Nigeria’s business mogul, Tony Elumelu, was eulogized at the Business Council For International Understanding, BCIU, by the U.S Secretary of commerce, Penny Pritzker, for for his efforts in strengthening business relations between Africa and the United States.

The Secretary, who spoke at BICU, reception honoring Africa-U.S Business Leaders on the sidelines of the U.N General Assembly Meeting, said that Mr Elumelu is an exemplary entrepreneur.

Pritzker, also lauded the BCIU for their roles and successes in building business partnerships between the continent and the United States. Milling around him were hundreds of business leaders from the U.S and Africa, including members of the U.S Congress, senior Obama administration officials, BCIU members including CEO’s of KPMG, AAR, Accenture, VISA, BOEING, CONOCO PHILIPS, APR, UBA and many more.

Elumelu, was earlier honored with the ‘Person of the Year’ award at the Africa Investor CEO Institutional Investment Summit hosted alongside the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Chairman of Heirs Holdings who also coined the word ‘Africapitalism’ urged private and public sector stakeholders to work together in what he describes as “Shared Purpose”.

“It is critical for the public and private sectors to work together in “SHARED PURPOSE”, which is a key tenet of Africapitalism – the economic philosophy I espouse which calls for the private sector to play a key role in Africa’s social and economic development by investing in strategic sectors for both economic profit and social prosperity.”

Edo 2016: Philip Shaibu, APC Youths Sweep Ize-Iyamu, PDP Out-of-Edo North

The All Progressives Congress ( APC) deputy governorship candidate in Edo State, Rt. Hon.Philip Shaibu with hundred of youths took to the street along Auchi - Jattu road of Etsako West local in a road show tagged "sweep Ize-Iyamu, PDP out", to carry out a symbolic sweeping of the floor.

Philip Shaibu who led the sweepers said the exercise is to demonstrate to Ize - Iyamu and other PDP leaders that the people of Edo North are bent on ensuring total victory for the APC governoship Candidate Godwin Obaseki and his deputy in the September 28, election.

He said the youths came out in their numbers without being mobilized to sweep the road, adding that they came out to demonstrate that they cannot afford any reversals or slowdown in the pace of the achievements comrade Adams Oshiomhole has made in Edo state.

Another sweeper, the member representing etsako central local government in Edo state house assembly, Barr. Damian Lawani, described the symbolic sweeping of the roads as a clear indication that edo people cannot afford to go back to Egypt, the era of PDP in the state.

Four ritualists were allegedly arrested with fresh human hearts in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun state. The suspects Nurudeen Adeniyi, 34, Tunde Banjo, 29, Temitope Alaba 20, and Tobi Olukoya , 20, all confessed to commiting the crime. The suspects said their victim- a young lady, was brought from Ago Iwoye area. When the lady was resisting sexual advances from them, they hit her with a charm and she couldn't say anything again. Nurudeen Adeniyi, 34, suspect.

Nurudeen Adeniyi is my name, I am 34 years old. I am selling cement and rice and I am an Alfa.

I told him (Banjo) that I need human heart and he said he has a man that can get it for him.

I just take the delivery of this one (hearts) and I have collected two pieces two years ago.

I am not the person that used the one I collected two years ago, the person that used that one is dead now.

I want to use the parts for eyonu, ebe a won agba.

I regret my actions and I want Nigerians to forgive me.


Tunde Banjo, 29, herbalist, suspect.

This my brother asked me that he needs breast and 'TOTO' (female genitals) and one day I was playing in my house and I see this guy with his friend and I told them that one of my brothers need this thing and he said he could get it for me.

He called me one day that he has seen a lady. I was not there when they killed her o but she was killed in my (herbalist) office.


Temitope Alaba 20, suspect

"I was there when they killed the girl but I wasn't the one that killed her. I am an herbalist apprentice.

The girl was killed with a knife.

It was Tobi and 'Asa' (nickname) that killed the girl. They brought her from Ago Iwoye area.

When the lady was resisting sexual advances from them, they hit her with a charm and she couldn't say anything again.


Tobi Olukoya , 20, suspect

I was outside, I don't know how pepe and Tope killed her.

They told me they needed women breast and private part and if I could lure a girl to their place, they would give me 30 thousand naira.

But they only gave me 500 naira to go and eat after the operation.

I picked them from Ago garade.


Commissioner of Police Ahmed Iliyasu has confirmed the incident;

"You can see a recession of human being back to cannibalism and we would not allow that, that is why when out operatives got this information, we quickly swung into action and rounded them up.

We have interviewed them. That is bestial and we cannot allow that. We have carried out our constitutional duties by arresting them,” he said.

Definitely, the right procedure will be taken and they would be charged to court for prosecution.

Nobody will hide under any guise to perpetrate any criminal act in the state and go free, we will definitely get at him. We have our various tactical deployment, we have our covert operations and we are picking them up,” he said.

TROOPS ARRESTS ANOTHER MILITANTS KINGPIN IN CALABAR

Troops of 13 Brigade, 82 Division, Nigerian Army, have in a coordinated operation arrested a suspected high ranking militant kingpin Mr. Victory Benjamin (aka Abuja Daddy and G3) and 3 others. The kingpin was arrested at Saint Joseph Hospital, Ikot Ene junction, Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross Rivers State while attempting to collect ransom from one of their kidnap a victim’s relations.

