Lord of Ajasa, the indigenous rapper who few days ago was reported ill and in need of funds for a Peptic Ulcer surgery, has disclosed that some artistes avoided him when he needed help. 

The rapper who was discharged from the hospital last Tuesday and now waiting for another surgery to remove some stones in his gall bladder, told Punch's correspondent that his doctor had placed him under observation, preparatory to the surgery.

“I would have had the surgery done, but the doctor said we should delay it to enable me rest for a while. I have lost weight and I need to regain my strength.

 “I am very happy that they did this for me. In fact, I am still shocked at their quick response to my condition. I pray that God will remember them in their time of need,” he said.

Lord of Ajasa further disclosed that some successful artistes he had helped to achieve stardom, abandoned him in his hour of need.

“I am surprised that they changed their attitudes toward me. I don’t want to mention names now. They know themselves. Some of them are well known to members of the public.  Although I have done a lot for these people, when I needed help from them, they were nowhere to be found. Some of them even avoided contact with me. I am very disappointed in them. All I can say is that in this music business, some people are ingrates" he said without mentioning names.

Emmanuel Okosi a.k.a Soul E who after his big break into the music scene, relocated from Nigeria to a country in Southern Africa where he remarried and settled down to a new life as a pastor has stated that being a preacher won't make him quit secular music. 

Soul E who now lives in Lesotho, told Punch's correspondent that he found a better place in that country, a better life than what he was used to in Nigeria and had no regret whatsoever.

“God has blessed me abundantly. I have no reason to complain. God exposed me to people who I never believed I could meet. Working for God opens doors for you. In my church in Lesotho, there are Nigerians, Zimbabweans and South Africans. When God calls a man, he fights his battles and He convinces everyone to follow you. We will be two years-old this month as a ministry. We have almost 300 members. The name of the church is The Evidence Church,” he said.

The singer who further stated that being a Pastor won't make him quit secular music, added that he decided to keep quiet when he had issues with his former records label and ex-wife.

“My spiritual life is different from my talent. People always think that once you are doing God’s work, everything that comes out of you must be gospel. My new songs will be inspirational and about love. But my spiritual life is more important to me now than my music career" he said.

“I am not the same Soul E that people used to know. I have grown and it will reflect in my music. When I joined the Nigerian music industry, I didn’t have to do commercial songs. Yet, I became popular.

“But I don’t plan to record the album in Lesotho. I still have my producers in Nigeria and I plan to work with them.”

A 200-Level student identified as Festus Ojomola, has been jailed for one year with hard labour over dating fraud. The suspect who was handed the jail sentence by Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court, sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday, February 14, 2019, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal Office, in May 2018 following intelligence report the Commission received on the activities of some persons alleged to be involved in love scam.

The 200-Level student who was jailed for one year with hard labour, was found in possession of fraudulent documents and engaged in dating fraud.

91 million Nigerians are now living in extreme poverty, as confirmed by World Poverty Clock which reported that at least three million Nigerians slipped into extreme poverty between November 2018 and February 2019.

Recall that while British Prime Minister Theresa May said Nigeria had become home to the largest number of very poor people in the world, putting the figures at 87 million, the  Brookings Institution in June 2018 projected that Nigeria had overtaken India, as the poverty capital of the world, with 86.9 million extremely poor people.

However the new data made available by World Poverty Clock, created by Vienna-based World Data Lab, revealed that 91.16 million Nigerians were living below a dollar a day as of February 13, 2019. As at today, India has 48.7 million people living in poverty, from 73 million in June 2018. This means that India pulled out a minimum of 24 million people from poverty, in less than eight months.

People who live below the poverty line of $1.90 or N693.5 per day, are said to be living in extreme poverty.

Femi Branch who sat for a new chat with Saturday Beats, narrated how his father almost disowned him for becoming an actor. 

According to Femi Branch he got admitted into University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, to study Religious Studies and all his father had in mind was for him to become a lawyer because he loved the profession, His father however got disappointed when he switched to acting. 

He said; 

“It was a serious matter for me at home when I decided to study theatre arts because my father always wanted a lawyer. It was so bad that he had to go back to the University of Ibadan to take a diploma course in law; he really wanted one of his children to become a lawyer but I could not have been bothered.

“For him, it was a disappointment and he almost did not contact me for about two years. Our fight was settled when I did a commercial for MTN. I was not in Lagos and we had not spoken for a long time before that and out of the blue, I got a call from my dad; he was asking me how I was doing. He said that he saw the advertisement and congratulated me on it.

“I called my mother later and she was the one that told me that one of my father’s friends had seen the billboard and called his attention to it. He went there to check. It was not easy but I am thankful for the fact that they were later glad that I took the decision that I did,” he said.

