It’s unclear if Manchester United would consider a loan move, but Juventus have shown interest in the Dutchman.

Nigeria’s manufacturing sector is under siege. The cruel combination of high energy costs, foreign exchange scarcity, rising inflation, insecurity, stratospheric interest rates, high logistics costs and a predatory regulatory environment that manufacturers have had to contend with in recent months is threatening their existence per sector representatives. Immediate steps must be taken to prevent the manufacturing sector from collapsing. The realities are grim. According to data from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, at least 767 manufacturers shut down operations and 335 became distressed in 2023. Unsold inventories amounted to N350 billion during the same period.Prominent pharmaceutical multinationals – GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Sanofi Nigeria Limited – exited the country in 2023, citing the forex crisis. On May 31, 2024, Kimberly-Clark, makers of Huggies, also announced its decision to stop local manufacturing and sale in Nigeria after 14 years of operation. PZ Cussons Plc is considering leaving Africa as a whole, partly due to its Nigeria woes that had resulted in a 48 percent drop in sales. This occurred against the backdrop of economic challenges that have worsened the investment climate.Manufacturers are particularly concerned about rising operational costs imposed by recent government policy actions. Director-General of MAN, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, last week threatened that the association’s 2,500 members would shut operations to protest the 250 percent hike in electricity tariff after manufacturers were forcefully placed on the controversial Band A regardless of whether they operate round-the-clock shifts or not. Most industries were already buckling under the weight of high diesel costs before the electricity tariff hike that has seen energy accounting for between 40 and 50 percent of costs.Manufacturers have also complained about their inability to access foreign exchange to import raw materials and machinery as well as ridiculous import tariffs calculated at parallel market rates by the Nigeria Customs Service. A slew of taxes and penalties imposed by all tiers of government contributes to manufacturers’ woes in an increasingly hostile regulatory environment.Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, Muda Yusuf, expressed concerns last week about “disturbing tendencies of overbearing regulatory dispositions, disproportionate sanctions, obstructionist actions, outrageous fines and penalties, intimidation and high-handedness”.Significant transportation and logistics challenges, poor infrastructure, and climate issues resulting in flooding in some parts of the country are also taking a toll. Insecurity in several states has also denied manufacturers access to certain markets. It amounts to self-immolation for Nigeria if the sector’s vulnerabilities are not addressed urgently.https://punchng.com/save-nigeria's manufacturers-from-collapse/ |

Exousiang01: At N100k it is still highly subsidized sir. like I said you are not talking from the angle of a manager or the angle of an administrator. you are looking at this from the lens of a parent. I have 4 sons and I will be getting set to spend not less than N1. 7m on school fees again come January. I will still need to change this and that. It won't cost less than another N500k just to get them ready for the new term. Let's not talk about the food they eat each day. The school bus is too expensive and I would have to pay per head for each person so I have a deal with the guy that drives my Uber, he takes them to school and brings them back, I in return have cut down his weekly delivery. Now extracurricular activities like swimming lessons, chess lessons, football and basket ball lessons, piano lessons have not been added to this list.... I spend this much just to give them a similar education they would get in a model school because I know model schools for hood quality education.
Now know how expensive quality education is don't you think that N100k is a very fair amount to pay for government to take you child off your hands, feed and accommodate and educate that child for 3 whole months??
Be rational sir, I think your take on this is birthed out of emotions and not logic 😂 I understand... However it's the same APC that causes all these now, now they put the burden of parents that do not make much in this economy. |

Exousiang01: At 100k it is already highly subsidized. Are you looking into the cost of running these schools at all? This is just feeding alone that I have been talking about, N100k cannot feed 1 child for a term. If those children are at home their parents would spend more than N100k on their feeding in a term. Should we talk about the cost of power? Paying distribution companies and buying diesel? that alone is another huge chunk of money. Running the school is still another issue. I am not talking about staff salary. You can't run any organization like that. you will run it to the ground.
You are looking at this from the angle of a parent you are not seeing it from the angle of administration So what are Lagosians benefitting from the Government? If they cannot even benefit in Education? 35k to 100k is still too much... At least 50K for now... Very soon it will go from 100k to 200k... No be government again? Moreover, they are all APC , both at federal and state. |

Exousiang01: This is a boarding house. no private school boarding house will pay N100k. N100k cannot feed 1child for 3months. what I am telling you is in as much as the school is not for profit making, the school should be able to cover its running cost. If you have been to any of these model schools and see the standard you would know that the government is doing alot already. The 100k can't even feed these children let alone maintain the facilities.... I know and understand. I have put a lot of pupils into these schools e.g Adelaja, Oriwu etc. However from 35K to 100k, thats too much.. very soon they will jump it straight up to 200k. If government can't subsidize for their citizens, what exactly are they doing then?? |

Exousiang01: A term is 3 months. Can N100k feed your child for 3 months. We haven't talked about managing the facilities, paying the teaching and management staff... Many of you talk from your assess. zero knowledge of basic economics.
The school fees should be subsided but if we are to go by this your calculations, then the school fees need to be increased above N100k If Government increases up to that amount, then why do we blame Private schools that do such? |
Education › Re: Lagos Assembly Intervenes In Model College Fee Hike As Parents Protest by Jokerman(m): 11:39pm On Oct 21, 2024 |
100k is too much.
Let's be factual.
1000 pupils in the school * 100,000 , that's is 100,000,000 Million per term...
Government should use their head |
