Cutezt:
I initially thought about that, but I also said to myself that the mistake was from me, and it will be somehow to restrict his account for something he has no idea about. If I had contacted him and he refused to refund, that definitely would be my next line of action, but the banks refusal to help out puts me in a difficult situation. I may have to get that court order and restrict his account for something he has no idea about.

UPDATE

I got an affidavit, now i am looking to submit it to a GT bank branch.
Don't feel bad about doing the needful to retrieve your funds. You're not being wicked but proactive. Subsequently, have your clients call out their details and run it by them again just to be double sure.

I dont deny all this. I am just pointing out that a very studious person of average intelligence can bag it. I am no stranger to law my dear. I am a lawyer 23 years at the bar and in my set I was close friends with some "first class" students, okay? I understand perfectly well what Iam saying.

Conversely I also know some genuiuses who simply didnt give a hoot about their studies and barely scraped a pass. And their ingenuity still remained - and showed in life.
Alright then!

A 1st class does not necessarily mean the holder is an intellectual paragon. It very often means he is introverted and extremely studious, detailed and careful.
What does intelligence mean to you? I'm certain your answer may circumnavigate around learning and applying one's knowledge.

Apparently, you think bagging a cgpa of 5.0 in the Nigerian law school is a walk in the park. It takes far morethan being introverted, studious, and all those qualities you cited. Being a critical thinker, a problem solver, creative, an avid listener and analytical is more like it and these don't even cut it entirely. Now, can one be all of these things and not be considered intelligent?

Achieving a perfect CGPA in the Nigerian Law School requires more than just being introverted and studious. It demands a deep understanding of complex legal concepts, analytical thinking, and the ability to apply knowledge in practical contexts. Just about anybody can read/cram to pass exams, but only an intelligent person can make a total delivery of practical-based courses in civil litigation, corporate laws, ethics and profession, property law and so on and deliver a perfect cgpa of 5.0.

Give the youngster his flowers!

PropertiesRe: Landlord Sold House Before My Rent Expired by Juliearth(f): 8:58am On Jul 15, 2025

The purchase/sales of the property must have been completed with the status of the property in sight.

In buying the property, the contract should state the tenancy status of all occupants. The buyer should have that information at the point of sale while the seller has the right to disclose such.

In one word, you stay was part of the sales terms and the new owner does.not have the legal powers to displace you.

I am not a lawyer and do encourage you get one.
Did you read the part where he said, a part of his rent was refunded and a quit notice issued?
PropertiesRe: Landlord Sold House Before My Rent Expired by Juliearth(f): 8:56am On Jul 15, 2025
Cheny00:
Hello Nairalanders,

I need your advice urgently.

I rented a self-contained apartment in Lagos, and my rent is valid until the end of October this year. Just recently, I was informed that the landlord has sold the house.

Now here’s what happened:
• They refunded half of my rent (without my prior agreement),
• And issued me a 3-month notice to vacate.

I never agreed to terminate my tenancy early or to receive a refund — they just gave me the money and served the notice. I feel like I’m being indirectly forced out before the agreed expiration date of my rent.

Please, I want to know:
1. Is this legal under Lagos tenancy law?
2. Can they harass or pressure me out of the house since it’s now sold?
3. What steps can I take if I want to stay until my rent expires in October?

I’ve heard that once rent is paid and acknowledged, even a new landlord must honour the agreement. Is this true?

Please, lawyers and those familiar with Lagos tenancy law, I’d appreciate your input. I don’t want to be bullied or treated unfairly and also 3 months is too short for me

Thanks in advance!
The house is your landlord's personal belonging and he has the right to do as he pleases and that includes selling. You were refunded a part of your rent, which you accepted. This action has crippled every legal rights and backing you have towards that house. The best you can do is to plead for time extension.

FamilyRe: What No One Told Me About Marriage That You Should Know by Juliearth(f): 9:39am On Jul 13, 2025
SyrusdeHansome:
Nice advice but everything you listed up there depends on how wealthy or rich a person is before getting married.
It is not necessarily so. All it takes is proper planning. You preempt an expense and plan for it before it suffices. For instance you could dedicstr two months' income to shop for the year. To ease things up further, couples most times set up a savings plan for their children even before they are born. That serves as a reservoir of resources that could cover the kids' expenses.
FamilyRe: What No One Told Me About Marriage That You Should Know by Juliearth(f): 9:37am On Jul 13, 2025
giftson102:
This is for those planning to marry or those who just got married.
If you are open-minded, you can still read.
Nobody knows it all.

