Whyem15: Most points raised by others are true and play key factors but one important thing we all aren't considering is the fact that a soldier will think more than two times before he throws caution away to attack terrorists recklessly whereas the terrorists are actually looking forward to die in battle, they've been indoctrinated to believe a great reward await them on the other side. No one won't flinch when being attacked by waves of terrorist who care more about killing you or die trying than protecting themselves. That is why the terrorists have high casualty rate on their side in any engagement with the Army. If it were to be a conventional military, the result would be entirely different. Another point is that the army is very slow in evolving to meet up with the dynamics of warfare today, they've been trying to catch up lately (super camps, Hescos, and others) but we are too far behind. So many other little things play important roles in the defeat of the army. Take for example, the Army as a whole has lots of bullets but a specific number is assigned to each soldier/unit daily, if you exhaust, they will definitely give you more but the process of requesting for too much time than you can have in battle, so such a soldier/unit will be conscious of the fact that they do not have unlimited bullets and since you are the one defending and do not know when the enemy will stop attacking, you might be economical with the use of your bullets. On the other side, the enemy attacking knows the duration it can attack for, he came prepared and has planned most of what he is going to do, when he exhaust his ammunition, he simply retreats. This is one reason that many soldiers and officers have been lamenting about.. How can I be given example an m60 Machine Gun with only one pack of ammo?? When somebody like me will definitely need like 5 packs to both lay suppressive fire and just Incase of "tactical retreat" |

Kalapizim: On the operational side I will point fingers at our training institutions. Quantity seem to be the goal rather than quality these days.
Same for Depot and NDA, imo the last set of quality officers graduated in 2016.The army especially is a mess with low discipline from the rank and file to even senior officers which points at leadership too. This current system cannot inspire any soldier to fight. Thank you for your opinion |

komekn: Are we ready for that debate are we ready to face hard truths.
We have two main camps here.
The first one is the Nigerian armed forces can do no wring and any criticism is an act of subversion and treason group .
The second is the knowledge based group mostly objective but still critical. Like I said... just drop ur opinion.. nobody will stop you from saying ur mind here |

ugo4u: 1) Most atimes it is as a result of poor situational awareness, Boko guys will collect intels on the numerical strength of our troops, equipments etc and triple that number with high volume fire using unconventional weapons such as AA, SVBIED, RPGs etc and all other weapons that goes against Geneva convention. Again the said base may be in an isolated area with weak defensive setup so atimes it is easier for Boko to engage them for hours since they know backup either from other land forces or the NAF won't come ontime to rescue the situation. This is one of the reasons army super camp was setup and so far it has being a success because many soldiers were pulled out from their outposts to fortify bases but not w/o disadvantage as it has given BH leeway to operate freely in ungoverned areas. 2) It's not necessarily because of that most atimes it could be as a result of faulty equipments such as unserviceable vehicles, tanks etc that will enable them do their job effortlessly and as a soldier if your equipment fails you the only option is to japaa( tactical retreat) so that you will live to fight another day. 3) No matter how poorly trained we feel recruits are, they are better trained than the Insurgents, sometimes the media blow some of these attacks out of proportion and also the military have done a shoddy job in the other part of the war which is Media propaganda. I don't think Bokoharam fighters are trained for more than 3 weeks after which they are shipped like zombies to fight. If you even see some of the videos of their attacks the way they move and fire their weapons if you're a trained eye you will notice that they lack coordination or discipline, they take advantage of numbers, ambushes and suicide attacks to win battles collateral damage isn't their business. Nice explanation. |

Happy Sunday All This is a battle field discussion thread....I will like anybody that has an opinion to comment on this my question. Why do Boko Haram overrun some(remember I said some) Military bases??(some of the bases have enough men to secure them)1) Is it because of Lack of Ammunitions and Equipment: (Remember after successfully overruning the base, the loot weapons and Ammunitions.) 2)Is it because of Lack of Confidence??(Most times we hear of soldiers Neutralizing these attacks). 3) Is it based on their training?? (Somebody once said here that Depot graduates 4000+ recuits at once. Is it that during training their are not taught how to coordinate and return effective fire during attacks?? Gentlemen let us debate |

