Over apply sef, the telecoms industry is a perfect example. It will be very high in the beginning, but later, people will be begging Nigerians to buy for 8k. Then, I believe we or naira can gain value
the telecom industry is just the only example you have to offer. What about oil and gas, agriculture, textile, manufacturing etc? All in all, what goes up doesn't always come down as long as the Nigerian factor is involve.

This guy is a joke and he's obviously making a mockery of Nigerians. Anytime he's to appear in court, you see him pretending to be fragile and sick whereas when it comes to twitter and making noise, he's very fit to make a complete nuisance of himself.

What a joke of a guy.

We grew up criticising nne for always using firewood and kerosene stoves (sparingly) to cook.. Esp after we visit classmates and family friends homes and see their 'sweet smelling' gascookers. To the extent that when Paterson zochonis,a Greek company that my dad distributes for gives us yearly gifts, nne keeps other electronics but auctions off the gascookers among them..

Fastfoward years later,...am married with kids...guess what? We don't use gascookers in the house,...not after what I experienced sometime in 2003,...
what you experienced was as a result of human negligence, not gas.

You're talking about getting paid? Bro you forget about the side hustle, which of course pay more than normal hustle. grin cheesy

Heh. It was simply double/triple shakedown time.
During scarcity, once fuel in a station drops below a level, it is typically held in reserve for owner, family friends, police /security and staff of whichever company logo the station is carrying. Anyway, that's a story for another day I guess.
you make it sound like every filling station owner does this.

Well like you say, story for another day.

Is that the government or is it the same greedy Nigerians you referenced?
who is the government? Isn't it the same greedy Nigerians that make up the government, no matter how small they are compared to the bigger population.
Anytime the government tries to enforce some form of regulation, this is what happens. In 2017, when there was fuel scarcity in December, there was a ban/warning on hoarding.

Next thing DPR officials are shutting down any station that has fuel in their tanks and is not selling no matter the reason. There were big queues at the dpr offices paying up to 250k to unseal their stations.
what excuse do the people who refused to sell petrol have? Bro when things like this happen, there are always people who will benefit massively from it. Those people whose filling station were shut down have no connection in high places whatsoever that's why their filling station was shut down.
We are opportunistic predatory bastards and most of this countries problems can be traced to the unrestrained greed and corruption of individual Nigerians
well you can say that again. The love for money and the zeal to oppress our fellow Nigerian is the root cause of this.

Seems you know.

They've been making a killing since the past 3 weeks. It costs at least N1,500 to pass through the border now if you don't have a passport......but that's not what they're told to do. Someone said he paid as much as N3,000. And as always, even other agencies are keying in on the free money.

Let me not forget the bulk of the seized items are shared by same officials and some resold at night time.
yet some people still believe this government is fighting corruption when they're enabling it.

if you're smart you should know theory is very different from practical. You don't just go into a business without knowing the nitty gritty.

midolian:
of course I get your point. The government was too strict to have closed the border outrightly but it's all for good, I maintain.

If the government's to wait till there is enough to go round before closing the border, there will never be enough to go round. This is because people like you and I are already too used to foreign rice and are not ready to give the local ones a chance...and for as long as we have foreign rice flying around, we would continue to go for them...thereby discouraging producers of the local ones

For instance, I used to buy my rice(foreign) from baruten local government in Kwara state for as low as 11500, at max 12k. But since the border was closed, I only bought a small rubber Paint of rice for #1500 with the hope that before we finish consuming it, the borders will be opened again. Bro, I am saying this for you to know I am also feeling the heat...but truth is, I have been into agric business for sometime now, and I have noticed when there is too much of a farm produce in the market, we the sellers don't gain much..in fact sometimes, we lose(like it was experienced last year).
That's the essence of being in business. Sometimes you make profit and sometimes you don't. The thing is every Nigerian man wants to always make profit, even at the expense of others.

I still maintain even if every foreign rice is shot into space, our local rice will still be expensive. That's the greed I'm talking about and beside, how many farmers do we even have in the country.