1. Immediately you get married, even before having a baby, go and register your family for health insurance.
NHIS is one of the common ones and the most available in hospitals.
It will save you a lot.
There are some things the rich won’t tell you.
With NHIS, you can walk into any hospital and get treated cheap depending on the package.
A friend of mine once did an operation and all he paid was ₦10k something that would have cost ₦400k.

2. Have a family doctor very very important.
See, no church will tell you this.
Even if you don’t have money for a family doctor, have someone you can call in case of emergency.
Especially a pediatrician when you start having kids.

3. Also, have a family lawyer.
Recently, our family lawyer saved us over ₦500k in rent that I wanted to forfeit.
But because she stepped in and did her job, money was refunded seamlessly.

4. If you can afford it, have at least one domestic staff.
Someone that can at least help ease the work in the house for you and madam.
My brother, ejiro kwa afufu anya isi.
Get help if you can.

5. Buy things in bulk.
The reason I live like a wealthy man today is because I buy everything I need down to toothpaste in bulk.
You spend more buying in bits than when you buy in bulk.
That’s one of the reasons I created my sharing platform to enable family men and women with common goals.
There is nothing we don’t share. Some of you reading this are in that group.

6. Pay your children’s school fees before school resumes.
As I’m talking to you now, I’ve already sent SGM the kids’ school fees that’ll be paid in September.
I don’t have to worry about it again.
It helps me plan myself.
Do everything possible to pay school fees before resumption. You won’t know what you’re doing until money goes on leave from your side.

7. Strive to have passive income.
Something that can generate at least ₦3-5k every day.
No matter what try and get something like that.
It will save you from a lot of stress.

8. See the friends and circle your kids will have tomorrow everything depends on the school they attend.
This one is very, very important.
Even if you don’t have money, find a way to send your children to one of the best schools.
You won’t realise what you’re doing until they come of age.

9.I learnt this one from my dad always have family meetings.
You, your wife, and your kids no matter how small they are.
Discuss problems, solutions, and way forward.
Allow the kids air their opinions.

Ask the kids:
🔹Is there something mummy and daddy are doing that they don’t like?

Same thing with your wife.
Talk about what you both can do to have a stable and loving family.
This helps in uniting the family.

Every month is fine or even every 6 months.
Just make it a habit and a culture.
It’ll become a memory that sticks for the kids, and for you and madam too.

Everyone’s opinion in the family matters.
And as the man, it’s your job to hear everybody’s opinion and choose the best way to run the family.

This isn’t just for the man alone madam can initiate it too. There’s no perfect formula, yes. But this one I listed? It works every time.
I repeat if you try it, you’ll save yourself a lot of unnecessary headache and stress.
You can add yours
Good morning and enjoy your weekend.
These points are valid and very practical. Good job!

I share the same toilet with my younger sibling (me and him only). This guy spend close to 1 hour in the toilet (not bathing).

Small time, what you hear is sound of a social media video playing.

It's as if, whenever he feels like enjoying online short videos mostly, he goes into the toilet.

To me though, it's a very disgusting habit. I have talked to him severally about it but it seems, the pleasure overwhelmes the warning.

How many of us have this habit?

Attached pix is for illustration.
That doesn't sound good at all. The toilet is a breeding ground for germs. Also, I wonder how a space meant for waste and dirt disposal would be a safe haven for your brother.

Anyways, whilst you are trying to talk him out of it, do well to ensure that the bathroom is washed and disinfected thoroughly on a daily basis.

FamilyRe: Parents How Much Do You Give Your Kids As Pocket Money To Take To School? by Juliearth(f): 11:19am On Jul 05, 2025
Nazgul:
There's this aunty of mine who told me she gives her 3 kids 4k each every day to take to school. I told her it's too much. Meaning she'll be spending about 12k every day for the whole term. This is minus school fees and other fees private school usually demands from their students.

When I suggested to her that giving them food from home to take to school would be more economical for her, she told me they're in secondary school so it's going to look odd. That it's only nursery and primary school students who carry food to school.

I told her that more than 65% of working class 9am-5pm Nigerians now carry food from home to work which they microwave and eat because of how expensive food has become. And they're not shy. How much more secondary school students.

So I want to throw this question to the mummies and daddies in the house, how much do you give your teenage kids in secondary school as pocket money.

I understand that things are so expensive these days. Oridinary meatpie I used to buy N200 around 2022 is now 1k. Donuts of 50-N100 is now 500-800. Plastic soda is 500. So is 4k too much for a teenager to take to school, or would you prefer they just eat to their satisfaction at home before going to school?