The interesting thing about the work we do is that it is showbiz; it is driven largely by perception. People just look at us, they see the glitz and glamour and believe that we are worth a certain amount of money; let us not even talk about the musicians that exaggerate their net worth. Two female corps members have reportedly fallen victim to an alleged ritualist attack, as they were forced to remove their pants by hoodlums in Ebonyi. 

The incident reportedly occurred at Oshiegbe community, near the boundary between Ohaukwu and Ezza North local government area of Ebonyi State and it was learnt that the female corps members were forced to remove their  clothes including their pants which they handed over to the hoodlums. One of the corps members was said to be on her period also had her blood socked pants and sanitary pads taken away by the hoodlums.

Police spokesperson in the State, Loveth Odah who confirmed the incident said; 

“On 5th of February, 2019, Female corps members reported to Divisional Headquarters in Ohaukwu Local Government Area to report that on their way coming from Ezillo in Ishielu Local Government Area to Abakaliki, a Jeep stopped in front of them and asked them to pay N200 each to be conveyed to Abakaliki. They entered”.

"On reaching 135 Junction, at Ezzamgbo, the men diverted to another direction and told them that they wanted to pick something from a teacher at St. Michael Secondary School, Ezzamgbo.

“When they got to Oshiegbe community, at the boundary area between Ohaukwu and Ezza North Local Government Areas, the driver stopped and came down”.

“He told them that he wanted to ease himself. He immediately went to the back door, opened the door and pointed a gun at them; ordering them to come down and give them all their cloths including their pants.

“They collected their pants and her sanitary pad and drove off. Before driving off, they collected their phones and smashed them on the spot”.

“We also learnt that when they meet women who are not wearing pants, they give them pants and force them to wear them for about five minutes before taking them away from their victims”, Odah said.

The police spokesperson further advised travelers to always go to designated motor parks to board vehicles, to avoid such attacks.

Police IG Adamu Mohammed, has reacted to complaint of  posting Tinubu’s ex-CSO Kayode Egbetokun to Kwara has stated that it purely on merit.

The Police IG who made this clarification on Thursday, February 7, at a one-day summit organised by the Vanguard for Transparent Leadership and Democracy in Abuja, disclosed that posting Tinubu’s ex-CSO  to Kwara had no political undertone.

Adamu who was represented at the event by an assistant commissioner of police, Mogaji Ismaila of the FCT Police Command, said;

“May I appeal to the journalists and the politicians not to drag us into political issues. Posting of commissioners of police is purely the responsibility of the IG in conjunction with the Police Service Commission.

“This recent posting came as a result of the retirement of some commissioners of police and the elevation of some CPs to the rank of assistant inspectors-general of police, and even to the position of deputy inspectors-general of police. 

"You don’t expect the IG to leave states whose commissioners of police were promoted to AIGs and DIGs vacant. Definitely, there is going to be movement and as far as we are concerned, the IGP used experience, competence and other qualities in posting those police officers to the affected states."

A Uniport final year student identified as Rowland Alawari Zeus, drowned while hanging out with his girlfriend yesterday.

Nigerians have reacted to plans by the Cross River State Police to hold a shooting range exercise at Akpabuyo Local Government Area today, near Atiku’s campaign rally in Cross River. 

Sources disclosed that though arrangement about the visit in the state had been on top gear, however the provision of security at the venue, airport and other areas to be visited by PDP presidential candidate was not adequate. The height of the alleged insensibility came, after the State's police announced that it will be holding a  shooting range exercise near Atiku’s campaign rally. 

A large number of police personnel have been moved to Asabanka Shooting Range in Akpabuyo LGA, as confirmed in a statement made available to newsmen by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Irene Ugbo. It reads; 
“The Cross River State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that, officers and men of the Cross River State Police Command, Calabar will embark on shooting practice at Asabanka shooting range in Akpabuyo Local Government Area.

“By this announcement, members of the public, all occupants and farmers of the said environ are advised not to engage in any activity within the area until the exercise is over. This is to avoid being caught by stray bullets please,” the statement added.

Three men who fraudulently carried out transaction on shares of dead people, have been arraigned before a  Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on an eight-count charge bordering on money laundering, conversion and retaining of proceeds to the tune of N34, 000, 000 (Thirty Four Million naira) only.
The suspects identified as Kasumu Ademola, Salau Mikailu and Ganiyu Isola, who were arraigned alongside a stock brokerage firm, CSL Stock Brokers, were arrested after the EFCC received a complaint from Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the three men carried out transaction on the shares of dead people, and also cleared their dividend warrants.

