The president Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke has denied calling state universities “quacks”. Recall the ASUU president made the assertion while appearing on Arise Television on Friday. His words; “Yobe, go and check, just like Kaduna university, what’s happening there? Please don’t set those examples (referring to those resuming lectures), they’re irrelevant. “Talk about the issues. Is Ibadan on strike? Is UNN on strike? Is ABU on strike? Is BUK on strike? Is Maiduguri and Lagos on strike? “Talk about important universities not those quacks. They’re not part of our strike. Set the ones that are members of our strike.” But while reacting on Channels TV’s Politics Today, monitored by Quest Times on Tuesday, Prof Osodeke blamed the media for misquoting him adding that he never called state universities “quacks”. “What I said was very clear. The person on the seat asked me a question that your members in three universities have abandoned you and I gave them that LASU, we have a problem with them and because the universities sacked all the leaders of ASUU in the branch. “That’s why they are not on strike; that in KWASU they are not even our members yet and they are not meeting the standard and that in Osun they were punished for breaking our strike and they are all part of the problem. “That’s exactly what I said and therefore our union there is not running well. That’s why I used that word, they are not running well. That the universities are not allowing our union to run well. I didn’t say state universities. Then I mentioned three again; Ekiti State University, Kaduna State University and Yobe State University. “In those universities, although the management and the government have forced universities to announce resumption, our members said they are not teaching. “That’s what I said at those three universities, but I’m surprised that they are busy writing all sorts of things. That’s exactly the word I used,” he said. https://www.thequesttimes.com/ASUU-president-denies-calling-state-universities-quacks/

Isaac Fayose, the younger brother to former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has promised to donate between N20 to N40 million to support the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi. Earlier, Isaac said Peter Obi would need N50 billion to win the 2023 election. “Out of all the candidates, Obi is the most popular. If we vote today on social media, he will win. But an election is structure-based. So, Obi will need N50 billion to be able to make that government a reality. Fifty billion, yes, Obi will win. “Remember, Tinubu is a little bit popular too. He has what they call structure. The structure alone is worth fifty billion. “He has what they call goodwill. They call him ‘The City Boy’. So ‘where him money no fit reach, him structure go reach, where him structure no fit reach, him popularity go reach. “Obi, with fifty billion, will manage to buy his own army to defeat Tinubu,” Isaac Fayose had said in a video clip dated August 16. In a latest development, Isaac Fayose said he is ready to support Peter Obi and also urged other well-meaning Nigerians to do the same. “If we truly love obi, we have to be thinking of how to donate when the time comes. “As for me, I will be donating between N20 to N40 million. I’m sure many of us we support. Whether they like it or not, Obi is coming. We will vote Obi and Atiku will go back to Dubai,” he said in a video obtained by Quest Times on Wednesday. https://www.thequesttimes.com/2023-fayose-pledges-n40-million-for-peter-obis-presidency/

The All Progressive Congress, APC, Vice Presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima got Nigerians talking on social media since his 'Oyinbo outfit' went viral. Shettima just like every other candidate contesting for the 2023 presidential election was invited by the Nigerian Bar Association for its conference held at Eko Atlantic Hotel, Lagos. But guess what? The 'political encyclopedia' as fondly called by his admirers to the amazement of Nigerians showcase a comic relief with his 'coat of many colours'. Like the Biblical Joseph whose was the favourite of his father, Shettima is now trying every antic in his disposal to endear himself to the Nigerian populace against his candidature. Of course, it's glaring how the Muslim-Muslim ticket proponents are trying as much as they can to sell their candidate to Nigerians, especially Christian electorates among other eminent members of the public who are against this school of thought. But how can a new wine put in an old bottle appeal to the sensibility of the buyers? There is more work to be done on the part of the campaigners to convince millions of Nigerians that would rather embrace justice and fairness than buying into the idea of ethnic politics or religious bigotry. 2023 is beyond coat of many colours o! ©Table Shaker

Nigeria’s Falconets have crashed out of the U-20 Women’s World Cup after losing 0-2 to the Netherlands in the Quartre Finals. Nigeria was denied opportunity to have a consolation goal in the last minutes to the end of the game after the VAR ruled out a potential penalty. The Nigerian girls were all hungry for goal but were unlucky as all efforts to break through the Netherland’s defence met rebuff courtesy of the brilliant goalkeeping skills of their opponent’s goalie, Lisan Alfra. https://www.thequesttimes.com/breaking-nigeria-crashes-out-of-u-20-womens-world-cup-after-0-2-loss-to-netherlands/

