Shma: Do you have glaucoma or you just don't know how to read? Or is comprehension a problem?
Hobbit is now displaying a toffee brain, smh! When you grow an inch of your puny brain, drop the link I'm waiting for. I can't keep on reminding a son of homo forensic on how to engage in debate.
tantrums from a whinny lil brat...
Grow a pair of brain and you might understand the things you which to talk about. That way, you won't easily start whining
Shma: Don't be a tw@t. You can't have a brain and keep on saying nothing. Back your silly argument with a 2022 link or anything to suggest so and I will take your grandiloquence somehow seriously.
I want to see a link to what you just posted. I've been waiting since time immemorial.
ZOMBIE.
so now, your argument is, the index is one year old?
What a whiny brat
Tell me how many trees you planted in your city to change the situation? Just a walk through your city center will show less trees
Shma: You want my attention, my attention you will get.
I dropped a submission to you dwarf( with a source to back it up) and I expected you to debunk it with a sober answer. But you decided to whitewash it & dignify it with the game of name-calling.
Dimwit! vamoose from that hole of psychopathics and learn how to debate sanely.
I gave you a sustainability index 2022 - with an explanation and countries among it. Was I mad to post it if I don't know what sustainable means? Why are you displaying buffoonerism, son of Homo hobbitus?
Rant of a child
Always in the gutter.
The fact is, Nairobi is not in the top 10 most green cities on the continent. Deal with that and stop ranting. Country sustainability has almost nothing to do with the cities greenery.
The fact is below, Nairobi ranks below average on the green cities index.
Shma: You know I'm talking about MAN-MADE FOREST! - you silly dwarf. Why are you straying from the point? Also, remind me of your profession again? Cos if you truly studied engineering, you won't refer me to UN for sustainable def. We're talking about discipline for nature, and Sustainable& green practices are crucial in this aspect.
No one is disputing that SUSTAINABLE is RELATIVE. Also - Sustainable does not only cut across Trees. Still waiting for your link.
There you go with your childish tantrums
You don't need my definition for sustainable... I'm directing you to a place where you won't dispute. Dumb kid .
You don't need my link, just go to what the UN describe as sustainable. You have access to the internet and so does everyone here.
Shma: The problem with you is you argue everything. Even 1 + 1 Is two; you'll still argue it. But I want to see the link to your source & methodology.
For the meantime:
Sustainable Cities Index published on 14 June 2022, The Dutch company Arcadis has been seduced by six African cities such as Cairo in Egypt (86th), Cape Town in South Africa (89th), Nairobi in Kenya (96th), Johannesburg in South Africa (97th), Lagos in Nigeria (99th) and Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (100th).
This is 2022, Accra is nowhere in the picture. Sustainable means green, if you don't know.
Africa at the heart of sustainable development In 2022, the top 100 sustainable cities of Arcadis are Oslo (Norway), Stockholm (Sweden), Tokyo (Japan), Copenhagen (Denmark) and Berlin (Germany), which took the first five places. While several major cities in Europe or America do not appear in this world ranking, Africa, through Cairo, Cape Town, Nairobi, Johannesburg, Lagos and Kinshasa, is among the best in terms of environmental practices and ecological transition.
The above index ranks discipline in environmental practice. The previous index where Nairobi, capetpwn and Morocco came on top specifically focused on Eco- consciousness or rather the love of Nature( animals, plants, sea, lakes, oceans).
Green can be factored by many aspects-- Some cities like accra are blessed to have trees sprawling everycorner of the city( no human effort in making and sustaining them)... That does not mean anything, man made trees; like those in Joburg, Nairobi and cape town are what matter most. We plant and take care of Trees, that's why we're called the green city under the sun.
Bunch of whinnying and nonsense
Please has anyone seen a man made tree before? In any case, are you talking about those plastic things designed like a tree?
You should go and look at what the UN describe as sustainable so that you don't misrepresent the word sustainable to mean trees and green.
Shma: That's not how this aspect works. Here, we focus more on the eco-conscious or rather eco-friendly nature. How disciplined are you towards Nature( trees, flowers, animals, etc)
Nairobi for instance is green by virtue of discipline. We respect nature and that is why we're the number one eco-friendly country in Africa(14th in the world), followed by cape town then Marrakesh Morocco.
Source ~ world's sustainable environment Index.
Since Accra has more nature (trees, flowers and general landscaping) than Nairobi as documented by satellite data, I'll say Accra people are more discipline towards nature than those in Nairobi.
Do you want to dispute those facts?
Explain how you're green when you have less greenery compare to other cities.
You don't even come in the first 8 greenest cities on the continent...
Just for the benefit of doubt, I've attached the chart
Shma: We're talking about Nairobi - Kenya is more of a desert country. Nairobi is considered the green city under the sun owing to her love of nature. We plant and take care of trees even in the concrete jungle within the CBD. We plant greens even on the pillars of Viaducts.