In a related development, troops of the same formation have also arrested 3 militants with locally made pistol and some cartridges while robbing victims around Refugees Camp at Efut Isigi in Bakassi Local Government Area, Cross Rivers State.

Meanwhile, troops have cordoned off the residents of the most wanted militant kingpin, Alias G1 still at large, as already the arrested militants known as “G2” and “G3” are providing useful information that would assist the military to track other criminals in the region.

The Federal Government recently took a major step towards the resolution of the lingering retrenchment and other major labour issues in the banking and financial institutions with a crucial meeting with the sector’s organized labour unions (ASBIFFE & NUBUIFE) declaring that “ banks and their employees must be ready to operate within the provisions of the Nigerian laws.”

According to the statement released to the Press by the Ministry’s Public Relations Unit recently, the meeting was the first of the three-stage meetings with the sector’s stakeholders. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige (Sen), while declaring the meeting open said, “Our journey towards the resolution of the industrial disputes in the banking and financial sector begins in earnest. You may recall the series of petitions from the organized unions in banks and financial institutions, and individuals complaining of unfair labour practices which include illegal termination of appointments, forced resignations, unpaid exit emoluments and entitlements, non remittance of union check-off dues, prolonged casualization, contract staffing and redundancy”.

Sen. Ngige gave a short history of the disputes in the sector which compelled him to intervene and declare status quo ante-bellum on May 30, 2016, directing banks to reverse all termination of the previous four months while the unions were restrained from picketing the banks, pending the outcome of negotiations. He observed that the misinterpretation of this directive led to an invitation by the Senate Committee on Banking and Financial Institutions, which agreed that the ministerial directives were proper, and legally guided after his appearance with the banks and the unions and commended his approach to the matter.

The Minister therefore reassured that his intervention was to resolve the disputes in the overall interest of all Nigerians. He expressed displeasure with the skewed observance of the laws of the land by the financial institutions and warned that the provisions of the Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) cannot be the only law banks will comply with, to the exclusion of the laws of the country.

According to the Minister, “Banks are not only to obey the Banks and Financial Institutions Act; they must also obey the all encompassing laws of Nigeria, especially the labour laws because the banks cannot function without human beings. So, both the banks, that’s the owners and the unions, the umbrella for the workers must conform to the laws of the land that guide employer/employee relationship.”
He said the Federal Government was conscious of the nation’s steep economic indices, hence, the emphasis on saving the jobs where government was constrained to create new ones.

“The economy is technically in recession. It is therefore imperative for us as government to use various mechanisms to keep the existing jobs as we have done in the oil sector where cuts in perks and allowances especially at the upper level were deployed. We expect same in your sector,” he said.

The Minister further assured that government was not on a witch-hunt but was also prepared to ensure that all parties to the dispute obey the laws of the land, insisting that where retrenchment was inevitable at the end of negotiations, due process of law, however, must be followed.

In his response, the National President of Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFE) Comrade Sunday Salako commended the Minister for his forthrightness and dogged determination to defend the rights of all Nigerians irrespective of class. “ This is the first time, a Minister of Labour in this country, at least in recent time, will for once come out to say that the bourgeoisie that are taking we the workers for a ride in this country cannot do that again with impunity. That statement alone is a firm new direction,” Salako said. He listed unilateral declaration of redundancy, casualization, and non-remittance of check-up dues as the peak of the unfair labour practices in the sector and expressed the commitment of the union to complement the efforts of the government to tackle the problems.

Similarly, the National President of the National Union of Banks , Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees( NUBIFIE) Comrade Danjuma Musa decried the flagrant abuse of labour laws by the bank employers listing Guarantee Trust Bank, Fidelity, Standard Chartered, Stanbic IBTC as well as Daimond as topping the list of defaulting banks . He told the Minister that since his intervention, the management of the banks have resorted to hiding under the principle of “Appraisal” to give poor evaluation to workers they want to sack.

The rogue was flocked for up to two hours. Some of the weapons used against him were:

The place was dark, cloudy and raining so it was difficult to recognize all what was used against him.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode donated N5 million to two students of the Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) today, Thursday, September 15, 2016. The students – Sarunmi Oluwafemi and Dada Samuel designed a new technology for generating biogas through the treatment of animal waste.

The two beneficiaries were among the 422 successful graduates of the Ready, Set, Work (RSW) programme of the state government aimed at equipping graduates of tertiary institutions in the state with the necessary entrepreneurial skills.

The business idea involves the treatment of animal waste in order to generate biogas which can be used for domestic cooking, generation of electricity, among other purposes. It is also targeted at providing a potential substitute for the ever costly liquefied petroleum gas.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to capacity building, entrepreneurship empowerment, and sustainable youth development. He added that the RSW initiative was one of the initiatives targeted at youth empowerment in the state and vowed to increase the number of students in the pilot scheme of the RSW programme from 500 in 2016 to 1000 in 2017.
