A Nigerian man, Mbaneto Sopuluchukwu who was among the suspects arrested by in the Philippines with N125m worth of drugs, was in the Nigerian army before his dream was allegedly shattered by the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA.Recall that it was reported that a buy-bust operation was held on Saturday, and it resulted in the arrest of Mbaneto Sopuluchukwu, 22. The Philippines Dangerous Drugs Act prescribes the death penalty for drug traffickers.

A friend who called out the NDA, disclosed that Sopuluchukwu who was offered a place in service, broke his legs while being beaten by Senior Cadets. However after his leg didn't heal in one month, the NDA authorities sent him packing. The friend wrote;

I can't keep quiet in this, Sopulu is a product of the Nigerian system. If Sopulu dies by hanging in Philippines its because of the Nigerian government. I know Sopulu, he is like a brother to me he is in his early twenties, when he was in Secondary School he was the senior prefect of University Secondary School Nsukka. His only goal in life was to serve the Nigerian army. He got accepted into NDA and he was a cadet until he was beaten and his leg broken by senior cadets in NDA and was given a month to heal and when his knee couldn't heal he was not allowed more time by the army. He wasn't able to continue with his dreams to become a soldier. That was when he left the country...if the military wasn't gruesome in their treatment of beating and their fellow cadets to the extent of severe physical damage this will never had happened. This is the story of a 22 year old Nigerian now facing death penalty in the Philippines.

Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land who spoke at the 2nd annual lecture of Freedom Online, which held in Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday, told Femi Adesina to tell President Buhari that Nigerians are hungry. The event had Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, as guest speaker, Adesina who is Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity and Adams were guests of honour while Onigbinde was the keynote speaker.

However speaking at the event, Adesina who spoke on the achievements of the Buhari’s administration since 2015, claimed that only those who chose to be willfully blind would not acknowledge government’s achievements. According to him, Nigeria’s agricultural export grew by 180.7 per cent; while raw materials export in the same year rose by 150.2 per cent. He also claimed that rice importation had reduced by 90 per cent, saving the country billions of dollars on a daily basis.

However Gani Adams who spoke after Femi Adesina reeled out his statistics, said it was beautiful but it meant little to the man on the street. He said, “You made a very good analysis, but by the time we check it, I know you are a very honest person and you are telling us the truth, but with this analysis, I think the grass-roots people should feel the government; they should feel the impact of government by all means.“I am a regular traveller; I’ve travelled to about 46 countries and I know what is happening in the developed world and when you see most of their economic analysts, they won’t tell you what they are doing theoretically but you will see what is happening.”


Gani Adams further told Femi Adesina to go back to Abuja and tell the President that the people were hungry. However Prof Akin Onigbinde described the statistics on Buhari’s achievements as “the reality that we cannot see.” Onigbinde said;

“I welcome my friend, Adesina, telling us the reality we cannot see; we are not wearing glasses, these are things I encounter on a daily basis. I have heard about the Metro Rice in Ogun State, I saw it only on television; it is not in Daleko Market and the rice is also not in Kuto.“I live in Bodija, I can’t see this rice. But Femi is my brother, he has a duty to direct our gaze to what we cannot see and we begin to see things in our imagination.”

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has reacted after Omotola Jalade stated that Nigeria is hellish under Buhari following the recent killings witnessed across the country. The tweet from the APC came after Ahmad Bashir, a media aide to President Buhari dismissed Omotola’s comment, as he claimed that those with legitimate means of livelihood were not complaining under the current administration.

A school in Ajegunle now allows parents to pay school fees with plastic bottles, as they adopted the RecyclesPay Educational Project, an initiative of African Clean Up Initiative (ACI), an environmental non-governmental organisation in Lagos.Morit International School, Ajegunle, which allows parents to pay school fees with cleanly sorted plastic bottles gathered from the environment, embraced the initiative following their concern about reducing the burden of parents paying their wards fees. 

It was further gathered that so far, over 25 parents of the low-income school have embraced the initiative whereby parents bring plastic wastes on designated days.The amount paid is noted, after Wecyclers, the recycling company attached to the project comes to collect the plastic bottles after weighing what each parent brought. Proprietor of the school, Mr. Patrick Mbamara, described the RecyclesPay Educational Project a a welcome initiative.

"It is helping to cushion the financial burden of parents in the school. We have a history of parents finding it difficult to pay each term school fees of N7, 500. “The money from the PET bottles is not much but it balances for what the parents can pay. I and my staff are happy with this initiative. It has improved parents payment of school fees and it teaches the children how to manage their waste and promote a cleaner environment.”

A Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer who went off on rampage, reportedly killed his colleague and an expatriate over non-payment of salary. The NSCDC officer who was identified as just Francis, was reportedly deployed to guard LADOL Free Zone in Lagos and sources revealed the incident occurred on Monday.

The NSCDC officer reportedly killed his colleague on first shot at the SHI-MCI FZE yard, then the expatriate before going after his other colleagues who all managed to escape.

While Francis was apprehended after running out of bullets, the Korean expatriate who was working with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), later died at the Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, on Wednesday.