Hello, Nairalanders I thought of sharing this open letter with you. Kindly go through the letter and drop your comments below. Dear Mr Governor, It's a great honour to write you this letter and I must commend your transformational leadership and unwavering commitment and determination to bring the Greater Lagos vision to reality. As the CSO of Lagos, you must take responsibility for the success and the same goes for the failures of the State, hence, the reason for this letter. Sir, your idea and vision to tackle insecurity in the State have been lauded by Lagosians who believe there is a need to revamp the ailing system that accommodates excesses that should no longer see the light of the day. Of course, security is a sine qua non to our continued existence as residents of this mega city and we must embrace every policy aimed at protecting the livelihood of the citizenry. Your administration in a bid to curb the menace of Okada riders in the State placed a ban on the operations of commercial motorcyclists in six (6) Local Government Areas of the State in June, and by extension added four (4) more Local Councils on Thursday, August 18, as you rightly put: "in the best interest of residents and for security reasons". For some, this is a welcome development while others are of a contrary opinion due to reasons best known to them. Your Excellency, it is true and logically right to say you are solely responsible for the decisions you take over time, and as citizens, we can only agree or disagree with them. However, it is pertinent as a concerned citizen to call your attention to some of these fundamental questions that ought to be answered before considering a total ban on the operations of these riders who more often than not took to the job following the failures of the government to provide them alternative means of livelihood. The questions are as follows: How sustainable or effective will the ban be? What alternative provision is it making to ameliorate the expected suffering of commuters who live in places where there is no access to commercial vehicles? What will happen to the large army of Okada riders displaced? Is the government going to provide alternative means of livelihoods for the displaced riders? What mechanisms are in place to counter the challenges that this ban may pose? Sir, it will be essential for every Lagosian to have answers to the aforementioned if the policy will be considered truly "in their best interest" and not seen as "anti-people". You must rejig your policies to accommodate some or probably all of these concerns raised, especially at this dire time when Nigeria is experiencing an economic downturn coupled with the myriad challenges bedevilling the country. Going forward, the government must be ready to double its effort in the transportation sector as this is integral to the success of any administration in Lagos. Transportation should be prioritised so the citizens will feel the impact positively and not vice-versa. Sir, what are your plans to revitalise the rail means of transportation that have been neglected over the years? Don't you think it is high time Lagosians had a multi-faceted transport system that is visible and sustainable? There is a need to consider all of these foxes that seem as impediments to the Greater Lagos vision that you're aiming at. Eko o ni baje! Nigerians have reacted differently to how Pastor Blessed, the husband of a popular music minister, Mercy Chinwo, was pictured shaking hands with singer Bankole Wellington, also known as Banky W. The celebrity pastor’s traditional wedding party was held in PortHarcourt, the Rivers State capital, a few days ago, with a lot of entertainment industry bigwigs gracing the event. Following the virality of a picture of Pastor Blessed bizarrely shaking hands with Banky W, the pair have been tagged by Nigerians who find the handshake suspicious. Quest Times findings however reveals the origin of the handshake. Anchor This pattern of handshake is common among members of Vikings who are popularly called Aromate. The confraternity was formed by three men, namely Aro Rising Angel, Aro Eric de Red, Aro Red Devils. They serve a god known as Odin (one eye god) sometimes called “Febibeso”. The “Anchor” mode of greeting is done with five fingers spread out and placed at the end of the other person’s finger. The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Bola Tinubu, has once again made headlines, but this time for an old video that reemerged on social media. The old clip from nine years ago made the rounds online, stirring reactions from Tinubu’s critics. In the trending video, Bola Tinubu was seen mocking former President Goodluck Jonathan on the appointment of his party’s 83-year-old BoT, Tony Anenih (of blessed memory) as Nigeria Ports Authority Chairman. The Vice Presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has called on the authorities to expedite action aimed at paving the way for Nigerians living abroad to participate in the electoral process of the country come 2023. Manchester United have been humiliated in West London despite recalling Cristiano Ronaldo to the starting line-up. David de Gea let Josh DaSilva’s shot slip straight through his hands to get the Bees off the mark early on as Ronaldo appealed in vain for a foul. Christian Eriksen then lost the ball against his former club to give Mathias Jensen a simple tap in. Brentford net their third after Ben Mee outjumped Lisandro Martinez to head in from close range. Then Bryan Mbeumo slid past De Gea to finish off a brilliant counter-attack which gave the Bees their fourth goal. This second time the Red Devils will losing in the season. The standard-bearer of the All progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has been under fire in recent times over an old newspaper publication in which he was quoted as saying: ‘I don’t believe in one Nigeria’. This has generated a lot of reactions on social media, with many wondering how an individual who does not believe in one Nigeria would want to be its President. The copy of an old newspaper where he (Tinubu) made the statement has been circulating on WhatsApp and other social networking sites since the former governor declared his intention to run for president in 2023. However, some ardent disciples of the APC flag-bearer claim that their principal never made the statement credited to him on social media, hence, the reason for this fact-check piece. VERIFICATION Several checks on previous statements made by Bola Tinubu show that the former Lagos governor made the statement. This reporter, in an attempt to inform the enlightened public and clear the air, got hold of an old copy of the publication wherein the APC chieftain made the statement. The publication was dated Sunday, April 13, 1997, and was an edition of ThisDay newspaper as published by the Financial Times News Syndicate. Findings reveal that Tinubu made the statement in an interview with ThisDay’s reporter Ayo Arowolo in his London home. CONCLUSION There is evidence that Tinubu did say: “I don’t believe in one Nigeria.” https://www.thequesttimes.com/did-tinubu-ever-say-he-did-not-believe-in-one-nigeria/