Dividend warrants and share certificates, were reportedly recovered from the suspects who pleaded 'not guilty' to the charges. The case was adjourned till February 8, 2019 by Justice Aneke, who further ordered that the defendants be remanded in prison pending the determination of their bail applications.

Yesterday we reported that the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo's helicopter crashed in Kogi State, and the Caverton group has released a statement revealing why the incident occurred.

Josiah Choms, an executive at Caverton who confirmed the incident which occurred at about 3:00 p.m. in Kabba, Kogi State, said the accident was due to “unusual weather conditions." According to Mr. Choms, there were no injuries to the passengers or crew members as they were all quickly and safely evacuated

“The relevant authorities have been duly informed and an investigation into the incident has commenced. We will, of course, support the authorities as required,” the statement added.

Recall that Laolu Akande, a presidential spokesperson, said 12 people including the minister of state for labour and productivity, Stephen Ocheni, senior presidential aides, security officials were on board the helicopter.

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man who killed his lover’s Dad for demanding N3m compensation for sleeping with her. 

The arrested vulcanizer identified as Atekha Iyare, killed Matthew Idahosa, a 50-year-old palm wine seller, in Oza, Edo State. The bitter issue stemmed for the murder suspect sleeping with his daughter. The man who killed his lover’s Dad for demanding N3m compensation, reportedly fled the village after the deceased used policemen to harass him over his affair with his daughter. 

The Nation reported that the suspect who disclosed that his lover is a student, was shocked that the girl’s father said he would not marry even if he paid the N3m. Speaking to newsmen, he said; 

“I thought the father had forgiven me because I ate rice in their house on Christmas Day. .

The father brought policemen and the matter was being settled. I ran to the bush when the man threatened to kill me if I did not pay the money. They told him to give me his daughter if I paid the money but he said no.

When hunger was too much, I came out and decided to face the consequences. The man saw me while going to the farm and we started fighting. He held a gun while I held a wood.

Controversial Pastor Shepherd Bushiri and wife, Mary have been arrested for  fraud and money laundering. The Enlightened Christian Gathering Church leader and his wife were taken into custody, after armed members of the police stormed the Sparkling Waters Hotel in Rustenburg. The church who released a statement confirming that Pastor Shepherd Bushiri and wife were arrested for fraud and money laundering, said;

"We were later made aware that they were members of the  Hawks. They took the prophet and our mother, Prophetess Mary Bushiri, in handcuffs to Pretoria," the statement said.

"As you will remember, from last year, we have struggled with reports that our father [Bushiri] was guilty. He has been detained and is being questioned by the Hawks in Silverton, Pretoria." 

This came after the South-Africa based Pastor, was accused of sending about R15 million a month to his birth country Malawi through his private jets and cars.

The US embassy who reacted to Onnoghen's suspension, said it had taken note of widespread criticisms that the suspension is illegal. The statement which came few days after the US and UK threatened to impose visa ban on those who interfere with the general election, reads in full; 

“THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES IS DEEPLY CONCERNED BY THE IMPACT OF THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH’S DECISION TO SUSPEND AND REPLACE THE CHIEF JUSTICE AND HEAD OF THE JUDICIAL BRANCH WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH ON THE EVE OF NATIONAL AND STATE ELECTIONS,” THE STATEMENT READ.

“WE NOTE WIDESPREAD NIGERIAN CRITICISM THAT THIS DECISION IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND THAT IT UNDERMINES THE INDEPENDENCE OF THE JUDICIAL BRANCH. THAT UNDERCUTS THE STATED DETERMINATION OF GOVERNMENT, CANDIDATES, AND POLITICAL PARTY LEADERS TO ENSURE THAT THE ELECTIONS PROCEED IN A WAY THAT IS FREE, FAIR, TRANSPARENT, AND PEACEFUL – LEADING TO A CREDIBLE RESULT.

“WE URGE THAT THE ISSUES RAISED BY THIS DECISION BE RESOLVED SWIFTLY AND PEACEFULLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH DUE PROCESS, FULL RESPECT FOR THE RULE OF LAW, AND THE SPIRIT OF THE CONSTITUTION OF NIGERIA. SUCH ACTION IS NEEDED URGENTLY NOW TO ENSURE THAT THIS DECISION DOES NOT CAST A PALL OVER THE ELECTORAL PROCESS.”

Adesua Etomi has also reacted to claim of her husband, Banky W being paid to promote Buhari ahead of the election next month. 

Recall that we reported earlier today that Twitter user @miriamshehu, had claimed that she has a photo of Banky W and his wife, Adesua Etomi travelling to Abuja via Arik Air in December to sign the contract.