Cc Mynd44,
Nlfpmod,
dominique.
That amount can be channelled into prepping a decent and healthy meal as well as a snack that can serve for morethan a day. Asides the economics of scale, the children would not be exposed to food poisoning and the likes.

[quote author=Ourtruth247 post=135991859]Operation Highjump

Operation Highjump was one of the largest military expeditions in U.S. history, launched just months after World War II. Led by Admiral Richard E. Byrd in 1946–47, it sent over 4,000 troops, 13 ships, and dozens of planes to Antarctica not for war, but supposedly for training and exploration.

But why send such a massive military force just to “test equipment” on ice? The scale of the operation doesn’t match the official story. And even stranger, it was suddenly cut short months earlier than planned. Why would a peaceful mission end so abruptly unless something unexpected happened?

According to reports and interviews, Admiral Byrd made some shocking statements. In a 1947 Chilean newspaper, he reportedly warned that America should prepare for the possibility of "enemy aircraft coming from the polar regions that could fly from pole to pole at incredible speeds." That’s not something you say after a simple mapping trip.

If true, Byrd was talking about advanced technology far beyond anything known at the time. Could he have encountered aircraft or beings not from this world? Or perhaps from a civilization hidden deep within or beyond Antarctica?

Many believe Operation Highjump wasn’t just about ice; it was about investigating what was really at the edge of the Earth. The sudden silence afterward, the lack of public footage, and the tight restrictions that followed on Antarctic travel raise serious questions. If Admiral Byrd truly saw what he hinted at; unknown flying craft, unusual land, or contact with something advanced; then it’s possible we’re being kept in the dark. It suggests there may be other civilizations hidden in or beyond Antarctica that governments aren’t ready to reveal.
[/quote

You are absolutely spot on. Beyond the ice walls of antarctica are ancients civilizations and wormholes to other dimensions.

If I am not mistaking, the tomorrow war, a Hollywood movie, details the possibility of an alien attack from Antarctica in the future. The movie details that these aliens are already here and are hibernating beneath the ice at antarctica. Once the ice thaws away (climate change activities), they would come to surface and wipe out humanity. This sort of explains why Operation High jump is in place... to prepare for that day.

You are not seeing things from my point of view. If an account is placed on lien and a fraudulent withdrawal occurs on the account. The only suspect(s) would be the bank staff members, he certainly a powerful lawsuit can be launched against them for such unruliness... LOL!

The chances of you recovering that money may be quite low.

Moving forward, since this bank is close to your work place, place a lien on the account. This action would disable every Mobile app operation, USSD operation and ATM operation. This means that the account can accept money from every channel, but you can only withdraw over the counter. If this action was in place from ab initio, you would have had a good case and sued their ****** for 100 billion.

These Images May Be Disturbing — But Please Read This.

Some crimes are wrong. No doubt. But what happens when the punishment becomes worse than the crime?

In Nigeria today, there are people who stole a TV set, a bag of rice, or even just a phone, and they’ve been locked in prison for 5 to 7 years — without trial. Not for murder. Not for kidnapping. But for petty theft — often out of hunger, or desperation.

We’re not saying stealing is right. We’re saying this system is broken.

Many of these prisoners are forgotten, living in terrible conditions. Some are innocent but can’t afford a lawyer. Some are youths, locked up at 18 — now turning 25 inside cells meant to hold 30 but packed with 200.

This is not justice. This is suffering.
Need I also add that some of these prisoners are arrested individuals that have not been tried and found guilty. Some are there courtesy of some power-drunk individuals exercising their inhumane rights. Some are there based on false accusations, being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I’ve tried sticky notes, reminders, calendar apps… but nothing sticks. I just want something simple that helps me stay on track — especially while I’m working in Chrome all day.

Does anyone else feel like they’re constantly behind because they just can’t keep track of everything?
Looks like you are having a tough time at being organised.

You should set up an electronic journal for your daily tasks and a time frame for fulfilling them. Stick to it religiously. Set it such that you would get prompts once a task is due to commence and reminders.. Todoist, Trello, calendar app and so on are good examples .

You need to prioritise your tasks and jettison what's not necessary.

Have a peak period for work and break period. You seem to be in an overdrive possibly because you don't take breaks. Fit that in and see the difference.

Finally, you need a supplement to help with the forgetfulness. Aswaghandha should be your go-to supplement. You can read up its functions and run it by your doctor.
