My medical insurance is from January to December, 2019. However, I wont be entering South Africa until next month due to visa delay and some personal issues.

What can I do to extend my cover from the period of my arrival (May, 2019 to April 2020) or it is not possible?

House, after I read this comment, I decided to check my status online.

Behold!!! What did I discover?

My passport has been ready for collection for the past one week and yet I did not receive any SMS or mail from VFS.

I applied since November 2018.

I would advice that we disregard the mail and start checking our status daily.

Finally, I collected my study visa today after waiting for 16 weeks.

Guys, my visa is out and it's positive. I submitted on January 2nd. Exactly 10 weeks today.

May God grant the desires of everyone still on the queue.

NB
I wasn't sent an SMS neither was I sent an email. I just got a call from a DHL guy who came to deliver it. Then I tried to track my application and the "under assessment" thing disappeared. Not like they even said my application has been forwarded to VFS.

When did you see this? And have the owners of those processed applications been notified?

I dont understand what useless, inhuman system these people operate there. I have applied for a withdrawal since thursday and these people have refused returning my passport. Is it by force? I have no interest in going to their country again and its still a problem for them. I went to vfs global today and they said maybe it was ommitted and they will include it when they get there. I have not received any email till now meaning these people have not found my passport and application till now. What do i do please. I have been in lagos since Wednesday, and i need to go back to my base and resume work. I am confused. I just need my passport returned. What sort of rubbish is this?

I also have the premonitions that these people misplaced some old applications. Or probably just abandoned them somewhere and are focused on the new applications.

How can I explain the fact that January applicants are getting their passport while October and November applicants are still expecting theirs.

When did you apply for the visa?

Hello house, I got a mail from vfs, saying my passport is ready.
I applied on the 9th of January 2019.
I paid for delivery. I pray it's positive.

You got the mail around what time? You mean they work till 9 PM?

I just got a mail from VFS global that my application has processed. I'll be going there tomorrow to pick it up. I pray for a positive outcome

I applied on the 7th of January, 2019. Study visa. VFS Lagos

I am still at a loss as to how study visa applications are been processed at the High Commission, Lagos Office.

Many January, 2019 study visa applicants are receiving their notifications while November applicants are still expecting theirs.
This is highly unprofessional of them and I just can't seem to wrap my brain around this.

I had to pay for my school hostel accommodation in order to Keep my slot and the money I paid is wasting away daily due to this unanticipated visa delay.

Is there any email I can use to reach the SA Embassy Lagos Office?

I applied on the 29th of November and I am yet to get any response from them.

I can see here that someone that applied in January, 2019 has received his visa from them. Also, a colleague that also applied in November has gotten his visa.

How can we explain this?

Please I need a contact address.

A friend applied for a study visa in the last month of November and got a response in the last month of January.
I also applied during the same week (same school and same programme), however, I am yet to get a response regarding my application.

Yes sir, my advise remains the same. I have to let you know, applications made in Nigeria and by Nigerians are treated differently and not always like what VFS website states. Its almost always assumed you are running away from Naija.

Furthermore,When you are on Doctoral Studies at SA universities, it's always considered that you are in the university's employment since you will have an office, teach(possibly) receive stipends and awards etc. That puts you in a good stead for your wife and kids application.

As far as i know(but you can research or ask around further) your wife will have to apply for Accompany Spouse Dependent Visa(This is simply the same as Relatives Visa).

If your kids are of schooling age and you want them to school whilst here in SA, then get admission letter (even if its from a creche/kindergaten school) and use that to obtain Study Visa for them. But if not, you can always just include in their mom's application and you can sort out their schoolin when they arrive.

If you have further questions pls ask

Thanks. I so much appreciate ur response.

Does this mean I can obtain a study visa for wife and kids later in SA, assuming they both entered SA with their respective accompanying visas?
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by Johny2015: 8:42am On Nov 19, 2018
Manager007:

@Johnny2015

As an applicant from Nigeria, best advise would be for you to finalize your initial PhD Study Visa application as a sole applicant. However, on the forms, you would note your wife and kids details on forms. I believe there's a section saying or asking "if they would be travelling with you" Just choose NO.

Once you have secured your Study Visa, travelled to SA and fully registered and enrolled at your educational institution, then send the following documenta to Nigeria for your wife and kids to apply:
1. Your passport and visa page(Certified copies)
2. Proof of enrolment at Educational institution
3 Your SA bank statements
4. Proof of accomodation- school residence(not the best in this case)

They will issue them a Visitor Visa most-likely for the duration of your program(But it wont exeed 3 yeara)

If you need further assistance, please ask

All the best

Sorry to bother you @Manager007

2 questions for you.

Would this position of yours remain so, even if my PhD programme is Sponsored by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Then secondly, When applying for them later as you advised, am I to select a Visitor or relatives visa for them on the application form?
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by Johny2015: 7:26pm On Nov 17, 2018
justwise:

Check this http://www.dha.gov.za/index.php/types-of-visas

The only visa type that suite my case (accompanying spouse and minor) from this list is the relatives visa.

Is that what I am to fill for the two of them?
am I on the right track?
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by Johny2015: 2:09pm On Nov 17, 2018
Hi House. This thread is great and I so much appreciate the effort we have all put into keeping this thread alive since 2012.

Having read over 70 pages of this thread, there is an issue I am still confused about.

I am about applying for a PhD study visa to South Africa. However, I wish to be accompanied by my wife and son (2 years). The challenge I am having is how to go about their own application.

There seems to be nothing like accompanying spouse or minor visa types on the visa application form DHA 1738. Is there a special form for this class of visa or how do I do this?

I know I have a place where I can list them on my own form. But I believe there should still be a seperate form for them to fill.

Believe me, I would appreciate any assistance from you all.
