Does the GK series mix grid and solar power together? the MK series does this flawlessly.
Simply put, if grid line (PHCN) is present and the solar panels are active during the day, the MK series inverter will draw power from both sources thereby reducing your PHCN bills
For most other inverters, and CC, they cut-off the PV to 0W production when the batteries are fully charged and grid line is present.
Imagine your batteries fully charged at 11am in the morning with grid line present and the sun is still hitting hard , all that goes to waste.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
Put a DC Clamp meter around the +ve or -ve battery cable with the AC loads disconnected - adjust or compensate appropriately if your meter is sensitive to the direction of current flow.

The GK series inverter is transformerless so barring any superior engineering should likely have less idle consumption than a transformer based inverter.

Trippledots:
So curiosity get the better of me eventually and i have my answers now.. grin

Armed with niyiomolunade s reply i
1. Took a laptoolp power supply rated at 24v/2.5A
2. Using a clamp i momentarily shorted the output to see how the adapter itself behaves in a dead short. I noticed it simply cuts supply once amps reaches about 2A for about 1sec then resumes again. Repeating the same process if the same condition persists.

3. Armed with this new information, i connected the laptop charger to the PV input of my expensive smiley fangpusun 100v/30amps mppt controller.

Result

Controller mppt control showed battery charging at 13.3v/ 5-6A.

Since the laptop power supply is rated at about 2A, it was apparent the mppt was doing a buck conversion and charging the battery.

So my curiosity satisfied at last!

I love Science! cheesy

Next is to use a higher regulated I/V to feed the mppt controller and see what happens as it tracks that mpp.

Cheers.
you can use battery in place of PV. This should max the cc and satisfy your curiosity

would suggest u try with another watt meter, or put a known load on the binatone avs n compare watt readings

any that has equalization setting, fangpusun victron clone doesnt hv, so be ware. however if you grid supply is fair, and ur inverter has equalization capability, then u can use it to equalize, equalization is done every 1month or 2months, and prevents sulphation n stratification of the electrolyte
the one I sell does, just ask me to activate it for you

Saipro:

Think
- fewer batteries (with all the benefits like fewer failure points, lesser maintenance hassles, cost benefits, etc)
- shallower cycling
- same derived utility

Let me paint the picture: overnight, consumption altogether culminates to about 2,000W max on any given night. On a typical night, my energy use averages 1,300W. This includes the inverter's tare load. Specifically, my inverter claims about 130W max from that figure.

My daytime inverter on the other hand has a tare consumption of a minimum 1,200W overnight! In essence, the inverter on its own is able to drain the batteries as might the entire house household. Oversimplifying the maths, the inverter literally doubles my night-time consumption.

Here's the interesting conclusion: since my house runs entirely from panels during the day, the batteries come into play at night. If I halve my cycling depth, I can theoretically double my cycle life. If my bank might have lasted me 4 years with my PowerStar inverter, it should take me 8 years with the Victron. Another way to look at it is, I could halve the size of my battery bank while retaining the same days of autonomy, should the sun misbehave (which is purely a myth at this point for my panels are sufficiently oversized to take me to absorb everyday even if they don't do float on sunless days). That way, I can go for an extra 2 nights should something catastrophically go wrong with my panels (insufficient insolation no longer being an issue).

And this is a mere 3kWp of PV. Fewer panels required to get the job done - an unintended benefit. The panels had been there before the new inverter and were about 50% oversized. Effectively, I'm now 100% oversized.

All these and lots more by merely having a night-time inverter. The cost savings are within the first year and the benefits until the said inverter croaks. Or a guru here decides to test it with his trusted hammer grin (that hammer has acquired Mjölnir-like attributes).

Of course, all the aforementioned presume optimisation of your system.
but must people are not aware of this energy conservation. My inverter is 14w and 3.5kw 48v at that. I can't use any inverter that the idle consumption is more than 20w henceforth. Any good system should survive with 120ah over night with basic load. Nice one with your logic
