RE: DEJI ADEYANJU – A PRODUCT OF POMP & PAGEANTRY I read Lauretta Onochie’s article with a mixture of amusement and concern. At the time I wrote the article to which she responded, I had the feeling it would elicit a response from some quarters. I just did not expect that the response would come from someone who so obviously lacks the capacity to do so. The response she gave is typical with the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) that she serves – incoherent, lacking in substance, written to redirect readers from the salient issues and calculated to ultimately deceive. It is not surprising that she follows a well worn path of a government more interested in propaganda & deceit than it is in actual governance. Lauretta, unable to respond on the salient issues, tried to paint a vivid picture of an Aso Rock under former Presidents from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) that did not exist, a picture purely from the figment of her imagination, an insight into perhaps what goes on there. For the avoidance of doubt, the salient issues I referred to include: • the mass murder of more than 1000 people in Zaria in December 2015 by the military for which no one has been prosecuted; • the continuous extra-judicial murder of Nigerian citizens in the South Eastern part of the country by security agents; • the disjointed FX policies of this administration which have seen the Naira become the 3rd worst performing currency in the world in 2016; • the galloping inflation rate – currently standing at 17.5% (it was 9.6% at the inception of this administration); • 4.58m people have lost their jobs since the inception of the Muhammadu Buhari administration; • Nigeria currently wallows in a recession for the first time in more than two decades with our GDP sliding from -0.36% in Q1 2016 to -2.26% in Q2 2016 (Nigeria averaged a 6% GDP growth in the last 5 years), and • The mass murder of more than 1000 people in 2016 alone by herdsmen supported by an armed militia in the North Central region of the country; One would expect that a person who goes by the moniker “Personal Assistant to the President on Social Media” would be able to respond on these issues, even if she copied the answers from somewhere or someone else. But alas! One would be very wrong. As needless as Ms (or is it Mrs? I am genuinely unaware) Onochie’s job is, seeing as she serves in a government that already has an Information Minister, an SA to the President on Media & Publicity, an SSA to the President on Media & Publicity, an SA to the President on Digital Communications and a Personal Assistant to the President on New Media; the expectation from Nigerians is a certain level of professionalism from this unnecessary drain on public finances. While she was preparing her response, Mr. President was delivering an Independence Day address to the Nation that was as uninspiring as it was filled with unnecessary falsehood. Simple fact checks have shown that contrary to Mr. President’s assertions, Nigeeria was not a pariah state before the inception of his inauguration, he has indeed become the subject of comical lampoons in the Ghanaian presidential elections, investors are fleeing the Nigerian economy in droves with billions of dollars in investment, and that General Electric did not plan to invest $2.2b in Nigeria but had in fact planned to invest $150m in Nigeria by 2017. One wonders, how a President with so many media aides makes such schoolboy errors. In ending, as much as Lauretta Onochie would like to put lipstick on a pig that is this administration, the facts show it in all its ugliness. I am sure that in her private moments, while eating seedless grapes taken from Aso Rock, she must admit to herself that life has become almost impossible – if not for her, for the 4.58m Nigeria’s who have lost their jobs on her principal’s watch, for the millions of Nigerians who have to buy food at exorbitant prices, for the sons who have watched their fathers be murdered in cold blood & daughters watch their mothers get raped while waiting their turn at the hands of herdsmen in the North Central amongst others. Only then, perhaps will she be able to tell her boss properly about the hell into which he has forced Nigerians. Below is a statement released by Segun Adeyemi, SA to Hon Minister of Information and Culture.... PARTNERSHIP WITH TONY ELUMELU FOUNDATION WILL LIFT CREATIVE INDUSTRIES - MINISTER The partnership between the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture and the Tony Elumelu Foundation will help to re-position the Creative Industries in Nigeria, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said. Speaking at a ceremony for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry and the Foundation in Lagos on Tuesday, the Minister expressed the strong belief that the collaboration will be the much-needed catalyst to transform the country's Creative Industries to a Creative Economy. ''The MoU contained details of how we will work together to execute our partnership. More specifically, the areas of collaboration