Pius Adesanmi's 7-year-old daughter, Tise, who paid him a tribute at a memorial service in his honor organized by Carleton University in Canada yesterday March 22nd, stated that her father died a great working man.

Professor Pius Adesanmi's daughter who promised to keep getting A+ in all her subjects and also keep her father's legacy, said her father who died a  great working man, taught her how to speak french and how to read.

The police have arrested four more suspects for Oyo lawmaker, Hon. Olatoye's murder as confirmed by the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Frank Mba. According to Mba, the police arrested four more suspects for Olatoye's murder, bringing the total number of apprehended suspects in custody to five.

According to him, effort to arrest other accomplices linked to death of House of Representatives member for Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency, Temitope Olatoye, popularly known as ‘Sugar', is in top gear.Suspects in custody include “Lafisoye Akinmoyede, 54; Alh. Rafiu Adebayo, 68; Taofeek Adebayo a.k.a Ejo, 39, Alh. Rasheed Oladele, 66 and Mutiu Oguntola, 28, who was apprehended on Thursday.”

Punch reported that Oguntola sustained bullet injuries in the shoulder blade and groin while trying to evade arrest, and was subsequently taken to an undisclosed hospital where he was being stabilised.

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA Boss, Mr Adeshina Tiamiyu, has stated that the pupils in Lagos collapsed building are not up to 100. Mr Adeshina who debunked claims that over 100 pupils were trapped in the collapsed building on No. 63 Massey Street, Ita Faaji area of Lagos Island  said,  “I have seen the picture of the building before it collapsed and I can confirm to you that the floor that housed the school cannot accommodate up to 100 pupils.”

The LASEMA Boss who maintained that the pupils in Lagos collapsed building are not up to 100, however didn’t give the figure of pupils in the school. He said, “only the school administrator can tell us the number of pupils in the school, but the proprietor is also at the hospital receiving treatment and we can’t confirm that now.”

An armed robbery suspect and an 80-year-old armourer have been arrested and paraded by the police in Delta State, for allegedly terrorising Ughelli, Warri and Udu environs. 

The arrested suspects were identified as Emmanuel Patrick and Udenmba Ndu Ben and according to the State's Commissioner of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke, Patrick who hails from the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, confessed to the crime and gave the names of other members of the gang.

The 32-year-old suspect who was arrested with a pump action gun and seven cartridges, admitted to partaking in three armed robbery operations in the state and also led the police to the gang’s armoury, where two other pump action guns, four double-barrelled guns, one single-barrelled gun, one air gun, 274 cartridges, two bulletproof jackets and four bullet holders were recovered.Punch reported that the armed robbery who was arrested alongside his gang's armourer, Udemba, revealed that he is from Eskusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Solomon Dalung, Nigeria's Sports Minister who spoke on Thursday in Benin during the extra-ordinary meeting of the National Council on Sports, disclosed that Nigeria won 700 medals under his reign. 

The Sports Minister who lamented the experiences of some states sports directors during the 19th National Sports Festival in Abuja last December, called on state governors to change their attitude towards sports  development in the country by making budgetary provisions for athletes to ease the sufferings of the athletes and officials. He further revealed that some athletes travelled to Abuja with the hope that money would be released for their contingents, but had to resort to an emergency fund-raiser before they could participate in the championship.

Solomon Dalung who recounted  how Nigeria won 700 medal under his reign, said; “In the past three years I took over as the sports administrator of the country, Nigeria has been able to win over 700 medals in various sporting competitions that we participated in and this is quite historic,” he said.

A Nigerian female referee identified as Basheer Salisu, will be officiating the 2019 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (U-17 AFCON) in Tanzania alongside three other female referees. 

This is said to be the first time female referees will be officiating at a men’s football competition in Africa, and other female referees listed among the 29-match officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the 2019 U-17 AFCON, include; Jonesia Rukyaa Kabakana from Tanzania, Kenya’s Mary Wanjiru Njoroge and Lidwine Rakotozafinoro from Madagascar. 

The Nigerian female referee who will be officiating the 2019 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (U-17 AFCON), will attend a training course with others, ahead of preparation for the tournament in Morocco scheduled to hold from March 31 to April 4 2019 in Morocco.

Former Vatican treasurer, Cardinal George Pell will serve a six year jail sentence for sexually abusing choir boys after being arraigned before an Australian court.On Wednesday, an Australian court in Melbourne ruled on the hearing which convicts former top adviser to the Pope Francis for abusing Choir boy in the 1990s.

County Court of Victoria Chief Judge Peter Kidd said that there was a real chance that Pell could spend the rest of his life in prison.Judge Peter Kidd speaking in court on Wednesday as the former Vatican treasurer George Pell was been convicted  said,

“In my view, your conduct was permeated by staggering arrogance,”“Viewed overall, I consider your moral culpability across both episodes to be high.”The Vatican treasurer who will serve a six year jail sentence, however maintained his innocence and also filed an appeal which would be heard in June.

The offences against two 13-year-old boys took place after Sunday mass in late 1996 and early 1997 in a room and a corridor at St Patrick’s Cathedral, in Melbourne, where Pell was archbishop. Pell was found guilty on four charges of indecent acts and one of sexual penetration. He faced a maximum of 10 years in jail for each charge.