According to research using satellite data, there's less greenery in Nairobi compared to other cities.
rvp2018: What useless point? Ghana when it had electricity problems - did not invest money - it simply changed the regulations - and invited IPPS. IPPS came - put down the investment - and generated power. Kenya did the same. Nigeria can do the same. Only mistake Ghana did was to go overboard - in signing IPPS - which have take or pay clauses.
And situation now - half the capacity is going to waste - Ghana is paying IPPS not to run the turbines.
Ghana currently has over 5,300 MW of installed generation capacity, though actual availability rarely exceeds 2,400 MW due to changing hydrological conditions, inadequate fuel supplies and dilapidated infrastructure. https://www.usaid.gov/powerafrica/ghana
how Is half the capacity going to waste when demand is already at 4,000MW?
Do you think IPPs give you free generation capacity? You pay for it. We cannot leave our energy sector to private foreigners domination, It will be a security threat to our nations so we end up owning it all for our capable VRA.
Only private players currently are Ghanaian own firms....
Anyway I'm curious to know why a big country like Kenya with almost 60 million people only have 2,400km of transmission lines.
rvp2018: I know you're mad man but for sake of others - let me engage you.
The last large public investment Ghana did was 1960s buiding of volta dam.
Otherwise most of the investment came from IPPS - as of 2016 - private sector were doing 2000MW compared to 2500MW that gov of Ghana has invested (with 1,000MW being the Volta dam built by Nkurumah ages ago).
The participation of independent power producers (IPPs) in Ghana has continued to grow since the thermal Takoradi Power Station was first built in Aboadze in 2004. Indeed, IPPs are quickly catching up to public generation in terms of capacity. As of October 2017, the power capacity that is provided by IPPs and non-state-run power plants in Ghana stands at 1925 MW, compared to 2456 MW of installed capacity at the state-backed primary electricity generation utility Volta River Authority (VRA). In total, there are nine IPPs providing electricity, including the 400-MW Bui Dam, seven thermal plants with installed capacity of 1505 MW, and the 20-MW solar plant completed by BXC Ghana, a subsidiary of China-based industrial conglomerate Beijing Fuxing Xiao-Cheng Electronic. The interest in IPPs is likely to continue into 2018 and beyond as additional projects come on-line and policies encourage the engagement of private energy players.
According to a 2016 World Bank report, there are 126 IPPs present in 18 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, providing more than 13% of total installed generation capacity. Ghana has the fourth-highest capacity generated by IPPs and ranks third in terms of investment, after South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria, with both metrics growing
rvp2018: You're wasting money. Obasanjo spend 16B dollars; Total wasted money; Nigeria remain in darkness. Kenya and Ghana spend almost zero; most investment coming in as IPPS. Kenya and Ghana have stable electricity. The reason is once you fix regulatory and systemic issues - electricity will attract private investment - because this like Telcom. There is ready market for electricity in Nigeria. Private sector will invest and get money. Nigeria gov should invest IN EDUCATION. It's just too chaotic for anyone to come in - with illegal meters and broken transmission.
There's nothing like zero cost when it comes to resolving electricity issue. It cost Ghana 13 to 16 billion dollars to resolved it recent electricity issues.
As I speak, some of the works are still going on. Like the restraining of over 10,000km of high voltage GRIDCO transmission lines in order to completely move the transmission lines from the 1950s technology.
As well as making the country less vulnerable by creating 3 more energy hubs instead of relying on the current ones in Tema and Takoradi. Power plants are being moved to Central Ghana specifically Kumasi to stabilize the entire central Ghana. And others will be moved to Northern Ghana.
All of this is money intensive and Nigeria will need at least 40 billion dollars.
popizaino: The word "development " has really suffered and has lost it's meaning among Ghanaians especially the ones of this thread. Calling Lotto kiosks ,umbrellas shade, houses without toilets etc development has to be the peak of madness. Except, you're visually impaired with a missing brain there is no way a glance through both Nairobi and Accra will make you think Accra is ahead.
Yet everyone put Ghana above Kenya in development.
Have they also lost their meaning of development or it is just the fact that you don't know what development is?
In New York, there are kiosk for hot dogs, kiosk for lotto, umbrellas shade and etc so what's your argument. Dont you know what umbrellas are meant for?
There are consistent reasons why Accra keep coming up more developed than Nairobi, you're yet to know that.
gallivant: Seek urgent medical treatment. You are out of touch with reality.
You and your fellow Kenyans need medical care more...
You guys don't even know reality.....
I've been to most part of my country so when I speak, I speak with authority.
I have carried out various surveys and been know the results of many. So I know the reach of development in my country and the living conditions of people
