wrong with that. Makes the whole process less credible to me and has deep meanings. The foreign press who have always talked about the north-south/religious divide will use this to justify their position or maybe this actually justifies that point of view afterall. Let's wait and see. |
Keep it coming nusdog! Good job! |
You mean Dele Momodu was the only one to vote for himself there? No wife, no family memebers? One man, One Vote! :-) |
Watch out for results from some parts of Idi araba and Apapa as well. CPC likely to get substatial votes there as well. |
There is a large population of northerners in some parts of Agege. If the result is from one of such places, the result should not be surprising. |
I get the feeling that the government had been working on this hoping that he could be arrainged before the elections. Else why arraign him on a Saturday. Good job anyway! Ibori no dey laff o! |
Good point by Uwazurike. Our govt officials make too much noise about what they are doing instead of getting down to the job. Dora's noise at NAFDAC scared african countries from dealing with authentic Nigerian pharamaceutical companies, Sanusi's "noise" caused our banking industry to be "downgraded" globally. The noise about our educational system attracted all manners of foreign educational institutions to take away our students like hawks or vultures. We need less of these "noise" and more action especially where the noise is to score cheap political points so that the propoents can contest for higher office later. The new Brazillian president is said to be more interested in getting the job done rather than making "noise." |
The ballot papers will not be checked for multiple thumbprinting unless an aggrieved candidate makes a case for it. The current procedure assumes that all is well until a petition is submitted at the election tribunal. I think the first time that the ballot papers were verified in this manner was in the Ekiti or Osun state where fingerprint experts were brought in to testify at the tribunal. |
Good point Ozekhome! Legislators should be paid sitting allowance not salaries. We need to make these positions less attractive financially so that politicians don't see the whole thing as an investment. |
I agree with Ayo Ighodaro. The results at each polling unit should be published online. That will enable voters to authenticate the results at their polling units. I expect those people to be brought to book by the relevant security agents. I had hoped that they would be apprehended before tommorow's polls to send a strong signal to these enemies of progress. What I like about this whole incident is that it should enable us review the whole process of results collation and release. Ultimately this should improve the integrity of the process. |
‘Elections in remote areas in Lagos were rigged’ BY KINGSLEY ADENIYI April 15, 2011 02:00AM The Social Democratic Mega Party (SDMP), an opposition political party in Lagos State, has condemned the just concluded National Assembly election in Lagos. The party said that irregularities were prevalent in some riverine areas of the state. The state’s governorship candidate of the party, Jaiye Randle, said, on Thursday, that information from the reports obtained from their party agents in the last election, showed that there were multiple thumb printing in some areas. Mr Randle said the malpractices was the determination of the ruling party in the state, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to put pressure on some traditional rulers to use their offices to ensure large returns through multiple thumb printing in the polling units of their catchments area. “I have asked my agents to provide proofs of these allegations as this is the only way we will be able to strengthen our democracy,” he said. “ACN may still have won the election for the National Assembly. We, however, need to reduce the propensity to want to use the electoral process to inflate our political base support.” Reacting to the alleged low turnout of voters in last Saturday’s parliamentary polls, Mr Randle said: “This encourages us to come to conclusion that there are still several Lagosians, a majority for that matter, who are not particularly enamoured towards supporting the ACN or PDP, and are looking for an alternative platform able to manage their resources judiciously and also embark upon policies to alleviate poverty. That option is the SDMP.” The promises He also said that his party was ready reposition the state in line with the original mega city plan. “If the mobility and improvement in the welfare of citizens is the most basic criteria for assessing the effectiveness and relevance of government, the Action Congress of Nigeria administration has, despite spending approximately N2.236 trillion between 1999 and January 2011, failed,” he said. Mr Randle described the escalating rate of youth unemployment in the state in particular, and rest of Nigeria, as a time bomb, earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown all rolled into one with dire consequences for Lagos State and the nation. He, therefore, promised to tackle unemployment if voted in as governor of Lagos state. Others disagree Reacting, the state Chairman of All Nigeria National Peoples Party (ANPP), Abiodun Adetunji-Oyebolu, said the election to an extent was free and fair. “People should learn to accept defeat,” he said. “I did not record any irregularity. The election was better than the 2003 and 2007 elections. Politicians should learn to accept the outcome elections in Nigeria. It was free and fair.” The South-West chairman of Congress of Political Leaders, Austin Nnorom, also extolled the leadership of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a fair National Assembly election. “So far, we can say it is so good,” he said. “Presently, it has been adjudged to be free and election. We have not received any report that contradicts the fairness of the election.” http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/Metro/Politics/5690064-147/story.csp |
12:15 PM ET Lunch Break: Czech president steals pen? Has the Czech President ever got this much international attention before? Václav Klaus, the president of the Czech Republic, was caught apparently pilfering a pen during a large news conference in Chile with President Sebastian Pinera. The two leaders were celebrating the signing of a new transportation agreement. He picks up the pen encrusted with semi-precious Chilean lapiz lazuili stones and slips it into his pocket. To cover his tracks, he shuts the antique box before smiling for the camera. He certainly looks guilty. But Chilean spokesperson said the President's guests were free to take the pens. And Mr. Klaus said he frequently helps himself to such things. "It is what people do regularly," he said. "They keep notepads and pens from such events." According to the Prague Post, "It’s not the first time the Czech president has held such an expensive pen, either. At his swearing-in for his second presidential term in 2008, Klaus was presented with a 18-carat gold pen worth 1 million Kč (around $60,000), Radio Prague reported." Now the Associated Press reports, "More than 5,000 Czechs have signed up to a Facebook campaign to mail pens to the president." The clip of the president and the pen has been viewed more than 3 million times on Youtube. http://globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com/2011/04/14/lunch-break-czech-president-steals-pen/ |