A Mechanic's wife identified as Kehinde, reportedly lost her 4-months pregnancy after being assaulted by her landlady Toyin Sulaimon aka Iya Sade, and her sons, Azeez and Baba Oja, in the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos State.Eyewitnesses disclosed that the mechanic identified as Sodiq, rented one of the rooms at the apartment located on No 33 Udem Street, Brown bus stop, Iju-Ishaga which reportedly belongs to Toyin's brother Bankole.

However after he refused to to lie to Bankole that he had yet to pay his rent though she had allegedly collected six months’ rent from him, Toyin reportedly ordered him to pack out of the apartment after his rent must have elapsed, but while the tenant was making arrangements to leave the house, the landlady and her sons allegedly assaulted Sodiq and his wife. According to Sodiq, he was called him from the room by Toyin who started assaulting him alongside one Baba Oja and 16 others. The mechanic's wife lost her pregnancy while being assaulted too by the landlady and one of her sons who tried to force his way into their room with a rod. 

Sodiq who disclosed that a scan at Leke memorial hospital confirmed that their baby died during the alleged assault, also alleged that the inspectors in charge of the case at Area ‘G’ Police Command, Ogba, Lagos, refused to thoroughly investigate the matter, because they had allegedly connived with the perpetrators to cover up the crime.

However Toyin on her own part claimed that when she asked Sodiq for the rent he owed, he allegedly punched her on the chest.She said, “My children and I did not beat anybody. What happened was that Sodiq’s rent had been due for a year and three months and when I asked for the money, he punched me on my chest.“We are currently at the police station because of the matter; when we are done, I will call you back.”

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Elkana Bala, said the Area Commander, Area ‘G’, had taken over the matter on the orders of Mu’azu and had transferred the case to the Zone 2 Command in Onikan for further investigation.

A yet-to-be identified lady who was dropped off in Warri area of Delta State by an unknown Benz driver left everyone confused as she was dumb and acted like someone who lost her memory.The lady who was left dumb after she was dropped off at Ajamimogha road in Warri area by the Benz driver, had eyewitnesses thinking she has been used for ritual.

Sources disclosed that the a road side sweeper who saw her while being dropped off, notified residents of the area about the incident.Efforts are being made to locate her family as she is yet to say anything since residents gathered. Fingers of a former Ekiti Commissioner’s husband was chopped off by assassins, who invaded her residence located in Ijesa Isu.

Mrs Funke Owoseeni, the former Commissioner of Women Affairs during the first tenure of Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti State narrowly escaped being killed by the assassins who stormed her house at about 8.30pm and turned off the generating set outside, throwing the well- lit environment into total blackout. 

The fingers of the Commissioner’s husband was chopped off by the assassins, in the attack Funke believes is politically motivated. Narrating how she escaped the incident in which two students living in the building were also attacked with cutlass and iron rod, she said; 

“I was able to see them and I had to rush back inside and hid myself somewhere. They brought my husband inside and started asking, where is your wife? We are here for her and not you. .

When he didn’t give them where I was, they started macheting him with dangerous weapons and they did that until they chopped up his fingers and they fled when they saw that he had passed out”, she said.

A man  identified as Laiko Osuri has been arrested for beating his wife to death with belt, at their Kahawa Sukari home, Nairobi, Kenya.

The deceased identified as  Beryl Adhiambo Ouma reportedly screamed for help for hours, but no one came to her aid as her husband assaulted her with a belt for  four hours. It was further learnt Beryl sent her father, Douglas Ouma a  “Please Call Me” text on Wednesday night, however when he tried reaching her, nobody picked at the other end.

“My daughter sent me a ‘Please call me’ but I was asleep so I did not hear the phone,” he told a local news platform. Neighbours who commented on the lady's death, said the couple fought a lot which they claimed was the usual “husband and wife quarrels”.

The man who was arrested for beating his wife to death with a belt is currently in police custody, and according to Ruiru divisional police commander James Ng’etich, he will be arraigned today as he has admitted to assaulting the deceased using a belt.

It's no longer news that INEC postponed the elections scheduled to hold today, but let's take a walk back to the memory lane on what Buhari said when elections were postponed in 2015.

President Buhari who heavily criticized INEC, accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government of systematic rigging.  However it should be recalled that on February 8, 2015, six days away, INEC postponed the February 14 presidential election by six weeks citing insecurity.

According to the then INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, the delay until 28 March was necessary because of heightened insecurity that could affect the safety of election personnel, voters and materials, especially in the troubled North-east region.

However here is what President Buhari said when elections were postponed in 2015 in an interview with Channel 4 News;

“It took INEC one month to work out…I see no reason why we should postpone it,” Mr Buhari said when asked by the planned postponement of 2015.

“There are 14 local governments where there is (security) problem; 10 in Borno, two in Your, two in Adamawa. And there and 774 local governments in Nigeria. Should we postpone the election because of 14 local governments?”

He also suggested that even with Boko Haram onslaught, the electoral umpire ought to go ahead.

“Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria were fighting wars and they conducted elections, what is Boko Haram?” he said, dismissing the reporter.

“I wish to appeal for utmost restraint and calm by all Nigerians, especially the teeming supporters of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