Take yam for example bro. Do we import it? No. But yet it's still very expensive. The farmers are fvcking greedy. I've been to Kishi and Ebgeti bro, what I saw there made me believe people in rural areas love money more than those in urban areas.

It's all a very complicated situation bro.
PoliticsRe: Border Closure: Benin, Niger Economies Under Pressure by joseph1832(m): 11:42am On Sep 15, 2019
midolian:
bro, this is not theory. It's practical. Locally produced rice for now will be very expensive because we don't have enough to go round and Nigeria being a country filled with corrupt and opportunistic people will experience a hike in the price of the available little.

Now imagine the Federal Government leaving the borders closed for another 3years,...lemme remind you that any business that brings in good money in Nigeria will be 'flooded' till the business becomes crashes or becomes less profitable. What I am trying to say here is that, with the kind of money farmers will make during this period of border closure will encourage many more people go into farming...and before you know it, there will be more than enough to go round...and before you know it, farmers will be struggling to get people to buy their own...

Bro, this is beyond corrupt Nigerians. It's a natural thing. The price will crash.
you say there isn't enough locally produce rice to go around that's why it's expensive, right. Now since there isn't enough to go around why didn't the government wait for there to be enough to go around before they close the border.

Think about it, there isn't enough local rice to go around and it's expensive, now that the border is close what do you think will happen to the little local rice that is around? The price will triple and who will bear the burden?

There are business that brings in good money that will never be flooded because the capital to start it is something else.

The federal government is making a very big mistake with this move. I hope you know the price of chicken have gone up now?

PoliticsRe: Border Closure: Benin, Niger Economies Under Pressure by joseph1832(m): 11:24am On Sep 15, 2019
midolian:
Things will only be expensive as it is now only for a short time. By the time people see the only option we have is to consume our locally produced goods, it will encourage more to go into the production. This in the end will bring competition among the producers... naturally, the prices of these items will crash.

Look beyond now, pls
bro stop believing all this economic principles. It doesn't apply in a country like Nigeria where we have many greedy and corrupt individuals.

Have you bothered to find out how much is a bag of our locally produced Rice?

See what happens when you roll with dullards like ishi? Your IQ drops.

Let me repeat one more time:

RELIGIONS ARE IDEAS. IDEAS SHOULD BE CRITICIZED.

PEOPLE ON THE OTHER HAND, ARE DIFFERENT FROM IDEAS.
so according to you, a fag_ is a human being and a Christian or Muslim is what, an antelope?

See what happens when you're infatuated with someone who doesn't give a rats penis_ about your mundane existence?

I mean you can't even have a debate without mentioning Ishilove while she on the other hand, doesn't even see your moniker talk less of your less than useless existence.

Only an anus sympathizer fail to know the difference between criticizing a thing and ridiculing that same thing.

Small wonder everything you type smells like sh1t. It's such a shame your sh1t has more value than you.

There are numerous gay jokes one can make. No one will kill you for making gay jokes. In fact there are numerous gay jokes on south park, American dad and family guy. The problem comes when people like you make hateful statements against their person. For instance, saying that they should be beaten or killed or arrested just for being gay.
of course no one will kill you for making gay jokes, but you will be labeled homophobe, called a hater and above, they'll make life difficult for you.

You speak as if people like you don't make hateful statement about Christians and Muslims. Calling them all sort of names for believing in a 'sky daddy'. Logic boy, You of all people shouldn't be in any position to even speak about this
Christianity and Islam on the other hand are ideas and not people. Ideas can be criticized and should be.
just imagine this nonsense. So they individuals who believe in those ideas are who or what exactly? A gay is who? A lesbian is who? A transgender is who? A Christian is who? A table or a chair.
There is nothing wrong in mocking an idea or philosophy. Why are scientists not afraid of their theories being mocked? Why aren't philosophers afraid of their philosophy being mocked.
this is lame. Very lame.

yes we know.