Nwachukwu Chiemerie kickstarted the gold performances when she broke a new record that earned her a Gold medal in Discus. During a recent Arise TV programme titled “The Morning Show” hosted by Dr Reuben Abati, Ms Tundun Abiola and Mr Rufai Oseni, former All Progressives Congress Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, claimed that the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo currently chairs the Federal Government’s Economic Management Team. While answering a question posed by Ms Abiola, (what approach will the Tinubu campaign take since he will be running on the platform of the APC that has been in power for the past 7 years. Under his watch as the national leader of the APC, all the blames and the credits will be apportioned to him. Will the campaign be run on continuity or a departure from the last 7 years?), Oshiomhole noted that “…in apportioning blame to people, you have to look at their roles. “It is a fact that Asiwaju by himself said he cofounded APC, but he never participated in governance, never held any position in government, he didn’t carry out any contract on behalf of government, so how can you credit him? You can’t credit him either way. “This is just being fair. It is not like the Vice President who announced that he has been given the responsibility by the President to chair the economic team. Not just the Economic Council that is in the constitution, but a special team put together by government and he chairs it. “So, you can ask him to account for some economic policies. You can’t say someone who never in any way participated in government to be credited with the outcome of government policy or be blamed either way.”- Oshiomhole However is this claim that Osinbajo is the head of the Economic team accurate? Available public records indicate that the former Edo governor’s claim is inaccurate as the Economic Management Team of the Buhari administration headed by the VP in the first term had been dissolved since September 16, 2019. The EMT was set up in 2016 by the President to coordinate the Federal Government’s economic policies with the VP as the chair before it was dissolved. The team was dissolved in 2019 and replaced with the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC) with Dr Doyin Salami as the chairman. Below is the full membership of the PEAC. According to a statement by the presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, President Buhari appointed the following experts: Prof. Doyin Salami – Chairman Dr Mohammed Sagagi – Vice-Chairman Prof. Ode Ojowu – Member Dr Shehu Yahaya – Member Dr Iyabo Masha – Member Prof. Chukwuma Soludo – Member Mr Bismark Rewane – Member Dr Mohammed Adaya Salisu – Secretary (Senior Special Assistant to the President, Development Policy) The statement by Mr Adesina added that, “This advisory council will replace the current Economic Management Team (EMT) and will be reporting directly to the President. “The Economic Advisory Council (EAC) will advise the President on economic policy matters, including fiscal analysis, economic growth and a range of internal and global economic issues working with the relevant cabinet members and heads of monetary and fiscal agencies. “The EAC will have monthly technical sessions as well as scheduled quarterly meetings with the President. The Chairman may, however, request for unscheduled meetings if the need arises.” Following the composition of the team, on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja administered oaths of office on members of the PEAC, and also set an agenda of what they should accomplish in the shortest possible time. Prior to the inauguration of PEAC, the Vice President headed the administration’s EMT, but ceased heading the group effective Sept 16, 2019. He only chairs the National Economic Council, which only has advisory responsibilities according to the Nigerian Constitution. The National Economic Council (NEC) was established by the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended; Section 153(1) and Paragraphs 18 & 19 of Part I of the Third Schedule. The National Economic Council was inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari on 29 June 2015. Chaired by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, the NEC, which meets monthly, has the mandate to “advise the President concerning the economic affairs of the Federation, and in particular on measures necessary for the coordination of the economic planning efforts or economic programmes of the various Governments of the Federation.” Membership of the NEC comprises of the 36 State Governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other co-opted Government officials. From the foregoing, the Vice President cannot be questioned for issues in the economy on account of his headship of the administration’s EMT, as alluded to by Adams Oshiomole, except possibly for the first term. Even then, the executive powers in the Nigerian Constitution is exclusively vested in the President. Currently, the chair of the PEAC, Dr Doyin Salami is now the President’s Chief Economic Adviser. According to the statement dated Jan 4, 2022, announcing his appointment, Dr Salami who is the Chairman of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), is expected to address all issues on the domestic economy and present views on them to the president. https://www.thequesttimes.com/fact-check-is-vp-osinbajo-the-head-fgs-economic-management-tea/

