That number also includes universities, collages, proprietary schools and all the paraphernalia where knowledge is disseminated ! rvp20183: Secondary schools are close to 10K .
Public secondary are 8,297 and private 1,350 as of 2017
And independence - British left Kenya with 151 secondary schools only.
Primary schools should be well over 30K if you include private primary schools.
I guess if you include pre-schools - then 100K is possible. |

Schools are built by the community and local leaders. We are fine so I guess we can afford to keep up with the status quo! vaxx: if you ask me, building schools should be one of the top agenda of goverment. private and other social co-operative shouldn't be left alone. Advance country like Uk just recently open up a Goverment investment scheme call ""building school for the future"" read about it on Wikipedia. |

Thanks for saying it! chrisagyei: A Nigerian should never speak on education because you illiterates don't value education with a national literacy rate of 59% and currently having the world largest out of school children.Don't you know that in progressive African countries it's the Parents Teachers Association(PTA) in collaboration with prominent old students, huge cooperations, government education trustfunds and philanthropist build schools and school infrastructures. The government have other things to worry about and focuses on educational policies. Tell me the top ten public high schools in Nigeria and I will tell you the foreign missionary or colonial government who built and founded it.Idiot of a citizen of poverty headquarters country |

Good for Ghana. The Government doesn't build schools in Kenya, that's the reserve of county governments, community leaders and such. The government may however release funds for the rehabilitation or upgrade of school's infrastructure! vaxx: Ghana past Goverment build about 200 community high school across Ghana.
The interesting thing about it is, they finished it before leaving office |

They are not 'military' That's the NYS-National Youth Service -About 30,000 youth are recruited annually and trained in various skills (paramilitary, engineering, fashion and design, business management, catering, agriculture, secretarial, plant operation, construction, driving) and, prepared for other national matters such as service in the armed forces, national reconstruction and disaster response. These remain relevant to date- Learn more about it here http://www.nys.go.ke/XhosaNostra: What is happening here? Strangest thing I've ever seen. Your military work the fields? |

Don't forget the strong alumni of the schools that would rally together in rebuilding the schools. It's more than parents I think, the whole community at large chips in and contributes its share in many of the fundraising ceremonies! That's how it should be,we shouldn't just be dependent on the government for everything! rvp20183: We already spend way too much on education - for national gov to build infrastructure. We are spending about 5billion dollars because we pay our teachers VERY WELL - 3rd best after South Africa and Morocco. We also send capitation for every students, books and school equipment - including laptops & tablets.
Right now CDF (Const Fund) is mostly building the schools - but yes it's parent responsibility to build school infrastructure.
I think now national gov has started budget small money for improving school infrastructure - but it will be a while before kenya gov - county or national - takes that responsibility officially from parents. |