Tobiloba2407: First question, what type of gun were the robbers using? He isnt sbs, since the start of this insurgency navy basic training has placed higher emphasis on field crafts and tactics, an average navy sailor has basic infantry training, unless the standard has dropped again within the last 3 years. bidexiii: MEET THE NIGERIAN NAVY PERSONNEL WHO GUNNED DOWN FIVE ARMED ROBBERS IN CALABAR
Mohammed Mubarak is a sea man, a gallant marksman and a skillful Navy Personnel. His display during the encounter with armed men that attacked Uddy King Filling Station in Calabar some time ago has gained him recognitions and awards.
He recently received a Gold Medal award from the Eastern Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy in Calabar for displaying such gallantry and bravery act in bringing down the bandits.
Mubarak was said to have returned fire in the defence of himself and passerby and his courage and marksmanship even in the adverse conditions led to the killing of the 5-man gang and seizure of their weapons.
The Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, who presented him with the Gold Medal Award, said the Gold Medal Award is for any personnel that distinguish themselves for bravery and gallantry.
If the Nigerian Navy or other Security agencies in the country can have skillful, gallant men like Mubarak, robbery and other criminal activities would reduce and peace returned to the country.
The issue of Robbery, Kidnapping and Killing has become a usual activity in the Country as the security system is porous, posing threat and fear in the minds of Nigerians as no one knows who could be the next victim This guy might be a member of SBS |

blacKDalia: Who told you that? A standard Humvee will not stop any kind of projectile. It is no different in that respect to a civilian SUV.
An up-armored Humvee can stop essentially all pistol rounds, and most common rifle rounds (7.62x39mm, 5.45x39mm, 7.62x54mmR, 7.62x51mm NATO). It will NOT stop a .50 caliber round, nor will it protect against anti-tank weapons or IEDs. So if I understand you properly, you prefer A Hilux, maybe since Humvee can't stop .50caliber, I believe your Hilux can stop AA Guns as well as even 105mm Round |

Toju200: I still don't get something. Where are all these terrorists emerging from. Despite the Airstrikes conducted against them which visibly we see proofs The recent operations which again we saw proofs of success
These guys still comes out kidnap people unluckily service men fell victim And they into hiding Question is where NAF has been conducting intense ISR operations We should just rotate troops in the NE deploy fresh ones including a unit of AFSF
On my birthday it was two service men death day so sad... How many terrorists are killed as a result of the airstrike They are more to these than just airstrike. Boots on the ground is more beneficial than Airstrike. Facts: 1) Isreal used cluster bomb on Hezbollah secured caves and there was little/no positive result. 2) Check the time Navy seals were pinned down on a mountain top by Terrorists dugged in a cave, they used airstrikes still, nothing..then ended up losing men(special forces including Rangers sent to their rescue). The men on ground had to destroy the dugged in position. #Bootsongroundmatters. Happy birthday in arrears. |

Whyem15: Amnesty international is starting to shout human rights abuse by Nigerian soldiers again. Those people sure know how lobby US politicians to get what they want. For the sake of discussion, let's assume Trump doesn't win the elections in November, will Biden continue the tucano transfer to Nigeria? A lot will happen between now and 2021 and placing all our hopes on the tucanos might be very dangerous. Can he stop what we have already paid for?? Will they pay us back? |

kabe1: Not everything is corruption.
No amount of corruption can cover up a lack of money.
It costs $30,000 to fully kit 1 American soldier every year.
Comparing the Nigerian army to America is dumb to be honest. We are not asking NA to fully kit our soldiers like US soldiers, we are only asking them to give them basic kitting. I don't think NAF and NN use the same $30,000 to also kit their personnel especially NAF(I don't mean Panthers or the Regiment guys). We can go for local production which is more cheaper. |