General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministry (OPM) Port-Harcourt, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, has described the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi as the biblical Moses, who will rescue Nigeria. The cleric, who drummed support for Obi’s candidacy, said he will be giving a further explanation on why Obi is the Moses sent to Nigeria by God. “I Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere OPM thank you all for your nomination and massive votes currently going on. “I am stepping down from the award of MAN OF THE YEAR and let all those that have voted for me transfer their votes to His Excellency Peter obi. “He is the best man for man of the year, not me or any other person. “He is the Moses that has been sent to rescue Nigeria. I now begin to suspect Seun and his cohorts working tirelessly to promote Emi lokan agenda if not they won't be giving prominence to pro-Tinubu stories while sponsoring anti-Obi stories on the FP. Time will surely tell! |
My dear presidential candidate, it is expedient I write to you, especially at this time when Nigerians are in dire need of a leader who can unify the country and restore the hope of the masses. Since your emergence as the Labour Party standard-bearer, there has been a reawakening and re-conscientisation of the minds of Nigerians, especially the young people, from the primitive ‘insult-based politics’ to ‘issue-based politics’. However, it is a fact that “Nigerians now vote personality and not party” but it is undeniable to say a party is sacrosanct in winning a presidential race, hence, the essence of writing this open letter. Your excellency, you must re-strategise your campaign to accommodate what can be best described as “party-branding” rather than just focusing on the product (ObiDatt). To succinctly put, it is difficult to sell a brand like Labour Party in the eyes of an average Nigerian who over time is used to the likes of PDP and APC as household names in Nigeria’s political landscape. Hence, a party must be built alongside its candidates and should not leave one for the other. Sir, you must rejig your strategies to sell the project (Labour Party) if you must win come 2023, as this will also help to get more people onboard and support the movement for a better Nigeria. The party as an entity is more supreme than a candidate who is just a part of the whole. Thus, more effort should be put into branding rather than just selling the “ObiDatt” as a product in 2023. Sincerely sir, Labour Party needs visibility, and your publicity must be refocused to ensure that all Nigerians identify with the party going forward. Sir, another area I would like to draw your attention to is the fact that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as an unbiased umpire, would not include the photographs of candidates in the ballot papers as rightly suggested owing to its guidelines and modus operandi, hence, the need to sell the Labour Party brand, which of course, will be impressed on the ballot. For the Labour Party to win as a third-force party in 2023, your campaign strategies should be refocused on the party side-by-side the candidacy. The strategy should be “party first before candidacy”. An electorate will only see the Labour Party logo on the ballot papers and it is practically impossible to vote for Peter Obi if such a voter doesn’t know the Labour Party as the platform. Finally, having a structure as opined is necessary to achieve a paradigm shift in the face of the 2023 general election and that must start with the brand visibility of the Labour Party. With all the aforementioned put into consideration, I see the possibility of Labour Party taking over the mantle of leadership come 2023. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/07/open-letter-to-peter-obi

Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina has claimed that most Nigerians still believe the current administration is doing its best on security matters. Femi Adesina disclosed this on Wednesday during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today monitored by Quest Times. Responding to a question on the failure of the APC-led government to nip the insecurity in the country in the bud, Adesina said, “Well… they (Buhari’s critics) who have described it (Nigeria’s security) as a failure have right to their opinion, it doesn’t make them right”. He continued; “There are millions of Nigerians who still believe that the government has done and doing its level-based on this matter of insecurity. “Yes, the party (APC) promised it will secure the country, and listen to the president anytime he talks about his three priorities for Nigeria right from the first term to the second term and now to 10 months to the end of his administration; to secure the country, revive the economy, and fight corruption. These three still remain his topmost priorities. “If you want to assess a government, you do that by assessing what it has promised to do and how far it has gone in achieving those promises. “The current security is not the same way as it was inherited (from PDP). There was improvement in the situation of security in the first year. “In fact, the insurgency in the country which was the main problem was beaten up to the point that it was said that Boko Haram in Nigeria was “technically degraded”. “But you see that later there was a resurgence. This was the main problem in 2015. Later banditry, kidnappings, and cult killings joined. It became hard! “And so, you don’t begin to say government has failed for a problem that suddenly went out of control. Security is a challenge. Anything can still happen before the end of this administration. You don’t begin to conclude that he (Buhari) has failed on security when is time is not up yet”. https://www.thequesttimes.com/nigerians-still-believe-buhari-is-doing-well-on-security-adesina/
