You can't take the service/good produced or offered in US and place in the same basket with Chinese one. You have to take into account that the quality of the service or goods are different.

you are making an argument that is already factored into PPP calculation

why do you think Chinese goods are able to enter US market ?

Also the productivity of an economy is measured using inputs such as labour, capital or other resources ..... In other words a ratio of GDP to hours worked......
It's not the GDP divided by the population..... That would be GDP per capita

The reason I said GDP is the measure of all goods and services is because you seem to think having a larger retaile market is equivalent to have a larger GDP.... The fact is for most countries for example SA the retail market only contributes 12% to GDP.

Hence one country can have a larger retail market than another country yet still have a smaller GDP

PPP goes further to redefined those goods and services traded to remove currency manipulations so that two countries can be compared.

so everything that GDP measures can be constituted into the retail bracket including debt.

You First need to understand the meaning of GDP ppp. Before popping your nose to issue you don't understand. At this point I will have to give you an overview of it ,Purchasing power parity (PPP) is measured by finding the values (in USD) of a basket of consumer goods that are present in each country. It's so difficult to measure or rather compare two countries economy using ppp and therefore it only involves economy within the country, that's why you will find China having cheap life as compared to USA but when quality is factored in China will not have a say.

it all has to do with cost of living

the cost of living in China is low hence, people turn to have more disposable income

A doctor in the US earns more than his Chinese counterpart, whiles the American doctor who earns above 85K is paying 24% as tax, the Chinese is paying 6% or so.
The Chinese doctor gets health care as a part of his tax and the American does not.
Cost of living in the US is very high compared to China.

At the end of the month, the chinese doctor ends up with more money in hand than the American doctor.

Learn about inequality and you will understand.
