NAAKISS Parliament Gives Comr. Aniedi Michael 14 Days to Declare Action for Peaceful Protest

... Accuses executive of romancing with Govt. to press students rights


The National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS) Worldwide Parliament has given the Worldwide President of the Association, Snr. Comr Aniedi Michael 14 days to declare a national day of action for peaceful demonstration that will press home the 10 points charter of demands the Association made from Government.

The Parliament in a statement made on Wednesday after plenary and signed by its Speaker, Rt. Hon. Godwin Okponung and Clark, Comr. Ukana Martins urged the President to mobilize members across the World, Sister Student Groups, Unions and Civil Society Organisations for peaceful demonstration.

"We mandate the worldwide Executive Council of NAAKISS under President Aniedi Michael to, within 14 days declare a national holiday of action and mobilize our members across the world and sister student groups/union and civil society partners for peaceful demonstration to press home the 10 points Charter of demands of NAAKISS Worldwide".

According to the statement, the Parliament said that the Executive collaborative silence and induced inaction is a clear indication of romance between the President and the State Government which has suppressed the 10 points charter of demands of the Association made to Government for the benefit of the students.

The Parliament insisted that if the President, Comr. Michael and members of his executive refused to effect the resolution for the peaceful demonstration on or before Wednesday August 11, 2021, the Parliament shall move to remove the entire executive to sustain the peaceful demonstration until the demands of the association are given.

The statement advised the president to liaise and partner with chapter Presidents and other sister student groups, associations and other pro-education activist organisations for effective mobilization and coordination for the peaceful demonstrations.

They called on security agencies and law enforcement organisations to grant maximum cooperation that will protect the peaceful demonstration from hoodlums, evil merchants and mischief makers from hijacking the demonstration for stealing and violence.

The statement however assured students the parliament's commitments for their better welfare packages, promising to act in accordance with the relevance laws that will not jeopardize national security and public safety.

"Finally, we assure all Students of Akwa Ibom State origin that we shall not be deterred in pushing this struggle for better welfare packages, as we call on all Comrades to keep faith and be resolute while expecting further communication in the next few days."