will include the creation of an enabling business environment for the creative industries with such incentives as easy access to finance;the structuring of the Creative Industries to enable it generate independent revenues locally and also boost exports to increase Nigeria's foreign exchange earnings; and comprehensive statistics about the Creative Industries, including its size and projections, to guide potential local and foreign investors,'' he said. Alhaji Mohammed said an innovative part of the collaboration ''is the plan to convene a Creative Economy Task Force to map the Creative Industries to provide a better picture of what is happening on the ground and help inform policy development'', adding: ''We also plan to measure the economic contribution of these industries to the Nigerian economy and provide a blueprint for action.'' He explained that the agreement was part of efforts by the Federal Government to ensure that the Creative Industries become a major factor in the ongoing diversification of the country's economy. ''To reap the full potentials of the Creative Industries, we realized early on that we will need to reach out to organizations that have the capacity and the drive to assist us in achieving our goals, organizations that can utilize their business knowledge, network and technical expertise to assist the Ministry in the development of Nigeria’s Creative Industries. ''This explains why we entered into discussions with the Tony Elumelu Foundation and the British Council. The discussions have now yielded fruits. On Aug. 24th 2016 in Edinburgh, Scotland, we signed an MoU with the British Council. And today, we are signing another MoU with the Tony Elumelu Foundation. Together, we will work to re-position the Creative Industries in Nigeria,'' the Minister said. He said provision must be made for concrete benchmarks ''to measure our progress in the implementation of this MoU'' to ensure that ''by the time we conclude the initial two-year period of this historic collaboration, no one will need to strain his eyes to see the achievements''. Alhaji Mohammed said efforts to lift the Creative Industries have received support at the highest level of the Administration, adding: ''Last week, at an evening of conversation with the youth, President Muhammadu Buhari not only rallied support for the sector, he also directed that such support must reflect in the budget of the Ministry of Information and Culture in 2017.'' He commended the Chairman of the Foundation, Mr Tony Elumelu, for throwing his full weight, and that of his Foundation, behind the idea of a partnership between the Ministry and the Foundation to rejuvenate the Creative Industries, which range from advertising, architecture, the art and antiques market, crafts, design, fashion, film, interactive leisure and software, music, the performing arts and publishing to Radio and Television. For his part, Mr. Elumelu hailed the Minister for the partnership initiative, and assured that even more of his colleagues in the private sector would support the Creative Industries once they are properly structured. The ceremony for the signing of the MoU by the Minister and Mr. Elumelu, which was held at the National Theatre, was attended by major industry players, including Nollywood and music stars and Comedians, as well as beneficiaries of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme, which aims to identify, over 10 years, a total of 10,000 African start-ups and entrepreneurs with ideas that can generate at least 1,000,000 new jobs and contribute at least 10 billion dollars in new annual revenues across Africa. cc; Lalasticlala, ijebabe Source: http://www.trezzyhelm.com/2016/10/tony-elumelu-foundation-and-lai.html?m=1

As shared by Paul Julius........ 'If there's a better word to use in the place of veteran, then that should come for this old war horse in the world of make believe. Uncle Tunde Alabi has been on the acting scene since the glorious days of television drama in Nigeria and he's today one of the last remnants of that octopus called The Village Headmaster, a television drama that was the in - thing in its days on National Television. His role in the now rested soap opera 'PALACE' produced by Ralph Nwadike was one that viewers will not forget in haste. This thorough breed professional of the old order who is equally at home with the youngsters of today, impacting knowledge and valuable experience into them whenever he has the opportunity is currently down with ailment which has put his right foot in danger to the point of amputation if urgent help is not given. He's lying helplessly at the General Hospital, Lagos waiting to lose his right leg or even worse. He has done his part by putting smiles on the faces and happiness to the lives of millions home and abroad, it's our turn to help him. Nothing is too small...HE will appreciate your candid help. Thanks and God bless Source: http://www.trezzyhelm.com/2016/10/veteran-actor-tunde-alabi-down-with.html

Reno Omokri has described as a blatant lie some of the statements credited to President Muhammadu Buhari in his 56th Independence speech to the nation on Saturday. The former Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan listed some of the statements made by the President and presenting his own argument. Read below; These are the preliminary list of lies from President Buhari's 2016 Independence Day Speech. More may be exposed as I detect them. President Buhari lied when he said only ₦400 million was voted for housing in 2014. A total of ₦12,888,821,003 was allocated. Even the salary of the staff of the housing ministry is above ₦400 million. President Buhari should be above lying. President Buhari lied when he said Nigeria was 'a pariah' under GEJ. Then British Prime Minister, David Cameron and incumbent German Chancellor,Angela Merkel do not visit pariah countries. They and many others visited Nigeria under Jonathan. President Buhari lied by saying 'Investors from all over are falling over themselves to come do business in Nigeria'. The reverse is true. According to Bloomberg, the divestment of foreign investors from Nigeria is unprecedented. Not only are foreign investors fleeing Nigeria faster than jets (an exaggeration on my part to demonstrate pun as airlines use jets) no fewer than 5 foreign airlines have left Nigeria. Don't take my word for it. Google it yourself. President Buhari lied when he said only ₦12 billion went to roads in 2015. Between 2014 and 2015 SURE-P Government intervention spent over ₦70 billion on roads. Please again Google this by yourself. President Buhari did not say the whole truth when he claims to have generated 5000MWs. He conveniently forgot to mention that those power stations were built by Jonathan and other PDP leaders. President Buhari has not built even one station. This is sheer dishonesty! President Buhari lied when he claimed 'nothing was saved during years of prosperity'. He inherited over $30 Billion in reserves and savings from Jonathan. As President Buhari was busy condemning Jonathan he didn't tell you he borrowed ₦2.2 Trillion in a year. That's the only major area of the economy where he beats Jonathan. In conclusion, President Buhari's Independence Day speech contained so many lies, exaggerations and inaccuracies. Need I remind the President that lying is corruption! #PMBIndependenceLie cc; Lalasticlala,mynd44 Source: http://www.trezzyhelm.com/2016/10/analysis-of-buharis-lies-in-56th.html

Brilliant Nigerian Makes History in the United Kingdom Ignatius Akpabio, an Indigene of Akwa Ibom state, has won the British Petroleum Prize for the best project on the course at the School of Computing Science and Digital Media’s 2016 Annual Awards Ceremony of the Robert Gordon University, UK. A Nigerian Masters student who has graduated with distinction from Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen is also celebrating picking up an industry prize for his academic performance. Ignatius Akpabio (23),graduated with an MSc in IT for the Oil and Gas Industry in July, and was awarded the BP prize for the best project on the course at the School of Computing Science and Digital Media’s annual awards ceremony. Ignatius said: “I feel very excited to have won this prize as I didn’t expect it and I’m very grateful to the best project supervisor anyone can have, Dr Iain Pirie, for been very supportive of me during the implementation of my MSc project.” Ignatius decided to embark on the course due to its unique nature in the higher education sector, as well as the growing importance of the oil and gas industry in his home country. “Oil and gas being the major source of GDP in Nigeria means that the future of the country might well depend on the sector,” he said. “I’m a strong proponent of the ‘Nigeria of Tomorrow’ and therefore, in every possible way I want to contribute my own quota to the development of my country. “Coming from an IT background, I would like to use IT to develop and improve the oil and gas sector.” Ignatius developed an inventory management system for an oil and gas servicing company as part of his MSc project, which was able to monitor and ensure effective management of goods to and from the warehouses and also record sales and purchases of goods while automatically updating stock levels with each transaction. He said: “Implementing the system was very challenging as it consists of a lot of functionalities. It was developed as a web application to aid authorised access from anywhere around the world as long as there is connection to the internet.” Ignatius added: “The MSc course content itself is a very rich one which encompasses modules from core oil and gas engineering, petroleum geoscience and information technology. “I have found my time at RGU very rewarding and the School, alongside dedication on my part, has helped me improve on my software development skills. “Thanks to lecturers like Dr David Lonie and Dr Angela Siegel, I found software development very interesting and this enabled me to excel exceedingly well in both modules.” Despite offers to stay back abroad, Akpabio has resolved to return home to pursue the Nigerian dream!
